Hospitalizations are also climbing nationwide, as are the percentages of people testing positive. Despite this, the president is describing a rosy state of play that simply doesnt exist. Well beat this virus and well eradicate this pest lens and all of the things that happened to our country, our lives and our planet, our aggressive and early action saved up to 2 million lives. If you look at the original numbers, it was projected to 2. 3 million lives. Were at 210,000. We have reduced the fatality rate 85 since april. Projected 2. 2 million if the country did absolutely nothing. And as President Trump delivers this false picture of the pandemic in america, he along with senior white house officials are embracing the controversial theory of herd immunity, which is essential doing nothing. In short, this is a proposal to let this fatal virus spread naturally across the country until the majority of americans have been ineffected. Its wildly controversial, widely disputed, and deemed, quote, deadly and unethical, and mass murder by health experts. Yet the president openly pushes it in front of thousands of his supporters. Who hashood it here . A lot of people. Youre the people i want to say hello to, because right now you are immuned. Doctor pernell, theres a recent study showing only 10 of americans have been infected. This is far fewer than would need to be infected in order for there to be protections in numbers, right . This has brought with it more than 200,000 deaths, ten percent, 200,000 dead. What would it take to achieve herd immunity in the u. S. . Brianna, its just not fat m fathomable. Were talking about 60 to 80 of the population having been exposed or infected with coronavirus. We see the same mortality rates, that could be 2 million americans dead. Thats just not something we can tolerate. We have over 215,000 americans dead, and that toole has been staggering. To soup or to even estimate or to figure out whether or not herd immunity is a viability solution is a nonstarter for all of us in the Public Health community. The World Health Organization announced the most is happens in person to person under the same roof. With that in mind, how do we protect ourselves . I know were getting tired. Were beleaguered. We have pandemic fatigue, but we have to button down. When i say we have to budden down, we have to do stable Public Health measures and protection guidelines that keep us safe. We have to wear or maur mask. And to avoid kroyed spaces. We should be washing our hands. We should not be going to events that are indoors and cramped. We just have to keep our emotional and mental wits about us. Theres this new investigation in idaho, that reveals that students are on purpose contracting covid19 to sell their plasma that would have antibodies in it for a profit. What would your message be to people who are considering this. Simple do not do it. Just stop. Thats reckless behavior. I was talking to a friend earlier this week who lost her husband, who was a police officers, to coronavirus. That level of grief, that level of pain, no one should willfully risk that. Im let to question, what is it in the culture, the broader culture that allows people to entertain such reckless behavior. Thats why i said previously the president is a threat to Public Health. Im just really concerned. Im concerned whether or not the public truly trusts when Public Health guidelines come out. We have to do all we can to emphasize, this is no laughing matter. This is something we have to do we know works. Doctor, thank you so much for being with us again. Thank you. Tomorrow night was supposed to be the second president iale debate, but the president s covid19 diagnosis scrapped that plan, spark ago messy debate over a virtual forum. He refused to do it virtually. That led to the cancellation of the debate. Now we will see both on primetime on thursday, on separate channels. They will be joining dueling network town has. With me is our brian stelter, anchor of reliable sources and gloria borger. This was decided by an independence commission. Is nbc rewarding trump for refusing to debate by not only holding this, but holding it at the same time that biden has a similar event. The biden town hall was scheduled first, the time slot was scheduled last sunday, nbc was in talks with the campaign all up to this morning when they announced the town hall with the president. The president probably thinking hell win this ratings war, but this is a bad looks for nbc. But nbc said its all about parity. All right brown has had some entertainment stars speaking out against the network. I see no indication that nbc or abc will reschedule. With he know when it comes to the debates, the moderators are not supposed to fact check. We see more often in these events, an anchor may weigh in more. youre measures and weighing the pros and cons of this, what do you think about this whole matchup . First of all, in a town hall, particularly this close to an election, i think its final for a moderator to ask followup questions. I think thats what they do, and also times theyre clarifying and informative. And all of this goes back to donald trump, because he should have participated in a virtual debate. That would have been just fine. He wasnt going to be talking into his