Montana Indian Language Program funding restored in state budget

After legislators proposed a $500,000 budget cut for the Montana Indian Language Program, Rep. Sharon Stewart-Peregoy, D-Crow Agency, said on Thursday the funding had been restored.
Legislators sought to reduce Gov. Greg Gianforte's proposed $750,000 for Montana Indian Language Program (MILP) to $250,000. Because MILP funds are split among the eight tribal nations in Montana, the proposed cut would allocate $31,250 to each tribe.
MILP funding has been moved in the budget from Section A to Section E, which covers public instruction.
Stewart-Peregoy called the restoration of MILP funds a "big win."
