Though it’s flying under the radar due to going head-to-head against Canelo Alvarez’s return on DAZN, Showtime is wrapping up their 2020 in boxing on Saturday night at 9 pm ET, featuring a solid triple-header where younger fighters meet more established veterans, a totally re-worked card (twice over, at that) that nonetheless has a lot of talent on board.
In the main event, former bantamweight titleholder Emmanuel Rodriguez (19-1, 12 KO) will face Reymart Gaballo (23-0, 0 KO) in a 12-round bout for the interim WBC belt at 118 pounds.
The main event was originally meant to be Nordine Oubaali defending the WBC title against Nonito Donaire, then Donaire facing Rodriguez for the vacant WBC belt (Oubaali has been moved to “champion-in-recess”), and now is Rodriguez taking on Gaballo, a 24-year-old Filipino who was originally going to open the card. It’s a huge chance for Gaballo and an opportunity for Rodriguez to keep himself in the high-end mix following his 2019 loss to Naoya Inoue.
