Use it with so way 14 minutes past 8 Good morning some day on radio today and we are about his life music but I want to chime fast because there were a few that directly know I sound of the sirens Abby Martin and Hannah would that based in Exeter but they've come up to town because they're about to go on tour and you supporting an American artist and we were just talking about the box you get your 1st tour bus. Come believe that we've just gone on the stage coach around next a typical Oh so this is a real upgrade How did you how did the 2 of you mate. Each other in a nightclub we worked behind a bar who timepiece about 10 years. Yeah we forgot how long ago you know and so we just we used to work together and then we'd walk home and sing randomly together on the way home and there were stones All right so we joined a function's band and did that for about 5 years yeah till we decided to write our own music and gradually put in original music and then here we are now how has got a traditional guitar Ok Very nice very lovely looking guitar Abby has got something completely different mandolin and where did you find it little tiny weeny thing and it's pretty isn't it I think I just well I like that they look a little bit antique and they're a bit curtly in per se and they sound great I would say that's their main thing all right so listen Saturday night so you are going to sing for us this morning a track that your self is this is this on the new album it is yes what's it called what's it about this song is called chaos and it's quite it's a bit of the moody one for a Sunday morning so this way people are Ok right are you prepared to be what this is listen the sun is shining through your windows stream 1000000 on you it is time to wake up and if you are feeling sort of still in that slumber mode you're about to. Get it here we go singing live in the studio the sound of the sirens. The lines of. The column. Chaos sound of the sirens big sums up definitely a big thumbs up that sounded great you don't live there you just looked at each other then they were. Really good say the tiger your 1st album for last since this little chap called the confession isn't there so much that there's a faith based to this. Not necessarily but that could be absolutely like I think a lot of AA songs are about maybe letting things go and overcoming things but yeah I think we can read into most of our music and take what we've been through that sound of the sirens What does that mean. The creek. Yeah so yeah people into the rock that's right yeah this is from a great song to try well yes and I think you want to do that you know exactly and I think in a way then you know. I think it's actually a new direction and I think the signs Luthe into that death. Don't you would putting a positive spin on this in the only hearing them into a lot of music and a feeling afraid to wellness to your definition that you're off on shore so Germany Belgium France the Netherlands then you come back so you came to some you go you go around the country in December that Manchester London Bristol Liverpool Sheffield all the details on your website say sound of the sirens dot net and I would say having sat here in the studio and hearing them life that's just great brilliant and you sound asleep when I put my headphones on you sound lovely to so I think you've got a whole new whole new lady fans there for Sunday morning that was and the will be feeling upbeat and getting out on to the Sunday morning have a pretty rest the day good luck with the solar Thank you Santa the sirens. In your. Time old. Girl. When you're brave to serve all. All ask. When you will. Expire. 2 and it's just. Kristen I'm on the wrong night bottle. Planet to have a little now baby seal. His great program I mean honestly if you haven't managed to catch every single one of them say far definitely worth watching but if you can do that thing where you get I player on the telly to be able to watch it on the biggest screen it's it's just simply stunning and before that you have Gretchen Peters and before vats sound the sirens where he live I thought well they great and actually I want to go to one of these that I want to go to one of these festivals to heaven because the ray breeze in Rossum Why say or some music from south of the sirens 1st saw them at the cheese insider and music festival in Somerset followed them ever since I want to cheese and wine and it's been cited as Festival. Since. Its. Brain. That Sandy Brown and Chrissy Rose wave hit me like a landslide out of the math of Babe sis and from Bedford this week my little grandson dug his nearly 6 was helping his mom make charity shoe boxes as he was helping and he said we don't need presents we have each other Oh says make you think that makes you think doesn't it doesn't also have things that you don't need in the things you could give to people who do Stephen internees following the travelling but I'm to Scotland off to celebrating the 25th wedding anniversary in Jamaica a rebel flag. Julian in Ipswich is about to be very very happy he says I love listening to your show every week and I'm really looking forward to hearing Maisie Williams today along with an app of the album and some a night City single bunny ems Rivers about being on a night flight to being us with my 1st records that I received my birthday in 1978 the it. Was bad the way it was that. The Boney m. With Rivers of Babylon and my guest this week is Maisie Williams best known for being part of the original lineup of Boney m. From its beginning in the mid seventy's and she's still performing today with songs from its remakes back catalogue like Daddy Cool and Rasputin's and rivers about among lots more as well as was performing Maisie's also focused on what she calls spiritual and in a beauty she came into the studio recently and I started by asking her about the boney m. He is on the number of biblical references in their repertoire I don't think it was something that we actually planned it just happened. Song Rivers of Babylon for a start I mean that was just a song that we thought was a good song for us to record but with a really jumpy melody to it the words as you know from the Bible it just happened it drearily just happened even though