La Jolla's storied Whaling Bar is about to be reborn. Will it recapture the mystique of the original?

Over a decade after the bar in the La Valencia Hotel closed and was replaced by a now-shuttered bistro, a prominent restaurant group is opening an updated version this month — complete with its famed whale mural.
