Yes. For a lot of people who did not they took that extensions that was given. So Steve Paulson pretty mild weather i heard theres some drizzle i did not have any. Well i did yesterday morning. But after today, well start a warm up here. But there are still some pockets of fog out there with one more system that has to go through the old pipeline here, mainly 50s. Santa rosa reports some fog. Theres plenty out there, especially north and also even down towards the monterey peninsula. That system, again, a lot of its lifting northward, but some a lot of high mid level clouds will drag across us. So 6070s to near 80. After today, though, temperatures begin to bump up. All right. 4 00 in the morning. My goodness. What are we doing here at this time of the morning . But here he is, mister sal castaneda, you know what, steve, right now were just kind of talking about at least i am talking about nothing. Theres not a lot going on right now. Traffic on the eastshore freeway looks pretty good. Carquinas praised to the macarthur maze. Easy bay bridge toll plaza. No problems on the oakland freeways or on the other bridges around the bay. The san mateo bridge. Looks like the camera may be out there. South bay commute. We do see a pretty good commute here. All over the Silicon Valley now. Now at 401. Lets get back to the headlines. Thank you, sal. Three people are dead after a violent weekend in oakland. Police say there were at least eight shootings over the weekend , three on friday, four on saturday. And one on sunday. Also in oakland, illegal sideshows took place over the weekend in two intersections. The first was Early Saturday Morning at macarthur and market streets. Thats where a big crowd gathered to watch cars spinning wildly in the streets at about 245 in the morning. The second sideshow was a half hour later at maritime and grand avenue. That went on for about 20 minutes. In both cases, the Police Reportedly were close by, but they did not stop the sideshows in happening today in oakland. Community meeting about crime and violence hosted by state Senate Candidate and Oakland City Council member dan kalb, a councilman kalb says in the past year, crime in oakland has gone up more than 25. It was a busy weekend for organizers of an effort to recall Alameda County da pamela price as signatures for a recall petition were collected. Ktvu zac sos spoke with some of the people who signed the petition to remove price from office. Come on, puerto rico right here. Just ten months into her term as Alameda County da pamela price facing a ramping up recall effort. I lived in oakland for 30 years and its never been as bad as it is now. Robert madeira , part of a steady stream of county residents signing a petition to unseat price on sunday in west oakland. I want change. We had a lot of crime going on. Frankly, im just afraid to come over in oakland. Im afraid to come here. Yeah. And im a marine. Among those who are pointing their fingers at price for her handling of criminal cases. Ive been seeing and experiencing the crime wave in oakland, and i do believe that its directly related to the da and her policies on restorative justice. The da, who was elected with 53 of the vote last year after campaign on a platform of criminal Justice Reform continuing to defend her record this week, people of Alameda County elected me to do this work. And were doing it. Comments made as she joined county lawmakers in discussing their plans for state grant money allocated to tackle organized retail theft. Last month, oakland chinatown leader carl chan helping spearhead a strike by city Business Owners frustrated about crime. Among a long list of grievances, chan says motivate him to help organize the recall. For many of our seniors, you know, are afraid to walk down the street and again carjack ing businesses are closing, all due to crime. Also leading the effort, the family of jarren purvis, a man killed in the Castro Valley in 2020. The person charged with his death now out of jail until pamela price came into office, he was up on murder charges. Now hes been released on Involuntary Manslaughter after serving two and a half years at santa rita. And we did reach out to prices communications team, who redirected us to her campaign staff. So far, we have yet to hear back. As for the recall effort, unclear how many signatures they have so far, but the number needed is 73,000 by march 5th. In the newsroom, zac sos ktvu fox two news. Thank you, zach. Theres word this morning that President Biden is considering traveling to israel in the coming days as the us tries to prevent the conflict between israel and hamas from becoming a wider middle east war. Israeli airstrikes continue leveling neighborhoods in the gaza strip in retaliation against the deadly surprise attacks from hamas terrorists. Israeli troops now stand ready at the border with gaza for an expected ground invasion. More than 1 Million People are now sheltering in United Nations facilities as the area is running out of food and water. Not one drop of water there, not one grain of wheat, not a liter of fuel. That has been allowed in the gaza strip. Today. The Israel Military said 199 people are being held hostage in gaza, which is a higher number than previously reported. Our time now 406, secretary of state Antony Blinken is back in israel after several days of shuttle diplomacy between arab states. In cairo, egypt, secretary blinken emphasized the need to protect innocent civilians. Israel has the right indeed it has the obligation to defend itself against these attacks from hamas and to try to do what it can to make sure that this never happens again. As i said in tel aviv, as President Biden has said, the way that israel does this matters. It needs to do it in a way that affirms the shared values that we have for human life and human dignity, taking every possible precaution to avoid harming civilians. Also secretary blinken said the United States is meeting with other countries in the region to help make sure palestinians get the humanitarian help they need. More rallies are expected across the bay area in support for israel. A group of people gathered at San Franciscos Civic Center Plaza to condemn the hamas attacks as demonstrators wrapped themselves in the israeli flag. One protester is a student who was flying back to tel aviv to finish her last year at college when her plane was diverted due to the fighting. Were here for peace. Were here for gazan civilians. Were here for israeli civilians, for our soldiers, and for the future of the jewish people, because israel is necessary for the survival of the jewish people. Other demonstrators say family and friends back in israel have told them terrifying stories about the killings and the devastation theyve witnessed. Israels gone more and more right wing, and its politics and its gone more and more right wing. And its politics because of events like this, because there isnt that belief that theres a partner on the other side for peace. Those at the rally say they are hoping for peace, for all. Well, today is the tax deadline for people in california who did not file their returns back in april. The irs postponed the deadline for six months for people impacted by the winter storms. The irs says now is the time to file will pay if you can or arrange for payments if you cant afford that entire amount of your tax bill. Its just like it would be if youre in midapril, if you have a requirement to file a tax return and you have a balance due, you do want to file that return and pay something. If you cant full pay, lets work something out. Installment agreement. Short term, long term, that kind of a thing. But the bottom line is the penalties, if you will, and the interest that can accrue are much greater for a return thats not filed with a requirement to file and not full paid as opposed to filing the return and paying something. Now, the irs is reminding california taxpayers they dont need to prove they were directly impacted by the severe Winter Weather to qualify for that extension. And pam, a tax filing extension is being offered by the irs to anyone affected by the war in israel and gaza. The irs says if because of the war you cant meet the deadline for paying your taxes or filing that deadline, you can ask for an extension. Taxpayers who have a home or business in israel, gaza or the west bank now have until october of next year to file 2022 taxes. Okay for ten is the time. Lets check in with Steve Paulson. What are you keeping an eye on . One more system before we get a warm up, you guys. And it will be after today. But if youre well north and yes, some higher clouds coming in. We have some fog in advance of it, but per usual here, the last couple of systems since the last friday, they are all lifting north. So again, the lines about santa rosa, calif, yoga north, but well get sun in the morning, then increasing clouds, but some fog, thick fog there. Santa rosa, petaluma reporting some not as widespread as yesterday, at least not so far down to watsonville, salinas, some thick fog as well. So there are a few areas, although yesterday morning was worse, low 60s from point arena to point raised the San Francisco buoy to the monterey buoys. And whats working . Half of them dont even work anymore. 