Hey, ari. Thank you very much. We are planning a big show, here, bear with us, we have donald trump facing the fraud trial as soon as this monday, with Special Report, and d. A. Fani willis, taking on trump and the sprawling rico case will begin with trunks address, take a listen. There is an Extremist Movement that does not share the basic belief in our democracy. The Maga Movement and there is no doubt that Todays Republican Party is driven and intimidated by maga republican extremist. They are not hiding their attacks, they are openly promoting them. Trump says the constitution gave him the right to do whatever he wants as president. End of quote. I have never heard a President Say that even in jest. The president , making those comments about the threatening remarks to general mark millie, which were a very big deal. Donald trump posted online an attack on milley, then sa in different time, the punishment would have been death. This is, by any measure, a major scandal. It is not somethg something that has been criticized for, even by his rivals, who say they should be the nominee, not him. Here is what biden said about that silence. This is the United States of america. And although i do not believe even a majority of republicans think that, the silence is deafening. Hardly any republican has called out these heinous statements. The general has also spoken out in public. Lets listen to what he said. As much as these comments are directed at me, is also directed at the institution of the military, every single one of us, from private to general, swore an oath to that constitution. Are you worried about your safety . I have adequate safety precautions. I wish those comments had not been made, but they were. We have taken appropriate measures to ensure my safety e safety of my family. And there is a broader climate of rising fear, rising threats. Donald trump, of course, is tied to a coup, we all know that. Whether it is a crime is what a jury will decide that we all lived through the insurrection, and now, threats t the fbi have actually not just doubled, but risen more than 300 in just the last year and a half. The agency has now created its own unit to deal with this. Much of that comes out of the rightwing attacks that donald trump continues to launch. Now, biden was speaking in arizona. He also honored the late senator and longtime republican john mccain, passing him as part of a bygone era in that republican party. By the way, if you recall the battles over many issues, from healthcare to taxes, these two men knew each other, and clashed constantly on policy, on the direction of the country, on who should be president. But where they came together, unlike what the general just mentioned, was on the constitution, the baseline of unity and democracy. That kind of patriotism use it to be shared, even across many differences between parties, where conceding an election you lost was the norm. A little while ago, i had the honor of calling senator barack obama to congratulate him please. To congratulate him on being elected the next president of the country that we both love. What you see there is the candidate, a republican, a statesman, speaking. And yes, the audience was booing, but of course, at the time, he was the head of the party, he was setting that standard. Now, that booing has turned into something far more menacing, a longrunning physical effort to overturn elections. Not just from a few people in the crowd, they are from people atop the republican party, from trump on down to those other republicans who could not find it in their minds or hearts to criticize him. On that, President Biden is accurate. Not sure i agree with everything he says or does as president , but it is simply true that republicans are silent. What we should do in the context of this big address . The president pointed out that was norm for every president , for decades. President carter and his successor walked to the oval office for private talks. I must say, the president was most gracious, most helpful, and has gone all out to be completely helpful in this transition. I look forward to talking to the president. I am honored that he extended his hospitality to me and my wife yesterday. No matter how we cast our ballots, this election gives us all reason to be proud of our democracy and our country. I hope you will join laura and me in congratulating President Elect obama, and wishing him the very best for his family and our country. This peaceful transfer of power is one of the hallmarks of a true democracy. The peaceful transfer of power from one freely elected president to the next. I committed to President Elect trump that my administered will ensure the smooth as possible transition, just as present bush did for me. Fax. Everybody did it, up until trump decided to pass it to himself. He has proven the antithesis of this required tenet of democracy. There are things people can debate about. Should there be one day of voting or a week . Should the legislature be able to rule on everything, or have upper limits and ceilings . There are parts of governing that we debate. And then, there is whether we will have a free society and government at all, whether we will keep our democracy. We