He wants to be one step ahead, same thing with john kasich. He is then a state that looks to be receptive to him. I think that is what youre saying with all of these people. The folks that do expect to win the state, tend to give their victory speech is there. Thee cohen steve networks have declared the won. D trump has one Corey Lewandowski is right next to the microphone. Cbs says he will take a few days off to take time with his family. Always very loaded phrases in politics. Taking time off to spend time with your family. I think what youre seeing is a Donald Trump Campaign is the campaign is still growing. It is expanding. It has struggled in recent weeks. It have had a tough time in these postprimary events. Delegatesgled to gain they thought they had one on Election Night won on Election Night. The Donald Trump Campaign has tried to gear up for the next primary as we go towards 12 37. Politico was first report this week that there were lots of there was a lot of tension in the Donald Trump Campaign as they add on senior folks. I think that is a reflection of what you are seeing. With donald trump winning the New York Primary, after a ring of losses, including the loss in wisconsin, where does the campaign go next . You talked about delaware steve you talked about delaware and rhode island, is he ahead . Hise does this put candidacy in relation to john kasich and ted cruz. This is a big win for donald trump. It is a big state with a lot of delegates. It is a good win. It will be important to see the margin of victory. If he breaks 50 it will be important. It is also important to see how he does by Congressional District. New york is a state that allocates delegates statewide based on the performance. It also allocates by district. The more delegates he will take out of a delegate rich date. It is worth following his performance throughout the night. After new york, there are a few more states that look good for him. It is mostly northeastern next week. So far the cold seem to be promising for donald trump so far the polls seem to be promising for donald trump. Places like rhode island, maryland, each state is different. There is no place where it looks right now that he is really struggling. As we go into this portion, where maybe stylistically he is a decent fit, these states coming up appeared to be pretty good for him. Steve we welcome our listeners. All eyes are on new york. Once the results come in, we will have those for you on the bottom of the screen. For the radio audience, we will tell you. Right now the network is declaring donald trump the winner on the republican side. Still too early to call between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. We are asked donald trump headquarters in midtown manhattan. When he comes to the podium, will have that live. As they look at the delegate totals, before tonight where there are 95 republican delegates. Right now donald trump has 756. Ted cruz has 559. Has 144. Kasich 1200 37 delegates needed to win on the first ballot. Events we are covering will take place thursday in hollywood, florida as the republicans gather to talk about the upcoming rules for the convention. What if anything to expect . Do we expect . Charlie this will probably be the biggest media mob scene at a Republican Rules Committee ever. I think it is a quarterly event, but typically events like this get little coverage because of reporters do not follow it that closely. There is not a lot of reader interest in these sort of arcane meetings. They tend to be about party business. I think you will see a media crush because all of a sudden we are realizing the importance of all of the rules set down in the republican convention. On the democratic side as well, but it is more likely to be a tension filled affair on the republican side. Everyone is paying attention to, who are the delegates. Who do they support . We are also discovering something that insiders have known for a long time the people they get on these key committees of the convention, and one of the most important is some may call the rules committee. These are the people that can make up the rules that can in many ways really affect the outcome in a number of ways. I think the campaigns will have representatives. I think all of the media rl at our outlet will have a few reporters there. We will see what be to govern the convention. T will be the baby like what will be debate be like. Right now donald trump is declared the winner. He has exceeded the 50 threshold at 34 . Governor kasich at 28 and senator cruz at nearly 18 , reflecting what the polls have been saying on the republican side. On the democratic side, hillary at nearly 622 and senator sanders at 38 62 and senator sanders at 38 . This is just an early sense. We get a sense the donald trump will be speaking shortly as we look at the activity inside of his camcorders headquarters. I question about this fall and the other magic number, 220 and what the electoral 270, and what the electoral map look like. Charlie the Electoral College it is not too early, even though both parties are a long from crowning a nominee, it is never too early to think about what the battleground state will look like. Side, theocratic proclinton super pac priority has already made millions of dollars in ad reservations across the swing state landscape. We begin to get an understanding of what the democrats think will be the hardest fought states by where they are placing ad dollars. It is the kind of places we have grown accustomed to in the past. When frustration you hear a lot when you get outside of washington is so few states actually participate in the president ial election. That is one reason why the election is so terrific. You get to see states like new york or california the do not typically get involved because their election happen to late or they are too blue to really matter any of general in the general. Now we are getting an idea of what lance plates landscape will look like in november. We go from a broad map in the primary where every state seems to matter to a narrow map in november. It looks like the kinds of accustomed to, new hampshire, colorado, virginia, places like that really tight in recent years. They will be the state same states again. There are a couple of states on the periphery. Places like North Carolina will be interesting to watch. One of the more interesting things that is being discussed right now, sort of behind closed doors in parties is contingent on the nominee of the party. On the republican side there is what of speculation about the general election map will look like if donald trump is the nominee. Does he put some states in the rust belt in play, or does he risk losing states . Those discussions already happening. We are still months away from the conventions. Steve you and others have been reporting on the comments of Mitch Mcconnell who told whaf him we, kentucky that he was confident there would be a second ballot. What is your read . Charlie when you take a look at the primaries left, the delegate counts, the path they need to of 1237,e magic number it is hard to see anyone getting there. You can make the argument that some of the campaigns like the Donald Trump Campaign believes they can. I am of the opinion, when i look what is ahead, i dont think anybody gets to 1237. If you are of that opinion, the next question is, what is that first what does that first vote look like . Theonald trump does not get 1237, but he does have a majority of delegates, does he get elected . Should he become the nominee on the first ballot . I think what youre hearing from mcconnell is the idea that he is not going to get a 1237. If he goes to one ballot, he will be the first name it comes up. He will still not get a majority. That is probably Mitch Mcconnells hope. Steve a couple of tweets. This is from Andrea Lafferty who works for nbc news. He points out the speech by senator ted cruz he begins the rally by sharing the observations that have nothing to do with a politician winning his home state tonight. Saysy dimon with cnn donald trump is cleaning up the 95 delegates. He says the goal is to best prove to best ted cruz and john kasich inhome statements. State wins. Charlie what you typically see in a campaign is trash talk between the campaigns in terms of home states. You want to dismiss your opponents when wins. If you want to dismiss donald trump, you say of course he had win. En had to steve what do you think the tone will be tonight with donald trump . Any changes on how he approaches the next eight weeks . Charlie i think it will give him more confidence, not that he needs it. I think it gives him some momentum back. Campaign, then a momentum plays an enormous role. He came off a tough loss in wisconsin. There is a lot