40s for a few 50s for most. I mean its just temperature i think were going to going to stay right around this level low 50s petaluma is in there kelseyville napa airport mill valley menlo park 52. Walnut creek 52. So its pretty close here. Oh know. There you go. I thought i was stuck a few more 40s to the north. But i think with the increasing clouds these will probably start to go up a little bit here. Middletown is 44, upper lakes, 48. Healdsburg is in there. Sebastopol Windsor Point raise and bolinas at 49. So novato, fairfax, san anselmo, ross all in there as well, but probably thats about as cool as were going to get. 36 truckee South Lake Tahoe 5063 down in las vegas and 67 Crescent City with a south wind thats pretty warm for them. I mean, you get that south wind, the cloud cover and some rain beginning to move in up there. But for us, its increasing clouds and after this system, that is it for the rest of the week, in fact, if anything will jump up on the temps for about three days and then start to cool down on the weekend. Today, though, more sun to the south, more clouds to the north is the way it looks. Some patches of thick fog and then increasing any rain or drizzle will be well north 6070s to near 80. But warmer temps are on the way. In fact, itll start a little bit tomorrow, wednesday, thursday, friday. Look warm to hot then cooler kicks back in on the weekend. All right. Thank you, steve. Rite aid has filed for bankruptcy. Coming up, what the pharmacy chain blames for the filing. Also, shes being remembered as a tv sitcom superstar who also became a successful businesswoman. Remembering the life of actress Suzanne Somers, a bay area native who died over the weekend yeah. The star of Threes Company grew up in san bruno, went to high school at in burlingame. Im at Cappuccino High School and mercy high. Reporter tracy wright reports. Today would have been her 77th birthday. She was such a light love maker of joy. Actress entrepreneur. Author. Wife and mom. Whichever hat. Suzanne somers was wearing, she drew people in. She was funny. And she was also a shrewd businesswoman, which i liked also. So i think its sad. She was a funny lady. Reps say somers passed away after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by family who had gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on monday. Instead, theyll celebrate her life. Come and knock on our door or knock on our door. Somers was best known for her roles in sitcoms like Threes Company. I watched that faithfully when i was a teenager, so that was one of my favorite shows, actually. I used to watch it regularly before streaming and before netflix and whatever. Its a little traumatic and sad to hear after asking for a raise in the 1980s, somers was written out of the hit show but didnt let it slow her down. It was very obvious that she had been kind of punished for something and ended up having to, you know, try to find the second career. She really is a chameleon who personifies a lot of the ways that women were marginalized and kind of underestimated in the 1970s into the 90s. The wraps Kristen Lopez says somers was a trailblazer. I think she will be remembered as as a woman who fought for what she felt she was owed and deserved. And who was one of many women that was kind of persecuted by hollywood for it, but who was able to rise above. I mean, she was a cancer survivor, a real jack of all trades. Fans left flowers on her star on the hollywood walk of fame, and many stopped to pay their respects. I really admire how much she got into the fitness and how many people she helped with health and fitness. I think shes going to be sadly missed. I mean, she is an icon and she always will be. Her effervescence and her comedic timing, she was a good actress and i hope we give her her due. That was tracy wright reporting. Suzanne somers family now planning a private funeral and is considered holding a Public Memorial Service sometime next month. Now Suzanne Somers was among many women battling Breast Cancer. The American Cancer Society says about 240,000 women in the us are diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The rate of Breast Cancer deaths has been slowly going down over the past 30 years. But medical experts say that number still doesnt offer much comfort to the many survivors who fear Breast Cancer will come back. Approximately 50 of Breast Cancer survivors have moderate to severe levels of fear of recurrence that can really disrupt their social cognitive, emotional and physical function ing now, Health Experts say Breast Cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the us. Thats right behind skin cancer. 49ers star Christian Mccaffrey and deebo samuel will undergo mris today after getting knocked out of the game against the Cleveland Browns. And that was the niners first loss of the season. The game started well as mccaffrey turned a pass into a touchdown. Thats the 15th straight game he found the end zone but clevelands bad weather and ferocious defense s gave the niners trouble all day and brock purdy threw his first interception of the season. Definitely some throws and opportunities that i feel like that were there for me and i missed on them and that you know made us be behind the sticks and then you have to get a third down, which is tough on the road here, man. And thats something i got to learn from man. The niners committed 12 penalties for 115 yards, including two questionable penalties that led to the browns. Go ahead, drive. And the niners still had a chance to win. But rookie kicker jake moody missed that 41 yard field goal at the end of the game and the niners lost 19 to 17. They earned it and we did this game. I said what it came down to. I would never put it on moody at the end there to say, you know its great that we had an opportunity to win that you know, in that fashion, but just didnt we didnt earn it has been over on the sidelines now worse than the loss some injuries samuel missed the second half because of a shoulder injury. Xrays were negative. Mccaffrey suffered an oblique and rib injury. He tried to play through it, but couldnt. Trent williams missed a few plays, but wore a walking boot after the game due to an ankle sprain and the niners have an extra day to recover as they face Minnesota Vikings. Thats one week from today on monday night football. Did you watch any. I heard it. I heard it from my living room. Yeah because yeah my hubby was not happy with the result. I bet he was. But you know, sal had said, you know, they have to lose at some point. But the injuries, thats thats tough to see. Yeah, a lot to talk about. Time is 420. Steve paulson is talking about your monday weather and how warm its going to start to get starting tomorrow. Yes. Today, though, we have a system coming in that will probably keep us a little on the cool side, 70s, 80s, and after that its going to be wild swings from this week into the next. Everything will focus on some hot temperatures for a couple of days. And dont be surprised if by this time next week im talking about rain coming in and it actually looks pretty good. But until we get there, we have to deal with some pretty warm temperatures. Wont be today. Some fog, thick fog, santa rosa, petaluma in there. There are some pockets of it. It was thicker sunday morning, no doubt about it. Water temps all in the 60s kind of Holding Steady there in the 60s. Temperatures, 40s and 50s. I dont think these will change all that much. Maybe a little cooler to the south with more clearing and cloud cover will be rolling in to the north. But 51 north dublin danville is in there. Claytons at 50 degrees. Lafayette orinda at 49. Panels at 50 and el sobrante hercules at 51. So a little cool for some 36 in the mountains. 67 Crescent City. Thats warmer than anybody on the coast, 17 degrees warmer than monterey south wind. And that cloud cover coming in with some rain, knocking on the door up on the north coast. And thats kind of the key here. Farther north you go, more cloud cover, farther south, probably a lot less. And after today, were all quiet and the Rain Department for about a week. And then after that, i think this panel is going to be lit up as we head to next tuesday and wednesday. So october has not locked in on one pattern. Weve had a lot of swings here in this after today, itll swing to a warm, maybe even hot category here, 6070s to near 80. Today starting tomorrow, warmer and then wednesday, thursday, we could set some record highs on thursday. Still warm on friday. And it comes right back down, though, on the weekend. All right. Save time is 422. A bilingual newspaper in San Franciscos Mission District has been going strong for more than 50 years. Some thick fog out there. You can see some right there. Right. Looks like its right on the deck on the golden gate bridge. Topping our news this morning, President Biden is urging israel to show some restraint in its response to the terror attack from hamas. The us has sent two Carrier Strike groups to the area and the president says the United States will provide israel with everything they need. But in an interview with 60 minutes, the president also said he does not support the idea of an Israeli Occupation of gaza. I think it would be a big mistake. Look what happened in gaza, in my view, is hamas and the extreme elements of hamas dont represent all the palestinian people. There are reports this morning that President Biden may consider traveling to israel in the coming days. Now, many people in the bay area are watching as the war unfolds and thousands of people gathered in san jose to support it. Palestinians ktvu Lamonica Peters was near santana row in san jose and tells us more about that rally. Thousands of people rallied at santana row in san jose sunday to show their support for palestinians after an attack by hamas in israel last saturday. This is the inevitable result of 75 years of oppression and the lack of lack of action from the International Community to hold the zionist entity accountable for its crimes and its genocide. We demand that the Israeli Apartheid stay immediately and all military operations and violence in gaza and allow humanitarian aid and the return of palestinians. The Gaza Health Ministry says 2450 palestine liens and more than 1400 israelis have been killed since the fighting began. The 2. 