The governor, gavin newsom, spoke in a press conference about loosening restrictions on certain businesses. They include some retailers with Curbside Pickup and delivery options. Delivery services where employees can social distances. Many other businesses must still stay closed. The states governor says thats because the danger is still out there. Let me be specific now to nail salons. This whole thing started in the state of california, the First Community spread, in a nail salon. I want to remind you, remind everybody of that. Although california is slowly reopening, there is a battle going on between the state and local counties between how to go about it. Some less hard hit areas are facing the same regulations as to where the outbreak is severe. One size does not fit all as dan simon explains. They have reported only 50 positive cases of the virus. The leaders decided it was safe for some businesses to reopen in defiance of newsoms stay at home orders. Reporter the Antibody Test that can tell if someone has covid19 without symptoms has been so important President Trump last month announced the test would be a major Decision Maker in getting america back to work. Were also working to bring bloodbased serology tests to the market as quickly as possible so americans can determine whether or not theyve already had the virus and potentially have immunity. Reporter but as millions of Antibody Tests are being shipped across the country, a cnn Analysis Finds theres no coordinated responses. The Antibody Testing process has been confusing, a mix of false starts, changing rules and no coherent plan for all the states to report results. The way it usually works is that data is fed into the various state Health Departments, then the state Health Departments will often funnel information to the cdc. Reporter but many states arent collecting any Antibody Testing data. Of the 41 Health Departments that responded, only 22 states said theyre currently collecting some data on Antibody Testing and only california, new york, louisiana said they require it. One of the problems has been that the a lot of the tests that have been given temporary authorization turn out to be not that accurate. Reporter as cnn has reported, in the rush to jump start the Antibody Testing, in march Antibody Tests were sold without review. Many inaccurate tests flooded the market. This week the fda reversed the policy now requiring test makers to prove that they work like they should but the damage was already done. Oregons Health Department said Antibody Testing data are of dubious reliability. Vermont says theyre not Accurate Enough for public planning. There are a couple of reasons we want to know why people have had the virus. The first is to figure out where we are on the epidemic curve. Reporter the cdc is only collecting data from some states, but its also doing whats called sero prevalent blood testing. Its looking for antibodies in the blood sample. Now the real number of people affected with covid is unknown. Saying 1. 2 Million People affected is almost certainly a vast under estimate.