of polling that showed his candidacy had problems. When you win a state egg, it tends to solve some problems and put wind in your sale. State, itu win your tends to solve your problems and put wind in your sale sail. I think it will give a sense of comfort they are trying to integrate senior people. Is a greatin here start. They will have a clearer vision if they can get to the magic number of 1237. Steve with an eye on what is happening, donald trump expected to speak momentarily. We go to veronica. Good evening. Veronica i looked at my phone to see if i was losing charge, but i have a lot. My name called my main call is about john kasich. We buried a fallen officer in columbus, ohio. There were officers their nationwide. Even the attorney general, but no john kasich, the governor. I am upset. If he was there, he was not mentioned. Mom had already talked to mike. He could have taken time out to be at this officers funeral. Steve lets get a response. Let me share with john kasich share tonight. He was in annapolis, maryland. He did talk about the delegate math moving ahead. Map moving ahead. John kasich nobody is going to get enough delegates. To Donald Trump Campaign is complaining because they will not get enough votes. We are going to be deadlocked. What delegates are going to do is you are going to consider, i think, fundamentally two things. This one is crazy. Who could win in the fall . [applause] now i beat hillary consistently in every Single National paul p oll poll. Everyone. They have this electoral thing where these people i dont have a are, but they are apparently pretty respectable. They surveyed 40,000 people and charted out the Electoral College. Hillary smashed to guys that i am running against. I beat hillary decisively. They are going to take a look at this because if we pick somebody with very high negatives, which they have. People dont want to look, p look, some people are angry but ultimately people do not like politicians who they do not like. They just dont. Steve did you hear what governor kasich was saying. Looking at the map and Electoral College votes . Kasich isovernor elaborating the most powerful argument in his favor which is if you take a look at the polling right now, he is the only republican who defeat Hillary Clinton in a headtohead matchup. That can be pretty persuasive for republicans that are tired of eight years of democratic control. If you take a look at match ups donald trump, Hillary Clinton wins everywhere or most places including the swing states. Even close in deep red states like mississippi and utah. When you see matchups with ted cruz and Hillary Clinton, again, clinton has the edge. The john kasich numbers he looks stronger and a lot of polling against Hillary Clinton. That is the heart of his argument. The other side of the argument is, he masked the real weakness of the john kasich campaign. How about winning a state . John kasich has 11 state has won one state. On one side you have a persuasive argument about how strongls show him to be as possible republican nominee, on the other hand you have the weakness of not winning that many states. He is not poised to win new york. It is not clear what he will win next week. There is tension there and he obviously wants to focus on the positive aspects. Steve you talk about the rules committee in 2012, the rule was you had to win 88. Eight states. That prevented ron paul. 2016 inck and 2016 . Charlie i think all of the rules are out of the window as you go and. In. The rules committee can do whatever they want. They want to change to 10 states, they can, if they want to take it down to one state to make sure the john kasich gets a vote, they could do that. We just do not know until we know the makeup of the committee. The rules committee is determined by a couple of people from every state delegation. Until we get closer to the convention the rules Committee Meets a little bit before the convention to set up some of the procedures. Until we get closer to that, we really do not know what it will look like. Meeting of theng rnc meeting in hollywood, florida, goes underway thursday. We will have coverage midafternoon on cspan thursday. We will also have remarks by the chairman of the party. We will also reenter it overnight reair it overnight. New numbers from new york. On the republican side, we said earlier the donald trump is the declared winner with now 7 70 . He has nearly 72 . Ohio government governor kasich at just over 16 and senator ted cruz at nearly 12 . On the democratic side, Hillary Clinton is maintaining her lead with a significantly at 61. 7 . Senator sanders at nearly 38. 3 . That is with 9 of the vote in. Jerry from maryland. Your state will get a lot of attention. Jerry i think it is. Watchedell you what, i the speech by ted cruz. I thought he was, he is very gracious. It sounded like he was even using a little bit of obama rhetoric. It came across as odd. Desirable far more candidate. I am democrat, leaning independent. Think maybe these candidates dont seem to have a lot of this of is a sense of humor. I saw ted cruz on the tonight show and i thought he did really well. The interview with donald trump with funny. Was funny. The evolution of candidates . We are covering the primary a year before the election. Charlie i think of the welcome news for the Ted Cruz Campaign to hear that somebody like jerry, someone who describes himself as a democrat leaning independent finds the ted cruz message appealing. I think right now youre not seeing that much of a pivot because we are so far from the determining from determining a nominee on the republican side. Even on the democratic side, we have seen Hillary Clinton in the center. Typically in an election, because Bernie Sanders has put together a streak of wins, Hillary Clinton has not been able to do that. You might see more on her side if she wins big in new york. We might see that sooner than we would on the republican side. Republican contenders still have to win over a conservative republican electorate before they can claim the nomination. Steve just tweeting this picture of the rally from earlier tonight with Bernie Sanders. As the new york polls close, the scene from the Bernie Sanders rally. The fired up crowd is gone, will they pull a pennsylvania win next week . Donald trump just issued the street saying that, thank you new york, i love you. So far he has had 4000 likes and many retreats. Donald trump wins the New York Primary. Who is joining, us in brooklyn, new york. I voted for Bernie Sanders. Steve tell us about it. Caller she had to give me a separate ballot. When i asked i said, how many people are disenfranchised . She said 40,000. I think it is rigged. The thing about Hillary Clinton, i dont know why blacks are flocking to her. She does not mean what she says. She said in her last debate that and is goingback to set up a no flies in. No fly zone. Steve we will get a response. Charlie the caller is alluding to a problem we have seen, there has been so much interest in the president ial race, whether democrat or republican. The turnout has been so great, recordbreaking in many cases that it is overwhelming the ability of the Elections Officials to accommodate them. He saw a real problem in arizona where you are talking about hours and hours of waiting. It was something the subject of a lawsuit right now. You solve problems with long lines elsewhere. Clearly i dont know much about this case and what happened in brooklyn, but it sounds like again we saw some ballot box problems. I think it is something that Election Officials intend to be diligent. I think it is something theyre working hard to get right for the general election, as ashley that is why two of which the huge turnout. Steve when you hear the donald trump says the system is rigged, he is talking about the delegate election process. That is a function of the democratic and public and parties. The New York Times had an editorial saying, we do not get these elections right. We should have learned from 2000. We are still dealing. With confiscated issues. Charlie part of the problem is we do not fund the elections well enough. When you think about the competing interests for money, Election Administration ranks far down. It is not easy to run elections. , much of they technology is obsolete. It is expensive. When it comes to Donald Trumps point about rigged elections and delegate conventions, i think there is some truth to what he is saying. Theink in this sense, system is rate, not against him or anyone in particular, but it has been rigged for many years in favor of the parties that run them. York, bernieke new sanders has raised the point over and over again, why are 3 trillion people who are not registered republican or democrat, why can he not vote in the primary . That is a new york state law that has been on the books for a long time. The parties have implemented either laws or rules designed to either for them to advance their own interests. If it is in a partys interest to keep people outcome of a structure it in that way. If they want to bring people in, they structure the roles that way rules in that way. It is changeable, but only if in a students pay close enough attention. Typically we have not done that as american citizens. Now it is coming to the forefront this year now that so many new people are coming into the process. Chris from the Washington Post makes this point what are the chances that donald trump makes reference to new york values in his speech tonight. Putting it at 152 . You can follow him online at Washington Post. Com. We have been told the donald trump would speak now 25 minutes ago. It is one of those situations where it is free up and wait. Hurry up and wait. Lets tell you about the results, especially fewer listening on seas and radio. Cspan radio. Hillary clinton is holding onto a commanding lead. Mrs. With 14 of the vote now in. This is with 14 of the vote now and. Senator sanders is below 30 39 . Donald trump has 70 of the vote. Governor kasich has 17. 