just showed you everyone, across the spectrum, and then, we have the outlier. Through all of american history, and the current maga threat of donald trump. Do you make the same commitment that you will absolutely sir that you will absolutely accept the result of this election . I will look at it at the time. Will you commit to making sure there is a peaceful transfer of power after the election . We will have to see what happens. That is a no. Living room for he hopes to win, and not actually have to take up what would be, of course, the negative space of admitting that he wanted to overthrow the government and install himself. That is ultimately what we saw, what he did, but we live through. He will face trial for now. Whenever, for anyone who is surprised about how outof control things got, it was not out of control. Those are air quotes. It was a plan. It was executed by allies of the president , the proud boys we told the state standby, the militias. And while the legal questions will still be resolved, legal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty, there are legal president the president this moment is speaking to something well beyond the technical legal system, which we respect in the rule of law, but we are not just talking about the rule of law. We are talking about what citizens and informed members of society will do when somebody who has a said that stuff and acted on that stuff is now saying this stuff. He said he would not respect the peaceful transfer of power if you lost. He made it clear, then he went on to try to overthrow the peaceful transfer of power, to overthrow the incoming lawful government of President Elect biden. Now, he said he will go after the Security Services and the military, which, as we know from other countries, the last line of defense if you get out of control and have a stencil, you have the People Holding guns. That stops coups and other countries. He is saying he wants his team to threaten, scare, or murder those people. That is why it is a big story. If you did not believe them last time, do you want to believe them this time . Howard dean is here. He has taken this threat seriously. He is a party leader, a governor, and what a potential candidate. However, we are back with you in 60 seconds. Really nice note to rush home and take a daily hiv pill. Some of the most common side effects include injectionsite reactions, fever, and tiredness. If you switch to cabenuva, attend all treatment appointments. Ready to treat your hiv in a different way . Ask your doctor about everyothermonth cabenuva. Every other month, and im good to go. We are back with governor and former party chair, howard dean. Your response to the warning from the president today . It is disqualifying for him to serve in any public office. But, of course, the voters decided otherwise seven years ago. We really are at an Inflection Point for the interesting thing is, this is going on all over the country, all over the world. There is a guy running for Prime Minister of slovakia, usually corrupt, quite possibly involved in the assassination of a reporter, who is now leading the polls. He will probably lose, because therell be a Coalition Opposing him. This is really a test for the American People. Are you going to be decent people who do the right thing . Look, i did not agree with very much that george w. Bush did, particularly the iraq war and the enormous tax cuts for the wealthy. But i liked george bush personally, and i respected him. I respected john mccain enormously, because of his service to the country. Trump does not respect anybody, precisely because he does not respect himself. That is what he is selling to the American People. He is selling anger, he is selling fury, but he is not selling respect or decency. This is a decision for the American People to make. I always say, the voters are the boss. The boss may be wrong or right, but the boss is always the boss. We are going to find out what the boss really wants. It is their choice. This is where i think biden is absolutely right, their choice what kind of country we want to have. But we will not get what we have back if we lose it this time. Yeah, as you say, there is more on the ballot than two people. There is wider context. Everybody had to figure out how much attention to pay, and how to deal with what trump says and does and posts online. I will say, as a point of reporting observation, on the u. S. Military is paying attention to the threat and responding to it as a threat. That is chilling to think about, someone who used to be the commanderinchief. We have shown the general speaking about that. The violence here is also held out as an effort to disrupt the Legal Process, which i mentioned. Heated rhetoric in anger, the New York Times rts among Trump Supporters have authorities worried about the sk of political dissent becoming deadly. The fbi threats i mentioned have spiked. They have a special unit on this. And then, there are jurors and other citizens, howard, who are not career professionals, who have not necessarily developed thick skin or immunity to this. Your thoughts on all of that . That is a major problem. That is the authoritarian playbook that trump is working out