Wrench into this rally with us, stephanie link and jon and Pete Najarian and jim cramer, the host of mad money. So many big names reporting earnings across a wide array of critical sectors you see what they are doing today. Is this the week that will decide the fate of this rally . I would say yes the plethora and broad range and what ill also have to tell you is that it will be good. We have so many topquality Companies Reporting this week. I mean, look, there are companies that are so on fire that are big cap im talking about microsoft, which we all like. Microsoft is doing everything. A johnson johnson, now up 20 points, even though its not necessarily on fire, these are the stocks that have been percolating up. Weve got the calendar up now. Travelers last time, socalled disappointment went up another 15 points. United health. Steph, i look at you and say, does it not have 200 written all over it . Absolutely. Are those the names, jim, that youll specifically be honing in on yes some of those are individual stories. Some hold a bigger key. I think the dow, as much as it might be out of this, is still a classic gauge of the Big International stocks and i think its the rest of the world that is doing really well i think people are way too focused on gridlock here jamie diamond said the rest of the world are ahead of us. Pete, the name or two that youre going to be focused on that you think could really hold a significant key to where this market goes . Microsoft i cant wait to hear from visa goldman sachs, Morgan Stanley, some of those names as well. But when its microsoft, this is a big cap tech that sort of gets forgotten oftentimes because they are making huge strides in the cloud and its going to go after one of those f. A. N. G. Stocks. Theres f. A. N. G. Envy. Dont forget about linkedin this is going to be huge for them we talked about unusual activity on friday with microsoft upgrades. Thats what i want to talk about. The Credit Suisse move on microsoft goes from 84 bucks to 80 they reiterated their love for this stock well talk about Amazon Web Services google is a competitor but amy hood is a great ceo. Far more competitive in many ways, you know that hes a vicious competitor dressed in a black tshirt. Weve been waiting forever for leverage in microsoft. They continue to invest in the cloud but you havent seen it powerful on the bottom line. I think youre going to start to see that. Breakout . Yes all of you are painting what could be a great scenario. Right but jims expecting good results from most of the names that are on the board. I mentioned the dow stocks. I love those they are just so good. Its also important, some of the real economy stocks like up, union pacific, they are going to tell you what is going on realtime in the economy. The u. S. Is so slow and internationally very strong. The big theme for earnings this quarter is going to be the weak dollar and multinationals will benefit from the weak dollar and that could be the juice that we need. Pepsico gave you that yes and it doesnt really matter probably to the market about ibm and ge, which will likely be awful. The reality is that around them it will be so much more and people expect it to be bad this may be why the dow does not perform as well as the s p and swm and nasdaq. Does anyone really think of what will happen if ge Shows Positive cash flow sorry, jim. That one well disagree on if anything, jim, based on ge and the changes happening, this could be the kitchen sink type of thing, right . A lot of peopleare talking about that were going to discuss nelson peltz. Its kind of a wells fargo board feel, if you know what i mean. Uhhuh. The places that you want to be this week, so microsoft gets called out positively. Morgan stanley raises the price target. Apple brings it all back to big tech we started with microsoft and now apple and some others. Yes and technology has been strong it continues to be strong. And anybody who has any part of the cloud it is cloud cloud is adoption and it used to be thin and now its retail. Health care is adopted and these are really big secular trends i come back to j j the stock got slammed. Look at what it does by the way, thats the best for the dollar. But the banks are important this week. True. Especially since they started off not so great i think the quarter was fine there were puts and takes but we really need to see bank of america do well. I think Morgan Stanley will do fine morgan sacks is the wildcard Everybody Knows that it wasnt great but it wasnt as bad as we expected i think that banks really need to show leadership here as well. But can they break away city was a really good quarter and what i felt was like, wow, they didnt even read the quarter. It was so much better. They have a changeable book value. There was c card. They are giving back a little bit. Thats right. Lets go back to apple for a moment. Sure. I dont want to gloss over what you have character rised as a really great note. What did you love about that not unlike tax reform, anything that gives you hope for 2018 all they said is those of you who are trading it, forget about that this is not about that this is about a great next year. There are Consumer Product company like what Warren Buffett says they dont want to produce the product before its ready. Thats their style they dont put out something