3 Million People living in gaza are struggling to evacuate. And access to food, water and safety decreases by the day. Electricity no water, no food for the hospitals, endless water. This is all provocation. After the rally, people marched down winchester boulevard waving flags and chanting palestine from palestine to mexico to palestine to mexico, these water flows have got to go. These water walls have got to go. There will be innocent people dying. And thats what thats the thing that sucks about war. Nobody wants that. But unfortunately, when people are obsessed with power, they are willing to sacrifice anyone, at least a couple hundred thousand people will die, mostly children, elderly and women. And this is something that we cannot accept as International Community. Hospitals in gaza are overwhelmed with patients and Officials Say emergency generator fuel will run out in the next few days. Our time is 439 Livermore PleasantonFire Fighters trying to figure out the cause of a fire that destroyed three abandoned buildings. It started at home street in concan and boulevard about 515 last night in livermore, a huge plume of black smoke. You could see it. You could see it around the tri valley area. Authorities say three abandoned buildings were a total loss. A fourth building called the charming fig catering had suffered some minor damage. All right. 439 is the time. Yesterday was pretty sunny and nice. Yeah but you said were going to have a little mild and then its going to get even warmer, i guess. Yes. On the philz coffee, though. Yes. Their medium roast. Whole beans, silk and splendor is money. Silk and splendor. I like filtered soul. There you go. Also. Very good one too. They have many. Ambrosia is good, too. All right. We will start in the east and the southeast. Why . Because this is an unseasonably deep system. Look at atlanta, 47 degrees. Kansas city. Dave, were going to kansas city. All right. And you can see 39 degrees at and right here, Oklahoma City. Why do you highlight that . Because thats where steve was born at least thats what my parents told me. Born in Oklahoma City at Tinker Air Force base, my dads favorite joke, you and the dog both cost 25 bucks. All right, look at that system. Now, whats whats why am i bringing this to you . Because next week, it may be our turn to get this type of system, one of its ilk, because it looks like an unseasonably deep system is on the way, but not until next week. For us, this is a weak system that we have. Its lifting north High Pressure is just too large and in charge here, and its itching and raring to go. After today, it will start to flex its muscle. Little cooler, though, today. Napa danville, san carlos, morgan hill, morgan hill by the way, the forecast high for sunday was 86. They came in at 86. Thats pretty good. Sometimes theyre spot on on that down to 81. San carlos, 78 to 75. Danville down three and napa from 82 to 78 degrees. Some fog though. Santa rosa, petaluma. Now there was a lot more fog yesterday morning. Tracys down to four miles. So not too bad there. 40s, 50s on a lot of these temps i probably going to get as cool as theyve gotten to the north. Maybe a little cooler to the south because theyll have clearing clear skies a lot longer. Pillar point those 48 woodsides 48 right at 50 menlo park stanford as well pacifica at 51 degrees. Our system there it is its on its way itll fall apart as it drifts across us. But it will give us a slight cooldown today. More clouds to the north, more sun to the south. You can watch how this system zips through pretty fast today. And then after that, after tuesday, wednesday, thursday, the High Pressure will give us thursday could be a record setting day. If you dont like heat, the good news is its going to break down a little bit on friday. And by the weekend, look at that. Its pouring in with a big cooldown. But we can see here is not much in the way of any rain unless youre santa rosa north. Maybe drizzle or something for this system today. And thats it after today, though, its all about sunshine and warmer temps, some thick fog. And then we will have increasing clouds to the north. Well, one mans love for writing launched a career in journalism and a newspaper that has been serving the bay areas Latino Community for more than 50 years. El tecolote is the longest running bilingual publication in the us. It features stories from the community in San Franciscos Mission District. As hispanic heritage month comes to an end, ktvu is Cristina Rendon takes a look at the history of the paper and how it continues to thrive. Of amid the hustle and bustle of historic 24th street in San Franciscos Mission District. Aksyon latina is a Cultural Arts and Media Organization nestled between stores and restaurants. The nonprofit publishes el tecolote news paper, meaning the owl. Every two weeks, 10,000 copies continue to get printed and distributed throughout San Francisco and the bay area. Aksyon latinas executive director Fatima Ramirez calls el tecolote their cornerstone project. Its the longest running bilingual publication in california, with stories printed in both english and spanish. I think my favorite is when i see folks holding the newspaper because theyre in it. You know, the proud feeling of knowing that their story is being told. Alexis de rosas has been editor in chief since 2014. Yes, we are based in the mission and we do cover the mission. But i also see us as this regional paper. We cover what i like to call el pueblo, the people. Hes proud to carry on the tradition of community journalism. Our community. Latino Community Gets kind of really over simplified. And i think my job here has really allowed me to explore the nuance. Rs of our community. Were not just, you know, one people with one cultural experience. Were not one people with just one migration, an experience. El tecolote has one full time writer, one full time photographer, and relies on volunteers to tell peoples stories. The paper was first founded by volunteers more than five decades ago. Led by a man named juan gonzalez. He was born and raised in stockton, then moved to San Francisco in the mid 60s to attend San Francisco state university. Counselors were telling me theres no future in journalism and money. You cant make a lot of money. Its going to be tenuous in terms of if you have a job. Gonzalez didnt listen. He was only 22 years old, a fresh journalism graduate when he was asked by sf state to stay and become a professor in the la raza studies program. I was teaching people how to write, and it was my maybe 15 students how to write and how to write about community. The neighborhood here, the mission. But there was no place to get the stories published. He asked students to help him start a newspaper serving the needs of the Latino Community. In the mission, we had a fundraiser for an amateur talent show raised 350, and that was enough to publish four issues of a four page, 5000 copy edition of a newspaper on august 24th, 1970. The First Edition was printed. I had said to myself and told the staff, look, im willing to commit five years of my life to do this. Okay . Are you with me . I said, okay, at least a year. Yeah, okay. We can do a year. I said, ill take that at the very beginning, we were like nomads. Going from working out of peoples kitchens or garages or, you know, Community Centers would give us some space. And being bilingual right off the bat was really important. This year, the paper marks 53 years in public action, the golden milestone. So it also shows how much it means to folks and it speaks to why were still needed in the community as well. The papers archives are now inspiration for an art gallery in exile, latinas headquarters, this one featuring comics of stories covered in the 90s el tecolote has expanded its reach as well, with a website and two recently launched podcasts getting harder and harder to live in the Mission District where were currently based. So we want to make sure that were reaching them where were where they are at. Gonzalez is still recruiting volunteers, raising money, and on occasion hell write a story. If youre passionate about something, youre going to make, youre going to make a commitment to do right by it. He credits the papers longevity to Community Support, donations and the staff. If that army of volunteers over the years, that 400 plus volunteers that contributed to the paper as translators or as writers, photographers, illustrators, designers, distributors of the paper, thats the army that really enriches and made it possible for the paper to exist so long. The hope is el tecolote will keep flying high for another 50 years, amplifying latinx voices. I really always look to this quote as a north star for our work. Yo soy el tecolote. Yo soy la gente yo soy ustedes in San Franciscos Mission District. Cristina rendon ktvu fox two news. Great story, christina. Time now. 451. Several internal candidates have been interviewed to replace manager gabe kaplan, who, as you remember, was fired at the end of this season. All right. 