In the championship play 0ff final later, with the premier leagues riches on offer for the winner. A morale boosting teamtalk doddie weir and rob burrow get together for the First Time Since lockdown, sharing their experiences of life with Motor Neurone Disease its tuesday, 4th august. Our top story the First Students in the uk to get their grades after exams were cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic will find out their results today. More than 130,000 school and College Leavers in scotland will hear this morning how theyve done in their nationals and highers. The results will be based on estimates which were submitted by their teachers. But its thought there could be a rise in the number of appeals. Alexandra mackenzie reports. For aidan, like many others, it is an uncertain and anxious time it is results day but students receiving their grade did not set for exams. Last year, it was down to what i did on the exams but to have a rough gauge on our eye have done in the subject, it is more wiring. Sent march classrooms have been empty and playground fell silent. This announcement in the scottish parliament. It is a measure of the gravity we now face that i must today announce exams will not go ahead this year. Todays graceful national five, ahead this year. Todays graceful nationalfive, higher ahead this year. Todays graceful national five, higher and advanced higher convocations are based on estimates by teacher, taking into account alumina results and coursework. The estimated grades we re coursework. The estimated grades were then moderated by the scottish qualifications authority. They had to ensure a fair process as well as maintaining the credibility of the system as young people look towards further study and an increasingly challenging job market but it is fed some students could be at a disadvantage, especially those who rely on cramming at the 11th hour. The problem is, the works that would have done in the two or three months done before the exams is not able to be used in an appeal because the schools were close so these students will not be able to use that last minute work. Unlike in previous yea rs. Last minute work. Unlike in previous years. For those unhappy with the grades, the appeals process is free and, whatever the results, the class of 2020 has certainly made history. Alexandra mackenzie, bbc news. Scientists are warning that the uks Contact Tracing system isnt good enough to prevent a second wave of the coronavirus when all pupils are back at School Across the uk in september. In a study published today in the medicaljournal, the lancet, they say their findings should be a wake up call to the government, and not an excuse to keep classrooms shut. Health correspondent laura foster reports. Experts agree, it is crucial pupils return to school for both their well being and the economy. By the start of next term, some would have been awake for almost six months but mathematical modelling suggests the uks test and trace and isolate system is not working well enough to work safely because it is not finding and isolating enough contacts. The research is saying, u nless contacts. The research is saying, unless improvements are made, it could lead to a second wave this winter, more than twice the size of the first stop this is because School Reopening goes hand in hand with lockdown measures being relaxed. Measures have been put in place to ensure schools can reopen safely according to the government. Laura foster, bbc news. Very encouraging i must have to add that the virus is receding. Books of condolences to the family of the Nobel Peace Prize winner, john hume have been opened in londonderry and belfast. Over the years, sheep rustling has slowly become an organised crime, costing farmers millions of pounds. The problem has escalated during the lockdown with the farmers insurer, nfu mutual, recording a spike in thefts of livestock and expensive equipment. Phil mackie has this report. This is one of the reasons criminals wa nt to this is one of the reasons criminals want to still agricultural equipment. This was taken from sta bles a equipment. This was taken from stables a few miles away and used at a machine smash and grab in the actio. It fetches big money in Eastern Europe. Some are recovered and brought back to the country. Couple have been brought back from poland, this one is valued around 28,000 pounds, it was stolen in leicestershi re 28,000 pounds, it was stolen in leicestershire from a farm. The value of vehicle theft went up 20 last year to more than £9 million and a lockdown has made things worse. Easy to get away with. We have been in a state of lockdown so stuff could be moved and headed without police attention. People have been able to get stuff out of the country because the Border Police have been tied up with other issues. The value of Livestock Theft went up to £3 million and organised criminal gangs and become more brazen during lockdown. No matter how much security you have, you cannot keep a remote field like this com pletely cannot keep a remote field like this completely safe from criminal gangs and they are worth £3000 ahead so no matter how many fences or gates there are, they are prepared to break through that to steal the cattle. The gate was locked, it wasnt broken, it stayed locked but they accessed. They kicked in the wooden panels and accessed through the doors on the road. He had 100 sheep stolen from his devon farm. The doors on the road. He had 100 sheep stolen from his devon farmm can happen at any time. It is a worry. The farming communities do their best with Community Watch but, at the end of the day, if people wa nt to at the end of the day, if people want to get in and steal something, they are going to do it, no matter what you put into their way. The latest trend is to kill the sheep on site and sell the meat on the black market. For the public, the right big Health Concerns about meat that could be slaughtered or produced in makeshift abattoirs, in a very unhygienic condition. This is another example of stolen Farm Machinery used to commit other crimes. 0nly machinery used to commit other crimes. Only this time it was stopped. Phil mackie, bbc news. Well be speaking to phil later in the programme who will be live at a farm in worcestershire for us. Lets take a look at some of todays front pages. The mirror leads on scientists warning that a second wave of Coronavirus Infections could be twice as big as the first because of failings in the test and trace system. It says the situation is a time bomb. We are talking to one of our gps and just a moment and we will ask him about some of those issues. The telegraph reports that leaked documents about trade negotiations with the us used by labour during the 2019 election were stolen from the email account of liam fox, who was then International Trade secretary. The theft has been blamed on russia. The times says that doctors are being urged to prescribe exercise or acupuncture before traditional painkillers like paracetamol. Thats the draft guidance from the National Institute for health and care excellence, which is concerned about addiction. And the Belfast Telegraph devotes its entire front page tojohn hume, the former sdlp leader who was a key architect of the good friday peace agreement. It carries a quote from the former us president bill clinton, who said he helped forge the peace that has held to this day. A quick look at the inside pages. On one page, a couple of stories. The first one, an ongoing thing about where the weather is hot, beware dangers. Just saying that dog owners urged to be careful that too much exercise in the sun can cause canine heat stroke. Just warning that people should be careful and they sang 40 of dogs that suffered from heatstro ke sang 40 of dogs that suffered from heatstroke have gone on to die so it isa heatstroke have gone on to die so it is a really serious condition for a dog. So take care of them, especially this week. Roger federer, this is a great story. You can see exactly what is happening here. That is such a sweet story. Victoria said she nearly fainted when he showed up. He is my favourite player. He started playing shots between his legs from one roof to the other which is amazing. Isnt that lovely. I love this story. Sometimes you want information quickly and you look it up on a surf engine and maybe you do not check your fax which obviously as journalists we would do. Fax. Wa nted journalists we would do. Fax. Wanted to make a traditional way of making redeye, this isjohn, google came up with items including high tail lizard, and it was entirely fictional. So he put it in his book and people read the book andi his book and people read the book and i like, iam not sure that his book and people read the book and i like, i am not sure that is right . He says, it is funny, you are totally right, i dont remember but i must have googled it. He will keep the list in the paperback version. It becomes part of the story. Part of legend. It is not the real recipe. It is beetroot, isnt it . Dont do that either. Just eat the beetroot. That is safer. Dont use it to colour your clothing. Hays travel are just the latest in a string of companies to announce redundancies in the last week. Well be talking to the owners just after 7 00 about their reasons for the job losses. But, nina, its a familiar tale, isnt it . Yes, all too familiar. Hays travel are cutting up to 878 jobs, mainly from shop floor. Some of them will be ex thomas cook workers who were rescued when hays took over in 2019. Dw sports, the retail chain, has confirmed its going into administration 1,700 jobs at risk there. And hsbc yesterday said theyre set to bring forward their redundancy plans. In the past week, tui, selfridges, byron burger, the National Trust have all announced losses. 0ne estimate . Around 150,000 ukjobs have gone since the beginning of the pandemic. Hays have, in part, blamed changes to the furlough scheme, because as of august 1, employers in theJob Retention scheme had to start paying the National Insurance and the pension contributions of their staff on furlough, putting new pressures on already struggling firms. Under the scheme, workers get 80 of their salaries paid for by the government up to £2,500 a month. But from september, that proportion the government pays goes down, employers will pay 10 with the government topping up 70 . And that support drops again in october with employers having to pay 20 of their furloughed staffs salary. Come november, the schemes gone. There have been calls for the government to extend the scheme, but they have insisted itjust isnt sustainable long term. Some economists have warned that the october cliff edge is causing some employers to act now and that things are set to get worse. With the furlough scheme planning to end in october, there is a concern thatis end in october, there is a concern that is exactly the time that there may be further peak in the infections from covid 19, which may then lead to a further contraction of activity. If firms start to shake off employment at that time, the level of unemployment could rise to 10 or more according to our calculations, and we are back to a one in ten number that many of us remember is a scary number for social cohesion. And if we can think of policies to smooth that, just as we wa nt of policies to smooth that, just as we want to smooth the peak in the coronavirus, we want to smooth any peak in unemployment to maintain peoples futures as far as we can in these difficult times. It is a better option than letting those unemployment numbers rise rapidly and ina unemployment numbers rise rapidly and in a very worrying way towards the end of this year. This time last week, we learned that 9. 5 Million People have been furloughed by over 1. 2 million employers. So far, that has cost the treasury £31 billion. Well get an update on those numbers later this morning. What next . Well, we saw the eat out to help 0ut scheme launch yesterday, and, anecdotally, it seems theres been some success. But the big worry is that spend recovery getting people back into shops and restaurants isnt happening fast enough. Last week, footfall in shops rose by 2. 5 thats less than the rise of over 40 the week before, and of course way down, over a third, on what it was the same time last year. Its all about confidence. With these localised lockdowns, the area number with these localised lockdowns, the are a number increasing in some areas, it is inevitable some people areas, it is inevitable some people are frightened of going out. Despite the fact some Office Workers will be encouraged to get back to cities from yesterday, footfall in Central London was only up to present compared to the week before, so this is much lower than the government had hoped. Thank you very much, nina. Nearly 60,000 people should have been getting ready to take part in the great north run for its 40th anniversary next month. It has, however, had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus. Instead, those who have been training are being encouraged to run their own race on the day. Alison freeman reports. They come in their thousands. The elite, the colourful and the downright determined. Every year for the past 39 years. 2020 was to be the past 39 years. 2020 was to be the 40th time the great north run was held. But like so many other major sporting events, the Half Marathon has been cancelled due to the pandemic. It is bad news for the runners, but also the charities who benefit from the sponsorship money. Like grace house in sunderland which provides short breaks for young people with various disabilities. This year we have 25 people who were ready to run for us, estimated that that would mean an income of £8,500 fast. We have worked out, through postponed activities and potentially cancel activities that we have lost about 35,000 across the year. We are very much a local charity, relying on the goodwill of the community to continue to support us local businesses who are obviously facing their own challenges as well, so it isa their own challenges as well, so it is a big hole, yeah. But now, the organisers have come up with a way of keeping the spirit of the great north run alive. The virtual great north run alive. The virtual great north run alive. The virtual great north run will see people completing the distance by themselves on sunday the distance by themselves on sunday the 13th of september. And crucially, they will be continuing to raise money for charity. Crucially, they will be continuing to raise money for charitylj crucially, they will be continuing to raise money for charity. I think it is absolutely fantastic and it is a lifeline charities like Alzheimers Society and the smaller ones as well. The great north run is the regions flagship and raised about £450,000 the regions flagship and raised about £a50,000 for us last year. The London Marathon rate about £4. 5 million last year, and they are looking at £40 million of deficit. So the virtual great north run mate not have quite the same atmosphere, but its benefits will be felt by charities at this difficult time. Alison freeman, bbc news. We will talk to you more about that later as well. Captain sir tom moore, the veteran whos raised millions of pounds for the nhs, met the next generation of soldiers training during his first visit to an Army Foundation college in north yorkshire. He was appointed honorary colonel at the harrogate college, and was shown around before meeting some of the junior recruits. 