Mayor Holly Smith began a special meeting called this week to discuss the need to find a successor by noting that the manager's retirement means the city is faced with important decisions and a period of transition ahead.
"This will be the most important decision that we will make from this dais," Smith said. "We all understand the big shoes to be filled as we look forward to the future of this island."
Even before the discussion about a successor to Zimomra began, a campaign was underway urging the council to pick a ranking city employee for the top job.