6 . Senator ted cruz has just over 12 . Lets go to sam, in maryland. Evening. Ood i am calling to make the point that democrats really need to stick together. What happened in the last election was that we only voted for the president ial election, but did the did not vote for the congressional. That cost a lot with republicans having control of both houses. It is making the president s job more difficult. This time we need to stick together and get out there and vote. Hillary clinton has been in the white house before. She has been at interNational Levels. She has great experience. Steve thank you for the call. That goes to the earlier point that overall turnout seems to be lower in the primary. Pointe it gets to the where turnout is higher in president ial years than midterm. Percentages are much bigger in president ial years. Caller r collar its to something we will be coming to, the question of party unity. Kenny party unify behind the candidate . It will be a tough convention. There will be a lot of bruises and scrapes. It is essential be party to unite. The same thing on the other side. Of the Big Questions right now if you are a Hillary Clinton supporter is come at what point does the Sanders Campaign close it up and become clear there is no trajectory to victory because of delegates what do we do to bring those new voters into the fold . It is something both parties will be grappling with. The conventions will be really important for that reason. Senator sanders schedule, he is not letting up. Today,in pennsylvania spending money in oregon, delaware, rhode island. A full schedule. Tonight he makes no appearance of slowing down in his challenge to clinton. Charlie he has been consistent. Many of us primary in the media have looked at the numbers and said, what is the path . How you move forward . Has consistently said, you go all the way through to the convention. We typally of not seen that have not seen that. We typically expect politicians to say one thing, and do another. In sanderss case, it is important to remember he is not someone who came up to the party system. He does not oh anyone. Owe anyone. There is less pressure for him to get out of the race. When you listen to what his supporters are saying, they are telling him to stay in. We have called lots of them and many of them say the same thing. He should stay and come after all he just one seven of eight primaries won seven of eight primaries. He has brought more voters. He is not hurting for money. Minting money from small donors. All the traditional reasons you have is a candidate for pulling the plug, they dont exist for sanders. There is every reason to think he might go all the way to the end. Steve Andrea Mitchell is making this point and that is because it is too close to call. The race in new york has not been called. Hillary clinton has not arrived in the hotel. Senator Bernie Sanders has left pennsylvania. He is in vermont. Also been reporting about a number of Senate Republican candidate who will not be at the convention in cleveland this july. Also House Republicans are in closely watched races come away races, why . Charlie you see members of congress skip their National Party convention. Were typically it is on the democratic side. This is typically the case where you come as a member of congress, or as a local official, you have to get distance from her National Party because youre scared of the blowback. Whether it is an ideological or something of a National Level you are afraid that will hurt your candidacy. In the past we have seen this with conservative democrats. They dont want to be affiliated with a more liberal National Party so they would not go to the national convention. We are now seeing the opposite. Candidates who are presumably scared about blowback from the fight at the top. For example, if you are a moderate republican in a competitive race, maybe you do not want to be associated with a nominee if it were ted cruz, who is that conservative. Or you dont want somebody like donald trump who is divisive. You try to avoid the trouble. Steve here is donald trump with his wife as he enters the podium. Charlie, thank you for being with us on this primary night. We appreciate it. We will watch the scene in new york, and truck tower at tower. These a little town blues are melting away i will make a brandnew start of it in old new york if i can make it there i will make it anywhere york up to you new new york York New York city thatwake up in a never sleeps i am donald trump i have to say to the people that know the no me be best, the people of new york, or they give us when they give us this kind of a vote, it is incredible. We are close to 70 . We will end at a high level and get more delegates than anybody projected. Even in their wildest imagination. I want to thank everybody here. I want to thank my family. [applause] usa usa usa donald trump i really want to thank my team. My team has been amazing. It is a team of unity. It is evolving. The press does not understand it. Keep talking. This has been an incredible evening. It has been an incredible day and week. We went all over new york state. New york state has problems like virtually every other state in the union. Our jobs are being sucked out of our state. They are being taken out of our country. Will not let it happen anymore. We are going to stop it. , behind me, ily have to say we have some of our great businessmen of the world. Carl is here. Ben, the great steve ross. Steve is building a building on central park south. I said, steve, congratulations. He said, donald, it is nothing like what is happening to you. We have our great leaders. It has been something. It has really been something amazing. Believe me, we are going to use our great Business People to negotiate unbelievable trade deals so we bring our jobs back. Godo not let our companies to mexico and all of these other countries anymore. We are going to keep the jobs here. You are going to be very proud of this country very soon. We are going to build our military bigger, better, stronger than ever before. [applause] donald trump nobody is going to mess with us. That i can tell you. We are going to take care of our veterans. They are great people. We have forgotten them. Illegal immigrants are taking care of in many cases that are than our veterans. That is not going to happen. We are getting rid of obamacare. It is going to be repealed and replaced. It is a total disaster with premiums going up 35 to 50 , it is going to probably end of his its own volition. We are getting rid of common core. It is going to be over. Are bringing education locally. Local communities will take care of their educational needs. People have been waiting for that for a long time. With all of the things that have happened today, tonight, and over the week, i will tell you what this has been an amazing week. Weer new york state went to syracuse, albany, 20,000 people. On average we have 15,000 to 20,000 people. We went to rochester. We went all over. The people of this country and the people of this state truly are great and amazing people. We are going to be so strong again. Legitimately, so great again. I just cannot wait. We do not have much of a race anymore based on what i am seeing on television. Senator cruz is just about mathematically eliminated. [applause] donald trump and we have won another state we have won millions of more votes than senator cruz and governor kasich. Tonight we have close to 300 delegates more than ted cruz. [applause] we are really, really