of, threaten people with bodily harm, threaten their families if you dont get your way. It is the classic authoritarian move. First of all, i grew up in new york. Trump cheated and lied his way to whatever he has, and he he will have most of it taken away, because he will probably lose his new York Business license in court in the next few weeks. This is a bad guy. He never should have got as far as he did. He is really sort of an insufficient personality, a clown. But the fact of the matter is, he has conned a lot of americans, and the first people who will suffer in his re election are the people who are voting for him now. He will turn on them because he does not give a about them. The only person donald trump cares about himself. Howard dean, i wanted to get your view, straightforward as expected, on some serious issues. Thank you, governor. Thank you. Appreciate it. We have a lot more on the show tonight, including a witness list that is out for the Trump Fraud Trial, which the governor just alluded to. There are problems there for trump, we will explain that. Storm aqua coming up, one of the Special Reports we have been working on, our Special Report for you as we get near the end of the week on the prosecutor with the broadest case against trump, on the coup plot, why she has regal victories that scare trump world, my Special Report is next. Now to our Special Report. For all the prosecutions that have come out of the january 6th insurrection, from trespassers to those who blatantly attacked police, to the actual malicious seditionist, no trump aid has been put on trial for actions to steal the election either that day or in the weeks leading up to that day. The first trials, though, for any trump aids for all of that will begin next month, and not in jack smiths d. C. Courtroom, but in georgia, because d. A. Fani willis has brought the rico case there against trump and 18 others. People are just starting to learn about this prosecutor. I think it is a choice, actually, between integrity and corruption, good and bad. That was willis, but not talking about this case. There, she was discussing what she called the choice during her campaign for this post. We will get to that in a few moments, it is pretty interesting. But in this case, she previewed these upcoming arguments by outlining the legal theory that trump and his codefendants actually formed a legal gang or Racketeering Enterprise, which existed to overthrow bidens lawful win in georgia. Rather than abide by georgia Legal Process for election challenges, the defendants engaged in a criminal Racketeering Enterprise to overturn georgias president ial election results. That State Racketeering Law is a powerful tool for prosecutors. There were observers who questioned whether this was a reach to use it in the trump case. But i can tell you, williss approach is not specific to trump. She has deployed this powerful law in other nontraditional ways, even before she rose to this job, which brings us to this Special Report for your. Because now, if willis is suddenly a Household Name for news viewers, for people in a maga household, where trump has been attacking her, now that she is the prosecutor going first on the two cases, her record and approach matter. It can inform how these trials go, whether she starts tracking up a winning streak on her way to defeating trump, or his hurdles in a strategy that charges high, and why. I can tell you, willis used the same charting approach in a case some lawyers would not have brought as a rico charge, when she went after teachers and administrators over a wide ranging School Cheating scheme. Willis let that prosecution, indicting teachers as a rico enterprise. While that was a somewhat unusual approach, she gave a fiery set of opening arguments, laying out how she viewed and thus the Prosecutors Office viewed the schemes, victims clearly taken advantage of a bite rico abuse, and that those victims included children. That is at the heart of the states case, the cheating culture, conspiracy. And to create a false impression of academic success for many students in the Atlanta Public School system. Reporter in the nearly threehour opening, Prosecutor Fani Willis talked of failing students and frustrated parents. She wants extra services for her daughter, extra tutoring, and extra services that she is entitled to. But she cannot get them because, when you look at the crc tscores, it says this child does not need them. She is meeting and exceeding the expectation. That is what it sounds like when willis is bringing a case. That record is newly relevant now, because you do not have to be a trump apologist or a School Cheating apologist to question whether that legal theory was too fierce. There are prosecutors who are accused of overcharging cases, simply to stoke fear and leverage to get plea deals out of the overcharging. In that letter, we can tell you some question whether throwing the book at teachers who had no criminal record was the proportionate response to cheating, even if it was an Ethics Problem in schools. Were they overcharged . Was it overkill for many of these people who had never been in legal trouble in their lives . You people really understand what the racketeering