452 is the time back over to Steve Paulson. What should we know in terms of weather . Well, a little warm this week, but not today. So were cooling it down a little bit today. A lot of cloud cover will be to the north, not to the south. But yesterday we bumped up to some low mid 80s and theyll be back, if not tomorrow for sure as we head to wednesday. And thursday looks hot. But then maybe next week ill be talking about rain by this time, unless youre on the north coast. But napa, danville, san carlos, morgan hill, the arrows are all reporting down in 78 to 80, 75 and 81 on the forecast highs for today. Some thick fog out there. Petaluma and santa rosa, although we had a lot more yesterday. But there are some pockets of it. I didnt see any coming in, but it doesnt mean you may not 40s, 50s on the temps youre probably as cool as were going to get to the north because clouds are on the way. But maybe a little cooler to the south might get some on the peninsula there. Menlo parks at 51 degrees. San jose 55. Boulder creeks at 47, hollisters at 49. Low 50s Scotts Valley. Socal mainly mid 50s to low 50s around santa clara, san jose and cupertino. The highs itching and raring to go, but it has to wait for that front to go through and its going to drag across a lot of high midlevel clouds. More clouds to the north, more sun to the south. But once we get past today, that system lifts north. Any rain drizzle, i think, would be santa rosa, north. Thats the way it looks here. The high builds in wednesday and it really kicks in. Its going to have its power shake on thursday. We could have some record highs on thursday, but then after that, look at this. By friday night and saturday, much cooler. And then next week could be a deep system for us coming in to bring in rain. So this october has been wild swings and thats exactly what were expecting. This swing, we will favor it more towards the warmer side today will probably be the coolest day of the week. Fog. Sun clouds. 40s. 50s on the lows. Cloudy north, more sun to the south. So 60s 70s to near 80. Temperatures is not really changing all that much inland tomorrow they will then they really jump wednesday, thursday, probably most of friday before a significant cooldown on the weekend. Pam all right. Thank you, steve. It was a violent weekend in oakland. Well, you know, ill complain then, but then next week i think we get rain in here. So topsy turvy last couple of weeks here for october today is that tweener day. We have some fog. Santa rosa, not as widespread as yesterday. A lot of 50s. Palo altos right at 50. Some clouds will be on the move here but more to the north. I think if youre south, itll just be more high clouds to the north. Youll get cloudy to mostly cloudy. But this system is lifting north and High Pressure is raring to go. Itll start tomorrow, 6070s to near 80 degrees. All right. South here at 501. If you want to see green, lets go to the south bay. Thats right. If san jose, my san jose peeps, they might not be up yet. Just ten months into her term as Alameda County da pamela price facing a ramping up recall effort. I lived in oakland for 30 years and its never been as bad as it is now. Robert madeira, part of a steady stream of county residents signing a petition to unseat price on sunday in west oakland. I want change. We had a lot of crime going on, frankly, im just afraid to come over in oakland. Im afraid to come here. Yeah. And im a marine. Among those who are pointing their fingers at price for her handling of criminal cases, ive been seeing and experiencing the crime wave in oakland. And i do believe that its directly related to the da and her policies on restorative justice. The da, who was elected with 53 of the vote last year after Campaign Running on a platform of criminal Justice Reform, continuing to defend her record this week, people of Alameda County elected me to do this work, and were doing it. There is word this morning that President Biden is considering traveling to israel in the coming days as the us tries to prevent the conflict between israel and hamas from becoming a wider middle east war. Now israeli airstrikes continue leveling neighborhoods in the gaza strip in retaliation against the deadly surprise attacks from hamas terrorists. Israeli troops now stand ready at the border with gaza for an expected ground invasion. More than a Million People are now sheltering in the United Nations facilities as the area is running out of food and water. Not one drop of water, not one grain of wheat and not a liter of fuel that has been allowed in the gaza strip. Today, the Israel Military said 199 people are being held hostage in gaza. That is a higher number than previously reported. And pam, secretary of state Antony Blinken is back in israel after several days of shuttle diplomacy between arab states. In cairo, egypt, secretary blinken emphasized the need to protect innocent civilians, as israel has the right. Indeed it has the obligation to defend itself against these attacks from hamas and to try to do what it can to make sure that this never happens again. As i said in tel aviv, as President Biden has said, the way that israel does this matters or needs to do it in a way that affirms the shared values that we have for human life. And human dignity. Taking every possible precaution to avoid harming civilians. Also, secretary blinken said the United States is meeting with other countries in that region to help make sure the palestinians get the humanitarian help. They need more rallies are expected across the bay area in support for israel. A group of people gathered at San Franciscos Civic Center Plaza to condemn the hamas attack. Demonstrators wrapped themselves in the israeli flag. One protester is a student who was flying back to tel aviv to finish her last year at college when her plane was diverted due to the fighting. Were here for peace. Were here for gazan civilians. Were here for israeli civilians, for our soldiers and for the future of the jewish people, because israel is necessary for the survival of the jewish people. Other demonstrators say family and friends back in israel have told them terrifying stories about the killings and devastation theyve witnessed. Israels gone more and more right wing, and its politics and its gone more and more right wing. And its politics because of events like this, because there isnt that belief that theres a partner on the other side for peace. Those at the rally say they are hoping for peace for all. Well todays tax deadline for people in california who did not file their returns back in april, the irs postponed the deadline for six months for people impacted by the winter storms. The irs says now is the time to file pay or at least arrange payments if you cant afford the entire amount of your 2022 tax bill. Its just like it would be if youre in midapril, if you have a requirement to file a tax return and you have a balance due, you do want to file that return and pay something. If you cant full pay, lets work something out. Installment agreements, short term, long term, that kind of a thing. But the bottom line is the penalties, if you will, and the interest that can accrue are much greater for a return thats not filed with a requirement to file and not full paid as opposed to filing the return and paying something. The irs is reminding california taxpayers, you dont need to prove you were directly impacted by the severe Winter Weather extension. Ian and pam, heres something else. A tax filing extensions being offered by the irs to anybody affected by the war in israel and gaza. The irs says if because of the war you cant meet the deadline for paying your taxes or for filing your taxes, you can ask for an extension. Taxpayers who have a home or business in israel, gaza or the west bank, you now have until october of next year to file the 2022 taxes. 