How does this cycle of violence stop in we are live in jerusalem. Now we understand israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with the father of the teen who was killed. What can you tell us about the conversation . Thats right. He spoke to him this morning, christine, offering his condolences for the death of his 16yearold son, mohammad who was abducted last week and whose charred remains were found outside jerusalem causing huge classes, bigger than any we have seen here really in around a decade. In that conversation, Benjamin Netanyahu said, i quote one line, we denounce brutal behavior. It cannot be by a human being. The line he is trying to impress is that he will respond with the same, you know, degree of justice against those who killed this palestinian teenager against those who killed the three israeli teenagers who went missing last month whom has been a huge sweep across the west bank to try to find their bodies. Clearly, both sides in this conflict, palestinian and israeli leadership are trying to keep a lid on the anger that we have seen over the last few days in response to mohammads killing. But you mentioned his cousin who was here on Summer Vacation to visit the family. Summer vacation turned into a horror story when his cousin was abducted. The next day, in protests outside the family home, he appears to have been caught up in it somehow. He says he wasnt throwing stones. Taken aside by Israeli Police and brutally beaten as you can see from the cell phone footage. Badly beaten by police with his hands tied behind his back. The israelis conducted a criminal investigation. U. S. Wants a full explanation of this use of force. On house arrest. Any sense of when hell be allowed to return home to the United States . Not yet. His family is going by the end of the month. Clearly the u. S. State department wants it to happen as soon as possible. There arent charges being brought yet. The israelis are conducting a criminal investigation. The charges, we are not quite clear. It will probably be sooner, rather than later because of the u. S. State department. Thank you so much for that. Lets shift to iraq where a new video surfaced showing the leader of isis. The tape shows a man conducting prayers in mosul on friday out in the wide open. This surfaced on social media sites tied to isis. It would be one of the first videos. Arwa damon is live in baghdad with more. What can you tell us about this video . Reporter well, the video was clearly shot at a mosque inside mosul, a bold and brazen move by the leader of isis. In the video that was initially circulated by an official isis circular she is now known to his followers since isis declared this socalled Islamic State all the way to syria. He is arguably the worlds most wanted terrorist and felt confident enough about the territory who had to go through to arrive there to make this kind of appearance. We spoke to an eyewitness who said they had no idea he was going to show up. Four to five minutes before the sermon was due to start, they saw black tinted vehicles, suvs driving up, people chanting, gunmen arriving along with a man. He began his sermon urging his followers to jihad emphasizing during the month of ramadan is when they need to uphold this jihad against the unbelievers. Whether the killing of those three israelis followed by the murder here in jerusalem could lead to a further resurgence of violence in this region. All it would take is for one of those rockets coming over from gaza to cause israeli casualties for this escalation, possibly to escalate more. Both sides are calling for restranr restrangts. In defensive positions according to the israelis is to deescalate the situation. You can see from the clashes that took place in East Jerusalem and last week after mohammads death, tensions are very high. They will attend the morning mass before a sitdown with the pope. Is the meeting coming too late . Some say yes, far too late. We are in rome with more on that. Is this a pope who is opening up and trying to heal these sex Abuse Victims or is it just a reminder that this church has been very late in coming to grips with this . Well, its interesting, christine because this pope has been much praised for many things. But this is the one area where he has been criticized. Hes been criticized because he met earlier with sex Abuse Victims. We are 14 months into it and this is the first time pope francis is meeting with them. Hes been criticized because he thinks the church has been unfairly attacked. This is an important meeting not only for the victims but for the pope himself. Its a meeting he announced on the papal plane in may. At that time, he said boston cardinal, shoun o mally was helping to organize the meeting. Hes one of the members of a new Commission Pope Francis instituted for the protection of minors to advise him on best practices for sex abuse. This is important because its the first time we have a commission for the pope made up. Theres eight people on it, four of them are women. One of the women from ireland is, herself, a sex abuse survivor. This has been instrumental in helping the pope arrange this mornings meeting. They are present at the meeting. The hope is the victims will be able to be heard in their journey on healing and that the pope himself will be able to hear firsthand some of the stories, to allow him to publicly reiterate his commitment to zero tolerance. Christine . What about the internal politics behind this . You talk about the fact that some feel as though the church has been unfairly targeted, you know, for the child sex scandal there or abuse scandal. Whats happening what are the cardinals telling him . Reporter well, whats happening now is what has been happening for the past ten years since this came to light. That is continual effort to establish norms and protocols to keep all of the diocese around the world. This is an international issue, on the same page. So, what began with Pope Benedict and the Catholic Church in the United States, establishing the norm that is become a standard or all the diocese and all the cardinals are on board with that. The question is enforcing it. Thats why a lot of victims groups talk about accountability. Bishops accountability even for the people not directly held responsible but may have not handled the cases properly. That is what they are working on now, trying to get accountability for the bishops. The pope is in favor of that. Thank you. Reaction to the meeting in the u. S. Is mixed. Its hopeful it will be a step toward reform or is it a hurtful stunt . We have that from chicago. No one i spoke to questions whether hearing from victims is important. Critics here in chicago, far from the vatican question whether its a grand gesture that doesnt have teeth to it. One victim says more still needs to be done to address specific policy changes within the church itself. Listen. I dont believe we should get our hopes up so high as to believe this is going to bring about some kind of global reform from pope francis. If he was really interested in making reforms, theres some basic things he would be doing. For example, he would be focusing more on prevention, grown adults who have been hurt can heal ourselves. Its painful, but far more important to protect Vulnerable Children who cant protect themselves. I think he would stop talking about the sex abuse crisis as though it was history. I believe, because we know this is still ongoing today reporter no new policy changes are set to come out of today. Part of the plan is to address best prak sises and encourage local responsibility for dealing with this head on in countries around the world.