charge is, it is most often used for corporations. So, the theory was the Atlanta Public Schools was a corporation. And through the corporation, they made false documents and false statements. Willis, going beyond rhetoric, there, to explain how racketeering as an actual legal matter works in that state, and she won. Atlanta Public School educators, convicted of racketeering, conspiring to fix standardized test scores to improve results. There were thousands of children harmed in this. This is not a victimless crime. There were 11 convictions, three people got seven years in prison, others got shorter sentences, fines, or community service. The case also shows how todays rico defendants can run out the clock. Because we also know that trial ran eight months. By 2020, willis was running to take over the d. A. Office from her boss, incumbent d. A. , paul howard. With two decades of the spirit, but she was facing questions about financial proprieties. Willis seized on that, she campaigned on cleaning up the office, and boldly argued that her boss represented the corrupt ways of the past, which powered her victory. I think it is a choice, actually, between integrity and corruption, good and bad. I think it is a classic fight, and i think that citizens will have to make a choice. We have a District Attorney, now, that works for his own selfinterest, seems to care about things that benefit him, and not the community. I want to thank the voters of this county for believing in me. Tonight is a good night, yall, we made her story. Willis, victory night, there, citing her distinction of the first black woman to hold that office. She began her term in 2021, and leaned right into that assertive approach she had as a prosecutor. She even went beyond some of the ways she had campaigned, faced with a brutal case of a shooter who killed eight women targeted early in her tenure, she went beyond claims she had made as a candidate, and decided to seek the death penalty. That case continues. Many also want to see how willis might expand rico, now that she runs the office. Also accused street gangs of targeting. I have made no secret about it, nor any apology that, as District Attorney of fulton county, My Number One focus is targeting gangs. And she did. The traditional kind, and the other kinds she says you can classify as racketeering organizations. Tonight, we can tell you willis has brought 11 rico cases, including a large prosecution of an alleged atlanta street gang, that, unlike the trump case, has seen those defendants put in jail before trial. So, both men you see on the screen, here, our defendants for the same rico charge in the same place by the same d. A. One is in prison, presumed innocent but incarcerated, and the other, of course, roams free to campaign. That case is also controversial, because willis cited apparent fiction and song lyrics as truthful evidence, Drawing Criticism from prison evolution advocate, libertarians, and civil rights leaders, who said that approach, along with other details in the jurisdiction were wrong, that black defendants were not being treated fairly. That double center, first, relates to atlantas history as well, who is incarcerated before trial in the bond system. I can tell you, willis has faced down those critters, vehemently pushing back on the idea that anything about her work or her background would accept any discrimination. I am an hbcus graduate, howard university, bison. My father is a former, i guess always a black panther. I take a lot of pride in being black in america. In our Special Report, here, this is a significant part of her history, but that she brought up, of course, but also helps you show a little bit of who she is and how she got to this place. Her father was a member of the black Panther Party at one point, smeared as a militant and antilawenforcement group. His career was on the other side of what willis does now, a criminal defense lawyer, representing defense against prosecutors, as the New York Times reports. We actually found footage of mr. Willis, a rising advocate in that movement. We will put it in the context of that era, because he was discussing how people that he worked with in that civil rights resistance saw police like lapd as the enemy, and how he was inspired by malcolm x and mlk. We considered lapd to be the enemy. We thought they were nothing but trouble. They were not there to help us. We just saw them as occupying our neighborhoods. I have met two profits in my life. Two. By any means necessary. I met Martin Luther king, and i met malcolm x. We want justice by any means necessary. We want the quality by any means necessary. Dr. King could get a round up, he had charisma. I dont know how to plan, you just believe in him. We have difficulties ahead. But it really does not matter with me now, because i have been to the mountaintop. That view, what you heard there, was a Formative Influence on willis as a parent and as a lawyer. In fact, fani willis first learned about court from that defense side of the table. She went with her dad to the courthouse often, as early as elementary school, the times reports. This gave her exposure and that is that was crucial. She emphasized she was raised by a single