510 is the time. Steve paulsen here with our forecast last possibly rain next week after next week. Warm weather next week. Yeah, were going to get hot, though, this week here for a couple of days. The system thats in the east and also the southeast could be flip flopping in about a weeks time. But visit us, but not not today, not this week. Thats a ridge of High Pressure. And then thats a deep system for this time of year. No doubt about it. I mean, youre looking at temperatures kansas citys 39. I mean, low 40s, mid 40s, atlantas 46. Thats a cold, deep system for the middle of october. And you can see the if you watch any of the football games, college or pro, you probably notice theres a lot going on a brisk pattern for us this week. System is the last in the current pattern and per the last couple of days its lifting north and weakening. So if youre north, more clouds, if youre south, more sun. I think if theres any drizzle or rain, again, its about santa rosa north looks to be the line maybe even farther north than that. But for napa, danville, san carlos and morgan hill, the arrows are all down after a warm sunday, we talked about that and sure enough, came in right as advertised, especially for morgan hill, 86 degrees. Livermore was also 86, danville was 83. But today its 70s and 80s. San jose hit 84 yesterday. Well go 78 today for a high in san jose fog for some novato is now in on the mix. Petaluma santa rosa so 101 corridor. Watch out there maybe a little bit other locations but so far it was a lot worse on sunday. Thats for sure. 40s and 50s on the temps. Maybe a little cooler to the south. I think some cloud cover will kind of hold things to the north. Boulder creek 47 hollisters 49. A lot of low 50s, mid 50s here, Scotts Valley and socal both at 50. That system lifts north and then the high builds in. Boy, does it ever for a quick pop on these temps. But again, you can see how this is lifting north and well just get some high and mid level clouds more to the north, far less to the south today after this system falls apart. The high builds in tuesday will be the inbetween day and wednesday and thursday look hot. I mean, its going to be a quick pop on those temps. And then just like that, friday night, saturday, we cool it down in big time, cool down with rain. Looks like next week. Timing a little tough. Some bring in tuesday and wednesday. Its not a little bit looks like a lot. Well see if they hold on to that. But todays any activity against santa rosa north increasing clouds in the north. More sun to the south. Watch out for some thick fog. Not as widespread as yesterday, but there are still some pockets of it. 6070s to 80s. And again, its going to warm up fast here tuesday, wednesday, thursday looks like the hottest day. Still warm to hot friday. Big cooldown on the weekend. Thank you, steve. And it was the niners first loss of the season. The game started pretty well as mccaffrey caught a pass, ran it in for a touchdown. Thats the 15th straight game that he found the end zone but clevelands bad weather and ferocious defense gave the niners trouble all day brock purdy threw his first interception. Mayfield definitely some throws and opportunities. I feel like they were there for me and i missed on them and that, you know, made us be behind the sticks. And then you have to get a third down, which is tough on the road here, man. And thats something i got to learn from man. Deebo samuel the niners committed 12 penalties for 115 yards, including two questionable penalties that led to the browns. Go ahead, drive. The niners still had a chance to win, but at rookie kicker jake moody missed that 41 yard field goal at the end of the game and the niners lost nine 7 to 17. They earned it and we did this game. I said what it came down to. I would never put it on moody at the end there to say, you know its great that we had an opportunity to win that you know, in that fashion, but just didnt we didnt earn it has been over on the sidelines worse than the loss the injuries samuel missed the second half because he hurt a shoulder. Xrays were negative. Mccaffrey suffered an oblique and rib injury. He tried to play through it, but couldnt. Trent williams missed a few plays and wore a walking boot after the game due to an ankle sprain. The niners do have one extra day to recover. They face the Minnesota Vikings one week from today. On monday night football. All right. Our time is 519 mean theres lots to talk about in our weather. Things are going to be changing this week. They are indeed. Theyre changing to the warmer side. But not not today. Today is kind of the inbetween day as a weak system continues to drive north. And thats the key. Its mainly going to be north, but a lot of high and midlevel clouds will drag across farther north, more clouds farther south, probably more sun as the way it looks a little cool down compared to yesterday. It was a warmer sunday as advertised and livermore, san jose, san rafael, concord, santa rosa. Santa cruz. Thats santa cruz. Ive only been here since 1974. You think id know how to spell it . Vallejo and hayward all came in between 80 and 86. Now danville, san carlos and morgan hill all cooling down. 78 to 80, 75 and 81 on the forecast highs. San jose yesterday was 84. Today were going 78 for the high. And i think theyll jump up to about 90 by the time we get to thursday. But some thick fog novato Petaluma Santa Rosa that seems to be where the bulk of it is so far. Although tracy is now down to two miles. Visibility and its thick as thieves down towards watsonville. Salinas where a dense fog advisory is out. 40s 50s on the temps here. Fremont, 52. Berkeleys 52 degrees 48 Point Reyes Station in santa rosa. Half moon bay down to 46. Much more 40s to the north. But i think with the increasing clouds, this will probably be about as cool as they get. But even molinas in there. Fairfax san anselmo, ross, sonoma and napa now in there. Windsor, rohnert park, sebastopol, upper 40s, now there will be too many high clouds coming into Mendocino County from that system. But once that falls apart, washes out, well get a lot of cloud cover, but probably not much else unless youre north and then youll probably get in on maybe farther north, maybe a little light rain or drizzle farther south. Nothing fog, sun clouds in the morning lows 40s and 50s cloudy north. More sun to the south. Tomorrow, though, looks like we start to turn it up a little bit and then well really crank it up. It looks like here. Quick pop for your october temps. Some inland temps will hit the 90s into thursday. Still warm on friday. Big drop on the weekend dave. All right. Thank you. Time is 537, right back to Steve Paulson talking about how our weather is going to be today and the rest of the week and the rest of. Yes, sir. All right. Well get to it here. Yesterdays highs, a lot of 80s. Theyre still working on fixing the San Francisco temperatures. The good folks down there at the National Weather service. Hopefully this week itll get fixed. I did see 75 along the embarcadero, but these are all 80s. Livermore san jose, san rafael, concord, santa rosa, santa cruz, vallejo and hayward, all between 80 and 86. A warm degrees. So if you thought yesterday was warm, you were right. Napa 82. Danville 83. San carlos 78. Morgan hill 86. Not today. 78. 80. 75 and 81. On the forecast side, san joses 84. Yesterday, 78 today. But dont be surprised if by wednesday there are 88 or close to 90 the way it looks some thick fog kind of dancing around more north of novato as the way it looks right now. Also out to tracy but Santa Rosa Petaluma some thick fog along down towards monterey peninsula as well 40s 50s on the temps hayward 53. Oakland 53 low 50s san carlos menlo park also Mountain View but upper 40s mid 40s for some to the north napa airports now down to 48. This system coming in is running into a lot of resistance in the form of High Pressure. When things start to buckle like that, that usually is a sign theyre falling apart. But some higher clouds will drag across more north. So if youre north, i think you get the higher clouds, any rain would be probably santa rosa north. And by that i mean very light or drizzle, cloudy north, more sun south. So well see 6070s and 80s. Tomorrow we start to warm it up and it jumps big time wednesday into thursday. If you dont like heat, dont you worry because by friday it starts to come down and it comes way down on the weekend. All right. Thank you, steve. But i also see us as this regional paper. We cover what i like to call el pueblo, the people. Hes proud to carry on the tradition of community journalism. Our community, the Latino Community gets kind of really oversimplified. And i think my job here has really allowed me to explore the nuances of our community. Were not just, you know, one people with one cultural experience. Were not one people with just one migration experience. El tecolote has one full time writer, one full time photographer, and relies on volunteers to tell peoples stories. The paper was first founded by volunteers more than five decades ago. Led by a man named juan gonzalez. He was born and raised in stockton. Then moved to San Francisco in the mid 60s to attend San Francisco state university. Counselors were telling me theres no future in journalism. Money cant make a lot of money. Its going to be tenuous in terms of if you have a job. Gonzalez didnt listen. He was only 22 years old. A fresh journalism graduate when he was asked by sf state to stay and become a professor in the la raza studies program. I was teaching people how to write, and there was maybe 15 students is how to write and how to write about community. The neighborhood here, the mission. But there was no place to get the stories published. He asked students to help him start a newspaper serving the needs of the Latino Community. In the mission. We had a fundraiser, an amateur talent show. Raised 350, and that was enough to publish four issues of a four page, 5000 copy edition of a newspaper on august 24th, 1970. The First Edition was printed. I had said to myself and told the staff, look, im willing to commit five years of my life to do this. Okay . Are you with me . I said, okay, at least a year. Yeah, okay. We can do a year. I said, ill take that at the very beginning we were like nomads going from working