0ur correspondent luxmy gopal went along. A heros welcome for the honorary colonel, the honour given to captain tom moore, now sir tom, two mark his 100th birthday. You couldnt be in a better place than when you come to yorkshire, but i have been very, very, very fortunate to have this honour given to me. At nearly six times their age, he watched the newest generation of soldiers training. Thejunior soldiers training. Thejunior soldiers training here today will go on to become members of either the infantry, royal artillery, the royal logistic corps, all the royal armoured corps, like sir tom himself did. When he enlisted and served in the Second World War, his Training Experience was very different. When i was recruited, time was very short and we were expected to be turned from civilians into soldiers in a very short time. So we only got basic things, and i think they are very fortu nate basic things, and i think they are very fortunate to have the facilities here. The juniors here feel fortunate to have him as a role model. It has been such a honour to meet somebody this great. I never ever thought i would be able to meet somebody two months in my career in the army this great. It is such an honour. Everyone, it has gone worldwide and countries have been astonished at what he has done and he is absolutely inspirational all around. We treated it like a royal visit because he garners that sort of outlook, and he deserves it as well. Everyone wanted to be involved today, and i hope you have seen as well that the junior soldiers were almost queueing to speak to him and i think his story is resonated. The visit culminated in a presentation or sir tom, who of course insisted on walking the whole route there. He has raised tens of millions of pounds for the nhs by doing laps of his garden, been knighted by the queen and become a household name. Did he ever expect this to happen . Never in a hundred years that i anticipate that. This is the cherry on the cake, really. To come here. A remarkable a few months for a remarkable a few months for a remarkable man who, on entering his second century, still has plenty more to give. Luxmy gopal, bbc news. What a very special day. A real inspiration for those men and women. Absolutely. You are watching bbc breakfast. Still to come, reaching the peak well meet the 3 year old who is thought to be the youngest person to reach the top of a 3,000 metre mountain. Ami am i the only one looking at those images and just. And it is a good time of year, not everyones cup of tea. If you ever get up at four oclock, five oclock in the morning, this is the time to do it. It is six weeks it is like that. Lets get the weather for everyone. Mixed fortunes of weather for tuesday. It looks like low pressure moving in to northern and western parts of uk. Quite a lot of cloud, wind and rain for the very wet for parts of Northern Ireland and western scotland through the day. It will be dry further south and east with more sunshine and it will feel warm as well. This is the culprit, the pressure moving in off the atlantic. Quite a few isobars on the charts, so going to be pretty windy as well. That rain heavy, you can see the brighter colours for Northern Ireland pushing across the irish sea. It is mainly into scotland, and the west that will see the rain really piling up by the end of the day. A windy day to come, 40, maybe 15 miles an hour asks across the north west. A breezy day further south, but the further south you are, a chance of staying dry and feeling warm. 23, 20 four degrees. The pointing further north. Tuesday night that rain slips south into much of Northern England into north wales as well. Further spots of rain for the north, drier across southern areas. Starting to import a milder, more humid hermas from the south west, so temperatures will not fall below 15 degrees on tuesday night. Into wednesday, an area of low pressure and the weather fronts. It will be a breezy day, a lot of cloud and mist and murkiness across northern and Western Areas. Rain pushing into wales and western parts of england. The further south and east you are, although breezy, it will be dry with increasing amounts of sunshine, and we are really getting some warmer air, 25, 20 six degrees is possible. Warmerfurther north. What happens is towards the end of the week these weather fronts become squeezed out and fade away as this area of High Pressure building over the near continent. We really start to tap into some hot air across spain and fronts on a southerly wind, and that will advance north pretty much across the whole country through thursday and friday. The First Students in the uk whose exams were cancelled because of coronavirus will find out today what grades theyve been awarded. Over 130,000 young people in scotland are finding out their grades in highers and nationals. The results will be based on estimates from their teachers. But its thought there could be a rise in the number of appeals. There are fears that britains track and trace systems wont be enough to prevent a second wave of Coronavirus Infections from taking hold after schools re open. Research published in the lancent medicaljournal, suggests that the system isnt finding enough people who have come into contact with the virus. Scientists say their findings should be a wake up call to the government and not a reason to keep classrooms shut. The australian state of victoria has announced harsh new penalties for residents who ignore orders to self isolate because of the coronavirus. Under the new rules, residents are only allowed to shop and exercise within three miles of their home. Theyll be fined more than 10,800 pound. If they ignore orders to self isolate. Meanwhile a night time curfew is in place in the city of melbourne. Books of condolences to the family of the Nobel Peace Prize winner, john hume have been opened in londonderry and belfast. The former sdlp leader, who played a major role in peace talks in Northern Ireland, died yesterday morning at the age of 83. His body will be moved to st eugenes cathedral in derry later, ahead of his funeral tomorrow. Scientists have warned the current test and Trace Programme is not good enough to prevent a second wave of coronavirus when schools reopen in the uk. Lets discuss this and more with gp dr william bird. Good morning to you. I understand you have had yourfirst good morning to you. I understand you have had your first haircut . have had my sonjust you have had your first haircut . have had my son just attacked you have had your first haircut . have had my sonjust attacked me with a pair of scissors and this is my first professional one i have had forfour months. My first professional one i have had for four months. He did do a good job. Let me be the first to say, you look fantastic. Lets move on the serious issues the morning. Test, track and trace. A report about the all important issue, as we go forward , all important issue, as we go forward, when people think about schools particularly in september, of whether or not our contact and trace of whether or not our contact and tra ce syste m of whether or not our contact and trace system is good enough. What do you make of what you read . Initially i thought this is a bit confusing because another study was saying that it because another study was saying thatitis because another study was saying that it is not that bad reopening schools and will not change the virus levels because children are not very good at spreading it when i saw this other study saying that the track and trace need to be fixed didnt make sense but reading it, what they are saying is that the track and trace has to be in such a good place that when schools open they may keep the balance of virus spreading. Although that would not spreading. Although that would not spread it very well, there isjust enough of the virus spread that, if we do not have a system where we can quickly get two people who have it, track and trace and isolate them, then we will keep the levels over and the r rate could increase. They say the first wave would be in december if we only get 70 of people. If we only get 50 , then it is going to go even higher. It is a warning that we have got to get the system really, really well sorted out before the winter otherwise we will see another big surge and they say could be bigger than the first wave. It does not mean that children are bad spreaders, it is that there isa are bad spreaders, it is that there is a tipping point. We are on the edge of the time. There is a little bubbling up of virus. Manchester, a whole list of towns on the edge and openly schools would keep it over so we need to have the system better thanit we need to have the system better than it is at the moment. There are a number of things that all have to work. If you are feeling ill, you need to get a test. Not sure what the evidence is that people are doing that. And then, of course, once you have the test, the Contact Tracing has to kick in and even if you co nta ct tracing has to kick in and even if you contact those people, they then have to agree, not only say they have to agree, not only say they have to agree, they have to self isolate and i do not know what the evidence of what proportion of people generally self isolate. There are two scenarios. People generally self isolate. There are two scenarios. 0ne people generally self isolate. There are two scenarios. One of 70 of people self isolating. And that would mean a peak in february but if only 50 self isolate it would get a steeper peak in december and then of course the test and the tests are still providing false negatives. It is up to about 20 could be false negatives so if you do not push the swa b negatives so if you do not push the swab far enough into the throat it does not pick up the virus. Lots of kind of uncertainties at the moment and we have to get practised in getting those right. A number of stories and relation to paracetamol and the people who have not seen this, nice advices gps like yourself on what medicine to prescribe and they have been telling doctors not to prescribe drugs including paracetamol to millions of chronic pain sufferers because that could do more harm than good. What do you make of that . I have been a gp for a very long time and when i first started, we used to give medication ofa started, we used to give medication of a strong opiate or paracetamol and then we were told not to give that because people are getting addicted to it and now the actual paracetamol which would tell eve ryo ne paracetamol which would tell everyone is completely safe, which it is in short doses, but if you ta ke it is in short doses, but if you take it in months and months of chronic pain, they say it is not effective and it may be doing more harm than good. Hope you preference can cause problems as well ibuforen. If you take paracetamol for some pain or some short term matter, it is fine. But long term is a different story. For chronic pain you need things like acupuncture, antidepressants, exercise. It is open to consultation until august 14 you can writing to nice and you have a couple of weeks to put your views forward but it is notjust the acute pain, it is the chronic pain, the month and months and that is what they are talking about. Of course, we know more people have been encouraged to go back to work, various bits of normality coming back. Are you able to do the normal medical procedures and thinks you are doing before at your practice . We have been struggling. It was very odd, right at the beginning we had loads of patient coming in when covered back first started covid 19 first started. And then all the patient went. All these programmes people thought they had suddenly disappeared but we are now gradually getting back to normality but the world has changed completely and we will never have as many face to face consultations ever again edit primary care. A lot of doctors think it is a terrible thing, particularly the older ones like me. Younger once saying it is good. A lot of patients have accepted it. Ithink good. A lot of patients have accepted it. I think people, when they come and see us in the after hours, they are not so worried anymore. 0lder hours, they are not so worried anymore. Older people are still a bit cautious. People who are younger do not mind so much but we are finding this face to face consultation, we are notjust going to have as many and i am slightly sad about that because when you see a patient face to face you pick up all sorts of actions, how they walking, little comments, somehow that disappears when you do not have that disappears when you do not have that face to face consultation but i am afraid and in some ways it is good but in some ways it is a bit of a shame. We are enjoying zoom consultations with you. Nice to see you again. Good to see you. You get a real sense of change. We are looking at an important game . And a few nerves this morning for those players competing in the championship play off final later. Expect plenty of drama to come. Notjust because of the huge sums on offerfor the winner and the promise of premier League Football next season, testing yourself against the worlds best, but the fact that just 5. 5 miles separate west london rivals brentford and fulham at wembley. So as you can imagine, a huge amount at stake. Heres patrick gearey. We are looking forward to what is billed as the richest game in foot ball billed as the richest game in football and at stake place in premier league. The golden light of the premier league is only a game away. Playing for the star price, two neighbours who have been staring at each other over the thames river for many years. Little between fulham and bradford. It is a derby now. Two teams who would have done fa nta stically now. Two teams who would have done fantastically well this year separated by goal difference in the leg. The fact now that we are even and playing in the final, trying to ta ke and playing in the final, trying to take the advantage. The winning club will make hundred fulham were relegated last season. Ellie stu m bles have relegated last season. Ellie stumbles have given way to great strides. Early stumbles. The opposition have not played here before. The last game at griffin park and they are moving to a new field so what time to be promoted. What is interesting, we have all bought tickets for the new stadium. They were clever enough to put the price up but we were happily glad to pay the extra money. It is highly significant because bradford are our local rivals, significant because bradford are our local rivals, brentford. Right now they are our equals. It will be an empty stadium. Forfans now they are our equals. It will be an empty stadium. For fans this will bea an empty stadium. For fans this will be a night to scream at a screen. 0ne match from the Scottish Premier League to tell you about ross county beat motherwell1 0 with ross stewart the scorer. Both men have denied any wrongdoing. Infantino will remain in his role during the legal proceedings. Frankly, there is something a little bit grotesque and unfair about all this because we are 100 confident that they will never be a criminal charge, far less a criminal conviction, against the fifa president. Now, look whos back bowling, which could serve as a timely boost for england ahead of their opening test with pakistan. Its ben stokes back in the nets, so often the match winner. He only played as a specialist batsmen in the third test win over west indies because of an injury, but appears he could be back firing on all fronts. Later, england play ireland in theirfinal0di. And finally, we know hes good, we know hes fast. Thats why they call him the rocket. But Ronnie O Sullivan showed us just how fast yesterday as he set the record for the fastest match at the world championship. He beat Thepchaiya Un Nooh 10 frames to 1 in a time of one hour, 48 minutes. That averages out at about 14 seconds per shot, beating the previous record by 41 minutes. His next opponent, ding junui, might want to work n some delaying tactics when the rocket is playing like that, there is no stopping the guy. Faulting second shot hes not hanging about. He is so fast and the guy he was playing is also very fast. He wastes no time. We know there are no grounds washing and initially ronnie was unsure about that. But the fact that there are no crowds, i think it has taken the pressure off his shoulders and clearly he is enjoying it. Sometimes with the weight of expectation, he is feeling it more. I think he is able to go about his business quietly and in devastating fashion and it seems to be playing into his hands. Play saying this could be his year once again. See you later on. More the students are set to get the grades today. A handful of them are ata grades today. A handful of them are at a school in glasgow for us is morning, preparing to get their results. This is a year like no other for these students. Such a difficult time for them. Today is the day they find out where it has panned out. Yes, it has been an extraordinary year when it comes to the education system. Good morning from Holyrood Secondary School on the south side of glasgow, and a handful of stu d e nts of glasgow, and a handful of students have joined us of glasgow, and a handful of students havejoined us here this morning. Some of them tell me they have had very little sleep overnight, those nerves kicking in. With me is uma. If anyone said there we re with me is uma. If anyone said there were no exams this year, what would you say . Definitely, yes, i would love that what would the main subjects be . You were doing the big exams here in scotland. Important ones for you this year . Higher mathematics and other important ones. They are the ones i need to get good results for former university offer. How are you feeling about it all . A big nervous to be honest. But i am thinking we all did to be honest. But i am thinking we alldid our to be honest. But i am thinking we all did our best and we are just waiting for our results. You really did do your best in extraordinary circumstances. Peter is here with month and damp. Thank you for joining us this morning. It is such a big year. How did you do in your prelims . Did you go full throttle . Yes, but i think everyone else is quite right, because not everyone did so it is a worry that they didnt do the same prelims. You feel nervous about it . Yes, but quietly confident because i am hoping for the best. You are in fifth year as well. This is a big yearfor you. Are you hoping to go to university coming up more than a year after . Hoping to go to university. To do dentistry. We need high grades for that. It is notjust the students, but it is the parents who have a nerve racking night. How are you feeling . It is such a tough year for the kids. It has been hard. He worked before hand the kids. It has been hard. He worked beforehand so hopefully it will have paid off for him. Is he a study . I think he took the advice and put the effort in earlier in the year so hopefully that will benefit