NORTHAMPTON — A 77-year-old Northampton man pleaded not guilty Friday to one count of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation in a case involving a two-vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Westhampton last October.
Thomas Hanley was arraigned virtually in Northampton District Court and is due back in court June 14 for a pretrial hearing, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office. Hanley was ordered not to operate a motor vehicle by Judge Laurie MacLeod while the case remains open.
Prosecutors allege that on Oct. 22 at approximately 3:25 pm, Hanley, who was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, crossed over the double-yellow line on Route 66 in Westhampton without signaling, directly into the path of an oncoming Harley-Davidson motorcycle being operated by David Foster, 57, of Huntington, according to the DA’s office.