computer, as he said. He would be talking into a camera just like im talking to you with probably a really good big screen in front of him. I think what we should have, if you want to do it separately. Do one in one hour, one in the next. Figure it out so the people can see both. Its really very sad you arent going to be able to see them both participate together, but we ought to try to do that as close as we possibly can, but again, this is Donald Trumps fault. It seems like a petty rivalry, also. Trump has talked a lot to fox, but hasnt actually been viewed by any real interviewer since coming down with the coronavirus. So it is a big moment. A follow upfact check, i think thats something we may see more in town has than debates. If trump or biden says something thats wrong, maybe the moderator in a town hall format can say its my understanding x, y and z, but the role is really not so much as a fact checker as i think it is to just get the information out there in real time. Thank you both. I want to ask you about another trump effort to dig up dirt, and this is one that involves his claims about Obama Administration officials requesting the identities of redacted names, the socalled unmasking, actually a common and legal practice. Here is how trump and fox peddle this conspiracy for years. The Obama Campaign spied on our campaign, and theyve been call, all right . Now lets see what happens to them. Its probably treason. Obamagate, its been going on for aist a massive thing. Who can believe a thing lie this. This was all obama. This was all biden. The whole thing was corrupt, and we caught them. You lead to classified document identitying more than a doesnt officials, and at the top of that list former Vice President joe biden. Joe unmasked flynn himself. Biden might want to start thinking about getting his story straight, if hes capable. Michael flynn is not a dangerous criminal. If he was, he would be working to free him from jail. No, they wanted flynn crushed purely because he happened to be in the way of the power they seek. The Washington Post says the Justice Department found no evidence of wrongdoing. They didnt even produce a public report. Gloria, of course, you know, weve seen stuff like this before. Whether its a voter commission, or something to do with jim comey or the clinton organization, nothing is found, yet. It doesnt mean damage hasnt been done. Its not going away. The president today in a Television Interview kept say its ridiculous, i think its a disgrace, he thinking there should have been indictments. Hes talking about this issue and also another report investigating the Obama Administration. I cannot emphasize enough what these people were doing was doing their job, reading intelligence information. In order to understand it, many times it happens thousands of times a year you need to figure out the name of the person who was having the conversation about, say, the russian ambassador, or with the russian ambassador. What you do with that very high level is you unmask the name. Then you understand the intelligence. I dont understand what the president is talking about here. These people are doing their jobs. That is why there were no indictments. My question is, why seven this report made public. Brian, you wrote a whole book about this, the way trump and fox distorts the truth. This is their strategy, repeat, repeat, make it stick. This is why its so hard to speak to our friends and family members, because trump creates this fantasylanding, where youre told to stay tuned, stay mad, where stories become scandalized both by the opinion talk show hosts and news programs as well. Theyre mole hills turned into mountains, and what ends up happening is they followups get buried. I wish fox viewers would ever look around and say, whatever happened to that unmasking . What happens is theres a new invex or scandal. Its on to the next scandal. Stay tuned and stay mad. There were real journalists at fox. Some have left because of this nonsense. The ones there, they are disgusted by the behavior of the protrump colleagues, but sadly they dont have the power. Its the unmasking propagandists who have the power. Thank you to both of us. President trump recently claimed seniors are his favorite people, but know he appears to be mocking them and joe biden in a tweet. And a final day of questioning. Were going to discuss the answers, or really a lauck of them. And how your blood type can impact how kick you might get from covid 19. Into a smaller life . Tell your doctor if you have a parasitic infection, or your asthma worsens. Headache and sore throat may occur. Could you be living a bigger life . Ask an asthma specialist about fasenra. The Trump Campaign was trying to win over senior voters this week, the president sending this message from the white house lawn. To my favorite people in the world, the seniors im a senior. I know you dont know that. Nobody knows that, maybe you dont have to tell them, but im a senior. Were taking care of our seniors. Youre not vulnerable, but think like to say tyoure vulnerable. Youre the least vulnerable, but for this one, youre vulnerable. Youll get it free, no charge, and well get it to you soon. He did no favors with that democr demographic when he suggested biden should be admitted to a