He said trays of olives placed on tables helped “refresh the palate and cut through tannins”.

“Taking care of your mouth is a very big aspect of it too.
“Some judges say to avoid coffee, it can be quite overpowering, but coffee is a good refresher on the palate.
“I personally avoid milky drinks, it muddies my palate,” Russell said.