father, so her heart is always with fathers, she has said. She went from that childhood talk of being in the courtroom, she talked about wanting to be a judge in one of the articles we checked, then went on to attend howard and emory law, and graduated in 96, she was in private practice before joining the d. A. Office. Her mein that office have drawn respect from peers, who saw her as a no nonsense prosecutor, a workaholic on complex cases. Another colleague said she proves to be a very good litigator while presenting murder cases because of her courtroom demeanor, her style. She is very dogged and very aggressive. So, by history and most accounts, willis came to this office more prepared than most. She grew up in courtrooms around her father, she has a breadth of perspectives from that defense side of the table and the skepticism of Law Enforcement in civil rights at the time, to what she did, which was obviously develop her own approach as a member of Law Enforcement, bringing these cases, and then the victorious campaign for office. From all the information we have, she was ready to begin this post with that focus, from what you talked about on the Campaign Trail that i showed you tonight, bringing cases against crime, dealing with violence, dealing with gangs. And what she identified as an atlanta gang problem, and using the Racketeering Law against them. There was not any public sign that Donald Trumps losing quest to stay in power would end up in her portfolio, even those last frantic demands of the georgia officials to help him steal the election, that would snowball into a wider plot and insurrection and then an interstate conspiracy. But history has its own momentum. Think about this willis was literally sworn in on january 1st, 2021. The next day, thenoutgoing President Trump and his Chief Of Staff solicited actions to steal valid, lawful votes in georgia election. It was captured on tape. The infamous tape, that we will play a little bit of. That occurred. Think about this. On this new d. A. Williss first full day on the job after being sworn in. It is now part of the evidence that she, as a new d. A. , used to indict and book these rico defendants. Look, all i want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. January 2nd. The rest is now a well known history. I will not go through threst of what happened in the same detail as our report. What was initially cast by some as just thwarted calls or a one day riot is actually a Ng Running Set of plots, stretching from the Trump White House to lawyers, to efforts on the ground. Several of these plots, as you see here in georgia, are now indicted. The evidence and the nature of these coup plots that emerge over time. It was not all immediately clear most things are not immediately clear, and if you think you understand something immediately, that may be a sign you dont understand all of it. We learned about these long running plots for investigations, reporting, interviews, and the House Committee probe, which advanced a lot of this, and was cited by the d. A. In those rico charges, and ultimately, the update is that these plots have been indicted as conspiracies and racketeering. That is because of two people, two prosecutors. That is not a structural thing or a macro thing or a fake thing. That choice to do what had never been done before as a matter of history and precedent is that two prosecutors decided this was a time to act and not defer. And if that meant making precedent, so be it. If that meant risking their reputations and their legal careers if the thing goes sideways, if it meant risking how they are viewed by their peers, so be it. Willis vowed that she was going to do the right thing, no matter how long it took or what Public Scrutiny came. I dont care if the world is watching, i will do it because it is the right thing to do. And here we are. It is really striking, because we look at the big picture, we look at the macro, whether that is the structural way the system works, why campaigns and elections swing back and forth, things that are completely out of any individuals control, like the macroeconomy or what other countries are doing. But this moment in history, which connects with what the president of the net estates, joe biden, what about today, this question of whether there will be full facts evidence, truth, accountability, and nonpartisan rule of law over people who were caught trying to steal the election, as some of them are now running to try to take power again, this is up to a very small number of people. Special reporting, you might recall about jack smith and his history, and now we present this to you, to understand where this d. A. Has come from. Because more than anybody else in the nation, these two prosecutors, and with the first coup case coming, this rico case starting next month, these are the people who have risked a lot because they say they have the goods and the evidence of a conspiracy or racketeering to overthrow the government, and they say they will not stop until they bring their case, prove their case, and convict the defendants so they go to prison rather than back into government. That is our Special Report. We have a lot more coming up in the hour, though, including