out of peoples kitchens or garages or, you know, Community Centers would give us some space. And being bilingual right off the bat was really important. This year, the paper marks 53 years in publication in the golden milestone, so it also shows how much it means to folks and it speaks to why were still needed in the community as well. The papers archives are now inspiration for an art gallery in aksyon latinas headquarters. This one featuring comics of stories covered in the 90s. El tecolote has expanded its reach as well with a website and two recently launched podcasts. Its getting harder and harder to live in the Mission District where were currently based, so we want to make sure that were reaching them where were where they are at. Gonzalez is still recruiting volunteers, raising money, and on occasion hell write a story. If youre passionate about something, youre going to make, youre going to make a commitment to do right by it. He credits the papers longevity to Community Support donation bins and the staff. If that army of volunteers over the years, that 400 plus volunteers that contributed to the paper as translator, as writers, photographers, illustrators, designers and distributors of the paper, thats the army that really enriches and made it possible for the paper to exist so long. The hope is el tecolote will keep flying high for another 50 years, amplifying latinx voices. I really always look to this quote as a north star for our work. Yo soy el tecolote. Yo soy la gente. There is word this morning that President Biden is considering traveling to israel in the coming days as the us tries to prevent the conflict between israel and hamas from becoming a wider middle east war. Some say her changes mean criminals are empowered to break the law because they know there will be fewer consequence cases. Price still defends her decision. Ive been seeing and experiencing the crime wave in oakland, and i do believe that its directly related to the da and her policies on restorative justice. As people of Alameda County elected me to do this work. And were doing it in order to get the recall on the ballot. Organizers have to collect 73,000 signatures by march 5th. All right. Our time is 605. Well, happening today. It is october 16th. And that means this year its tax deadline day for the many people in california who did not file their tax returns back in the spring time. Ktvu is andre senior in the studio now to explain why this is unlike any other year for taxpayers in california. Good morning, andre. Good morning to you. David is unlike any other year. It all has to do with those record breaking storms that battered the bay area and other parts of california earlier this year. And the extension is from both federal and state taxes. The irs postponed the tax filing deadline by six months for People Living in 55 california counties that were hit hard by the severe Winter Weather. Those counties include alameda contra, costa county, san mateo, solano, San Francisco, sonoma, napa, marin and santa clara. The record breaking storms led to an unprecedented tax extension for both individuals and businesses, and the deadline is for both federal as we said, and state taxes to because the disaster is in the flooding from january late december, actually into early march, there were various disaster declarations from fema, which allow the irs to step in and postpone and provide tax relief, postponing deadlines, mainly. And so what that means is an extraordinary year. This year, at least they were extended all the way out to october 16th to file and to pay and the irs has an Important Message to taxpayers on this deadline day. They say now is the time to file your return and pay up even if you cannot afford the entire amount of your 2022 tax bill. So the bottom line is file the return, pay something. And that way, moving forward, you can definitely decrease your chances for penalties and interest accruing on the account because you filed the return and did pay something. The powerful winter storms took a devastating toll on homeowners across the state. And the irs says this extension is a form of tax relief for those storm victims. And the irs is reminding california taxpayers they do not need to prove they were directly impacted by the severe Winter Weather to qualify for this. Back over to you. Pam thank you, andre. The growers say unseasonably warm temperatures have been speeding up the harvest. The wine growers report excellent quality as they pick their first Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. And this week is expected to be the busiest week of the harvest in what they predict will be a great year for wine lovers. I think its one of those vintages thats really going to be about sense of place. Its going to be expressive. Each vineyard site is going to be unique. Those later longer kind of mild summers allow really great hang time for flavor development. And so i think theyre just going to be phenomenal. There you go, pam. This follows several bad years in californias wine country because of the smoke created by wildfire fires. So many great wineries out there and Great Stories and people doing good work. Its big business here, sal. All right. Looks like you have a pretty big backup there at the bay bridge toll plaza. I do. As a matter of fact, we are looking at one. Traffic is moving along okay, but it is backed up at the toll plaza which you might expect at this time of the morning. I just want to remind you that southbound to 80 at monterey, a good area to avoid, would be southbound to 80 at monterey off ramp. Theyre dealing with a crash at the top of the off ramp there. So if you are driving and you might want to go down to ocean avenue and take that off ramp instead. Otherwise, were off to a decent start so far for the morning commute. San jose seems light. East bay is beginning to fill in. Well have another update soon at 610. Lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. A win streak dating back to last season finally broken. Were going to take you inside the heartbreaking loss for the 49 ers and some of the injuries. Yes, pretty bad. And a bay area restaurant bringing back a popular promotion. Well show you the musician who is bankrolling a pay what you want meal program mris today after getting knocked out of the game against the Cleveland Browns. And that game ended with the niners first loss of the season. Now, the game started pretty well as mccaffrey turned a pass into a touchdown. Thats the 15th straight game that he found the end zone. But clevelands bad weather and ferocious defense gave the niners trouble all day. Brock purdy threw his first interception. Definitely some throws and opportunities that i feel like that were there for me and i missed on them and that you know made us be behind the sticks and then you have to get a third down, which is tough on the road here, man. And thats something i got to learn from man. Deebo samuel the niners committed 12 penalties for 115 yards, including two questionable penalties that led to the browns. Go ahead, drive. The niners still had a chance to win, but rookie kicker jake moody missed that 41 yard field goal at the end of the game and the niners lost 19 to 17. They earned it and we did this game. I said what it came down to. I would never put it on moody at the end there to say, you know its great that we had an opportunity to win that, you know, in that fashion, but just didnt we didnt earn it has been over on the sidelines worse than the loss the injuries deebo samuel missed the second half because of a shoulder injury. Xrays were negative. Mccaffrey suffered an oblique and rib injury. He tried to play through it but couldnt. And Trent Williams missed a few plays and was wearing a walking boot after the game due to an ankle sprain. The niners have an extra day to recover though as they face the Minnesota Vikings one week from today on monday night football. Our time now 615. He bought out momos cafe for last years Holiday Season in implemented this pay what you can in pay what you want. Policy he brought this concept back last monday and it will run through this week. Bravo to him. Very nice getting people to try a new spot. All right. Time is 618. Lots of spots filled in the morning commute. Look at that. Whats behind us . Sal . Whats going on . I know its it is pretty full. You know, its something that we would expect at this time, dave and pam, the bay bridge is full. It is backed up to the maze. Theres nothing unusual on the bridge, which is good. I like that. Its just one of those routine backups. No problems on interstate 880. If youre driving through. Remember, we had an issue on southbound 280 at monterey. That off ramp is a good area to avoid as there dealing with a crash at the top of the off ramp and highway four is beginning to get a little bit slower as you drive through bay point, the rest of the east bay, so far, so good. It is still early enough for you to get a decent commute at 619. Lets bring steve back in with today his forecast. All right. So well look at yesterdays high temps which came in as advertised. We said, man, it could get up to 86 and morgan hill and it did also livermore at 86. San jose, san rafael, concord, santa rosa. Santa cruz. Vallejo and hayward all in there. Those were all the 80s, oakland was in the 77. I do believe. I think and the city official temperatures still does not work. Theyre working on it. But i did see 75 along the embarcadero Robert Flemings and livermore and says i knew it was hot out here yesterday, but i didnt think it got up to 80. 