we all kind of you know brought up religiously grew up in the church and God fearing people but I think was just meant to be and Mary's boy child Mary's boy child well that was a song that several people has recorded that before and when we decided we wanted to do a Christmas album we thought that could be a key song on the album but we wanted to change it up a little we didn't want it to just sound like you know that very typical sing along everyone to have a Christmas song but so we thought what can we do to make it a bit different so we thought put a little bit of disco a bit of steel pan to it and make a little bit more poppy So we did that and when we actually finished the production with a well we really loved it thought that this is. Really good no one has ever heard it like that before and you know what just from 3 orders we had double platinum just one preorders for that particular song and here we are have many years later and it's still being played exactly way up to Christmas and over Christmas and beyond Exactly and we add a little bit of biblical verses to it that oh my lord yes and just sent to save us oh my lord you know to keep it in that spiritual vibes type of thing so that people can say oh wow that is really a good Christian gospel you call a gospel Christmas song and what was your own religious upbringing you grew up on Montserrat Yes Yeah months or I grew up you must read I grew up as a Catholic in the Catholic Church as a Christian young lady should be. Going to Sunday school and all that and you know it was really important in our household to read the Bible go to Sunday school and be God fearing when when we actually decided to cross over a little in the world of like Mary's boy child and risible on it was like God was telling us hello I want you to remember where you're coming from. Yeah I was good and tell me a bit about your family and what they did and when when performing 1st gravity from I was a little girl in months or at and the 1st time I actually performing one of the Christmas school play I loved it I thought wow this is good you know and 1st it was acting a little bit of singing a little bit of dancing and I really enjoyed it so much that I think it actually touched my soul and I knew that was my calling and I got the support from my mother and my my father not so much he kind of thought that showbusiness that's not a career so he wanted us to have good education and choose a good stable job that will support. Throughout your life whatever but I knew that was not for me so I decided Donny sorry I want to be in the show business world so one thing led to the other I decided Ok how my going to start this off so I decided I wanted to be a model because I was really skinny in them days I was so skinny everyone kept saying to me why don't you be a model so I did I try that out and went to modeling school from the mother School in Birmingham I wanted to take a bit further my mother wouldn't allow me to leave home before I was 20 she said that's a no no so when I was 20 I said Ok Mommy I'm ready to go. So I wanted to move to London and I did go to the Academy of modeling to finish training in modeling and grooming and all that and how did you find that I loved it it was a different world of course come ph a little school that I went to in Birmingham but this was like a major thing for me you know kind of me of modeling on Bond Street is like hello so that was really exciting and lo and behold it was through my modeling that I got sent to Germany me and a friend it's like there is work in Germany or Italy and I said How long are we going to be there for this is roughly about 3 weeks something like that so he said Ok we'll go there was that we had nothing better to do so we chose Germany I mean is that why Germany I mean why not Italy who knows in Germany while I was there I was approached by an entertainment agency who wanted to put a group together it's a black group anyone 3 black girls and a guy and it would like to know if I would be interested in becoming part of this group so kind of for us I thought. Yeah right. But then I thought Ok Tell me more so explain to me come to the office the next day they gave me an address come to the office next day and I will explain the whole thing to you so I did exactly that and they explained that yeah he already had the name Boney m. So he just need the people now and I would be the 1st person that they actually approached for this and would I be interested in doing it as well 1st of all when my what I sent you to do is over I have to survive I don't know how I'm going to do that you know without work so they explained to me you know if you accept then you put on a retainer and you will be Ok And we'll find you somewhere to stay and all that so I said Ok I have nothing to lose why not come in and that the rest is history and that is how you became part of Bernie Yeah Maisie Williams is my guest this morning now you get to choose a piece of music thing you love the piece of music that maybe you go to when you need a lift What's your favorite track. You know many of them but one that I really do like time. I just love you I love that. I just called the sound of you by Stevie Wonder the choice of my guest this morning Maisie Williams who you will know I was part of Pony am hugely successful group but as we were hearing you started out as a model and really you are a woman of many talents and at the core of all of them is confidence yes there's a comfort in its to be out there on a catwalk or on stage yeah she's did that come naturally to you Did you have to learn it no actually it was kind quite natural to me it was just something that I just wanted to do from excitement I just loved being on the state on the catwalk I never really thought about the fact that I was nervous or obviously you're nervous but you don't really think about it because the excitement is greater so some people would say that led by the head rather than the heart but it sounds from from everything you've said when you say life is all about relationships not money material goods arrestee success you've said without emotional love spiritual and in a b c My life would not be complete Mazie you are led by a set your heart by yourself that