him now. Fingers crossed. You are in fourth year, so that would have been the first year you that your exams. You havent had a chance to do them. How would you describe year to anyone who has not been going through the schooling system . First it was a relief because i was very nervous doing them, but i have not got the experience for hire, so bit nervous. They are the big ones in scotland when it comes to it. Did you do 0k . Yes. Good. We are all socially distanced today, keeping a distance from the kids. You wont have to when you go to school from each other, but you have to keep your distance where possible. How did you do in your prelims . your distance where possible. How did you do in your prelims . I did 0k. Spanish let me down. Did you expect document i was inspecting spanish to go a bit bad because i was focusing on the subjects that i needed to move forward. Fingers crossed your results go well in all the subjects and you get a chance to make up the spanish. A quick word with the head teacher. It is a tough job for the teachers. It has been a challenging time this year. Initially for teachers, the worry was, what about young people who perhaps underperformed in prelims . There was a relief when we got the advice about the estimates you put in based on the performance of all the young people are notjust in based on the performance of all the young people are not just the prelim examination. I think it is that as a teacher is up and down the country have worked really hard to get the best out of their children. You must be so proud of them. So proud of them. So proud of all of the effort they put in an the resilience they have built throughout this time of lockdown. How are you feeling . You said to me had a sleepless night. How important is this yearfor had a sleepless night. How important is this year for you and the results . Is this year for you and the results . Really important. If dont get maths this year, and then move on to plan b. I have to figure out what plan b is first. Did you do 0k in your prelims and your coursework . I didnt do as great as i hope. Coursework . I didnt do as great as ihope. I coursework . I didnt do as great as i hope. I usually do better in my exams and what i do in the prelims. That is tough. There are a lot of people like you, the prelims are the rehearsal. How are you feeling, dad . Nervous, yeah. But at the same time, quietly confident. She is a lot better at school than i was. She has put the work in. That is all you can ask when it has been a year like this, which no one could have predicted. Thank you very much for that. We will just predicted. Thank you very much for that. We willjust rearrange ourselves, keep our distance from everyone. Those results start coming in around eight oclock, a mixture of methods. Some will receive them via e mail, some by text, some paper versions through the post and then of course any appeals process, they will be free this year because of this moderating system by the sqa here in scotland where they have tried to even out the grades, but there are some who might have been disadvantaged by the fact that they would have held off of their efforts until the exams themselves. The nervousness is palpable, pass on our good luck to everybody there. Thank you so much. Such a confusing time. Plan b . She doesnt know what plan b is. Such a confusing time. Plan b . She doesnt know what plan b ism such a confusing time. Plan b . She doesnt know what plan b is. It is worth pointing out, every time we do this, scotland are the first of their generation who are getting their generation who are getting their results in this way. Across their results in this way. Across the uk, it is happening at different times. They are the first. They are the ones we will watch as it unfolds. The estimated grades. We will see. Catching up with them a little later. For those getting their results in scotland today, the bbc bitesize website has lots of advice and support resources. You can find it on the website at bbc. Co. Uk bitesize. Six months have passed since we brought together doddie weir, rob burrow and Stephen Darby. The three sportsmen are are all living with Motor Neurone Disease, an illness with no cure. Coronavirus has come with its extra challenges, but recently, doddie made a surprise visit to see rob. It was theyd met in person since february. Sally has more. Brought together in the most difficult circumstances, there is a friendship that provides support and strength. I am not giving in. Until my last breath. Too many reasons to live. Three sportsmen, one debilitating condition. They spoke together for the first time earlier this year. The Life Expectancy is between one and three years. I am still living, still smiling. He showed me the path i needed to go down, the productivity, the banter. The spread of covid 19 has brought a new set of risks for these men who wa nt to new set of risks for these men who want to make the most of every single day. It has been challenging. We stay away from that. In june, we caught up with rob, dottie and Stephen Darby to see how they were coping with life in lockdown. Ican hear i can hear that it is difficult for you to talk, but you feel 0k . Recently, dottie, who turned 50 last month, made a private visit to rob at his home in yorkshire. Come to see how you are getting on. As ever, the former Scotland International knows just what to say in an Important Team talk. Dont let mnd win. Are you still eating well . Yeah. Of course, these men didnt ever play together, but they say they are teammates now. I tell you what, surprise visits go during pandemics, that is one of the best. Lovely to see them back together, actually. There have been many and varied tributes to the nhs and its staff during the last few months of the coronavirus pandemic. One of the lads did it. You cant get lost because there are questions about these and if you get them right, you go down the right path. We will speak to you a little later. These sunflowers are raising thousands of pounds a day for the nhs. They are all in bloom, they wont last forever, so they will have a busy time here at the app sunflower world over the next couple of weeks. I know sunflowers are tall, but they are extremely tall. Good weather for sunflowers. How is it looking . Very good weather for su nflowers. It looking . Very good weather for sunflowers. It might be a bit too hot for them by friday. A good morning to all. Sunshine across eastern areas at the moment to start your tuesday. But compared with yesterday, a lot more cloud around and it is going to start to turn increasingly wet and windy across the northern and Western Areas if it hasnt already done so. Lets take a look at what is happening from space from the point of view of the weather chart. High pressure down the south east, low pressure to north and west. Winds will be quite strong today and here is where the rain has been coming. A wet start in ireland, rain across southern and western scotland into the fringes of north west england and north and west wales. The rain across Northern England and parts of wales will turn light and patchy through the morning. That heavy and relentless rain in the highlands. Some more heavy rain back later where we will see strong to gale force winds. A windy day across the board. Winds light as a further south and east you are. Some spells of hazy sunshine throughout tuesday and a little milder than yesterday, temperatures up to 23 degrees. With that wind and rain it will feel cool across parts of scotland and Northern Ireland at times. Could see some minorflooding Northern Ireland at times. Could see some minor flooding across the Southern Highlands with that rain persisting throughout. Further bursts into tonight. To the south, some mild hour, temperature is not dropping below 15 or 16 degrees after a cool few nights. Further north, a bit fresher toward scotland. A mild start to tomorrow. The weather fronts on the chart on wednesday with a breeze blowing, particularly across england and wales. Wednesday night into thursday, not going to be as much rain around, quite a bit of cloud to begin thursday with one or two showers here and there. That will be possible throughout thursday. The vast majority will be dry, increasing amounts of sunshine breaking through the clouds, and on thursday, jarrett is approaching 30 degrees across the south east of england. A warmer day for scotland and Northern Ireland. The wheel peak heat will come through friday and saturday. A warning that the uks test and trace system isnt good enough to prevent a second wave of coronavirus cases, when schools across the uk reopen energy giant bp is expected to announce a sharp fall in profits in the next few minutes as the pandemic continues to drive down oil prices. The queen leads the tributes to the volunteers of the British Red Cross, as it celebrates its 150th anniversary its tuesday 4th august. Our top story the First Students in the uk to get their grades after exams were cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic will find out their results today. More than 130000 school and College Leavers in scotland will hear this morning how theyve done in their nationals and highers. The results will be based on estimates which were submitted by their teachers. But its thought there could be a rise in the number of appeals. Alexandra mackenzie reports. For aiden, like many others, it is an uncertain and anxious time it is results day but students receiving their grades did not actually sit the exams. Last year, it was down to me and what id done in the exams ultimately. Now, its not down to me, i dont even have a rough, rough gauge of how ive done in each subject, and it is more worrying now. Since march, most classrooms have been empty, playground fell silent. And this announcement was made in the scottish parliament. In the midst of two world wars, the exams went ahead. It is a measure of the gravity of the challenge we now face that i must today announce the exams will not go ahead this year. Todays grades for national 5, higher and advanced higher qualifications are based on estimates by teacher, qualifications are based on estimates by teachers, taking into account prelim results and coursework. The estimated grades were then moderated by the scottish qualifications authority. The sqe had to ensure a fair process for candidates as well as maintain the credibility of the system, as young people look towards further study and an increasingly challenging job market. But it is feared some students could be at a disadvantage, especially those who rely on cramming at the 11th hour. The problem is, this year, is that the works that they would have done in the two or three months done before the exams is not available to the school to use in an appeal, because the schools were closed between march and may, when exams would take place so these students will not be able to use their last minute work as the basis for an appeal against a low grade this year, unlike in previous years. For those unhappy with any grades, the appeals process is free this year and, whatever their results, the class of 2020 has certainly made history. Alexandra mackenzie, bbc news. Scientists are warning that the uks Contact Tracing system isnt good enough to prevent a second wave of covid 19 isnt good enough to prevent a second wave of covid 19 infections, when all pupils are back at School Across the uk in september. In a study, published today in the medical journal, the lancet, they say their findings should be a wake up call to the government, and not an excuse to keep classrooms shut. Lets get some reaction from our Political Correspondent nick eardley. Morning, nick, how much of an issue has this been for the government . I think the government would say that they built the system up from nowhere and a few months ago there was no track and trace in place. We had questions before about how well it is operating in this report is gets to a number of them. As things stand, we are not getting in touch with another people who have shown symptoms to make sure all the contacts symptoms to make sure all the co nta cts a re symptoms to make sure all the contacts are traced and in essence it is saying, when you start to open up it is saying, when you start to open up society more broadly, when you put schools back into place in september, in england anyway, the risk or potential of the virus coming back if the trace system is not working, the risk is much greater. The government has brought these new tests which can give you a result in 90 minutes and that is potentially one solution to this but a big question remaining is we tracing enough of those people and there have been a few problems with that process. Ministers have come under a lot of pressure over it quite frankly. 0n the schools point, it has become an important test for the government and they are determined to make sure all pupils go back in september. Similar problems in scotland and Northern Ireland as well. I find it hard to see how the government could go back on that promise but it is all part of the big balance we have and we know the scientists think we are reaching the limit of how much we can open up society and keep the virus under control and i suppose the question now is, is there enough infrastructure in place for it to be done safely. Thank you very much indeed. President donald trump says the pandemic in the United States is receding. The country still has by far the largest number of reported covid 19 infections and deaths in the world. The president said the us was handling the outbreak as well as any other country. Were beginning to see evidence of significant progress. Nationwide, the number of positive cases has declined by nearly 6 from the week before and the positive test rate is also dropped from 8. 7 to 8 over that same period of sign. An encouraging sign. Very encouraging i have to add that the virus is receding. The australian state of victoria has announced harsh new penalties for residents who ignore orders to self isolate. Theyll be given a fine of over £2,500 if theyre caught, with repeat offenders facing penalties of up to 10,000. Lets speak now to our australia correspondent phil mercer. We know those restrictions and cu rfew we know those restrictions and curfew in place are very stringent and now we are hearing about how they might be enforced. and now we are hearing about how they might be enforced. I think the authorities in victoria are losing patient with those people breaking them. Some people flouting the regulations. The state please commissioner also said on a number of occasions they have had to smash windows of cars at checkpoint to drag people out for failing to provide names and addresses. The army has also been visiting several thousand people who have several hundred people who have tested positive and has been in contact and they found 800 people were not home. Several thousand people. Another grim day in victoria, more than 550 new cases and 11 new deaths. Victoria is at the epicentre of australias Coronavirus Crisis and a Strict Lockdown for six weeks for the people of melbourne will be very tough and now the police will be monitoring everyones movement in order to make sure as much compliance is possible to try and drive down that Community Transmission which is causing so much concern. Thank you. The former king of spain, juan carlos, has abruptly left the country, weeks after he was linked to an investigation into alleged corruption. In a letter to his son, felipe, who replaced him as king six years ago, juan carlos said he would best serve the spanish people by living abroad. Injune, Spains Supreme Court opened an investigation into his alleged involvement in a high speed rail contract in saudi arabia. You are up to date with the latest news. Job losses continued to mount as industry struggle. Hays travel is the latest in a string of Major Companies to announce nearly 900 redundancies in the last week. In a moment, well speak to the companys owners. First, lets take a look at how they got to this point. For decades, spain has been a go to destination for sun loving brits last week a sudden change of advice from the government brought disappointing for anyone hoping for a spanish getaway anytime soon. The new rules mean an automatic two week isolation for those returning from the spanish mainland or its islands. For the largest independent travel agents in the uk, hays travel, it has spelt disaster. The owners say they are devastated but say they have no choice but to makejob they are devastated but say they have no choice but to make job cuts and almost 900 are now at risk. Last 0ctober, hays travel road to the rescue when it announced it would save thousands ofjobs by taking over thomas cook. I cant believe it, iam over thomas cook. I cant believe it, i am crying. However now they are being forced to make cuts themselves. These are the most significant redundancies and hays travel now joins significant redundancies and hays travel nowjoins a number of companies struggling to cope with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. We can speak now to irene and john hayes. Thank you for your time. Can you go through the basics for us. Youre talking about 878 employers who are at risk of redundancy. Can