In tribute of the late senator dianne feinstein. They are lining up. They are expected to start shortly. A huge tribute, a huge outpouring, a very emotional outpouring of people who are here just wanting to get one last opportunity to thank her for her service, thank her. Many people said for all that she has done for San Francisco, for the state of california, and also for the nation and you can see right now that they are making their way down the stairs to her casket. They will be singing for a short time and then she will be escorted out of city hall onto van ness and led away. As city hall prepares for her Funeral Services tomorrow. So here live, were about to have a tremendous tribute by the San Francisco gay mens choir. We will have much more of that coming up later tonight at 730 and again at 10 00. And jen, i know those doors to city hall were supposed to close at 7 00 to the public. Do you know if there is still a long line . Would they keep the doors open another 30 minutes, another hour, possibly. We you know, you would think that they would want to try and accommodate people who came from around the bay area, really not just here in San Francisco, but they are all also on a very tight timeline. They have a lot of preparation. Some dignitaries who are coming tomorrow. And we understand and as you may have heard, that they are not going to have that open again to the public because of security reasons. So a lot of preparations that are going to be going on here at city hall tonight. Mike, jana, thank you. Well, San Francisco city hall is where feinstein his career began first as a supervisor, pfizer and then the citys first female mayor before entering her groundbreaking career in the senate. Ktvu is christian captain, has more on how feinstein is being remembered. The late senator Dianne Feinsteins casket arrived at San Franciscos city hall shortly after 8 a. M. An honor guard accompanying the late senators remains. The senators family arriving shortly thereafter, asking that the cameras be turned off for a few moments as they mourned among those saying their farewells, the former speaker of the house, nancy pelosi, who remembered a resolute senator feinstein, who still managed to show her gentle nature. I was thinking of the words during the night about how gentle she was, but how strategic she was. And so she she she knew her purpose and she would not be. She did things on her own terms, but she always did them with gentleness. The late senator served as the citys first woman mayor from 1978 to 1988, a seat now occupied by london breed, who reflected on the senators lasting impression on the office and the city of San Francisco. We have of, you know, had guests and people who have come up. Her statue is upstairs. Bears, flowers have been pouring in. I mean, you still feel her presence because of how actively engaged she was a procession of city workers in uniform, staff and friends of senator feinstein made their way past her casket and into the south light court where they signed condolence books working for her was just the privilege of a lifetime, she governed and thought about Public Service in a way that i dont think you see any more in politicians as those whom she mentored said, she always expected the best out of her staff and always made time for them. You know, i work for almost 20 years ago and shes been a mentor. Weve kept in touch over that entire time, checking in on my wife and my kids, sending thoughtful notes. Im always there for mentorship and advice. The general public began lining up before the doors opened at 9 a. M, saying even if they didnt personally know the late senator, she certainly had an impact on their lives. I just felt like it was my duty as a citizen to come and pay my respects because she done was so wonderful and shes truly going to be missed. You know, shes really going to be missed. I just, you know, i just really loved her and inspired her a lot. In San Francisco, christian kafton ktvu fox two news and the senator will be laid to rest tomorrow morning. Ktvu is Cristina Rendon spoke to some Health Care Workers who walked the picket line today. The picket line caught the publics attention. Workers striking outside kaiser and walnut creek showed up in force with drums, signs and their voices. The biggest thing is, is making sure that our patients are well taken care of and getting the care they deserve. From san jose in santa clara to fremont and south San Francisco, ktvu saw hundreds of employees at each location wednesday morning, marking day one of a three day strike over what they say is unfair labor practices and unsafe staffing levels. Were constantly short staffed and were constantly having to close rooms, so theres times where theres not enough staff to fill in all the operating rooms. So then we delay it. So its delayed patient care. The staffing crisis is very serious and i have to listen to them tell me they think theyre going to lose a foot. They think they have diabetes or they think theyre going to die before a patient, before theyre able to see a doctor. Its really sad. And they say the staffing crisis worsened after the pandemic. Many people left the medical field. All of us frontline workers kept coming to our executives and letting them know we need these positions backfilled. We need them filled again. But they were not listening to us. A spokesperson for Kaiser Permanente says management and Coalition Union representatives are still at the bargaining table with progress made and some agreements reached on several specific proposals late tuesday. Kaiser says, quote, we remain committed to reaching a new agreement that continues to provide our employees with market leading wages excellent benefits, generous Retirement Income plans and valuable professional development opportunities. Thats the problem is that they waited almost to the final hour to start bargaining in good faith. This is the largest Health Care Workers strike in us history, with 75,000 kaiser employees picketing outside hospitals and facilities across the us, including colorado, washington, oregon, maryland, virginia and washington, dc. Kaiser is based in oakland with mayor shengtao telling ktvu shes hopeful an agreement will be reached. I totally respect the workers rights to make sure that they have a voice and to bargain in good faith and i continue to encourage that both sides come together and have those conversations and then find a resolution. Im very hopeful because i want my patients taken care of. Late today, kaiser updated us on their offers to date to address the unions priorities, including across the board wage increases in all markets over the next four years. Theyre also offering minimum wages of 23 an hour in california and 21 an hour in markets outside of california. And they say they will continue to enhance the existing Health Benefits and Retirement Income plans if the strike goes all three days. It would end saturday at 6 a. M. Now, some non urgent appointments and procedures may have to be rescheduled, but were told hospitals and Emergency Rooms will remain open in walnut creek. Christina rendon, ktvu, fox two news.