rocking. We expect we are going to have an amazing number of weeks. These are places and they are in trouble. When you look at pennsylvania. When you look at indian the. Indiana. When you look at maryland and rhode island, so many places we have problems everywhere you look. We are going to solve those problems. One of the big problems [applause] one of the big problems is the economy and jobs. That is my wheelhouse. Again, i want to thank everyone. It is really nice to win the delegates with a web with the votes. [applause] trumpp donald trump nobody should be given delegates which is a ticket to victory. It is not a fair ticket. Even though we are leading by a lot, and we cannot be caught nobody should take delegates and claim victory unless they get those delegates with voters and voting. That is what is going to happen. You watch. The people are not going to stand for it. It is a crooked system. It is a system that is rigged. We are going to go back to the old way. It is called, uboat, and u. N. And you win. Over the next number of weeks, we just saw a poll out of california that is unbelievable were going into the convention, i think, as the winner. Nobody can take an election away the way they are doing it in the Republican Party. By the way, i am no fan of bernie. I have seen bernie win, win, win, and i watch and they say he has no chance. They have their superdelegates. The republican system is worse. I want to thank everybody. I have great admiration and praise for the city of new york and the state. I can think of nowhere that i would rather have this victory. We love you all. Have a great evening. We celebrate. Tomorrow morning we go back to work. I am flying tomorrow morning. I am flying tomorrow morning to indiana. I am going to pennsylvania. I will be all over. We are going to celebrate for about two hours. Early in the morning i get up and we begin working again. Thank you, everybody. Thank you, new york. We love new york. We love new york. Thank you very much everybody. Thank you. [applause] start spreading the news im leaving today be a part of it new York New York shoesvagabond are longing to stray right through the very heart of it new York New York i want to wake up in a city that does not sleep hillind i am king of the top of the heap blueslittle town are melting away i will make a brandnew start of it in old new york can make it there i will make it anywhere news up to you new york York New York new york up in a city that never sleeps i am a number one, top of the list king of the hill a number one blueslittle town are melting away to make a brandnew start of it in old new york and if i can make it there i am going to make it anywhere it is up to you new York New York new york steve with of course a classic Frank Sinatra song, new York New York. Donald trump the winner in the New York Primary in the scene where it all began as he made his way down that infamous escalator. Now the winner of the New York Primary trying to reset his campaign after a string of losses. Also the scene at Hillary Clinton headquarters where she too has been declared the winner. Listen in for just a moment. Hillary Hillary Hillary [cheers] [applause] hillary, hillary, hillary, hillary [cheers] [applause] let us turn to the top of the empire estate building the color blue. [applause] this is a big victory. People whohere were thought the two might not win. At the end of the day, she did. She knows the state well. A big victory for her this evening. No question. A huge victory for her. You mentioned to the 10 year mark, it really has been 10 years. Steve at the Hillary Clinton headquarters as they watched network coverage. Hillary clinton declared the winner where she served as u. S. Senator for eight years. Of elected in 2006. Served as secretary of state and campaigned in the five boroughs of new york city to rochester, albany, buffalo, syracuse. Along the Southern Tier of new york. Headquarters is the sheraton, new york, times square. About 37 of the vote reporting that Hillary Clinton is at 60. 5 . Sen. Sanders Sanders Holding below 40 at 39. 5 . On the republican side, donald trump, the winner of the New York Primary with 63 . Governor kasich reflecting what the polls have been saying all along, almost 23 . He was in annapolis earlier. Senator ted cruz at 14. 2 . If on the democratic side you want to know why Hillary Clinton is winning significantly, go to our website. We have broken down a result statewide and county by county. And the new york area, Hillary Clinton getting about six to 6 of the vote compared to 34 for Bernie Sanders. You can check out the results at cspan. Org. Lets use the opportunity to hear from you as we await the Hillary Clintons remarks. Lana is joining us on the republican line. Lana i wanted to mention i can understand how donald trump made that mistake the other day, regarding 9 11 and 7eleven. Just last week i had to take my mother to a new specialist. When the doctor asked what pharmacy do you use . Qvc, instead of cvs. Can you please tell donald trump a small mistake like that makes him more likable. Line from democrats decatur, georgia. Good evening. You are on the air. Caller i am going for Bernie Sanders. Steve why . Caller i was on the line and i heard sam say that Hillary Clinton has been in the white house. I agree, she has been there before. She knows the routine. I think we should have someone who is had has not had the experience. Steve thank you. We caught up with Bernie Sanders at penn state earlier tonight. Earlier today he began campaigning and yuri, pennsylvania. Here he ishe earlier tonight at penn state. Bernie sanders i dont want to to tell anybody this, keep it [shh] but secretary clinton is getting a little bit nervous. [cheers] Bernie Sanders she is getting we have wonuse seven out of the last eight caucuses. [cheers] Bernie Sanders she is getting nervous because when we began this campaign we were 60 points behind. In the last couple of weeks, a few National Polls have actually had us in the lead. [cheers] Bernie Sanders she is getting nervous because democratic voters know that in virtually every national matchup general election poll we beat donald trump by wider numbers than she does. [cheers] Bernie Sanders and the American People are catching on, that if we are going to prevent donald trump or some other republican from occupying the white house, which would be a disaster for campaignry we have to to make sure that that does not happen. [cheers] steve from penn state earlier tonight, senator Bernie Sanders. The full speeches on our website at cspan. Org. It runs over an hour. A chance to see a later tonight as part of our coverage of the new york state primary and a look ahead at next weeks primaries. Primaries and caucuses in and pennsylvania, connecticut, rhode island, and delaware. We are back next week for the results and the speeches by the candidates. A series of primaries in may primarily just individual states in early and midway midmay. It will wrap up in june in states like california. Indiana, the democratic costs caucuses. In west virginia, the primary and kentucky and oregon. On june 7, the final set will include new jersey and california. Hillary clinton saying thank you to new york. Tweeting this out thank you new york, you put your faith in me 15 years ago and again tonight. I will never stop fighting for you. Indicating it is a tweet from her. The Hillary Clinton headquarters in midtown manhattan. When she comes to the podium, we will take you there life. Caller how are you tonight . Steve we are fine. Registeredm a democrat, my first election was the 2000 814 barack obama 2008 election for barack obama. That is who i voted for. About machinek failures. My brother is in queens it was an issue brought up today on campus. Really are students about sustainability, that is why we like Bernie Sanders. Steve there is a story about that in a New York Times. Lets listen to the former mayor. He is speaking of the Hillary Clinton headquarters. At the Hillary Clinton headquarters. Ime 160 mayor of the city of the 106th mayor of the city of new york. I am a proud supporter of Hillary Clinton. As a matter of fact, today is the fourth time i have voted for her. [cheers] mayor i and delighted to be here. I dont know when i have seen this room so full of wonderful people. Good democrats, all. Our city, like many others are struggling to deal with issues of affordable housing, homelessness, mass incarceration, Mental Health, and accessible Public Education for everyone. We should not still be living in where those who have worked all of their lives have to choose between paying rent, buying food, or getting the medicine they need. [applause] candidate the only who has the authentic vision, expertise and training to ensure that no