you explain that to me . The situation is that yesterday at 2 15 p. M. , john andi that yesterday at 2 15 p. M. , john and i announced to two different groups of our stuff that we would be putting them on notice of redundancy and day Consultation Programme and the two cohorts are trainees and these are people who we employed after we acquired the thomas cook shops because it could not employ enough thomas cook stuff at the time and they are still in training and it has been extended over the lockdown. That is a number of 534. And the second group is Foreign Exchange consoles. We are not selling enough Foreign Exchange through the lockdown so they also will be up for consultation. through the lockdown so they also will be up for consultation. I know there is terminology around this but effectively these jobs will go. Is that what will happen . I know it is going through a Consultation Programme but these numbers are correct . In the case of Foreign Exchange, we need to go through a due process and we believe we can save a small number of those and obviously we keep an open mind through the consultation process but this is serious. As you look forward , this is serious. As you look forward, this is a significant proportion. You have 4500 staff in all. Do you think this will be the end of it, given the dire situation the travel industry is in . Hopefully, for us, we have a plan and we need to make this very unfortunate decision right now but it is very, very tough for the travel industry throughout the world and the uk and everyone, airlines, travel agents, everyone is in distress at the moment im afraid. understand youre making specific reference in the reasoning to the decisions made by the government in connection to travel to spain. Can you just explain exactly what the cause and effect was . At 8pm a week on saturday, the government announced that from midnight there would be no travel to mainland spain and subsequently on monday it extended to the islands. And then everyone out there had to self isolate for 14 days when they came home. We totally understand the governments decision in barcelona, catalonia, northeast spain, there is definitely an outbreak there and the governments decision is totally the right one. No qualms with that. Where the problem arises is in the re st of where the problem arises is in the rest of spain where the right low outbreaks of the disease. The islands, majorca, tenerife et cetera and the germans right now, as we speak will be on the way to these places and obviously there will be no brits and when the germans come home they will not have to go into quarantine while the brits currently finishing their holidays will have to go into quarantine. So, really, the travel industry in general has written a letter, 40 odd Major Companies, airlines, airports, major tourism operators to say to the Prime Minister why is it the Costa Del Sol safe for germans but not for britain . Can you directly relate the people you have had to lay off to what you consider to be a mistake in the government decision . consider to be a mistake in the government decision . I think there is clear evidence that just before a week ago last saturday, the figures we re week ago last saturday, the figures were coming back. They were coming back steadily. We were really pleased with the return of new bookings, and not just pleased with the return of new bookings, and notjust new bookings for 2021 where we are actually performing quite strongly at the moment, but we were seeing new bookings steadily coming in for summer2020, bookings steadily coming in for summer 2020, which would have helped re cover summer 2020, which would have helped recover the position in relation to staffing. As you can imagine in the earlier months of lockdown we were in negative revenue position, and we chose to bring our staff back from furlough very, very early. We brought 3000 people back to look after our customers. And we therefore had to pay them as a company. We have remained in negative revenue until about six weeks ago, and six weeks ago, the bookings started to come back, and after we passed saturday, it was like turning off a tap. Can ijust ask, the reality is the government has said, and from what i am hearing, you understand that some of these decisions that have been made, they have said that as and when it is necessary, they will sometimes immediately bring in a ban on a country if they see the figures that they dont want to see. That will happen. It is going to happen to other countries as well going forward. We dont know when we dont know how. If that is the case, do you think more Companies Like yours or, indeed, you yourselves may yet need to make more people redundant . Is there something inevitable about that given the uncertainty of the situation we are in . No, i think the government has also said that they will change their view and change their advice with the fco, if they are presented with sufficient evidence. We believe at the moment a more nuanced approach would be an appropriate one. The canaries have very low infection rates and we believe that the government could change that and we could still re cover change that and we could still recover the summary. John, irene, thank you very much for talking us through those decisions you are making now. They are the owners of hays travel, and as they say, they have Just Announced just under 878 employees now at risk of redundancy, that notice of redundancy has gone out. Another of those industries really struggling. Yes, they talked about the whole industry being in distress. In the last two minutes, bp has announced it has lost more than five billion pounds. Nina has details on that. Good morning. Those are the losses for the three months till the end ofjune. It is a big loss. We can hardly be surprised, can we . We are driving less, doing less, so demand for oil has plummeted in the same three months of last year bp made £2 billion. But this morning, as louisejust said, losing more than £5 billion. What is significant this morning is they have halved their dividends. That is the earnings paid out to shareholders and, traditionally, bp dividends have been some of the most generous on the market. So a lot of Pension Funds and saving schemes stocks shares and isas are invested in bp. When they give less back to their shareholders, that can mean less given back to Pension Fund Managers and eventually to us as savers. And this forms part of a wider picture. Shell said last week theyre cutting their dividends for the First Time Since the Second World War. In all, the expectation is that dividends are set to half this year. Halve. It is more bad news for people who have pensions and savings. And we will find out later this week about what the bank of england plans to do with Interest Rates, which are virtually nothing the moment. People hoping to accrue interest, not a good time for them. Thank you very much. For several weeks now, its been compulsory to wear a Face Covering on public transport across the uk. But new figures show that 1 in 10 passengers arent following the rules. Well speak with transport for london shortly. But first, lets look at whats happening in the capital. The latest figures show that more than 53,000 passengers on buses in london were stopped without a Face Covering by officials. Almost 5,000 were asked to leave a bus or prevented from boarding. And 244 travellers had been given penalty notices of £100 for not wearing a Face Covering. Lets speak now with Siwan Hayward whos director for compliance and policing at transport for london. Good morning to you. Thank you for joining us. How many people are actually obeying the rules . We have actually obeying the rules . We have actually seen really high levels of compliance in london. Face coverings became mandatory on public transport in midjune and became mandatory on public transport in mid june and for the first couple of weeks we ran a really major Advertising Campaign explaining to everybody the benefits of wearing Face Coverings, educating people that it means covering the nose and mouth, and we had officers out and start out across the network, alongside the police, engaging in thousands and thousands of thousands of passengers, and we found people wa nt of passengers, and we found people want to do the right thing, they wa nt want to do the right thing, they want to do the right thing, they want to protect their own health and health of others. We have seen about 90 compliance, 95 compliance during the peak time on our tube trains and bus networks. There has been some dips in that level during the course and there we have stepped up the course and there we have stepped up our activity to actually start nate taking action against people who are not complying on the bus network and brands network and public transport. Tell us about the practicalities, when somebody is not wearing a Face Covering, what happens . We have offices deployed to hot spots across the network where we have had reports of passengers and staff that they were problems. Those officers have the powers, they stop people and the vast majority of cases, those 53,000 cases where we have stopped someone for not wearing a Face Covering, that individual has a Face Covering, that individual has a Face Covering, that individual has a Face Covering. They were just rushing and didnt get it on in time. The vast majority of those people will put a Face Covering on and get on the transport. But we know there is a small minority refusing to comply, so our officers are getting on buses and vehicles and they will inject people who are ona and they will inject people who are on a vehicle not wearing a Face Covering. They will find the individual. The fine is £100, reduced to 50 if you pay within14 days. But if you dont pay the fine, we can take you to court and prosecute and the courts can find you up to £1000. For the small minority of people not complying, there are serious consequences. Some people, who for medical reasons, cant wear Face Coverings. What happens with them . Cant wear Face Coverings. What happens with them . That is right. We estimate around one in 20 people will have an exemption for health, medical reasons, disability reasons, and often, that is not yes to other passengers. We really do say to other passengers, dont challenge someone for not wearing a Face Covering. They might have a very good legitimate reason also people who are exempt can get a card from transport for london and our office rs transport for london and our officers will engage with individual if they have a legitimate exemption, they are allowed to travel. Thank you for your time. The cost of rural crime is at its highest level for eight years according to the Farm Insurance Company nfu mutual. 0rganised criminal gangs are targeting high value tractors, quad bikes and livestock. 0ur correspondent phil mackie is at a farm in worcestershire. Good morning to you. Good morning to you. Good morning. We are in worcestershire and it is typical of many farms across the country. It is quite vulnerable to these organised criminal gangs desperate for high value agricultural machinery. That has gone up by 20 in the last year. You can see some of the sheep, and Livestock Theft have gone up as well. These could easily come up that road and quite quickly make off with livestock and probably go unnoticed. That has happened quite recently with slaughtered sheep found in warsaw. We are talking about the cost to farmers and the industry. Actually there is a mental issue as well, because it is your business but you live here and it must be quite worrying knowing criminals are out there. Definitely. He felt quite vulnerable when it first happened. How can you protect things in the field . Sheep are across nine fields so how can we keep them safe . It is our home. We work outside at all times and you dont know who is around. Thank you very much. We will talk to you much greater detail in an hour. We have the Police Coming to talk about those problems. The big issue is organised criminal gangs who are either stealing the sheep and even slaughtering them in the fields and selling them on the black market, but also criminal gangs selling valuable equipment to Eastern Europe where it can fetch a big price. Back to you for now, but we will see you in an hourorso. To you for now, but we will see you in an hour or so. Really interesting hearing about that. You are watching bbc breakfast. Still to come, reaching the peak well meet the 3 year old who is thought to be the youngest person to reach the top of a 3,000 metre mountain. Well be discussing that shortly and bringing you the latest news. Shall we catch up on the weather . I think it will be hot. Eventually. A little bit on the cool side this morning. Good morning to all, but our weather watcher says he loves his early start. A beautiful serene start here in hertfordshire. A bit of mist on the lake as well. Com pletely of mist on the lake as well. Completely different story to the north and west, depicted quite nicely from this one in the west of scotland. Grey and raining. We will see raining cloud today. An area of low pressure moving in. Think aloud, outbreaks of rain. I am dry weather to the south. The windier it can be. The moment rain in Northern Ireland over the last two hours can see that spread into scotland, north west england and North West Wales at the moment. It will come and go through the morning and across these areas, training lighter unpatched year later. Easing off later this morning and then starting to get heavier again as you go into the afternoon. The rain remains relentless in some parts. Some minorflooding later in the day. Wind is picking up, touching gale force at times in the north and west. The further south and east, you stay dry with hazy sunshine and a little warmer than yesterday, 23. 16 or 17 across part of scotland. This evening and overnight, the heaviest rain eases off in scotland. There will be some bursts of rain across Northern England, north wales at times, staying damp in Northern Ireland as well. 16, 17 degrees under the rain. Some pretty warm air amongst these weather systems with us. Another one still with us on wednesday so we start with some wet weather in Northern England and Northern Ireland. After brightening up for a time, rain will spread erratically into the western half of england and southern scotland through the afternoon. Still some sunshine to the south and east where we see temperatures climb even further into the mid and high 20s for some as we see out wednesday. Even further north, temperatures up a little bit compared with what we see this afternoon. Into thursday, weather fronts just slowly decay away, and nothing more than cloud and a few showers away on thursday. Even after the cloud with a few showers, increased amount of sunshine as the womens develop on thursday. That will start to drag an even warmer weather. Could be at 30 degrees by the time we get to thursday afternoon and damages into the 20s a bit further north as well. The real heat comes on friday where we could see temperatures peaked at 35 celsius in the south east corner, again into the 30s as far north of yorkshire. A little more cloud here but still pleasant enough and sunny moments. The next update in half an hour. Hello, this is breakfast with Louise Minchin and charlie stayt. The First Student in the uk whose exams were cancellable find out today what grades they were awarded. Results will be based on estimates from their teachers. It is thought they could be a rise in the number of appeals. Fears that britain track and trace system will not be enough to prevent a second wave of coronavirus after schools reopen. Research suggests the system is not finding enough people who have come into co nta ct finding enough people who have come into contact with the virus. Scientists say it is a wake up call to the government not a reason to keep schools shut. Harsh new penalties for residents to ignore orders to self isolate because of covid 19 in victoria, australia. Repeat offenders face charges of up to £10,000. A nighttime curfew is in place in the city of melbourne. The books of condolences to the family ofjohn hume have been opened in londonderry and belfast. He played a major role in peace talks in Northern Ireland. He died yesterday morning at the age of 83. He will his body will be moved to derry ahead of his funeral. Fears that a second wave of coronavirus cannot be prevented if track and trace is not improved. The Current System hasnt about 50 coverage, is that enough . Simon clarke is the minister for regional growth and local government, and joins us from middlesbrough. It underpins our ability to return to normality and we are reaching over 80 of people who test positive for coronavirus and contacting 70 and over. They are then advised to self isolate, 184,000 people who could otherwise be spreading this disease. We have achieved quite remarkable. We can now test more people than even countries like germany who are held up as a Gold Standard for a very long time. We will get up to 500,000 people a day by the end of october. That is absolutely something that we will prioritise. The report suggests it works out at a coverage of 50 . At just 50 . On our figure it is a higher than that and