the by the ministration going after another big tech company, this time jeff bezos in that pressure campaign, and a very serious monopoly case. We have some news out of the georgia case we did not have when the hour started, Donald Trumps lawyers have formally filed with the court, informing the judge in the rico case that they will not request to move that case to Federal Court. That is interesting, because you may recall several trump co defendants, including his Chief Of Staff meadows had tried to do that. Trumps lawyers say they have wellfounded confidence the court will fully protect his constitutional right to a fair trial. So that is kind of a mood swing or a shift, or perhaps just accepting the reality that other people who tried to get to Federal Court had already failed, so maybe it is not worth it in that case. Meanwhile, trump is losing the new york fraud case. The judge ruled that donald trump is likely to lose Business Certificate and may lose control of entire buildings, and dissolution of part of the company. The rest of the trier begins monday. Uses unveiled a witness list today. This is new. Trump himself was at the top. Says he could even lose his Upstate New York fishing cabin. This is sort of like the start of the ultimate resolution. We dont like you, so we will confiscate property and do these things. My cabin in Upstate New York, because it is owned by an llc. That is a corporation, and because i am part of it, somehow, that has to be disbanded. So what or who actually owns my cabin at this point . Donald trump jr. Seems to, if you believe him, be genuinely upset or confounded about this whole corporate Ownership Structure thing. The vast majority of people do not start Shell Corporations to dodge taxes or have layered Ownership Structures. While it can be perfectly legal to do so, it does come with tradeoffs and consequences. It would seem that donald trump jr. , like his father, does not like any of this when it comes back around the other way. Whether this is an appealing argument, the bolshevik angle to the public, will depend on how many people have second homes, upstate cabins, and whether said cabins are owned by Shell Companies. It may prove that donald trump jr. s that will not find a lot of takers for people who say, oh, god, that could happen to me. The trial will continue, with consequent as for all the Shell Companies is largely still to be determined. We will report on that coming up. Next, we turn to a very different story, Where The Button Ministration is clashing with some of the biggest companies, the biggest tech leaders, and some of the most powerful and rich billionaires on the planet. Immediately, i can think of a better desk than that, it is a symbol of spending money on things that matter to customers, as not spending money on things that dont. Those were the days. Amazon founder jeff bezos, back in 1999, when he was all about helping the customer. And while amazon does do a lot of things a lot of people like, and purchase, there are growing concerns about everything from its Labor Practices to it asking like an acting like an abusive monopoly that is not just a critique or an observation, the federal government has accused amazon of doing the opposite of what you heard basils claim, there but in fact, the Federal Trade Commission with 17 states have basically a group case that says amazon is an unlawful monopoly, and that uses and abuses monopoly power, meaning, that but for the power it has, it would not otherwise be able to get away with harming customers the way it does, and steers shoppers even toward more expensive products, very different from the old claims that the founder made, and they allege amazon will punish Small Businesses by thwarting competition. So, sometimes these stories are covered as kind of a Big Business Versus critics of business divide. What this particular case says and there are other issues about amazon but this one says quite clearly, amazon is also against other lawful businesses, including smaller ones. It has been caught offering lower prices and sellers then face total exile from the amazon marketplace. In other words, it is a legal and less violent version of the mafia saying, you know, you have got to Pay Protection or you wont be able to run your shop at all. Amazon has a huge power. It controls about half of all retail purchases online in our nation. That is a lot more that in the old days, when there were a lot of competitors, and of course, we did not have the internet. Now, how does it use that power . That is what is being litigated. Amazon response, if the government gets the long wrong, and the company spurs Competition Innovation across the industry, and is produce greater selection, lower prices, and faster delivery speeds. Th basically disagree with the view of the law and fact, here but you may notice part of the answer is true, but possibly beside the point. Amazon has certainly sped up how deliveries are made, how many boxes you can get and how fast you get them. I think people know about that. Whether you get fast delivery from amazon does not necessarily mean that amazon is not also squeezing out the competition, including momand pop stores and small retailers, which