my mother taught me that as well she is she taught me that if you're going to do something in life to do it with all your heart do it with love she said no matter how low the job is she said if you're not going to do it with your heart and love then forget about it if you really want to do something then if you love it enough that passion must be there that's all you need really that's the fuel that you really need to drive you to get to that height that you really want to go that you really hope you will and one day and. The truth is I never really thought about it in the way that I get most young people today think about it I never really thought of it that I wanted to make a lot of money or I wanted to be you know like rich and famous and I like that I just wanted to perform to if I said to now what is your passion right now what do you do that lifts your heart. I and I still enjoy touring but there's other things that I love to do like you know things that helping others charity work I love working with kids I love I think it's such a beautiful thing to work with kids and just pos on to them what I have myself achieved you know guiding them giving them you know uplifting sprue chill uplifting when it comes to how to go about it and how to actually get ahead of life and not allow life to pull you down really because it can be very easy you know a lot of the young kids today there's a lot of negativity out there and if their love that to control them it will keep hold them down and they won't never get to their potentials and I believe everyone has a purpose I believe God made each and every person with a purpose and it's only for us to find out what is that purpose what is that that drives me what is it that I'm supposed to do and once you find that out your self this question Why am I here what am I meant to do what is my purpose in life. Then once you accept the question then you have to decide what is it you enjoy what is it you love doing most that make you want to get up in the mornings and look forward to that new day and once you come to terms with that then you're on your way and then him with a few successes I mean everybody must have been surprised at quite how big they became and for how long we were surprised. We were surprised how big we were guys like well it took us by surprise by storm is like a lot of people refer to overnight success but it wasn't an overnight success we worked very hard in the beginning in you see what happened once this one the group was formed once found for and we found the 4 people and the group was complete It's like Ok we have to survive because everyone gave up what they were doing to be part of this company that you know called it a company because that's what it is really so we sort of perform at a functional function it was like. A showcase showcase really and in this showcase there was promoters from all over the country of Germany Austria and Switzerland and from this showcase we were booked up touring nonstop throughout Germany Switzerland Austria all those countries over there before we actually went in the studio and recorded that it cool which was the 1st hit. So by the time we recorded dat it cool we already done the promotion. So by the time it was released a lot of people knew exactly who Boney m. Was just from seeing us performing in nightclubs and funk festivals and places like that so we did the promotion and we worked very hard at it we did that for several months because it took a while before we could get all the material together for the album so while we were doing that we were touring you are still going out there you still performing what sort of music you doing now. Well I've done a gospel album that's a solo album I've done that is something that I was close to my heart so I did that I wrote a book about it I'm not sure health and beauty which is to be released next year I learnt a lot from my grandmother and my mom about all the natural Herb's and all the ways to take care of yourself not truly and all that so people were saying to me why don't you put that in a book because you're always seems to be you know giving all these tips here and there put it in a book so I thought Ok Eventually I did that and the book is written just to be released there's lots of other things that I would like to do it is my dream to record a classic jazzy album that would sound amazing Yeah good luck with everything just a choice to see that's Maisie Williams thank you Macy You're welcome. Then. To tell me the to still still a. Half hearted. Take . Dream. Please. Come. On shoulder. Take. A little beat. Now that will be the 1st time on the radio that you have heard because that's an exclusive play but it will get played a lot more it's go cold me and it's an elder man Jack before that you were hearing Maisie Williams Talking about life a career and she's now taking part in the 40 years of disco tour next year for 2018 it features sista slide show and Rose Royce and Boney. And the real thing Odyssey. It's going to be for Rena dates for tickets there's there's information available on the website oh I found cents a lovely picture Christina Allen sent me the most gorgeous picture of the of her grandparents celebration that platinum wedding anniversary this July surrounded by friends and family and the names edgy and barrel they met acid and they enjoyed it ons to Vera Lynn's who's taking you home tonight at the anniversary celebration this summer and she says we've left them like it's Christina Michael Stephen françoise an older family I'm sending big hugs to Eddie and Beryl sharing that anniversary year with the queen and the cheek of Edinburgh to celebrate that. And is a treat from. David Grundy says he and his wife Anne have connections because it's their anniversary tomorrow as well they celebrating 46 years and also why fans Betty's the 21st of April says she was gets mentioned on that day. a landmark kind of assays and I'm particularly at marring if those who are all following the example the queen and veteran know Foss told me they. Want to say a special hello to you because you are celebrating a 55th anniversary. Are you days but you were the whole 5 years in the hospital and she says The house seems to still and quiet.