it is something which in the end, it is all our responsibility to help support. We are all of us need to actually follow the instructions we are given. That is imperative. We while we continued to make sure that system is properly resourced. £300 million behind test and trays. Brilliant work establishing the system. Clearly, it is an ongoing process. You are building a new infrastructure. But we are confident it is working and it will continue to improve and allow us to open schools safely in the autumn. Blackburn, they are battling a major outbreak and they are saying only 5296 outbreak and they are saying only 52 of all close contacts are reached and that is in a place where there is an outbreak. We continue to work closely with the authorities in blackburn and i have spoken myself to the local mp and Council Leader and officials from the department of health continued to do likewise. It is still maturing, this system, but we are confident it is helping to ta ke we are confident it is helping to take people who may have been exposed to coronavirus and make sure they are self isolating. Every person that this system reaches and follows the gardens is helping to protect Wider Society and we want that to increase but it is a system, lest we forget, did not existjust a few weeks ago. How do you know they are self isolating . Few weeks ago. How do you know they are selfisolating . We continued to work very closely with the community and, in the end, this rests on a large degree of community compliance. There is simply no way short of turning our country into a police state that we could do otherwise. We have to rely, as we have done, upon the good service and cooperation of the public. People have listened. That is why we have made the progress we have. That is the nature of a free society. Is it checked out all the people ourselves isolating . Is it checked at all. 0fficials isolating . Is it checked at all. Officials from Public Health england conduct random checks but like all systems, it rests on people complying with rules which are for the wider publics protection. I cannot see how it could be different ina cannot see how it could be different in a society like ours. You have mentioned this is a system still maturing. Scientists in the lancet are saying without an effective test and trace an isolation strategy could result in a second wave of coronavirus cluster size of the first. You are talking about it maturing, when will it be ready . We are now making sure that 184,000 people who would otherwise have been out there in society, potentially posing a risk to others, have had advised to self isolate and that is massive progress. We have reached 80 of people who tested positive over three quarters of their close contacts. Over three quarters of their close co nta cts. We over three quarters of their close contacts. We should reflect on the fa ct contacts. We should reflect on the fact that is genuinely a massive step forward compared to a few weeks ago. We continue to make sure this is resourced and learn the lessons. So we can effectively reach those people we currently struggle to. There is always more to learn about best time of day to call these people, the potentialfor physical follow up if you cannot reach them by phone. If this is not something we have had to do before. The lancet have a right to say this matters but do not underestimate what we have achieved. You mentioned schools, what is going on in Greater Manchester in the last few days, if it were to be the situation in september, would schools in Greater Manchester be opening . September, would schools in Greater Manchester be opening 7 september, would schools in Greater Manchester be opening . I cannot work on the basis of a hypothetical scenario but it is our absolute determination that schools should reopen in full across the country in september. We would need to take a look at the circumstances in any Given Community at that point but the very clear message the government wants to enforce and which i know heads and Teachers Want to reinforce as well is that we should get children back to school this autumn. It is safe for them to do so. I have seen the good work that schools have done to make this possible. We cannot underestimate the damage it would do if we do not enable children to resume their education. Might then they have to be trade off in other areas . Education. Might then they have to be tradeoff in other areas . This is not something we are willing to trade. We are comfortable in striking an appropriate balance. We had to slightly adjust the rate of unlocking on the weekend and that is a lwa ys unlocking on the weekend and that is always something we keep under review because the situation is fast changing and we are dealing with data that comes to us in real time but our broad commitment is continued to reopen the economy and our plan has made great progress, we managed to get back to greater normality than a few weeks ago and we know there will be absent down on road and we saw that last week. No one wanted to have to impose the regional measures in west yorkshire, Greater Manchester but it is by those interventions that we continue the broad path the country is on and which will ultimately get us out of this very difficult situation. With regards to regional measures, citi ca rd regards to regional measures, citi card accuser Prime Minister of writing roughshod with local leaders by excluding them. Are they excluded or included . Riding. By excluding them. Are they excluded or included . Riding. They are included. I speak to sayed card myself but there are many other points of contact between elected local leaders and central government. We want them to be involved but there is an element of politics i am afraid and i do not think it is helpful or constructive. It is simply not my experience that we are not working closely with locally elected leaders, in fact, we area pains locally elected leaders, in fact, we are a pains to do so stop sometimes, those relationships are easier than others and i would say that it is vital we worked together in a common cause. Can i talk you also about the travel industry. We spoke today to hayes travel and they are talking about a possible 900 job losses. They say what happened in spain was like turning off the tap. If there we re like turning off the tap. If there were other countries that needed quarantines on were other countries that needed quara ntines on return . Were other countries that needed quarantines on return . If the data suggests it is necessary then we would do that. We make no apology. It is highly undesirable that we find ourselves in this world but we took that decision about spain because the data was deteriorating. If you travel abroad, if there is any risk, it might be necessary to quarantine on your return. Were not saying dont travel but we are saying dont travel but we are saying that is a possible scenario. We wa nt saying that is a possible scenario. We want people to be able to go abroad, we do not very much want to impose any restrictions in the end our primary responsibilities Public Health in the uk. What about those calls for a nuanced approach. They talk about different regions having different incidents of coronavirus. We always review our options. Again, the government acts on the advice we received from our Scientific Community and our bestjudgement to what is the most effective way to minimise the risk to the public. There will be internal transfers within a country like spain recognising that there will be differentiation between different regions but our advice is clear, at the moment travel to the spanish mainland or island is not something we can endorse. Simon clarke, thank you for your time here on breakfast. Lots of changes in the sport. But some things dont change. There are big matches every once in a while and theres 90 minutes of football, the future of the club at stake, all those things still stand. They do indeed and when it comes to championship play offs it is the most lucrative match in football the championship play off final securing the winners a place in the premier league. And there rerally isnt much to split the two teams. Just 5. 5 miles separate west london rivals brentford and fulham, and they finished level on points at the end of the championship season. Unlike their opponents fulham, brentford have never played in the premier league. They have, though, built a brand new stadium here it is. Will they be welcoming the likes of mo salah and kevin du bruyne here next season . Heres one superfan who desperately hopes so. It isa it is a massive opportunity and, of course, our history in play offs is pretty grim. We have played in the play offs eight times and never got through but i thought we played really well against swansea and we looked confident and it is confidence that matters. In terms of the money behind the game and what the game brings, it is something we cannot control. We have our way and we can put a stamp on the game you can give yourself an opportunity. We wonder if luck will be on brentfords side later. Its another busy week for englands mens cricketers. Tomorrow, the test side begin a 3 match series against pakistan at old trafford. Today, the one day team face ireland in southampton with an unassailable 2 0 lead. The bubbles that have been created mean no crossover between the squads. Sam billings is one player whos taken advantage of that. It has been probably the hardest Sporting Team to get into probably in world sport at this time. So i just have to keep doing what i do and keep enjoying my cricket and getting some scores on the board when i can, and thankfully, i have donein when i can, and thankfully, i have done in this series. There is one game to go and hopefully i can do the same. And look whos back bowling all rounder ben stokes. An injury meant he only played as specialist batsman in the last test win over west indies. But signs are good he could be back ready to bowl again tomorrow. And finally, weve seen some strange things in sport but this tops it off. Have a look at this. This is the american 5 time 0lympic champion Katie Ledecky swimming the length of a pool with a glass of chocolate milk balanced on her head without spilling a drop. Now, i would like to say that this is all part of a well choreographed training routine to improve, bring about a smooth stroke ahead of the 0lympic next year, but it is all pa rt 0lympic next year, but it is all part ofan 0lympic next year, but it is all part of an advert to get people to drink more milk. But that is irrelevant have you ever seen anything quite like that . And also, i would be really cross if she dropped it. The mess the water was so beautiful. You wouldnt want to. But how do you set about thinking, i know what i can do. I reckon i can swim the length of a pool without spilling a drop, and she does so. Can i suggest, an export bulletin, i am thinking. Iam suggest, an export bulletin, i am thinking. I am putting suggest, an export bulletin, i am thinking. Iam putting it out there. That is an option. I know you have great balance. I think you can handle it. Have a think. We can get it here. Cant we . I bet the family we talk to next could do that. Nice to see you. Now, a summer family day out for most of us would normally be a trip to the park or zoo. But not for the houlding family. These are extraordinary images. This is 3 year old jackson. Hes thought to be the youngest person to reach the top of the 3,000 metre peak of piz badile with his parents and his 7 year old sister, freya. They alljoin us now from hvar in croatia, where they are having a well earned rest. Good morning to you all. It is lovely to see you. Thank you so much for talking to us. Leo, talk to us about this actual mountain. Well, the northridge of the peak is more than 1000 metres long, that climb, and it is a really prominent ridge, it is like the nose of a face. It never seems difficult but it is continuous. It is proper rock climbing, you are using your hands the whole way. Your legs are only half a metre long, and it is about three times the height of the shard in london. It is a pretty similar shape. It is like going on one of the corners. Wow freya, can we say a very good morning to you. Hello. Can you describe for us, people have seen a picture of you on the mountain, 0k, seen a picture of you on the mountain, ok, so can you describe what was the most difficult bit for us . Getting to the top and i got tired. You got up at the tired at the top, is that right . Yeah. I am not surprised. Jessica, tell us a little bit about why you think. Some people would be looking, thinking, why would you take your children to such a dangerous place to give them those challenges . Explain what youre thinking is. You area gp explain what youre thinking is. You are a gp as well. I am, yes. I must say, to most people it would look like it was dangerous, but my main concern was like it was dangerous, but my main concern was that the kids have fun on the climb. My husband is extraordinary in terms of his capability, he is a professional. I certainly wouldnt advise most families in terms of a family outing. But for him, he was well within his capabilities, so, yes, for me, it was all about making sure the kids had fun and enjoyed it up there. Jackson, you are seeing an amazing picture of you climbing up a mountain with your helmet on. Was he tired to one of you are sitting on the back of most of you most of the time . Going into the mountains involves risk. Every day involves risk. It is more riskier in the mountains. We chose that climb because the objective, the risks you cannot control a relatively few. When you are climbing, it is knowing how to make it safe. It is a lot more risk for the leader, so i went up more risk for the leader, so i went up first, more risk for the leader, so i went upfirst, and more risk for the leader, so i went up first, and then these guys have a rope above them stop so effectively you cant fall, there are is a rope the whole time. Freya climbed all by herself without any assistance, called free climbing, she still had a rope, obviously. And jackson had a harness and had a patch over mums shoulders. He is actually attached directly to me. It is kind of a well thought through the system. We have a double backup so if one thing fails, and other will work. We were more concerned about the kids enjoying it and not putting them off. It was a long climb, we were getting tired, but we got to the beautiful little hut on the top just before it got dark, which was perfect timing, and that was my 40th birthday that night, so it was a wonderful and to the 40th. Jackson, what was the best thing about the climb . What was the best . Getting to the top . Getting to the top freya, lastly, i can see some lovely trees behind you. Is that your garden . And if someone else thinks they would like to try to climb like you, maybe start free climbing first, it would be your tip for anyone, any youngsters watching . Try your hardest. Try your hardest i love you had to climb with jackson on your back. At off to you all. Thank your back. At off to you all. Thank you so much forjoining us. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you that is quite something freyas free climbing up mountains at the age of seven absolutely amazing. The British Red Cross celebrates its 150th anniversary today. Leading tributes to the charity, the queen has said it is valued and greatly appreciated. The prince of wales has told how his family had been involved for generations. My my great great great grandmother, queen victoria, was the very first patron in 1870. Queen alexandra, my great great grandmother, as princess of wales in 1885, formed her own Red Cross Branch to raise money to help the sick and wounded in war. As president , i have felt it to be of great importance to continue these Close Association and to help in whatever small way i can to support the extraordinary work of the red cross. Werejoined now by rukia shepherd, whos a volunteer with the British Red Cross, and mike adamson, whos the charitys chief executive. Good morning, both. Thank you for joining us. Tell us why you want to be involved with the red cross. Joining us. Tell us why you want to be involved with the red crossm isa be involved with the red crossm is a Renowned Organisation that is recognised all around the world, it is respected and trusted. And what sort of thing have you done for them . I have been involved. With most varied crises, but an individual, the crisis we are going through is a big one. Domestic floods and fires two major incidents over the years. How do you find the time . You are a full time teaching assistant with three children, so how do you manage to find the time, and why it so to you that you do this work . Because i really believe in the principles that the British Red Cross stands for. It is howl bring up my family, the children, and it is all the principles that i live by. I suppose in a way, the chief executive of the British Red Cross, those principles she was talking about, that is the point, isnt it . That is the whole point. That is absolutely right. It makes me feel very humble listening to that introduction and then hearing from people like her who give so much time and kindness. 