State commission sounds alarm on green waste implementation

Senate Bill 1383, passed in 2016, requires municipalities to collect green waste – such as yard trimmings and food scraps – and cities across Humboldt County, in addition to the county itself, have been scrambling to implement the bill’s requirements, which aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from landfills. However, a recent report from the Little Hoover Commission, a state oversight agency, noted statewide struggles for compliance.
