To me one of the most significant things in all of this is how he is undermining the fbi and the fbi and the Intelligence Community. And attorney general william barr. Hes undermining, consistently undermining them, knowing full well they have a different view of this. These are people investigating whether of this. The reason its important is because in 2017 they established a task force set up to combat foreign influence. So he went after their onedate saying thats not illegal. And the other thing relates to the fbi director undercutting the very person there to protect this country from foreign counterintelligence threats. If youre the fbi director there tr two options for you essentially. You can step up and speak to up and say this is wrong. I think doing so will help insure the public takes these allegations seriously. This comes down to Public Confidence in the institutions. If theyre quiet, hes signaling this isnt a big deal and to the public its not a big deal. The other option is to pack your bags. If youre in a jock where something has happened thats so egregious, thats an option is to leave, resign on principal. I dont think staying quiet right now is an option for this president. For this fbi director taz relates to this president. I want your view here. This comes down to basic civics to me. The president is the head of the executive branch of government. Their role is to enforce the law. You know there are laws on the books, you know you heard from special Counsel Robert Mueller who began his very short statement and ended the same way that there is a real concern about russian interference unour elections. States like florida and their governor have been alerted that there were attempts to interfere in their individual counties in their report. And explain later on. The president at one hand talks about in the Intelligence Community as being that, intelligent, as being able to convey american concerns. And preempt things like this. And when he undermines their objects, its challenging to understand his motivation. Is it a parent trying to protect his son. Is it him trying to double down . Or he fails to understand the very basic civics lesson which is your job is to enforce the law, not grease the wheels to make things illegal somehow okay. You know, michael, you have this directive from the president. President trump to investigating the investigators. Where does this all come from . This is him now owning the intelligence agencies. So hes now told the people that work with at the cia youre vulnerable to the president s whims. We understand that and the president requires people to hand over their, lets say, dignity to him. And some have done that. Rod rosenstein did that. Hes lost his dignity, his esteem in the eyes of the world by toting up to the president and doing his bidding. But others like james mattis did not. These are people who left rather than be amaskerated by the president. So this is a setting up i think a series of crisis, not only in his conflicts of congress but now within the administration there are people who should be independent minded and who we arent anymore. And we cant count count on to have the integrity that would defend us from a president out of control and this is fast becoming a presidency out of control. You mentioned the cia tonight. I want to talk to you about that. You know this report in the New York Times he mentioned. The Justice Department is now questioning cia officers as they reviewed this russia investigation. Which is troubling. Its troubling because its not you dont do this. The cia operates in their own world. And for the department of justice to start begin questioning cia agents, people who work there, questioning their work. Analysts. You know for me i think what all this comes down to is former cia director, john brennan. I know the president has been very unhappy with the way john brennan has behaved since he left office. I think it goes backing to that. Hes very concerned about the information and how some of the information the cia had really may not have been stood up. They couldnt verify a lot of the information. And certainly john brennan was sounding a lot of alarms to congress saying somethings going to on here. I know he was talking to people that fbi here. Concerned something was going on. But what were seeing from the attorney general right now is that hes saying they with were acting on a lot of information. That hes concerned was not verified. There was no there there. And perhaps they were over reacting and therefore caused other people to start reacting like the fbi and so its very this is were in an extremely unprecedented time in terms of when you have department of justice officials now, cia and, analysts. The fbi, Inspector General and doing its own review. Thats being done separately. This is really an unprecedented thing. The times, the Justice Department reviewed anxiety as in the ranks. I think that, you know, we all know this case was a mischaracterization of justice. Its been talked about for years. Donald trump took out full page ads calling for the death penalty. These people have not suffered the consequences. And thrived. Shes a bestselling author for her work in this case. These are the consequences of the actions. Shes had to resign from boards and step down from these, im sure. These are the consequences. She was a prosecutor. We should make the people aware of this. This episode was inspired, i should say, by the flint water crisis and as you started looking into it you found toxic communities like flint all over. Lets look at a clip and then well talk. People dont vote to get poisoned. Usually it happens to them and it happens in a way that people find out later. After they have a kid with asthma or after a kid has a learning disability and cant figure out where its coming from. We say thats cruel, unfair and unjust and it should be illegal. You can find adjacent zip codes and have a Life Expectancy of 10, 15 years, whats in the neighborhood and whats not. Just by your zip code. Breaking it all the way down. This is all manmade disasters, as we talk about in the show. Its easy to fix this stuff. Its easy to fix flint and fix lead poisoning but people in power wont do it. Its expedient and cheaper not to do it. You spent time with families whose children are suffering from lead poisoning because of the toxic neighborhoods they live in. Often they didnt know it until their kids were already sick. What are their lives like . Youre talking about, especially in philly, theres buildings still painted with lead paint, theres schools, peoples houses and people dont know it and theres sort defendant insidious thing about lead paint is that its sweet and so kids will eat it. If you dont know your house had it and kids are eating and you dont know, you decide well, my kid is not learning at the rate other kids are, and if you decide to get your kid tested for lead poisoning you can find out sometimes your kid could have ingested so much lead its hard to catch up. Theyll be developmentally delayed. Its based on income. People in poor neighborhoods cant afford the services to help their kids catch up.