0ur principles of humanity and partiality, neutrality, these were developed 150 years ago and it formed all of our work ever since. In the way, the sadness, but that they are as relevant today as they were all that time ago and that is what inspires and fires up all our people. We couldnt do anything that we do without our people. What about the British Red Cross, what are they up the British Red Cross, what are they up to at the moment . Helping people presumably during the coronavirus lockdown . That is right. We have been delivering food, medication, prescriptions, we won a National Support line where we provide advice and support to people with access to food and deliveries or access to cash which is increasingly important, but also providing psychosocial support, people are feeling very distressed by what is happening, they are isolated, confused about what to do next, and we are doing it not only here in the uk for all we are doing it not only here in the uk forall our we are doing it not only here in the uk for all our wonderful volunteering staff, supporting our International Partners as well. Some of the most difficult places, syria, bangladesh, without access to clean water and sanitation sometimes. It makes some of the things we take for granted like social distancing and hand washing very difficult. It is a Real National and international effort. You are nodding, mike was talking about the challenges people are facing right now. You have been involved in that work as well . have. It has kept me very busy indeed. What kind of thing . I have been busy with food parcels and providing support to a group of refugees and Asylum Seekers throughout the manchester area, Greater Manchester area consistently for 13 weeks for up to 20 families, so that has been very, very enlightening and rewarding. Mike, briefly, we have seen so Many Charities obviously still continuing with the work, but funding is a real issue. How has it affected you . With the work, but funding is a real issue. How has it affected you7m has been pretty tough, i will be honest with you, because we had to close all our shops and we are slowly reopening them. We have also had to close our First Aid Training business from which we generate cash, and it has affected our fundraising. So, slowly we are opening up, but there is no doubt that, like Many Charities, we will ta ke that, like Many Charities, we will take a significant hit on our income. We have been fortunate, because we are also a partner with the nhs, helping people get out of hospital get on their feet again, small amounts of funding from partners like the nhs, but it doesnt compensate for the heat that we are taking. And all of us, the very time when we are needed more than ever now here in 2020, looking up than ever now here in 2020, looking up to 2021 when health and income and inequalities going to be really challenging, we need to be ready to respond. We need the support of everyone to do that. It is wonderful the way people come together for our 150th birthday. Thank you very much. How can 150th birthday. Thank you very much. How can i say, you win the award for the best backdrop. It wallpaper . How can i say, you win the award for the best backdrop. It wallpaper7m is it is magnificent it is absolutely magnificent. Very calming. Good to see you both. Thank you very much. Thank you so much. It is coming up to eight oclock. I think we will look at sunflowers. Come on, charlie, that is a nice backdrop, isnt it . That is rather magnificent. In there somewhere we can see. They are going to make a maze. You can see can see. They are going to make a maze. You can see some of can see. They are going to make a maze. You can see some of the shapes emerging. We will look at that in a few minutes. Lets have a look at the weather. Though sunflowers would love some sunshine today. Some will get it. There is no such thing as the wrong type of weather, just the wrong type of clothing. It will be like this in many parts. Rayner time. Of clothing. It will be like this in many parts. Raynertime. Barely of clothing. It will be like this in many parts. Rayner time. Barely a cloud in the sky above london at the moment and we will continue with the brightest weather throughout the day. That is because High Pressure is holding on in the south, i generally wean dry. Hi generally means dry. Rain pushes across Northern Ireland into southern and western scotland. North and west wales so far this morning. It could affect parts of northwood midlands in the coming hours as well and work its way north and east throughout the day. Some heavy bursts returning later. Lighter and patchy with a better chance of some brighter weather into the second half of the day. Could be some minorflooding. Strong to gale force winds. For the midlands, this is where we stayed dry and bright. The lightest of the wind and a bit warmer than yesterday. This evening and overnight the heavy rain will ease off in scotland, but some heavier bursts return. Lots of cloud around the country through the night and whether quite a breeze and a very mild breeze for the time of year. 14 to 17 the minimum tonight, so much milder than the past few nights. A warm start to wednesday. Weather fronts tangled in the uk between the high and low pressure with means they will be plenty of cloud around. They were started some parts of Northern England. K wet start. Getting warmer towards the south and this headlines are next. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with Louise Minchin and charlie stayt. 0ur headlines today a warning that the uks test and trace system isnt good enough to prevent a second wave of coronavirus cases, when schools reopen. The First Students in the uk to get their grades after this years exams were cancelled its results day for more than 130,000 scottish students. £5 billion in losses, and dividends cut for the first time in a decade. A morale boosting team talk doddie weir and rob burrow get together for the First Time Since lockdown, sharing their experiences of life with Motor Neurone Disease. Its tuesday 4th august. Scientists are warning that the uks Contact Tracing system isnt good enough to prevent a second wave of covid 19 infections when all pupils are back at School Across the uk in september. In a study published today in the medicaljournal the lancet, they say their findings should be a wake up call to the government, and not an excuse to keep classrooms shut. In the last half hour, local government minister simon clarke told us. This is a system which is still, undoubtedly, still maturing. We are also confident it is taking people who may have been exposed to coronavirus and making sure they are self isolating. And every person that this system reaches, and every person who follows the guidance is helping to protect Wider Society. We obviously want that to continue to increase. But it is a system which, lest we forget, didnt exist until a few weeks ago. Lets get more on this with out Political Correspondent, nick eardley. Good morning. It is such an important time, we are talking about life more generally coming back to normal, more people back at work and in september schools across the uk will be back, that is a commitment. So the question about whether test and trace is working is more and more crucial . Absolutely, charlie. This is a whiskey period quite frankly, as you open up parts of society the Government House said there is some risk this is a whiskey period, quite frankly. We had to make sure we trace the people who have the virus and the contacts. This morning in the lancet is that quite simply not enough is being turned yet and we could underpin a situation where more of society opens, schools are open, more people are going back to work, when there isa are going back to work, when there is a big increase in cases. The message from simon parkin that interview in the last hour is that the government thinks it is giving well, frankly, it has built a system out of nowhere and its going to be able to find most cases the interview with simon clarke. The word he uses that it was still maturing and the concern is that it is not moving quick enough, and there was a risk because of that. We also got a pretty clear indication that even if there is this concern, the government will not in anyway rollback on that promise that all schools will be back in england at the start of september. Listen to simon clarke making that promise. The start of september. Listen to simon clarke making that promisem is our absolute determination that schools should open fully across the country in september. We would need to look at the circumstances in any Given Community at that point, but the very clear message the government wants to reinforce, and i know heads and Teachers Want to reinforce as well, is we should get children back to school this autumn. So that is the pledge for england, and now it is quite hard to see how the government could move back from that. We have had similar pledges and other parts of the uk, where the school years are sometimes slightly different. But the question remains, the chief medical officer has warned that we are probably upper limit of what we can open safely at the government will face increasing pressure over the next few weeks to show it has the right infrastructure in place to make some pretty big calls over the next few weeks, one of the biggest of which is putting schools back in early september. Thank you. The First Students in the uk whose exams were cancelled because of coronavirus will find out today what grades theyve been awarded. 0ver130,000 young people in scotland are finding out their results in highers and nationals. The marks will be based on estimates from their teachers, but its thought there could be a rise in the number of appeals. The australian state of victoria has announced harsh new penalties for residents who ignore orders to self isolate because of covid 19. Theyll be given a fine of over £2,500 if theyre caught with repeat offenders facing charges of up to 10 thousand pounds. There have also been reports Police Pulling people outof their cars for refusing to give their details. There have been reports of police being assaulted while pulling people out of cycles. Out of their cars. In the last hour the oil giant bp has announced multi billion pound losses. Ninas got more on this. Yes, £5. 1 billion in losses for three months to the end ofjune. In the same three months last year it made £2. 8 billion. We are driving less, flying less, doing less, making less. So demand for oil has plummeted. With questions around a sense when demand will recover, bp have announced a clutch of 10,000 jobs to their global workforce. Why should you care . They have helped their dividend. That is the money paid to shareholders, which trickles down to savings, pensions and sage. Traditionally bp has had among the highest dividend so they have appealed to Pension Funds. Shell said last week they are cutting their dividends for the First Time Since the Second World War and the expectation overall is that dividends will half over the course of this year, another big blow to save rs of this year, another big blow to savers at a time when Interest Rates we re savers at a time when Interest Rates were historically low, at 0. 1 . Thank you, nina, we will see you later. The queen has paid tribute to the British Red Cross on its 150th anniversary describing its work as valued and greatly appreciated. An online exhibition of 150 objects including a letter from Florence Nightingale has been put together to mark the occasion. Kathryn stanczyszyn has more. Archival footage we now what the red cross what have done for you and you know it far better. Providing help when it is most needed, a red cross is familiar around the world as a symbol of care. The meaning cemented during two world wars. 150 years ago today, at a public meeting, a group was formed to help sick and Wounded Soldiers and so the British Red Cross was born. Since then, the charity has given assistance across the globe, offering relief to armed forces and civilians in the wake of war and disaster, as well as being an important presence following tragedies here in uk. On this special anniversary, members of the royal family have been paying tribute. The queen, its patron for 65 years, has thanked volunteers and staff. And Prince Charles has recorded a video to mark the opening of a new online exhibition featuring 150 objects from the charitys archives. He says it is still a much needed service. I need hardly remind you that the work of the British Red Cross is as essential today as it has ever been, helping those in need, both in the United Kingdom and around the world, strengthening our communities, and supporting people to face the challenges of an ever changing and unpredictable world. A new £5 coin will commemorate a century and a half of caring that shows, says the prince of wales, just how powerful kindness can be. Kathryn stanczyszyn, bbc news. Its the first big results day in the uk today following the coronavirus pandemic more than 130,000 students in scotland are set to get their grades, despite this years exams being cancelled. A handful of them are with lorna gordon at a school in glasgow for us this morning, as they prepare for their results. It has been such a difficult time for them, effectively all teaching stopping and all the exams cancelled. The results are based on their performance over a period of time, maybe in the exams running up to the other exams. We are in scotland, they are the first cohort of stu d e nts scotland, they are the first cohort of students to get their results in this way. Morning, lorna. You are in glasgow, they have got some results in the last ten minutes . The sqa has moderated the results across scotland, there is a chance. Well, every year students want to appeal, perhaps there will be more this year, that will become clear in the days to follow, but the sqa has said appeals will be free this year for those who want to pursue them, but Great Results here at this secondary school in glasgow. Studio lorna, can we go back over to dionne and john, that father and daughter, it has been such an emotionaljourney given the circumstances and everything, and i think a lot of people have been really touched by whatjohn said about his dotage even better than he ever did, especially this generation and what they had to cope with. That so choose. The presenter charlie has asked us to come back to you because you said you are so proud of how your daughter has done and how this generation has done, especially with what they have had to cope with thatis what they have had to cope with that is so true. It is incredible, especially considering how tough the last few months have been for everybody giving exams . Absolutely, kudos to each one of them, this is definitely unprecedented. So proud . Unbelievably. It is nice to hear your dad singing your praises. What a lovely site, proud parents and pretty just kids. A lovely site, proud parents and prettyjust kids. Thank a lovely site, proud parents and pretty just kids. Thank you a lovely site, proud parents and prettyjust kids. Thank you very much, lorna, and congratulations to those people. Proud parents and pretty chuffed kids. Scotland is ahead of the rest of the uk. If your child has had exams cancelled, you probably know when their results are, but had not, lets tell you. These results days are all for england, wales and Northern Ireland and will be based on predicted results. To find out what it all means, lets chat to nus president larissa kennedy, and geoff barton, general secretary for the association of school and college leaders. Thank you both forjoining us. Larissa, so many people have been affected by the fact that the exams, something they have worked towards for many years, were cancelled. What you think the long term effect on stu d e nts you think the long term effect on students might be . Thank you for having me here. I think the long term effect will be quite an immediate effect, there will be some stu d e nts immediate effect, there will be some students opening those e mails, getting those results this morning who know that is not reflective of their performance, and the fact that this is being moderated in relation to their prior performance, the fact that appeals can only go through a fair school and college breeds, i just think we are going back to a system which furthers the marginalisation of already marginalised students and communities. Just button, you are from the association of scool and couege from the association of scool and college leaders, do you want to pick up college leaders, do you want to pick up on that . Geoff barton, you are from. Some people would say this is unfair, but covid 19 is unfair, so have we done the best we could . The decision to cancel exams in close schools can quickly had to be done. And that using exams such as for the child little city judge and that using exams such as for the child little cityjudge the teacher, the school, the performance tables, two graduate of that was the right decision. And using exams not just for the child but to judge the teacher. Children have missed out on rights of passage, not giving exams, not having shared signs, not saying goodbye to the teachers. We