american will be faced with such choices beyond the next decade. [applause] i have seen her work around the clock to strengthen communities who believe she is the only candidate that can unite our great country beyond this time of division. [applause] by way of full disclosure, Hillary Clinton has always shown the support before, during, and after my time in office. [applause] we have known each other ever since her early days with the childrens defense fund. She has been outstanding. People who know me know that i love children. When she way back, right out of law school went to work with the childrens defense fund. That tells me aside from all of her other qualities, and proven expertise, that, for me, is enough. [applause] she gives so much of her energy and wisdom to helping all of our residents, but especially our littlest citizens. She has done this as a Public Interest lawyer, as first lady, as senator, as secretary of state, and the clinton foundation, and now as our residents of candidate president ial candidate. [applause] she does this as a daughter, wife, mother, and now as a grandmother. [applause] the Sanders Campaign makes md promises in new york makes empty promises. His talk of a revolution without a plan Hillary Clinton stands with us. Speaking out. Calling for immediate action and laying out detailed plans about how to get it done. [applause] everything that hillary has done in her life reflects her for positivepirit, intellect, and her commitment to public service. She continues to do it with a whole lot of heart. Her dedication is remarkable. There is no doubt in my mind that she is the best candidate for our country. [applause] she has a vision, and always stands with the people as a force for real social change. To balance he for pay equity and shatter invisible ceiling for women and girls. [applause] she fights to raise the minimum wage are hardworking citizens. Four hardworking citizens. She is a champion of responsible government, affordable housing, education, and civil rights. Voting rights. Womens rights. Public safety and child welfare. Hillary clintons trailblazing advocacy is a force for real change in a complex world that needs your leadership because she will never give up. [applause] gratitude and our respect for the work she has already done and the work that we all know she will do as our 46th president i am sorry, 45th president of the United States of america. [applause] god bless you all. [applause] [captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. Visit ncicap. Heres the headline from the New York Daily News discouraged democrats from brooklyn showed up to the polls on tuesdays primary to find out theyd been purged from the voting rolls people feeling they would been profoundly snuffed. Youll hear more from that and the impact it might have had on the brooklyn areas. Again, Hilary Clinton and donald trump, huge wins for them, as they now move ahead to other reas of the neice primaries. Back to your phone calls. Allow with us, from new york. Did you vote today . Caller i did. I voted for Hilary Clinton. As you recall, eight years ago, it was an earlier supertuesday. It was not a day where new york was the only state tuesday and voting and she won new york then and itch to latch when i watch donald trump. He might be born in new york, he opened an had his embaresing career based in new york. Trump powers and towers and this, that, and the other. I mean, does he really think hes going to win new york . When i think about the voters and i dont mean to discount the voices of those that feel he does speak some truth to him. Steve im going to stop you because the governor of new york has now come to the podium. Here is andrew cuomo. Are there any hilary democrats in the house . [cheers] how much do we love hilary . How great is tonight . How loud has new york spoken so the nation can hear . Hilary clinton, the next president of the United States [cheers] ill tell you. Ill tell you, my friends, it was such a treat these past few weeks. How great was it to have hilary and bill back in new York Campaign something wasnt it . Ill tell you, on a personal level, i loved it. I worked in the clinton administration, im proud to say i was there from day one until the last day of the clinton administration. And that administration redeemed the degree. It showed this country how government can work, how we can come together, how we can cite jobs and we can increase wealth and we can reduce poverty and thats what the clinton record was all about. And Hilary Hilary is a new york democrat. He gets us. [cheers] he is a cando democrat. She knows that government is about making a difference in peoples lives and getting results. She knows that new york state, we just dont talk the progressive talk, we walk the progressive walk [cheers] she knows in new york state we deliver results. This is the state that passed marriage equality. This will system testimony state and saided gun control every state should pass gun control. And then hilary was our good luck charm. While she was in the state we passed a statement budgets that has done more good things than weve done in decades. We passed more funding for education than any time in the history of the state. More funding for prek than any time in history. More money for Environmental Protection than any time in history. Family law inbest the United States of america. An then what an honor, what honor to have Hilary Clinton stand with us when we were the first state to sign 15 minimum wage into law in the United States. [applause] no, in new york in new york, its about delivery. Its about results and thats why we love hilary. She feels senator of new york and she delivered results for new yorkers year after year after year, and thats why new yorkers remember and new yorkers are loyal. And hilly delivered for us and tonight we delivered for Hilary Clinton, and we put her on the path to be the next president of the United States and my friends, not only does Hilary Clinton know that government is about service and about delivery, Hilary Clinton is also the best candidate for to us win in november, and this s about winning in november. This november this nation has two very clear choices. Two very clear choices, the more you hear the opponent speak, the clearer and the more important these choices become. You know what theyre saying on he other side. Theyre taking the fear, theyre taking the anxiety and theyre trying pit us one against the other. Theyre trying to say the problem is the different people. You know what they mean by the different people. Different people are people are different skin colors, people with different sexual orientation, people with different religious. Thats what theyre saying the different people are and what were saying in new york is dont you ever fry to turn us one against another. [cheers] where where do you think you are . Youre in new york [cheers] were not afraid of diversity. E celebrate our diversity we love the fact that were black and brown and asian. We love that were gay and straight. We love that were christian and jewish and muslim. We love it that were all together. Thats who we are welcome to new york [cheers] you want to turn us against immigrants . Were all imgrants, and we love it. Youre going to tell us about america. Were going to point you to the statue of liberty that welcomed everyone here. Epluribus omise, systems unim. Out of many, one. Thats what this country is about, and dont you ever try and turn us one against the other. Thats going to be hilarys message. Hilarys message is going to be were going to take this nation forward but you know what, were going to take this nation forward together. Were leaving no one behind. Ecause we believe the sweetest success is shared success. Thats what weve proven in new york. Thats what tonight proves loud and clear, and were going to send forth our hilary rod ham clinton to the rest of the nation with new york at her back and our wind at her sails and we say go get em, hilary. Go get em, president Hilary Rodham clinton and lets make in nation the best its ever been thank you, god bless you [cheers] steve the scene at the she on the times square in midtown manhattan. With nearly 670 of the vote now, Hilary Clinton at 59 , senator Bernie Sanders at 41 . About 681,000 votes for Hilary Clinton and just over 400,000 for senator sand sexirs on the republican side, donald trump with nearly 61 of the vote or 261,000 of the votes. This is with nearly 60 of the republican vote now in we will continue to watch the scene inside the she on the hotel in mid town manhattan. Were told that Hilary Clinton will be speaking momentarily and afterwards our phone lines will be open. The headline in new york, donald trump and Hilary Clinton the winner