until it is ready. Their competition has done that but they have not done that. The firephone and the phone was on fire as well it must have been a fire phone. What about the calendar, though, which katie mentions other guys want you to trade in and out of it endlessly shes taking a longer term view. Maybe this is going to be great. And katie has been doing this forever. Shes been right, scott, and she hasnt been shaken out so true lets talk about the famed actor nelson peltz taking on Procter Gamble our leslie thicker is here with more scott, its the biggest ever company to engage inaproxy battle with an activist. Seeking to nominate pell son peltz to the board, it will drive down costs and bureaucracy. P g said it has maintained an active dialogue with trian since it made its investment in the company. But peltz spoke with our david faber earlier and stressed the need for flesh blood at p g. Do you have people at p g, for the most part not for the most part, but 99 who have never had another job but p g. You should have a soft target that at least 25 of them come from other companies because these guys know the playbook at p g. You know what they are doing when they solve a problem . They are talking to themselves. This has historically produced recent returns. He announced a 1. 6 billion stake in dupont four years ago its up 63 since then he put money into sysco since then and 1. 3 billion stake in pepsi that he kpiexited from ma of last year his biggest stakes are trading in the red 2. 5 billion investment in p g is down and he announced more than 3 billion stake in february scott . Jim, you guys talked to peltz, obviously, you, david and carl he said that the company hasnt lived up to its potential. They are losing market share he pointed out in the context of this particular conversation, he said when he gets on the board of a Consumer Products goods company, annual eps growth has gone up 180 basis points better than the s p 500. Yes. You talk about that all the time proctor this is a major focus for me because proctor is a class particulclassic great stock. The notion of the insular cincinnati culture is for real and i think a lot of people have left the company and they would agree with that. I have to turn to you two gentlemen. There were some words about the record and this is you are what your record says you are. Exactly. And the shareholder return isnt as good. Take a look at this. Hes done a remarkable job one guy takes the hand and augments it and it turns into a full house the other guy takes the hand and its still the same hand if you go through the quarter, they have done everything it looks like to be able to cut costs and who knows what nelson could bring to the table but why not go to ed breen love nelsons input. Go back to johnson thought it was great input i think, put it on now you have this thing where the whole talk of proctor will be put them on or not put them on as opposed to the cost cuts that they are trying to get through. I think youd love to have an outside view of a guy who is really engaged. So do you buy the stock before you know whether they agreed to put peltz on this is tough it could be a settlement. This is tough because of the ge situation because in the end, nelson came in to ge and it looked like they were going to get the fabled 2 bucks. Stock went to 30 and in the end jeff immault let them down you know what, in the end, these companies are not nearly as in control of their fate as they used to be we know that Procter Gamble is up against shelf space and dollar shave club, which i use i never thought id go away from gillette before i could even shave i was using gillette it was synonymous. You go through different kinds of detergent that you get. Were still tide users but were not crest. And amazon, whatever they are featuring. They are billion dollar brands, but guys and ladies, i have to tell you, this is a challenged company and maybe they really need someone to shake it up. Why is clorox doing so well you have a bid in it. So theres that. 1 to 2 organic growth is what youre seeing across the space in this board. Some are better. Some are better but really, by and large, they are all just meager growers. One month staples are down 3 year to date, up 6 organic sales growth minus one. Trading 21 times for 1 or minus 1 organic growth number and youre not going to get a lot of investors excited about that kind of growth or lack of growth. If the dollar gets weak, this is going to be thats true we dont need this stock. We dont. Peltz could getthem more excited. Possibly. The gentleman has been there 12 to 14 months. Two years does anyone think that that culture, the proctor cincinnati culture is a hinderance . Dont you think nelsons comments about the top people in the know i think theyve brought in a lot of people, though. More than the last ceo did, thats for sure. Jim, can i ask you a simple question, how come the stock is only up 2 1 3 today i think this is not the kind of fullboard blast that i expected there was an element of congeniality here that was extended on our interview this morning. It was not firebrand like dupont where we got people going. So if he came out with a big roar today on live television, the stock would be up more it comes down to that sort of thing in this day and age . If you made a series of things, he didnt. He