have tried to make sure that children get the grades that they deserve. We we re the grades that they deserve. We were talking to students in scotland, most of the ones we talked to have them fantastically well. At some students will think the system has not worked for them, maybe they wa nted has not worked for them, maybe they wanted an exam situation, maybe they did not use so well in the build up. What are your concerns about the number of people that will appeal, possibly justifiably so, and number of people that will appeal, possiblyjustifiably so, and the system has worked against them. The most important thing is they understand the system, if i have a brand new history teacher understand the system, if i have a brand new history teacher who understand the system, if i have a brand new history teacher who only started last year or who does not like me, iwould be wondering whether i would be disadvantaged. So even though i am your history teacher, i am even though i am your history teacher, lam not even though i am your history teacher, i am not the even though i am your history teacher, lam not the person even though i am your history teacher, i am not the person finally responsible for your great, there might be four, five or more other history groups and the veteran history groups and the veteran history teacher working with all the others will have come up with a rank order, it will be a collective effort using the expertise of teachers. Part two of this is that the headed centre will have signed an ethical statement saying we had done our very best to give the appropriate grades to those children. It is not like a teacher putting their finger in the air and choosing a great, the process has been rigorous and robust and has been rigorous and robust and has been passed back to the examination board, then 0fqual in england, the regulator, has looked at the tcf those results look in line with previous results from that school. think that means that the number of appeals might be lower than predicted. Larissa, hopefully lots of people will get their results and think it is a fair recess meant. For those who feel the necessity or think it does not reflect their work, what is your advice . We know they can we take all appeal, what would your advice be . We know they can retake it. My advice is to fight for the grades you think you deserve. We want to put in a robust system between no that historically the system of predicted grades itself will always further disadvantage already disadvantaged students. We know that historically those whose predicted grades are accurate is about 53 amongst white stu d e nts accurate is about 53 amongst white students but 39 among black counterparts, so we see racism, classism and other forms of marginalisation. So if you are opening up that e mail and you feel it is not the grade you deserve, please fight for your school or couege please fight for your school or college to fight for you and get that appeal and dont be discouraged. Thank you very much, larissa, really good to talk to you. And geoff barton as well, good advice from you both about how things have been done. For those getting their results in scotland today the bbc bitesize website has lots of advice and support. You can find it on the website bbc. Co. Uk bitesize. Whenever we talk about results, in my head i am thinking, in years to come it will be like a badge of honour, that you got what you get in this year of all years, because it becomes part of your story. Whatever you have got today, it is an extraordinary achievement in difficult times. Very good look to everybody getting their results, we know it is stressful. Six months have passed since we brought together doddie weir, rob burrow and Stephen Darby. Three sportsmen who are all living with Motor Neurone Disease an illness with no cure. Coronavirus has brought extra challenges, but recently doddie made a surprise visit to see rob. It was the first time theyd met in person since february. Sally has more. Brought together in the most difficult circumstances, theirs is a friendship that provides support and strength. Im not giving in till my last breath. Too many reasons to live. Three sportsmen, one debilitating condition. They spoke together for the first time earlier this year. The average Life Expectancy is between one and three years. So im here, overthat, still living, still smiling. But when i met doddie, he showed me the path i needed to go down, the productivity. The guy likes banter. The spread of covid 19 has brought a new set of risks. For these men who want to make the most of every single day, it has been challenging. Now we have to try to take on the covid. Injune, we caught up with rob, doddie and Stephen Darby to see how they were coping with life in lockdown. I can hear that its difficult for you to talk, but you feel 0k . Recently, doddie, who turned 50 last month, made a private visit to rob at his home in yorkshire. Come to see you, come to see how you are getting on. As ever, the former Scotland International knows just what to say in an Important Team talk. I know youre fighting hard, but dont let mnd win. Are you still eating well . Yeah. Stuck to the roof of your mouth, is it . It was the morale boost they both needed. Of course, these men didnt ever play together, but they say they are team mates now. Sally joins us now. It is lovely to see them together, thatis it is lovely to see them together, that is a really special moment for then . It is, because the last three months have been so incredibly difficult and i think all three men, all these sportsmen who are linked by mnd, they had different types of struggle and mnd, different challenges everyday, and you can see the situation with rob, doddie talking to him, rub having more problems with his voice but doddie telling him to stay positive and keep fighting, that is an attitude that i know rob finds very helpful when they are talking. They support each other really well. Rob has been isolating at home in yorkshire, doddie has been on his farm in scotland, still trying to do as much work as he can, and doddie has beaten the odds, he has already lived longer than he was told he was going to, so incredible. In stephen dobbie, the said member of our little tea m dobbie, the said member of our little team he was not in that little team he was not in that little video, he is staying with family at the moment, and not only are these three men all sportsmen that they all have really Strong Family support networks. They can talk to each other in a way that outsiders cant, because they can talk about the ugly practicalities, the really difficult bets. We had a little bit of that, they can exchange what that is like an van aken take the mickey out of each other in the same breath . And then they can take the mickey. Whenever you talk to somebody with a life limiting disease, you are a tiny bit nervous, you dont want to upset them all say the wrong thing, but these guys say whatever they wa nted but these guys say whatever they wanted to each other, there is no other option for them. I think they find a huge amount of support in that nicki taking and banter, what extra help you need enough the moment, but then they will also crack a joke about it because that is what they say keeps them going, and a sense of humourfor all of them has been really important, and i think what is important, when you watch them together, it is so humbling to see the attitude. They dont want us all anyone at home to feel sorry for them, they dont want sympathy, they want action and to raise the profile of mnd and perhaps goes some way to finding a cause. There drame is a common they want is to be talking in a way we have not been previously their dream is a clear but they wanted to be talking a nyway we clear but they wanted to be talking anyway we have not been previously. We will keep following all three of them. You are watching bbc breakfast. Still to come. Saying thank you with sunflowers. Were live at a sunflower maze designed especially to raise money for the nhs. We ll be discussing that shortly and bringing you the latest news. Now lets get the weather with matt. Good morning. Two weather watchers shot to take off. The eastern side of the pennines, in york, sunshine. Western side of the pennines, towards the Lake District in west cumbria, it is grey and wet. That is the story across many northern and Western Areas. When you have low pressure close by, rain is neverfar away courtesy of these weather fronts, these outbreaks of rain have been affected in Northern Ireland, southern scotland, pushing across north west england and wales, working east and north to the rest of this morning. It started dry across parts of scotland are noticed england but there is a chance of rain at times. The further south and east you are, it should stay dry. Some of the heaviest rain will be across parts of south west scotland and Northern Ireland into the afternoon, and i could be flooding later on in south west ireland. Winds latest further south and east, pa rt winds latest further south and east, part of the midlands, east anglia and the south east Channel Islands stage right and bright, woman and yesterday, height of 23 compared to 16 or 17 across scotland. Stay dry and bright, warmer than yesterday, height of 23. It will be quite a mild night, wind coming from the mid atla ntic, temperatures quite a mild night, wind coming from the mid atlantic, temperatures not dropping below 16 or 17 fulsome of unc tomorrow. We are not done westaway yet, those weather fronts outrage across central areas, a wet starter because parts of Northern England, maybe wales and Northern Ireland. Another bhainswal work eastwards after a bright starter because other parts of england and wales, turning cloudy and wet in the west. Turning giant increasingly warm touch, temperatures in the upper 20s folsom, temperatures higher in scotland and Northern Ireland compared to today. Wednesday and thursday, weather fronts ireland compared to today. Wednesday and thursday, weatherfronts pushing eastwards, decaying as they go, leaving nothing more than a residue of cloud for thursday and some spots of cloud for thursday and some spots of and drizzle. We will see increasing sunshine develop on thursday, temperatures writing across the board, parts thursday, temperatures writing across the boa rd, parts of thursday, temperatures writing across the board, parts of the midlands to the south east could see temperatures in the mid 20s to maybe around 30 degrees. Those temperatures will climb only further towards friday, not for us all but certainly across some southern and eastern parts, like last friday temperatures could get into the mid 30s. The difference with last week is temperatures might not get as high but the heat will last longer across parts of the south and east, continuing into saturday. Not as warm to end the week compared with last week, the present in the sunshine. Noise they have confirmed that, 878 jobs will go. Trainees and those working in Foreign Exchange take the biggest hit. Hays travel had remained optimistic about the future all the way through lockdown. They had also taken on thousands of thomas cook staff, that was until the measure last saturday when the Spanish Court over shop and quarantine for those returning was imposed. There is clear evidence that just before imposed. There is clear evidence thatjust before a week last saturday the figures were coming back, they were coming back steadily and we were really pleased with the return of new bookings and notjust new bookings for 2021, we were actually performing quite strongly at the moment, but we were seeing new bookings steadily coming in for summer 2020, which would have helped the position in relation to staffing. As you can imagine in the early months of lockdown, we were in a negative revenue position. We chose to bring our staff back from furlough very early. We brought 3000 people back to look after our customers and we had to pay them as a company. We were in negative revenue until about six weeks ago. Six weeks ago the booking started to come back. After we had past saturday it was like turning off the tap. Turning off the tap of their income. And they were on a list of job losses yesterday, the retail chain matter what is going into administration, 1700 jobs, hsbc bringing forward redundancy plans, in the past week, selfridges, the National Trust, tui, have all announced losses. 0ne estimate is that 150,000 ukjobs announced losses. 0ne estimate is that 150,000 uk jobs have announced losses. 0ne estimate is that 150,000 ukjobs have already gone since the beginning of the pandemic. Hays travel in part blames changes to the furlough scheme because of all as of august one employers in a Job Retention scheme have to start paying the National Insurance and pension contributions for the staff they have put on further, Government Support for that scheme will taper every month before ending completely at the end of 0ctober. So what is next . The eat 0ut 0ctober. So what is next . The eat out to help 0ut scheme launched yesterday. Looked like it got off to a flying start but overall, the spending recovery isnt happening fast enough. Football is jobs rose by just fast enough. Football is jobs rose byjust 2. 5 fast enough. Football is jobs rose by just 2. 5 last week, lest any 4 a week before and down one third in general to this time last year. Recovery will largely be based on consumer confidence, how good people feel about getting out spending and with these regional spikes, the increases in the r number, youve got to wonder how people feel about that. Despite the government encouraging people back into offices, and town centres and city centres, football in Central London up centres, football in Central London up only 2 compared to last week so it is just not quite happening quicker off for the economy. 60,000 people should have been getting to ta ke people should have been getting to take part in the great north run. But it has had to be cancelled due to coronavirus, and instead those training have been encouraged to run their own race on the day. We are joined by race organiser brendan foster. And 21 sign runner, colin. It is so disappointing for people, they have known for a while this one is not happening but it is for people. It is devastating. People had been aiming to get in, had got accepted, and then the storm blew in and we couldnt do anything about it. It has been devastating for us, and for the runners, but it has not been as devastating for as us as it has been for those who have lost friends and family to the disease or who are still suffering from the disease. It is a horrible disease, we realise that we could not bring people here for the great north run, even though we had 60,000, a record, entries this year. So what we have done as a virtual great north run. You can do it wherever you are. I was cheered this morning, it is actually, it is doing what we thought it would do. You cant come andjoin us and thought it would do. You cant come and join us and we are coming to you and join us and we are coming to you and hopefully you will come back next year. Colin, iwant and hopefully you will come back next year. Colin, i want to talk to you, i have got a couple of medals. But others all of yours lined up behind you . But others all of yours lined up behind you . That but others all of yours lined up behind you . That is a lot of medals i absolutely love the great north run. It is part of my life. 21 times, why do you keep going back . Printing already knows this. I am addicted to the great north run. When i was a child in the early 805 andl when i was a child in the early 805 and i saw the first one, because it we nt pa 5t and i saw the first one, because it went past my house in 1981 and i was ju5t addicted, 5ince went past my house in 1981 and i was ju5t addicted, since then. In 2014 i 5tarted ju5t addicted, since then. In 2014 i started doing it again because i had mi55ed started doing it again because i had missed a few years, to raise money, to become the guy in the big pink dre55. To become the guy in the big pink dress. You have put it out there. Lets have a look at calling in the big pink dress. Everyone get a sense of what it looks like. That is magnificent. A fantastic outfit. It is not pink every time, it changes colour every year . It depends which charity im doing it for. I started off, i was raising money for breast cancer. I was wearing pink and i worked in a home at the time and thati5 worked in a home at the time and that is where it came from, we had a sta r5 that is where it came from, we had a stars in their eyes 5how. That is where it came from, we had a stars in their eyes show. that is where it came from, we had a stars in their eyes show. I was diana ross. And then you are, posing alongside the river. Do you have the address handy . The dress. alongside the river. Do you have the address handy . The dress. I am going to work in about five minutes ok, going to work in about five minutes 0k, what have we got was matter is that the hat . Can you please put it on, just so we get. . That is more like it can you see that, brendan . I cant see it here, but he is making you smile, he does a great job every year at the great north run and he is going tojoin the virtual great north run, i am hearing, which is good news. He has a lot of medals there, he might not get one this year but i have no doubt he will be back next year. Loads of runners have been raising money for charity and normally the great north run raises £25 million for various charities including colins and sadly this year the great north run isnt able to happen so £25 million is a huge loss to the charities, which is in danger, what the entries are just flooding and now for the virtual great north run, we are saying to people to come and do the virtual great north run, the Charity Still need you, and entries are coming in from all over the place. We had an entry from australia yesterday as well. It is going round the world. Next year it is going to come back home, but we are delighted with the response, and we hope that in these difficult and dangerous times, we hope peoplejust have that one day, they have been aiming for it im training for it, they have been running the great north run solo, getting ready for the big day, and the fundraising, fingers crossed, will be coming back to some level of order, because the charities are really hurting. We are all hurting, but one day, we hope it is going to come together, just that once. So, colin, you are presumably planning to run it in the dress . Im making a new one, i think im up to 87 dresses at the moment it is going to help every great north run t shirt on it. Going to help every great north run tshirt on it. You make them yourself . Yes, i discovered that i could sew about six years ago utterly brilliant colin and brendan, thank you very much, and good luck with the virtual great north run. That is brilliant, isnt it . John, can you follow that . What have you got for us . Seeing those outfits makes me think of what we wouldst have seen at wembley with the championship play off final, the colour, atmosphere, all the face painting, but there will be none of that, no fans at wembley to watch the big game to come tonight. You imagine the atmosphere that would have been created with 90,000 fans inside wembley. They call it the most lucrative match in football the championship play off final securing the winners a place in the premier league. It is worth £100 million for the winner. And there really isnt much to split the two teams. Just 5. 