Niger: Antonio Guterres worried about the health of the ousted president of Niger

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed concern about the poor conditions in which the ousted Nigerien head of state Mohamed Bazoum is being held captive. He has called for his immediate release. The countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are meeting today at a special summit to discuss the situation after the coup. After the coup d'état, Ecowas called on the military to reinstate the president by last Sunday evening. The deadline passed without a military operation.