said, listen, well do a little better and therefore it wasnt radical radical attacks. He was very complementary. Yes, he was. Of david taylor, the person. Hes very good. I respect the cfo. This is a true dilemma tough space, really great company. No one ever got yelled at recommending proctor but then when you look at the shareholder return, they are not in the playoffs, guys. They are not making the playoffs. Leslie, last word this is interesting, what hes not pushing for hes not pushing for a breakup of the company. No. Hes not pushing for an overhaul in fact, hes not even pushing to place the current director on the board. So i think thats why youre not seeing as much of a reaction in the stock price today because hes not really asking for that much he just wants a seat at the table. Though, we will see it, as he said, dont pay so much attention to the skinny white paper that they are going to put out. Right. A big one thats why i think you should be in the stock. I think the dollar is steph, you disagree with me i do. We have kids so i can never recommend can you imagine, hey, i saw you. You mind if i go with marlboro, dad . Well, i did say i liked it. This is a big issue. This is true. Mondoleze, then. Shes doing a great job and shes got ibt nationnternatl exposure. And takeover, if you have to. And some takeover im thinking i like the sort of view behind the kucurtain of what used to take place. We are in so much agreement right now. I know. Yes, we are. Leslie, thank you. Here is what else is coming up on the Halftime Report. Stephanie link says she just bought more for her portfolio. Welcome back to the Halftime Report. Amazon is at a new alltime high up 1 . Price target upgrade, 1200 bucks. Stephanie link, must make you happy. It does make me happy i dont know if theres anything new in this article that i read but the key is prime on the retail side because people who are prime members spend two to three times as much. There are 60 million households today in the United States and only 34 million internationally. Thats where your opportunity is throw on a bit better margins and you still have a great growth story i like it. Throw on the 12 Million People and granted a lot of people might already be prime but a lot of them that arent and that shop at whole foods are probably going to get pounced with prime and things that they like to have delivered to them through amazon and so forth. I think its brilliant i like the way that that moves back and forth across both the highend customers at whole foods and back to prime. The one question that i have, a great name and stephanie, you have been all over this thing. Shes been right thanks. As a value gal and continues to be in there thanks. But the one thing that stands out that makes it interesting to me is Revenue Growth and revenue expansion i tell you what, i think the competition level out there is coming more and more at them and i dont necessarily agree with that part of the story line in terms of this. You are the guy who consistently tells everybody. Yep. Look at apple and the services. Yep yeah and now youre telling us to question the trajectory of growth and competition and heres why. Yes, i am exactly right. They cut prices five times in the last quarter competing against microsoft. How much more are they and obviously knocking ibm out of the box. How much more is that going to compress the aws margin . At least youre not seeing it in the sale. Its not a reason not to own them. Right thats the side i worry about. It was a business, for one, and then youre one has extreme growth and i think that Growth Continues to be at that 20 pace in terms of the services and the bigger they get and the difference here is apple in terms of the services side, that competition isnt quite the same, scott, as this is directly at aws right now whether its microsoft or others out there. First of all, i put on this dress shirt. Nice shirt. Its featured right now im sorry. I know you guys all right using the debate on this side of the table look, ive got a club function this weekend. This looks great im sorry. I can multitask. I totally agree the average price is coming down for risk but this piece was really unique and glossed over i happen to think its a true gem and probably half the price of the stock if its truly about electricity, thats all it is but this prime, i totally agree with stephanie. Prime is huge. When people discover it, they sign up. And you know what, i was with someone this weekend who didnt have it and everyone laughed at that person. Kind of like carrie. Theres no bucket of blood coming down but you dont have it these are some cheap people but still, how can they not have prime . Is there no negative in the future of this story i just beyond the valuation, what takes the stock lower . If he left. And thats really not going to happen is this the most bulletproof stock in the market right now . Theoretically, microsoft could cut the cost of their web services to zero if they wanted to i do think when you see anybody that they mention that they are up against and well talk about that that tells me that this is the company that is the lowcost producer of everything and thats very look, if they were doing and im an amazon household and i always find that we are so not alone. Were a band of brothers stock is up nearly 1 now just because what could possibly i dont know. I expect them to spend quite a bit of money and i think people are bracing themselves for that they have in the past, right . If its a huge amount of money, more incremental dollars being put to work, people are going to care right now we know that they are spending and we can model it out and get margins expanding, earnings expanding, revenues expanding. To the extent that that changes on the investment side of things judge, if youre not in already and or adding to it like steph has, you put your buy between the 9. 