5 miles separate west london rivals brentford and fulham, and they finished level on points at the end of the championship season. Unlike their opponents fulham, brentford have never played in the premier league. They have, though, built a brand new stadium here it is. Will there be welcoming the likes of sadia manet and Sergio Aguero next season . Despite his best efforts, greg dyke, the former fa chairman hasnt even been able to get a seat inside wembley later. Ive tried to pull every trick you could pull to get a ticket for tonight. Even phoning my mate, who is the chairman of the football league. And contacts i have in wembley, asking, well, what about getting me a box on my own . And ill pay a lot of money for it. All failed. Even those contacts have not come through for greg dyke. Fulham has a superfan through for greg dyke. Fulham has a super fan as well in the shape of hollywood actor hugh grant. Very little to separate the teams. It is ha rd to little to separate the teams. It is hard to see whos going to win this one. Brentford have been the top scorers in the league, they have one of the meanest defences, but will have the premier league experience, being in the play offs a few seasons ago, and with their star striker alexander dmitrovic, he was the leading scorer in the championship this season so many interesting subplots going on heading into this match, and just a bit of a disappointment that so many fans will not be there to see it because with such a close rivalry between those two teams, it would have made for a fantastic atmosphere at wembley later. Good luck to both sides, in what are extraordinary circumstances. John, thank you very much. Over the years, sheep rustling has slowly become an organised crime costing farmers millions of pounds. The problem has escalated during the lockdown with the farmers insurer nfu mutual, recording a spike in thefts of livestock and expensive equipment. Phil mackie has this report. This is one of the reasons criminals want to steal agricultural equipment. This was taken from stables a few miles away and then used in a cash machine smash and grab in hampshire. The other reason is that they fetch big money in Eastern Europe. Some are recovered and brought back to this country. So a couple of machines weve had back from poland. This one here is manitou telehandler, valued around £28,000. It was stolen in leicestershire from a farm and very similar to the honda quad here, about £4,000 worth of quad bike there. The value of vehicle theft went up by 20 last year to more than £9 million and lockdown has made things worse. Easy to get away with. We have been in a state of lockdown so stuff has been able to be moved and hidden without any police attention. People have been able to get stuff out of the country because the Border Police have been tied up with other issues. The value of Livestock Theft went up to £3 million and organised criminal gangs have become more brazen in lockdown. No matter how much security you have, you cannot keep a remote field like this completely safe from the criminal gangs and these cattle are worth about £1200 a head so no matter how many fences or gates there are in the way, they are prepared to break through that to steal the cattle. As you see, the gate was locked, it wasnt broken, it stayed locked but they accessed through they kicked in the wooden panels there and accessed through the doors off the road. Johnny rogers had 100 sheep stolen from his devon farm. It can happen at any time. It is a worry. The Farming Community does help and they do their best to do like neighbourhood watch and stuff like that but, at the end of the day, if people want to get in and they want to steal something, they are going to do it, no matter what you put in their way. The latest trend is for the thieves to kill the sheep on site and sell the meat on the black market. For the public, there are obviously big Health Concerns with meat that could be slaughtered or produced in makeshift abattoirs, in very unhygienic conditions. Here is another example of stolen Farm Machinery being used to commit other crimes. Only this time they were stopped. Phil mackie, bbc news. We can go live now to phil, who is at a farm in worcestershire for us this morning. Theyve also had problems at that farm . Yes, this is a farm near bromsgrove in worcestershire. Theyve had problems with livestock there. We think of crime being an urban problem. The criminal gangs are out in the countryside as well. The problem is best seen from the sky, where you can get a good impression of what is going on, and how big an area this is. Sheep in the foreground, and in the distance, highland cattle. We saw some of them in myfilm. Highland cattle. We saw some of them in my film. Worth a lot of money. That is what incentivises the thieves to come and look for that. There is a high value. Some of that goes on to the black market for meat and it has become a big problem with rural crime rising over the last couple of years. Let me introduce you to liz monk, the farmer, here. Youve had problems with sheep theft . Weve had sheep taken from theft . Weve had sheep taken from the field, stolen out of the fields, and we had an incident where there had been some dead sheep found in walsall that had been dumped on some waste ground that had obviously been stolen and just dumped, there. It is very ha rd stolen and just dumped, there. It is very hard to keep an eye on all of the fields. We have got nine fields, here. And if there are only 20 going missing you dont know until you have got them in and counted them. Very quickly, this is a problem in that you live here, and you have got criminals coming to your home. That you live here, and you have got criminals coming to your homem has an impact only. It makes you feel vulnerable in your own home. You dont know who is around, or creeping around the farm. Lee paige from the police hasjoined us now. For you, rural crime is from the police hasjoined us now. Foryou, rural crime is a big issue. Yes, one third of the community here is rural, and that is up to 50 in herefordshire so rural crime is a priority for us. In terms of the way that we approach that is through proactive communication with farms, and since june this year, we have been visiting every farm in all of the county speaking to farmers, making sure that we are having those conversations and gathering information that has been talked about. I appreciate the impact these offe nces about. I appreciate the impact these offences have. Farmers like liz have worked so hard during coronavirus to deliver and keep the country running, and to be targeted by organised criminals like this is an absolute kick in the teeth. One of the complaints, in the nfu mutual report was that perhaps the police are not sharing of information because these gangs work across cou nty because these gangs work across county boundaries and national borders. Sharing information is important between us and the farmers and business owners. Also between us and business owners. Also between us and other forces and partner agencies. Last week in shropshire we did ajoint agencies. Last week in shropshire we did a joint operation with the police in powys, we know that these organised pillows dont respect borders, they are travelling up and down the country committing offences and that is why we have to Work Together to make sure that we tackle it. A big problem, charlie and luiz. The figures today were from 2019, from last year, but they have already looked at the figures this year, and april, when locked and was at its peak, Livestock Theft went up another 15 . That has been reflected locally with the number of thieves. More is being done, Police Numbers are growing up with new recruitment targets, but it is an issue we need to think a little bit more about according to the nfu mutual, who provided the figures today. Interesting hearing from the farmers there, thank you very much. Marcus rashford was on the front page of every newspaper a few weeks ago. Now hes on the front cover of the latest edition of vogue magazine, along with model adwoa aboah, which is all about activists and campaigners for social justice. That striking image was shot by misan harriman, who joins us now along with dr meenal viz, who also features in the issue. Ididnt i didnt know you had the baby. That is so lovely. Misan, tell us about this shoot, it was special, wasnt it . I have to congratulate meenal because when i photographed her she was due to have the baby. Congratulations. Meenal, how are you doing and how did you get involved in this vogue shoot . It started back in march. We were working as doctors and Health Care Workers during the pandemic. We were concerned about our safety. We were concerned that we would not be protected. And we wanted to protect the public and be in the position to be able to serve the country during this pandemic, and we were escalating our concerns because we were worried we didnt have the right protection. We try to escalate concerns in the right way, through the right roots, and we were not being heard. Not only that, we we re not being heard. Not only that, we were being silenced in our hospitals. And it was the death of a nurse who passed away as she was pregnant, as she left behind a newborn baby, a two year old son and a husband and that broke my heart, because the situation was completely avoidable. From then on, i have been campaigning for better protection for doctors, but also to create a national conversation, that doctors need to be protected and our welfare is very important, and from there, the team at vogue got in touch with me, and the team at vogue got in touch with me, and i am grateful for the opportunities that they have provided, and my son was great as well during the shoot. You had your daughter during lockdown, and as i understand it the vogue shoot, we will pick up on that in a moment, it is about the future and what happens next, and the challenges, across the future and what things should look like. That is what played a big role. My daughter is sat on my lap now. She was my big strength and inspiration. When i had this conversation during the shoot, we spoke about what the future was going to look like and how important this movement is, with black lives matter, with protection of health ca re matter, with protection of Health Care Workers, so our children in the future and know that there are people who will fight forjustice and for the truth. Misan, that shoot was all about activism, wasnt it . You are the first black male photographer to take the cover shot, is that right . Yes, in the 104 year history of British Vogue i am the first black male photographer to shoot a cover, and the first black person ever to shoot a September Issue, and i think what edward has orchestrated, i call it a symphony of activism. So many of the subjects i photographed are people that i am in absolute or over. When i saw meenal, i had a child during lockdown as well, i just was in all, really, offer. She was due to have a child within a week i think when i photographed her. And she isjust one example of the sort of people that everyone has reached out due to say, what you are doing matters. We see you, say, what you are doing matters. We see you , we say, what you are doing matters. We see you, we hear you, and hes going to use the platform he has three British Vogue to make sure as many other people can understand. Also, meenal is a remarkable and honest reflection of a multicultural england, right, that shows how good we are, when we have diversity in this country, and i am againjust very proud to have photographed her, and to have people like being in the most important issue, arguably ever, of British Vogue. We should say congratulations to you as well, misan ididnt congratulations to you as well, misan i didnt know you also had a baby. It is a joint celebration. You have mentioned edward, who is the new editor of British Vogue. You are clearly seen from your point of view, an opportunity for someone in that position to make a real difference. To have power is one thing, but to use your influence to empower others, it should be something that well emulate. Edward has had many to put in the issue, and who should photograph it, and he picked me, and i hope, wherever my story goes that i will also lift others up, it is a trickle down effect, and he is showing that in a way that i dont think has been seen before. He has only been there for three years, and has repeatedly made history during his tenure, which speaks a lot. Lovely to speak to you both. Thank you very much. Lovely to see you there with your beautiful young daughter. First tv appearance . It is thank you, good to chat. The September Issue of British Vogue will be available from friday. There have been many and varied tributes to the nhs and its staff during the last few months. But there have probably been few which are more colourful than the one adam mcclean, is going to show us from a farm in merseyside this morning. He can explain what it is all about. Good morning to you. Good morning luiz and charlie. Not only have we been treated to the most incredible sunrise this morning, we have been treated to half a million of the most beautiful sunflowers. There is a special tribute in the next field that you will see in a moment. If you think they are pretty from down here, take a look at the view from the air. This is a live drone shop. Id like to introduce you to the people who built and treated the sunflower maze. Adam, you were involved in planting half a million sunflowers. It must have taken a while. We have a big tractor and a six metre combi, so we did it in about one hour. Then we just cut the maize into it. People love it, i take it. They do, definitely. You are the farmer here, 0llie, why did you do this . Definitely. You are the farmer here, 0llie, why did you do this7m definitely. You are the farmer here, ollie, why did you do this . It was the nhs, there was the clapping for ca re rs the nhs, there was the clapping for carers thing, and i thought that i would say it with flowers instead. The right time of april, 10th of april that we are them, then we drilled this field and we decided to doa drilled this field and we decided to do a maze so people could come and visit them. And it is an issue close to your heart . Yes, i have Underlying Health issues, and i have family members who are nurses, as well. And people can come and check it out. Yes, we have, because of the social distancing, you have to book a five minute entry time, and we sent people through, every five minutes. Im glad that we are with these guys because if we had to find our own way out it would be midnight before we were back at the office get very nervous in mazes, so i think we have shown people a few clues, havent we, charlie . And there is the nhs logo, with the maize area just above it. We will leave you with those images. We are back tomorrow at 6am. Have a lovely day.