in new yorks primary and now all eyes on pennsylvania, delaware, connecticut, maryland, and rhode island, the next round of primaries a week from tonight. More from new york. Ilary clinton. Audience Hillary Hillary Hillary Hillary Hillary Hillary Hillary Hillary ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage, Hillary Clinton [cheers] these streets will make you feel brandnew e lights will inspire you [cheers] hillary thank you, new york. Audience Hillary Hillary hillary thank you all so much. Thank you. U know, today today you proved once again theres no place like home. [cheers] you know, in this campaign, weve won in every region of the country. From the north to the south to the east, to the west, but this one is personal. [cheers] new yorkers, youve always had my back. [cheers] and ive always tried to have yours. Today together we did it again and i am deeply, deeply grateful. I want to thank everyone who came out and voted and to all of you across new york whove known me and worked with me for so long. It is it is humbling. Its humbling that youd trust me with the awesome responsibilities that await our next president. And to all the people who supported senator sanders, i believe there is much more that unites us than divides us. [applause] you know, we started this race not far from here on roosevelt island. Pledging to build on the progressive tradition thats done so much for america, from Franklin Roosevelt to barack obama. [applause] and tonight, a little less than a year later, the race for the democratic nomination is in the home stretch and victory is in sight. [cheers] audience Hillary Hillary Hillary Hillary and i i want to say i want to say to all of my supporters and all of the voters, you have carried us every step of the way with passion and determination that some critics tried dismiss. Because of you, this campaign is he only one, democrat oren, to win more than 10 million votes. [cheers] but i im Going Forward because more voices remain to be heard and tomorrow its on to connecticut, delaware, maryland, pennsylvania, rhode island and beyond. [cheers] we need to you keep volunteering. I hope you will join the 1. 1 million pipe whove already cricketsed at Hillary Clinton. Com. And by the way, most with less than 100, because we have more work to do. Under the bright lights of new york, we have seen that its not enough to diagnose problems. You have to explain how you would actually solve the problems. [cheers] thats what we have to do together, for our kids, for each other, for our country. So i want you to me to imagine a tomorrow where no barriers hold you back and all of our people can cheryl in the promise of america. Imagine a tomorrow where every parent can find a good job and every grand parent can enjoy a secure retirement. [cheers] where no child grows up in the shadow of discrimination or under the specter of deportation. [cheers] where hard work is honored, families are supported and communities are strong. A tomorrow where we trust and respect each other despite our differences [cheers] because were going to make positive differences in peoples lives. That is what this is supposed to be about, actually helping people and each other. [applause] ow we all know audience Hillary Hillary Hillary Hillary we all know too many eople who are still hurting. I see it everywhere i go. The Great Recession wiped out jobs, homes and savingings and a lot of Americans Still havent roverled. But i still believe with all my heart, that as another great democratic president once said, theres nothing in america that cant be cureled by whats right with america. [applause] that is, after all, what weve always done. Its who we are. America is a problemsolving nation and in this campaign we are setting bold, progressive goals backed up by real plans that will improve lives, creating more good jobs that provide dignity and pride in a middle class life. Raising wages and reducing inequality. Making sure all our kids have a good education no matter what hey live in. Building ladders of opportunity and empowerment so that all of our people can go as hard as their talent and hard work will take them. Lets revitalize places that have been been left behind, from coal cities to coal country. And lets put americans to work, rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, including our failed Water Systems, like the one in frinlt, million. [applause] there are many places across our country where children and families are at risk. From the water they drink and he air they breathe. Lets combat Climate Change and make america the firstEnergy Superpower of the 21st energy. Lets take on the challenge of systemic racism and finally pass comprehensive Immigration Reform. [cheers] and once and for all, lets guarantee equal pay for women [cheers] and we are going to keep our families safe and our countries strong and were going to defend our rights. Civil rights, voting rights, workers rights, womens rights. And rights for people with [inaudible] those are, after all, new york slalls and they were american values. [cheers] and just as we did in this primary campaign, we need to stand up for them, throw the general election through the general election and every day after that. [applause] you know, its becoming clearer that this may be one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime. Donald trump and ted cruz audience boo hillary are pushing a vision for america thats decisive and franklin dangerous. Frankly dangerous. Returning to trickledown economics, opposing any increase in the minimum wage, restricting a womans rights to make her own health care decisions. Promising to round up millions of immigrants, threatening to ban all muslims from entering the country audience boo hillary planning to treat american muslims like criminals. These things go against everything america stands for. And we have a very different vision. Its about lifting each other up, not tearing each other down. [applause] so instead of building walls, were going to break down barriers. And in this campaign, ive seen again our remarkable diversity and determination. This is a state and a country of bighearted, openminded, straight talking, hardworking people. [cheers] you know, like john, a firefighter from the south bronx that i met shortsly after 9 11 as he searched for survivors at ground zero and like so many others, john got sick from breathing the toxic air. When we met again last week, he fdny e a replica of his badge and sthangde me for helping our First Responders get the health care they need. We have to keep fights funderburke john and all of our firefighters, our Police Officers, our Emergency Responders and the construction workers who did so much for us. [cheers] or maxine, a 27yearold single mom from Staten Island whos here tonight. She shares shareholder with me how she worked her way out of poverty, grated from college, thanks in part to the help she got for her child from the Childrens Health Insurance Program that we started in the 1990s [applause] or mikey from simonton town who says is mikey here . Mikey spent six months in reichers far lowlevel drug offense and he found out how hard it is for people who have done their jobs to time to find out how hard toss to find a job when they get out. As you might have seen yesterday, i couldnt stop myself from eating the ice cream yesterday as soon as i got it. By the way, he made a concoction for me called victory. But mikey is one of the many reasons why we have to reform our criminal justice system. And ban the box so others have a air challenges to succeed. You know, new yorkers and americans speak every language, follow every faith, hail from every continent. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths in the 21st century, not a weakness. As rocket kind as Robert Kennedy whose senate seat i was honor told hold once said, we are a great country, an unselfish country, and a compassionate country, and no matter what anyone tells you or what you might hear from others run for president , that is still true today. America is great and we can do great things if we do them together. [cheers] o, please join us, text join 47246. Go to Hillary Clinton. Com, be part of this campaign. I know how important it is that we get the campaigns resources from people just like you who go in and clip in, 5, 25, i am grateful to every one of up and to the volunteers who have worked your hearts out. [cheers] to the community leaders, members of the state senate and assembly, county executives, mayors of cities large and small. Nd to the mayor of new york. And our president president and to our city council members. And to our governor, our senators, our congressional delegation and all my friends across this wonderful state of ours. Thank you. You know, were going to go up against some powerful forces that will do, say, and spend whatever it takes to stop us but remember, its not whether you get knocked down. Its whether you get back up. [cheers] and finally, finally, let me say this. Finally audience Hillary Hillary Hillary Hillary finally, let me say this there is a remarkable young woman here tonight. Her name is erica. Erica mcgelsky. She lives the truth of what ive been saying every day. Ericas mother, dawn, was the principal of sandy hook elementary school. And she dialed frying to protect er children, her students. Erica was devastated, as any Family Member is. And she couldnt imagine life without her mom. But then she got thinking. She got back up. Shed never been involved in politics before. But she has made it her mission to advocate for common sense gun safety reform. [applause] you know, like the mothers of eric garner and Trayvon Martin and so many others, erica has turned her sorrow into a strategy, and her mourning into a movement. It isnt easy but as erica said the other day, what if everyone says its ugh odds hard, so im going to walk away . Thats not the time of world i want to live in erica is not the type its not the type of world we want to live in, and we refuse to live in. That [applause] so my friends, thats the spirit that makes in country great is how new yorkers pulled together and rebuilt our city after the worst terrorist attack in our history. Its how americans worked our way back from the worst economic crisis in our life times and it is how were going to break down all the Barriers Holding us back. The motto of this state is excelsio rnchingts, ever yum wards. So lets go out and win this election and all together. Thank you so much [cheers] new york these streets will make you feel brandnew these lights will inspire you theres nothing you cant do new york these streets will make you feel brandnew these lights will inspire you re is to new york i had a dream so big and loud i jumped so high i touched the clouds i stretched my hands out to the sky im never going to look back whoa im never going to give it up no lease dont wake me now this is gonna be the best day of my life snowed snowed as Hillary Clinton makes her way inside the crowd of whos who of new york politicians. There you see her husband bill clinton and also, the former and current mayor of new york. The governor, andrew cuomo and the new york delegation. We watch the scene from the she on the square in Downtown Manhattan get your reaction. Hillary clinton winning the democratic primary. Donald trump winning the republican primary. Shane from michigan on the republican line, how are you doing . Caller hi, how are you doing . Steve fine and thank you very much for waiting. Caller i would like to say congratulations to mr. Trump. Im a Republican Voters this year. I think its time to bring back america, bring jobs back to our country. I find it intriguing when Hillary Clinton stands up on stage and says that the republicans are invoking violence and dividing our country when the democrats are the ones that started in slavery and they fought for slavery and the republicans are the ones that defeated slavery. Abraham lincoln was the one that stopped slavery in america so if they want to get down to the true facts of what divides america, its the Democrat Party and their welfare programs. If you want to make our country great again we have to stop illegal immigration and stop rewarding criminals. All i hear about from these democrats all the time is about what theyre going to do to reward for people who break the laws. They give Illegal Immigrants a drivers license. They give them better food and housing than an american citizen does. Its got to stop and i think mr. Frumple is going to do that and i appreciate your time. Steve shane, thank you for the call. Lets look amount the democrats counts first. You can see Hillary Clinton has extended her totals bovept with both with pledge and super delegates. She has 1,862 delegates. Senator Bernie Sanders has 1,161 pledged in super delegates. He has 31 compared to 469 super delegates for hill scommill on the republican side, donald trump moving ahead with his winner take all in new york statement. 94 delegates up for grabs tonight. Senator cruz picking up zero delegates this evening. Ohio Governor John Kasich also not picking up additional delegates. He remains amount 144. 1,237 delegates needed for a nomination. And the Bernie Sanders campaign saying thank you for all those who came out tonight to vote in new york. Ontwroord five more states. Asked why he came back to Vice President tonight. Senator sanders saying its been a long week. I need to take a day off and get ready for Vice President have vermont. James is calling us from mississippi. Independent lionel. How are you doing . Caller fine, thank you. How are you steve fine, thank you. Caller im sort of dills pointed in the way the media and cnn and all the other channels when mr. Bernie was running and campaigning, you could tell that miss tem was set up for clinton and the black Democratic Party. All of them was set up and she was already ordained to be president because of what happened with president barack terms. Hose two so the Democratic Party really chose her. They didnt really seek nobody else but the clintons and i dont hold that against her but the Democratic Party and the ones up there in the top, you can see that its a setup because president barack obama apologized s and he to and put her in the office and now the Democratic Party chose her. Because would have been the best candidates for president as woman. So theres a lot of things going on that im not happy with this situation but i can accept it because the africanAmerican People, they didnt really theyre not looking at the whole picture. You say you dont want to go back but you want to go forward. Well, how are you Going Forward with the clintons . And the way the press treated Bernie Sanders, every time they had a contest, he would always go first. Every time they always had a debates they would always put him first and she would go last. She did the same thing with president barack obama. When he was run for president , he went first and she complained about it and then they put president barack obama but on this campaign, if you go back and look at any of the shows, Bernie Sanders was always first and she always got the last comment. Steve thanks for the call, from collins, mississippi. And Hillary Clinton in the crowd of photographers and an estimated crowd, according to the clinton capable at 2,500 inside the she on the. Midtown man mat manhattan, times square. About 126,000 voters in brooklyn could not vote today. The New York Daily News discouraged democrats showed up to the polls but found out that theyd been purged. One said i feel profoundly snuffed. Its a story that continues to get attention tonight and you can reeled the Details Online at ny daily news. Com. Bill clinton and daughter chelsea, who is expecting her second child always at campaign headquarters. Michael from small woomed is joining us on the independent line. Good evening. Caller how are you, sir . Steve were fine, thank you. Caller excellent. This election psych is absolutely zany but there are people going to the polls and programs the problem, as weve seen in arizona and today in brooklyn, you said 126,000 people . Thats a lot of folks. We as a group of citizens donaltsd know our civic law too well. My wife went to the polls today and shes a registered republican. Im a conservative. I gave up the Republican Party after the state legislature in new york voted on gay marriage. So i decided to become a conservative. But my wife voted and she thought it would be a wise idea, programs a strategy, to vote for bernie because it would make him her vote counts. I guess thats the nature of my observation is that everybody seems to think their vote counts this cycle. And thats pretty good but people voting, so maybe you had a young man on from politico on earlier today . Teve charlie mahtesian. Caller he made a great observation of programs the underfunding of the apologies, polling places where we all go to vote. Some are churches, some are basements, some or whatever are whatever. But thats what we do and that may be the block because so many people are turning out. And we should be proud steve we lost the call but thank you for making that point. The New York Times outlining some of the problems of voting overall. Reeled it at nytimes. Com. Michael, you made a point about the purged voters in brooklyn. Let me reeled you some of the details from the New York Daily News posted a short while ago. Some brooklyn voters are furious after they showed up to cast their ballot and were told theyd been purged from the rolls. 