27 that it got down to in june and 9. 50 if it gets there, you pull the trigger no matter what else is going on. There is one thing that people are concerned about with this if its too popular, well run out of drivers to take merchandise. Im not kidding. This is a very big issue for them and the whole industry. If thats the case, there could be a window where literally they are so popular. Drones, jimmy drones fedex, ups. I have one later on its a tease. The story surrounding amazon is taking aim at blue apron with a meal at home service they basically said to the syndicate desk, it doesnt matter how you do this we have to make a common stock. And amazon did the whole foods thing. Get it out and get it out now come hell or high water. This is groupon they had to get it done. This was a desperate gamut. And new customer has to be 300 at blue apron ill come make a meal at your place for that. If amazon pays pennies to get in front of the millions of more eyeballs than these guys and ears, than these guys do, how do they not crush everybody and whole foods had a target and do you remember a worse debut . Ryan leaf may have had a bad one. I dont know about a publicly traded company i cant think of one off the top of my head its cratered like this. At no point is this stock worth a buy. Stocks stop at zero thats one thing you missed. Look, at a certain point, remember grub hub was supposed to be destroyed. Maybe these guys have Something Else cooking that we dont know. Square wassing th was something that they hated. Blue apron, if they got Something Else but if they dont, wow its been a remarkable fall in a short period of time. Stocks down more than 10 . Sue herera has the latest headlines for us now i sure do, scott. Michelle, thank you p g is responding to the latest comments that nelson peltz made exclusively on cnbc one of the headlines is that they say, jim, that trian hasnt produced any new actionable ideas. What do you think about this initial thing of what was a cordial sort of thing, at least it seemed. This is about what nelson feels about the culture and that it has to change and a lot of times when he comes on he does say im a different set of eyes. Why not put me on ive got some ideas from left field that could really help you. So i dont think this is so much of a friendliness in here but how could you not want me . Ive got some ideas and we didnt just come with a white paper and blindside you but now we will. They are defending the board, as you may expect, but this could get ramped up quicker. What have you got . Judge, one of the best performing stocks out there this year, even up there with amazon, take a look at that run from january around 78, 79 bucks today. 96 they came in with earnings thursday this week im not looking at the weekly options, judge they were buying all the way out to september september, 97. 50 something tells me that they are going to have a good report and continue a surge through the summer thats for visa. So what did i do i bought those calls and sold a strike above them and im at a call spread. Ill probably be in it not through just this week since its september options, i might extend it well into august, judge. Let me get a quick comment from the guest on visa. Yes al kelly, who is fabulous, a tremendous hand and then al kelly augmented it this is one of the great stocks of all time. Stephanie, i know youre going to agree with me this is a monster. Its expensive for what youre getting i prefer american express. I think charlie is so great no. Heres one of the toughest things ever. So mastercard and visa are so unbelievably good and they go out and they are so much better than everybody else. I feel bad but this is like yankees, okay, and national and america. Lets say there is a switch but jim yes. Take a look at this the reason i like it is this stocks are 96 bucks. I love the idea of buying basically at the money call for around 2. I mean, when you can buy an at the money call for 2 on a 96 stock, sell a call up here against it, i think you really move the odds into your favor. I agree with your assessment why is it so cheap . Why yes. Because the stock runs 24 and the century mark is as high as it goes in the short term. When i was a young broker, i went in to see the wealthiest people in the world and i was so right so often. Pete, have what you got pulte homes was part of your tease. The activity we saw today a month ago we were talking about alcoa. They were buying calls they bought these july calls very aggressively. Now today they are rolling up from the august 32 calls and buying august 38 calls they sold for huge profits and rolled up 10,000, paying about a dollar for the august 38 calls really aggressive paper coming into this space. I know stephanie likes the materials as well. Weve been