nursing home. With me is jeff johnson. You know, i wonder what is your reacto the president s tweet to make it fun of a candidate by associating him with elderly people. Im not going to react to a take already tweet, but i would say that i think campaigns on both sides of the aisle need to Pay Attention to the fact that 60 of those who cast a ballot in florida elections or more, are 50 and over, so their issuing need to be top of mind. At the president ial level, and at every level beknead it. Look, we have two candidates. Theyre both senior citizens, right . Theyre both up in years. This isnt something you have normally seen in recent decades. How does i guess, how does rhetoric about the elderly play with older voters . I think, of course, the older electoral is a very diverse demographic, so it crosses party lines. I think what brings them all together is a real interest in what the candidates want to say to them about Social Security and about the coronavirus and how we as a nation are going to respond. What do they want to know . What are the things you are hearing from older constituents who have concerned about coronavirus virus. For instance, were hearing the president made promises about a covid treatment. We are seeing two candidates trying to pitch they are the once to trust. What are the older voters saying . Theyre saying they very much want to hear what both candidates have to say, so from the beginning, the most consist arent that they have put out has been the 65plus demographic is uniquely susceptible to the worst this disease brings. So how do we protect those most at risk . So whether they are winning to President Trump or former Vice President biden they want to hear, what is the plan . As well as what are the longterm plans, and how does that get their lives back to a semblance. What they have seen before. The impact especially, while the state of florida has done a lot of things well in responding to that virus. At the same time it continues to be that 40 of those who died in florida have been residents or staff in longterm care facilities. Thats a small part of our population. So theres ensure that this doesnt happen again while also helping the community as a whole get past this pandemic. Jeff. I know you wont comment on the tweet, but just a practice, a general practice of making fun of elderly americans, is that smart politicians . I think generally speak you would expect all candidates would be reaching out. This is an electoral led by the 50plus voter. Jeff johnson with the aarp in florida, we really appreciate it. Theres another member of Congress Just announcing he tested positive. House republican Bill Huizenga that he got the results right before he was to appear with Vice President pence in michigan. And what House Speaker nancy pelosi refused to answer in a contentious interview with our wolf blitzer. Hey allergy muddlers. Achoo . Do your sneezes turn heads . Try zyrtec. It starts working hard at hour one. And works twice as hard when you take it again the next day. Zyrtec muddle no more. President Trumps Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett is facing the Senate Judiciary committee for her third day of confirmation hearings. Yesterday she gave a master class in the art of the dodge as she faced classes for 11 houses with no prepared notes. As often goes in these types of hearings, because there is a bit of a formula, barrett declined to answer substantive questions, short minimal answers. Thats not a questionic answer, which is a contentious issue, which i know is comforting to have an answer, but i cant express views on cases or precommit to approach a case any particular way. Im a sitting judge. Because you cant answer questions without going through the judicial process, cant give answers to those very specific case cases. Joining me now is kim whaley. You quo a piece in politico after the first day and you said she wasnt consistent. Tell us what you meant by that. Shes hiding behind this not of the judicial canon that prevents her from speaking on cases. Certainly if a judge has a case before them, its improper to weigh in one way or the other, because they might be biased. But hear we heard her talk about the second amendment, and she said that establishment clause, first needs to be restructured or reordered the she has weighed in on certainly things, so the notion that she cant say, for example, in response to senator klobuchars question as to whether voter intimidation at the polls is okay when theres a federal criminal law precluding that, or whether she could say whether its okay for the president to not facilitate a peaceful transfer of power, when the constitution makes him no longer president , that to me is just intellectually frankly not honest. Its unfortunate how given genuinely afraid millions of americans are aid fray about disappointment, that she couldnt make the decision, im going to show myself as a fairminded person because shes going to be on the United StatesSupreme Court. I dont think theres any question about that. I think sometimes when you look at this look, ive covered a number of Supreme Court nominations now, and you kind of get used to this, but theres a lot of people who are watching this with interest, and they say doesnt this need to changes . This