BRUSSELS, Dec 13: Kuwait has played a key role in the reconciliation process within the six member Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), according to a European expert on Gulf issues. “Of course (the late Amir) Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is primarily to be credited here, but it is comforting to see that the new leadership is continuing his work,” Dr. Cinzia Bianco, Gulf Research Fellow at the a pan- European think-tank, European Council on Foreign Relations, told the Kuwait news agency (KUNA) in an interview. “The wider Arab-Islamic region is unfortunately enmeshed in several tensions, regional stability will continue to need players like Kuwait, investing political energy in diplomacy, mediation and stabilization including through the humanitarian aid,” said Bianco who holds an MA in Middle Eastern Studies from King’s College London and a PhD in Gulf Studies from the University of Exeter, the UK.
