A bus brought down a utility pole in Paramus on Thursday afternoon, leaving live electric wires strewn across a road.
Nobody was injured in the mishap, which shut down an intersection and left hundreds of residents without power, police said.
A tractor-trailer clipped a utility pole around 4:20 p.m. while attempting to make a turn from Forest Avenue onto Howland Avenue near Van Saun County Park.
The utility pole cracked and lowered but did not collapse, Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said. But at nearly the same moment, an NJ Transit bus turned from Howland onto Forest Avenue and got caught in the lowered utility wires, bringing the pole crashing down to the road, according to Ehrenberg.