seems to be the only job in america where you wont tell your prospective boss how you would do the job. Well, again, it doesnt make a lot of sense. I think shes getting grilled legitimately on a she said, listen, he stretched the meaning of that statute beyond what was fair, or im paraphrasing. By her rationale, you would think she could then not ever rule on any relating, because she did make a comment. Why she could make that comment that pointed, and that wouldnt somehow disqualify her from ruling, but now in the confirmation hearing she could make generic comments . It just doesnt hold tole. This isnt just with judge coney barrett, its sort of i talk about this, it dew points the American People into thinking there are good judges and bad judges, and that somehow shes a good judge, because she pledges to stay within the rule of law. Every single judge makes decisions. They judge. Judges judge. She will bring her personal political ideological buiases t that job. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a Heated Exchange as pressure grows for a feel on coronavirus relief. Is that what this is all about, not allow the president to take credit if theres a deal to no, i dont care about that. Hes not that important, but let me say this, with all due respect, with all due respect, and you know weve known each other a long time, you really dont know what youre talking about. Hear her response to fellow democrats who say americans struggling to make rent or feed their families cant wait any longer. Tonight. Ill be eating chicken tikka masala with garlic naan. [doorbell chimes] cheers. I win again, patrick. Thats siiir patrick. Oooooow. Sir. Wean air force veteran made of doing whats right,. Not whats easy. So when a hailstorm hit, usaa reached out before he could even inspect the damage. Thats how you do it right. Usaa insurance is made just the way martins family needs it with hasslefree claims, he got paid before his neighbor even got started. Because doing right by our members, thats whats right. Usaa. What youre made of, were made for. Usaa this just in. S. E. C. Fans will have to wait for the matchup between the gators and lsu tigers. The Southeastern Conference has Just Announced the game scheduled for saturday is being postponed. This is one day after the university of florida announced 19 players have tested positive. This coming after head coach dan mullen called for a packed stadium. A familiar scene is playing out now in washington. Republicans and democrats pointing fingers at one another over stimulus negotiations, as americans struggle and they wait, the department of labor estimates that 26 million americans are collecting unemployment. . Many people are scrambling, for those who still have a job, layoffs could be looming, as Industries Like travel, entertainment and hospitality are forced to adjustment. Already some 40,000 workers versus laid off from the nations airlines here in recent weeks. This morning nancy pelosi and Steven Mnuchin held a discussion on the stimulus negotiation. Mnuchin says moments ago the two sides are still far apart, this a day after nancy pelosi urged her colleagues to reject trumps proposal, saying an agreement cant be reach by just folding to the president s demands. She defended her decision during this exchange with our colleague wolf blitzer. Members of your own caulk with us want to accept this deal. Wait a minute, wait a second. A man you know well, i assume you admire him. He just said this people in need cant wait until february, 1. 8 trillion is significant more than twice the what do you say to rho khanna. To you, i dont know why youre always an apologist for the republican position. Rho khanna, thats nice, and no is waiting arent februa ining. The president just tweeted go big or go home. Thats right. So why not work on a deal with him and dont let the perfect by the enemy of the good, as they say in jacket . I will not let the wrong be the enemy of the right. You know what . Do you have any idea between the spending they have in their bill and they have in our bill . Do you realize they have come back and said all these things for child tax credits and earned income tax credits, helping people who have lost their jobs are eliminated in their bill . Yesterday, i spoke to andrew yang who said the same thing. Honest to god, i cant get over it andrew and rho are lovely. They are not negotiating this situation. They have no idea of the particulars. Chris cillizza is a political writer, and in a piece for cnn. Com, you said the speakers reaction is over the top. Even if wolf blitzer wasnt our colleague, none of the questions he was asking are any close to unfair, or nancy pelosi words apologist. Theres a 1. 8 trillion offer on the table. We know as you ran through the statistics, we know there are millions of americans hurting out there because of the coronavirus and the massive impact. Thats not to say the republicans dont have a role in this. Of course they do. Donald trump a week ago tweeted he said to Steve Mnuchin to stop negotiating. This is not that republicans are blameless in this. Thats not what wolf was saying, but Nancy Pelosis responsibility is to look out not for speaker of the house, but shes third in line to the presidency. It is important when that is your job, to say, is the perfect getting in the way of the good . Its a compromise. Its a deal. Of course you dont get everything you want. Yes the election is coming up, but look at the people who are hurting. We know that 1. 