60. Wow. He did. I mean, you could tell if you went out, you could feel it was warm. Napa danville, san carlos. Morgan hill, all upper 70s low to mid 80s. Today its 78, 80, 75 and 81 on the forecast highs, but guess what . Those temps are back on the way up starting tomorrow. San jose was 84 yesterday. Well go 78 today. A little bit more of an onshore breeze, some fog out there. Novato, petaluma, zero visibility. Petaluma airport, napa airport now in on that. So that tells me maybe around american canyon, maybe vallejo, hiddenbrooke area. Watch out on 80 there by marine world also up to santa rosa and down towards the monterey peninsula. Watsonville south. Theres been some thick fog reports down to salinas as well for his 50s on the temps here. I dont think these are changing all that much. One more system and boy, is it falling apart. If youre south, youll have more sun. If youre north, youll get some higher clouds. But when you see the little bend in it, like that. Thats right. Right there. Thats i mean, that tells me this system is running into too much resistance. But well increase some high and midlevel clouds if theres any drizzle, light rain, id say santa rosa north, and that would be it. If youre south, youd be like, hey, its a nice day. It will be. Therell be more sun than clouds, but a lot of cloud cover trying to inch its way into the north. Starting tomorrow, we clear it out faster and then were going to get hot here for about 2 or 3 days. Wednesday, thursday for sure. Could be some record highs on thursday. Still warm to hot on friday. Big cooldown kicks in on the weekend, maybe some rain next tuesday and wednesday, right now, it looks pretty good. All right. Thank you, steve speedy drivers in several bay area cities are going to want to watch out the new plan just approved to bring in some speed cameras. This is mornings on two heart as we take you live to that opening bell at the new york stock exchange. It is a very busy week for earnings as with some of the biggest names in business reports, Third Quarter results. That includes netflix, tesla and johnson and johnson. Just to name a few. I think about 11 of the s p 500 Companies Report this week right. Aid stocks set to drop about 16 on that bell after announcing it is filing for bankruptcy protection. Well have all the details on that coming up in just a minute. But looks like a pretty good day with the dow jones heading up about 200 points. So its a good start to the week. Thank you for joining us here on mornings on two. Im pam cook and good morning. Im dave clark. Monday morning october 16th. It feels good outside. You just snuck out. I just snuck outside and the sky. I can still see stars and stuff. Steve yeah, we do have some fog, but the cloud cover is probably going to be mainly confined to the north, but there are some pockets of thick fog on the golden gate. Thats fog right there. Some of that fog right down on the deck. So watch out for that 40s and 50s on the santa rosa as well as also reporting about a quarter mile visibility and fog. This system, its toppling over. Its coming in at whats called positively tilted. That usually means its weakening and you can see the southern edge of that is running into a lot of resistance called High Pressure. So more clouds to the north, the october sky might be nice here to the north, to the south. I think you get a lot more sun, but today will be a little cooler with more of an onshore breeze. And then tomorrow we start to warm it up and it gets hot later this week. But 6070s and 80s today. All right. Sounds here east bay, where are we going . Yeah, the east bay is usually where we have the most traffic, steve and this morning on highway four, we do have some traffic there. We also do see that traffic is going to be busy on 80 a little bit, but you know, whats surprising me is its not as slow as i thought it would be. Theres some slowing at the bay bridge toll plaza, but some of the other volume is lighter. So we may end up having a lighter commute or we may end up having know, kind of a mixed bag sometime as it starts off poorly today is not that day. Lets talk about the south bay. Look at the south bay commute. I usually see some slow traffic here, but there isnt any right now. So well just keep an eye on that. 632 lets get back to the desk. All right, sal, thank you. Well, several shootings in oakland over the weekend are being investigated by Oakland Police and three of them were deadly. Among the victims was a teenager. The ktvus allie rasmus in oakland. Now you have the information about the violence and also tonights Community Safety meeting. It was planned before those shootings. Good morning, allie. Good morning, dave. Oakland City Council Member dan kalb had scheduled a Community Safety meeting thats supposed to happen at 6 00 tonight in North Oakland with the Oakland Police department and other Law Enforcement agencies. As you just mentioned, the plans for this meeting were already underway before this weekends violence. But it comes at a time when oakland has now had 103 homicides. This year, the same number as all of last year and two years ago in 2021, there were 109 homicides here is a map showing where the violence happened across the city of oakland this weekend. Since friday night, there have been eight incidents. One was an assault, the other seven on this map were shootings and seven people were hurt in the gunfire. Three people were killed, including an 18 year old woman. The Bay Area News Group reports the teenager and another 17 Year Old Girl were both shot on bancroft avenue around 1130 saturday night. The 18 year old was found dead at the scene. The 17 year old showed up at the hospital a short time later. She was treated for gunshot injuries and is expected to recover. Now several hours before that on saturday evening in North Oakland, near Martin Luther king boulevard and 42nd street, Police Responded to a call about shots fired and found another person killed. We dont have any Additional Information about that victim now, Oakland Police have not said whether they believe any of these incidents and shootings are connected in any way and they have not announced any arrests. Again, that Community Safety meeting that was planned before the weekend is scheduled to happen 6 00 tonight at the b. B. Memorial cathedral on 40th and telegraph. Live in oakland, allie rasmus, ktvu fox two news. All right. Thank you, ali. There is word this morning that President Biden is considering traveling to israel in the coming days as the us tries to prevent the conflict between israel and hamas from becoming a wider middle east war. Israeli airstrikes continue leveling neighborhoods in the gaza strip in retaliation against the deadly surprise attacks from hamas terrorists. Israeli troops now stand ready at the border with gaza for an expected ground invasion. More than a Million People are now sheltering in United Nations facilities as the area is running out of food and water. Not one drop of water, not one grain of wheat, not a liter of fuel that has been allowed in the gaza strip. Today, the Israel Military said 199 people are being held hostage in gaza, which is a higher number than previously reported. Time now, 635 supporters of palestine indians are speaking out all across the bay area. This is the inevitable result of 75 years of oppression and the lack of lack of action from the International Community. Now protesters first rallied at san jose santana row. Then they marched down winchester boulevard, waving palestinian flags and chanting a free palestine from palestine to mexico. Palestine to mexico. They fought up. Walls have got to go. Water. Walls have got to go. There will be innocent people dying. And thats what thats the thing that sucks about war. Now, these bay area protesters are worried that food, water and medicine are not reaching civilians in gaza. The hospitals there are overwhelmed with patients and theyre running out of supplies. Meantime the Jewish CommunityRelations Council says its deeply disturbed by some of the graffiti seen in San Francisco after saturdays propalestinian rally. The Organization Posted photos on social media showing antijewish messages spray painted on windows along market street. The Jewish CommunityRelations Council says its been in touch with city leaders and theyve reported the vandalism to San Francisco police. Firefighters in livermore are trying to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed three abandoned buildings. Now the fire started at home. Street and concannon boulevard at about 515 last night in livermore. A huge plume plume of black smoke. You could see could be seen from the trivalley area. Authorities say the three abandoned buildings were a total loss. A fourth building called the charming fig catering business sustained minimal damage. Over in hawaii on maui, three of the surviving Public Schools in lahaina are due to reopen today. More than two months after a deadly fire almost destroyed the town, at least one of the schools will be using temporary classrooms at a different campus. Officials say the campuses are safe, but some of the parents say they worry their kids could be exposed to toxins left behind by that big fire. All right. 