seeing more paper each and every week. I like that i like that. That fits with our freeport thesis. Much better run than it used to be. Can netflix live up to the streets expectations. Btig analyst rich greenfield joins us welcome back. Thanks for having me. Your expectations are high. Do they get met tonight . You know, look, the content this quarter has been pretty incredible and netflix historically has been very much tied to the quality and quantity of its product cycle so, you know, we really are a believer that if consumers continue to embrace the content on netflix, churn goes down, gross ads go up and that makes for a very attractive story. I will tell you both though, when you think about whats happened over the last few months, i think fears about legacy media, about courd cuttig have certainly accelerated and we think most investors expect to see continuing acceleration and cord cutting and shaving trends all of that bodes very well for more and more consumers adopting netflix. I mean, look, thats been sort of a personal crusade if you will of yours. I mean, youve been tweeting and putting out repeatedly negative notes about Traditional Television and cord cutting, et cetera in part it plays into the story that you want to tell on netflix. But how much is priced in . How much good news is priced into a stock thats up as much as i said it was going look, i think the question is, if you look at our expectations this year, we have domestic subscribers of 4. 6 million. This is for the full year. I think the quarterly, people are not going to care as much about the quarterly, assuming its not terribly far out of line its going to be more about what the guidance and expectations are for q 3 and even the telltale signs for how the rest of the year plays out. Were assuming a relatively continuing domestic year and the same thing internationally with a little over 14 million ads they did over 14 million last year so i think investors have to continue to believe that they cannot only meetexpectations but that this growth can continue i think thats the key the reason the stock has moved so much this year is that theyre going to be able to do essentially as many ads if not more than last year. That was not the expectation six or nine months ago people really thought there was going to be a big deceleration. Im going to read a quote from david id horns most recent note in his quarterly letter in which he groups netflix in what he calls part of a bubble basket of stocks. He says, and im quoting from the letter, the companys key metrics are all deteriorating and Customer Acquisition costs are higher yet the stock ended the quarter up 1 . Cash investment and content is now more than 100 of revenues and the company is growing its content spent per customer faster than it is growing revenue per customer is that a problem . Are people blind to those risks, and what changes the story well look, the good thing about netflix that makes it so much fun from an analyst standpoint to cover is that theres never been a stock that ive looked at thats been so controversial with heated bulls and heated bears on the stock. I think the question is really, everyone is looking at the company who doesnt look the stock looks at it from a today standpoint obviously theyre making some pretty tremendous investments. I mean, theres a wide array of content theyre creating for japan, germany and india and across the globe if you look on a financial basis, a snapshot in time today, you can look pretty unattractive if you realize that theyre actually making significant money in the u. S. But choosing proactively to invest for the future in their global expans n expansion, thats where you get really excited about the potential. Youve crossed the 100 Million Subscriber mark over the past quarter. Theres no reason why this company cant beat multiples over time given the global interest in their content. Its really a question of do you agree with their view that theyre going to conquer the world or do you believe that their investment overseas is fooli foolish. Thats really what it comes down to in terms of the bull or the bear obviously weve been blooefrelis more and more investors are believing in that global story you look at the challenges facing the legacy bundle weve started the hashtag good luck bundle. You look at that and it seems like theres increasingly good runway for consumers to adopt netflix as their video view viewing experience and ill tell you, when you look i want to get cramer in here. Sto sorry to interrupt you. 69 billion company isnt that way too small when you think about great content companies, theres a huge potential in terms of how you can leverage this content around the globe this has tremendous runway ahead of it if they continue to do the one most important thing which is execute on making great content. Rich, thanks for the time appreciate it. Thanks. Just a quick sort of commentary from you guys he wants you to believe in the big picture. At least talking about the short for an awful lot, judge. Since 1 25 or thereabouts. Its 166 this year that note from february is there no time that the spend will matter . There is a time. If the signups good. If you justify it for the long term growth overseas, its all good. If their churn numbers explode, their stock will explode or implode. Its on them.