8 trillion is a heck of a lot more than nothing, you know, taking out frustrations voiced within her own party about her and the deal on wolf seemed to me to be less than, i think, a standard that she usually holds, which is extremely high. I think shes an incredibly bright gifted strategist, legislator. Shes obviously already written her name into the history as the first female speaker of the house, backup given that standard, i felt as though she was beneath it. She is feeling pressure from folks in her own caucus. They shes saying theyre not looking at the details of what is lost in this bargain. That seems to me to be firmer ground to be o. But i also wonder at a certain point you know, i think of how many times we have covered legislation that has passed in congress and theres always stuff in it that, you know, one side doesnt want. Always. You also know theres bargaining to try to get it more to look like what they want. So what is this pressure shes facing . I agree with you on that single point. Its hard to look andrew yang thinking there should be a deal, but he doesnt know the particulars. Fine. At the same time, you know, youre never going to get something this large, you will not get anything you want. Republicans control the white house, democrats control the house. Nobody gets everything they said. Thats just the way it works. Is there a Common Ground . Wolf asked, have you spoken to the president at all about this, and she said i dont talk to the president like, again, donald trump has had a number of extremely nasty things about nancy pelosi. I get that, but were not talking about personalities here. Were talking about millions of people struggling just to pay the rent to keep their Small Business afloat. Thats what gets lost sometimes in the personality conflicts. Thats what i think she focused too much on. You know, win or lose for donald trump in this election, he is still president for the coming months, so the sit is what it is going to be for at least months longer. So well be watching this, obviously to see how it shapes up. A lot of people need help. Chris cillizza, thank you so much. If yould like to help, join me and vote yes on prop 15. New Research Shows your blood type may be linked to your coronavirus risk. Cnn Health ReporterJacqueline Howard is following the story. Tell us what these studies are finding about blood type, jacqueline. Yeah, brianna, this is some new and emerging research thats kind of adding to our understanding of the link between a possible link, i should say, between your blood type and covid19 risk. Heres what the studies found. In the first study when it comes to success sepsceptability, 38. Tested positive for covid19 were blood type o, and 42 made up the population in the study. And of incredibly ill covid19 patients in canada, 84 of those patients are blood types a or ab. Excuse me, 84 of those with blood types a or ab needed mechanical ventilation, where 61 of blood types o or b did. Also in that study, brianna, patients with blood types a or ab were in the icu for about four days longer than those with blood types o or b. So you see there is a connection there, but more research is needed to really take a deep look at what this connection could really mean for us. Back to you, brianna. So interesting, definitely looking forward to more research on that. Jacqueline, thank you. Cnns chloe milas is following this for us. Demi lovato is calling out President Trump in her new song for what she says is his miss handling of social justice and the pandemic. Commander in chief honestly if i did the things you do i couldnt sleep. Its very important for me that i get to use my platform for something much bigger than singing. Theres been so many times where ive wanted to write the president a letter or sit down with him and ask him these questions, and then i thought, well, i dont really actually want to do that, and i think one way that i could do that is writing a song and releasing it to the whole world to hear and then he has to answer those questions to everybody and not just me. Lovato, who has over 150 million fans on social media, says shes not looking for the song to divide the nation. Shes actually hoping it encourages her fans to vote in the next election. How does it feel we have to show up and vote because its so important that our voices are heard, you know. And, honestly, for me, whether you are a republican or democrat, just get out and vote. Our special coverage continues now with jake tapper. Announcer this is cnn breaking news. Welcome to the lead. Im jake tapper. We begin today with the national lead, and an alarming rise of new coronavirus cases across the United States. There is not one state currently headed in the right direction, and for the first time in two months, the nation is averaging in excess of 50,000 cases every single day. However, President Trump lies to the voters about the u. S. Turning the corner to this pandemic, but the facts tragically speak for themselves. Hospitalizations are growing in 33 states. This is the largest number of people