just want to get their stuff listed or want to do business in ways that might be more generous and less cutthroat than this giant, powerful corporation. The suit comes at an interesting time. There is a yawning wealth gap, which we have covered in various ways on this program. There are more economic anxieties since the pandemic, and inflation. And big tech, seizing powers, and the Ai Revolution coming in ways that people fear threatens their jobs, even with decorative training. The Justice Department is not dealing with all of this at once, but it is dealing with more than usual. The Amazon Thing At Ftc is one part of the by demonstration, and now the doj is taking on another huge tech company, google, over its alleged monopoly. The by demonstration says, while this may not be the sexiest topic, and while they may not get a lot of credit for with Everything Else going on, they have put in place the professionals to take on big tech. The by the administration is signaling an aggressive new approach to corporate mergers. Present but in nominating lena kohn, perhaps signaling a tough stance against Big Tech Hvac Kohn has faced criticism from the pelicans for the sweeping leadership its back present but it is nominating Jonathan Cantor to lead the Antitrust Division and department of justice. If your google in particular, i would be shaking in my boots. Those are not all Household Names. Most of them probably will not become Household Names. But some of the most powerful billionaires in our economy, and thus in our politics, people like jeff bezos, who owns the washington post, and has a lot of influence in a lot of ways, they are learning those names fast. Because we are in a time where stuff is complicated. You cannot just break apart these companies all at once. But the status quo is for things to continue this way, and those new people the president put in are the first line of defense in possibly questioning this big tech, big billionaire status quo. We are joined by someone who knows all about this, senior Tech Reporter from fox, sarah morrison. Welcome. Hi, how you doing . Doing all right. Lets stipulate that amazon has done some good things. A lot of people during covid found the Delivery System to be really helpful. And that, according to the evidence in this case, it is on a lot of things that are unfair. What do you see as important and what this case could do or change . The thing that jumps out to be most in this is that, unlike some of the other Tech Antitrust Complaints or issues, this one really emphasizes that amazon sells Physical Goods for real money. It is not a free service, like some of these other things. So you can measure demonstrable harm if you can prove that what has been done has made consumers pay more than they otherwise would. That is a big part of this case. I think it is probably a smart approach, because it is something that people and a judge will be able to really latch onto, as proof of how amazon is maintaining an illegal monopoly. Is it monopolistic . I dont think there is any doubt that amazon is a monopoly. It is not illegal to be one. Even having various Business Practices that it has, the case says they are all interconnected, and they were to reinforce it. If those things are exclusionary , hurting competition or hurting consumers, and if amazons power, how it wielded, is how that happens, then it is an illegal monopoly that i am not saying that it is an illegal monopoly, but i am saying that is what the case alleges, and that is how the law is generally supposed to work. Yeah. I have a little more classic bezos, take a look. A lot of Internet Companies are now raising prices, realizing that the things they were doing before just were not sustainable. At amazon, we are actually lowering prices. We just reviewed our top 1000 bestselling electronics, and decided our prices were too high. We are lowering those, actually doing the opposite. Has he changed . Has the tech Business Model change . And as the mood of this, the public mood seems to be that, after a lot of enthusiasm, even excitement about various aspects of the initial tech revolution, there seems to be a lot of buyers remorse, and even anger toward the way these companies operate, especially when their prices and their offerings seem to go back up once they have squeezed people out. We are back to youve got mail for those who remember. The thing about this case is that, what it is alleging amazon does is not just raise prices on its platform, but has ruled that sellers have to follow, where they cannot sell things for less anywhere else. So, not only is It Inflating Prices on amazon, it is also inflating prices that you pay even if you dont shop on amazon. So, in that regard, people are seeing what appeared to be the lowest prices, but they may not be the lowest prices possible, just what they are seeing. So it can be deceptive, if what the ftc is claiming is true. People go to amazon, and i hear this a lot, it is famous lowest prices, you just showed an interview where he said that. The question is going to be, how are those lowest prices actually happening . And is it hurting us . Understood. I think it will be keeping you and people on your beat pretty busy, sarah.
