An elderly man gets vaccinated in Bhubaneswar
BHUBANESWAR: Odisha on Monday achieved one lakh vaccination mark of elderly people and persons with comorbidities (above 45 years) on a single day. The government a week ago had set a target of inoculating one lakh elderly persons on a daily basis.
Of the total 1,00,273, who received the shot, 95,576 are above 60 years and 4,697 with comorbidities. “Today we have crossed one lakh vaccination of people on a single day according to the target fixed by the health department,” said additional chief secretary (health) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra.
Because of pre-registration glitches in rural areas, the vaccination of elderly was going slow. Although, mostly in rural belt, elderly were turning up for vaccination through mobilisation, they were returning home without taking vaccine as they were not willing to wait till the registration was done in Co-WIN portal. But the health department fixed the problems and expedited the vaccination process from Monday achieving the target.
