Marc Molinaro, 2018 GOP candidate, endorses Zeldin for governor

ALBANY — Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro on Tuesday endorsed Long Island Rep. Lee Zeldin in his bid for the GOP nomination for governor, a sign that Molinaro is not intending to jump into the race himself as he had considered for many months.
Molinaro — the 2018 Republican candidate who faced Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo — had publicly flirted with another run. He has sent fundraising emails drawing from Cuomo’s struggles in recent months, joked on Twitter about running and spoke at a closed-door meeting of top GOP state leaders last month. 
“The truth of the matter is we need good people who will stand up and fight for ordinary New Yorkers,” Molinaro said in a statement endorsing Zeldin, citing Zeldin’s military service and steadfastness in his beliefs.