637 is the time. Back over to sal checking in on the morning commute. What should people know, sal . I think they should know that its pretty routine out there. Some of the major crashes weve managed to avoid. Highway four does have slow traffic, which is not unusual, but 680 martinez to walnut creek looks pretty good. A little slowing in richmond. Im not im not all mad at this. It looks pretty good. Kakina spreads to the maze now. There is a backup at the bay bridge, which is typical, but the spanned traffic looks all right. San francisco. Theyre still clearing a crash to 80 at monterey on the off ramp. Its not affecting the freeway and if you look across the bay at oakland 880, north and south, its crowded, but its not all that slow. San mateo and dumbarton bridge still look pretty good. 638 lets go back to steve. I almost forgot you, steve. Its monday, sal. It happens sometimes. My brain needs an extra, i think an extra cup of coffee today. Steve i understand. Thank you, sir. We start nationally. Why nationally . Because look at that deep system. I mean, that is impressive to see this time of year. The ridge of High Pressure is here and then it goes. Look at all the way down to atlanta. Atlanta but i mean, 39, kansas city, 39. Also in Oklahoma City. And thats a deep cincinnati. The nati 49, chicago low 49. So thats a big system. If you watched any of the College Games or pro games back in the midwest this weekend, you probably saw that and thats the leading to that system which brought in a rapid taste of fall. No doubt about it. Now i mentioned this because this same scenario may set up over us next tuesday, wednesday. And thats kind of the way its looking here. But this week after today is going to be about some warmer temps and a rapid warm up here, especially wednesday and thursday before we cool it down on the weekend, this system, unless youre north, youll get some clouds there. South, i think you get mostly sunny skies. I did cool it down a little bit more of an onshore direction here. So nap danville, san carlos, morgan hill, pretty warm on sunday. We had a lot of mid 80s yesterday low to mid 80s. Today its upper 70s, mid 70s to a few low 80s. But even san jose, which was 84 degrees on sunday, i went 78 today probably though by the time we get to wednesday upper 80s to near 90 quarter mile or three quarter miles visibility city there on santa rosa to petaluma napa airport now is a lot thicker yesterday look at tracy though. Tracy is really dipped. Theyve gone from, what, 4 to 2 now, two one half mile visibility. So there are a few areas of dense fog, 40s and 50s on the temps. I think these are these are about the levels that were going to stay. That system lifts north. You can already see a bend in the clouds, but itll drag across us today. Again, if youre north youll get more cloud. Cover your south. You may only get a few high clouds, but 60s 70s, anywhere near the water. Upper 70s to low 80s. But we are all set for what will be a rapid warm up, especially 60s and 70s 80s. Today this looks to be the coolest day of the week by far. Well start to warm up tuesday. Big jump wednesday, thursday looks hot, maybe some mid 90s record highs. The ridge of High Pressure begins to move friday and we drop temps big time over the weekend. Okay steve thank you. Time is 640. The company that used to be called twitter facing another possible legal battle. How the company is now accused of violate sting labor laws. All right. Yeah rookie kicker jake moody missed that 41 yard field goal with six seconds left as the browns beat the niners. 1917 in cleveland, 49ers stars Christian Mccaffrey and deebo samuel will both undergo mris today after suffering injuries in the game. The 40 niners win streak in regular season games has stretched back to october of last year and the nfl now has no more unbeaten teams. Both the 40 niners and the Philadelphia Eagles were defeated. The eagles lost to the new york jets 2214. The jets defense had four turnovers. You may remember the 1972 Miami Dolphins went 17 and zero. They are still the only team in nfl history to win every regular season game. And then the super bowl for the las vegas raiders, even though they squeaked a win against one of the worst teams in the league, theres concern this morning about quarterback jimmy garoppolo. He was taken to the hospital after leaving the game with a back injury head coach Josh Mcdaniels said doctors were doing some tests. They did not have any updates about jimmy g. At this point. The raiders ended up winning 21 to 17 after brian hoyer took over as quarterback. All right. Our time is 645. Well speed cameras. Theyll soon be coming to bay area cities. Governor newsom signed a bill to launch a Pilot Program for the cameras in six cities, including San Francisco, oakland and san jose. The goal is to reduce dangerous driving, improve Pedestrian Safety and catch those speeding drivers. As with those automated cameras in oakland, mayor shang tao released a statement after the signing of the bill saying these cameras will, quote, help us save lives. Its still not clear when the cameras will actually be installed. And theres a new state law that makes low income people in mexico who live near the border with california eligible for instate tuition rates at some Community Colleges. The Pilot Program applies to low income mexicans who live within 45 miles of the border, and they want to attend a participating Community College in Southern California for a. Supporters say itll make education more accessible for people who often travel between mexico and california to work or to visit their family. The Pilot Program begins next year. Itll run until 2029. In todays dollars and cents, one of the nations largest pharmacy chains has filed for bankruptcy. The cabins will cost less than a traditional double occupancy cabin. Solo travelers on certain ships will also get access to an exclusive lounge for alcoholic beverages and snacks. Norwegian says those cabins will be available starting next year. All right. Our time is 648. Happening today, one of the bay areas most popular coffee shops is closing its original store. Philz coffee is closing its original store front in San Franciscos Mission District at 24th and folsom. The Company Opened that store in 2003. It now has more than 60 stores around california and the chicago area. The phils hasnt said the reason theyre closing that particular store, but employees there will be offered jobs at other stores. All right. Back over to sal for a look at our monday morning commute. What are you keeping an eye on, sal . You know, the bay bridge is crowded, but some of the other spans are not. So i think we have a mixed bag with traffic today. Sometimes i guess were seeing a trend of lighter than usual. Monday. This is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. It doesnt seem too severe. 888 looks fine an i look at the south bay commute, i dont see any slow traffic except for one spot. That would be right near the capital express way along northbound 101. And here we are almost at seven. Well see what happens at seven, but i think were going to have a pretty decent monday morning commute. Speaking of pretty decent steve. Steve, how do you do it . Looking sharp today at my friend sal. I read your book. You know, im on chapter six. Thank you. It gets better at the end. Well, i hope so. Yeah. Thank you. Im on pins and needles as it is. All right. We have some fog. Not a lot out there, but yesterday we had a lot more. Ill tell you, it was. You couldnt see across the golf course yesterday. But then about 845, 9 00, poof, disappeared. Santa rosa, a quarter of a mile. Visibility napa airport. So probably american canyon, maybe vallejo, marine world hiddenbrooke somewhere around there, probably some also as well for petaluma, novato got down there and then all of a sudden, poof, it got better. But i think overall its pretty good. Tracy though is down to a half mile and a lot of thick fog down to watsonville, to monterey. Also salinas 50 on some of the temps 40s for others 48. Santa rosa 40s for point reyes. Also petaluma mill valleys 51 degrees. Mountain view is in there. Menlo park is at 50, but walnut creek, concord, fremont, all in there as well. Napa airport 49. This system is falling apart. When they topple over, they kind of bend like that. The highs just not allowing it. Theres no support for it this far south. So well it will drag across a lot of high clouds. If youre south, probably more sun. If youre north, itll turn cloudy. Any rain . I think santa rosa north would probably be the cut off and that will be light. Well get a rapid warm up and then maybe by this time next week ill be talking about rain moving in. This looks like wild swings here in october. Todays the coolest day of the week. 6070s and near 80 degrees by tomorrow, though, we clear it out rapidly and we start a warm up and a big one on wednesday, especially thursday. Possible record highs on thursday, still warm to hot friday. And then just like that, it cools off big time, dave, by the weekend. All right, steve, thank you. Time at 651. You know, its hard to find a parking spot in San Francisco, but you knew that coming up at 7 00 where a new study says youre most likely to get a parking ticket if you dont obey the law now.