126,000 democrats from the brove had been removed from the voter rolls since november of 2015 as part of a long overdue purge. Countsless voters said they made them for no reason and had to vote with an after the ballot instead. Democrats line. Good evening. Caller thank you for taking me my call. What i wanted to mention was your fellow from politico who was there earlier insinuated that there was something rigged in these two participants. And i just want told explain that that there are people who decide they dont want to go with a major party. They could be conservative, republican. They could be a working mans party. They have not been allowed to vote. Using the world rigged, even donald trump uses the world rigged, and its not rigged. Thats actually the way the system works. Steve what we were talking about, jim, was the facts that there are different rules for each of the Political Parties and theres also going to be a rules Committee Meeting this thursday in hollywood, florida, that the Republican National committee has set up and a lot of eyes on what that means for donald trump and also the delegate Selection Process and the rules of the convention. I think thats what he was referring to. Caller everybody gets upset with that. I understand the republicans are going to have their meeting. Its like going to the local elks club and have their meeting. They make their decision on what they do. Steve our cameras will be in the room on thursday and also the closing session on friday. Thank you very much for the call. Caller i appreciate that. Steve one more call from now haven, connecticut. The next round of primaries will include connecticut. Amber, are you going to vote . Caller of course im going to vote. Im really a little bit disappointed because you took my thunder discussing the brooklyn disenfranchised vortsde. I dont believe what anyone has said thus far as the fact that that was the only precinct in new york where there was that many disenfranchised voters. They thought that they were going to be able to vote in the democratic primary and lo and behold they were not. Really disappointing, as ive been a lifetime democrat. Would love to support hillary, finding it very difficult to do so in light of all the circumstances. But i would also like to say to that who was on before, we are all immigrants. All of us. Unless you will are a first person in this country, we are all immigrants. , we all must come together all three elements of the presidency, we need the supreme court, we need the house, the senate, Everyone Needs to get over it. Receiver amber, thanks very much for the call. The road to the white house moves what many are calling the primary. Next week, results coming in from connecticut, delaware, maryland, pennsylvania, and rhode island and joining us live is the director of the franklin and Marshall College poll and someone with whom we check in frequently to check in on the state of pennsylvania politics. Thanks for joining us. Terry thanks for having me on. Steve we expect to see Hillary Clinton tomorrow in philadelphia. Lets talk about the democratic race, what the polls are saying and what we can expect next tuesday. Terry the average of the polls that have been done show secretary clinton with a very substantial lead in the state. This is the state her carried carried in the general election in 199 and 1996. She beat senator obama when she was senator clinton by 10 percentage points. Her her father was born in scranton, played football for penn statement. Her daughter chelsea is mared to. Son of a former married to the son of a former pf passive congresswoman. Over the decades, hillary and bill clinton have built up a resident swa of support all over the state but notice bli in the city of philadelphia, which has the largest pool of voters in the entire state so most of us would be very surprised. The polls educate she has a substantial lead. She has the big mo, as they say, coming out of new york. She leads, by the way, in all the states that you mentioned with the exception of rhode island. Connecticut, probably the 28 delegates there, she gets 58 . There are 189 delegates in play next tuesday in pennsylvania and then theres 21 assumer dill gats for the grand total of 2,0 10. Shes likely to win the lions share of the pledged delegates and then super delegates, i would be stunned if she didnt win 18 or 19 of the 11. Now, theyre not on the ballot. Kneels are party officials, democratic officials, the democratic governor and so forth. Steve lets talk about the republican rails. Many are saying there are unbound delegates, 54 that will not be exitted commitment and would 14 to 17 that will be based on the results. Explain how thats going to work. Terry this is a really cute kind of deal that until you sit through it its hard to get a grasp what it means. There were 71 delegates and as you points out, there are 17 of them that go to the popular vote winner statewide. So lets dismiss those and theyre pledged on the first ballot. Theyre committed on the first ballot. Then there are 54 54 delegates elected out of the statements 18 Congressional Districts, three to a Congressional Districts. So three when an individual goes to vote in Pennsylvania Republican goals to vote, he or she will vote for three delegates and the three delegates with the highest votes will out of that Congressional District will go to the convention in cleveland. Now, heres the way to think about this many of them have independence camed on the record who theyre for. Something like 45 say theyll vote for trump. There are look 165 all together that have file told go. Another 25 have said theyll go with cruz. But they dont have but they dont have to honor what they have said. When Republican Voters cast their votes, three in each Congressional District, the three highest vote getters go to cleveland. There is no indication of what they will do and no president ial candidates name next to the delegates candidate. A lot of voters will see names but they will not know anything about them. They will know very little about them. Even more importantly, regardless of what they said in advance, they will go unbound on all the ballots at the convention. 54 oflvania will send perhaps as many 200 total delegates that dont have a commitment, at least they are not bound by a commitment. So imagine what it is going to be like if trump, and the expectation is he gets somewhere from 25 to 30, short of 1237, perhaps up to 100. Imagine the pressure on the 54 delegates from all sides, as well as about 150 other delegates that will be at the convention that are unbound. About 200 delegates, not legally bound on the first ballot, are going to play a significant role potentially at the convention theding whether trump gets 1237 he needs on the first ballot. What is soy madonna, interesting about this is the last time the republicans had a convention in which there was a question of the nominee was 1976. Ronalddall Reagan Reagan chose the pennsylvania senator to be his running mate hoping to pry loose some of the delegates to put him over the top. It did not happen, that philadelphia pennsylvania has had a key role in contested conventions. Terry you are exactly right. In 1976, jerry ford was the incumbent president. He succeeded to the presidency after nixon resigned facing impeachment and conviction in the senate based on the watergate coverup. So ford was seeking the presidency in his own right. Estimates are 75 to 100 votes short. And literally, the Ford Campaign people were on the form floor of the convention and then the socalled proverbial backgrounds making deals with delegates. Ford was able to get the nomination on the first ballot. By the way, many of these yougates that are unbound, cannot give them cash but the campaigns can promise to pay their expenses to cleveland. They could fly them there, pay for their hotel. I joke and say trump could give them room on the trump airplane to fly them around. That is not illegal. They cannot give the money, but you can imagine the pressure on these 200 or so delegates when they get to the convention when trump bumps up against the 1237 magic number necessary for the nomination. It is going to be quite a show in cleveland. Terry madonna, pulling director, knows all things pennsylvania, a political expert. Thank you for being with us. I am sure we will be talking again in the next couple of days. Lets take a look at the results from new york where Hillary Clinton continues to expand her lead with about 85 of the vote now in, carrying nearly 58 of the vote. Senator Bernie Sanders at nearly 43 of the vote. All of these results are on our website at cspan. Org. On the republican side, a very early call for donald trump as he wins significantly with nearly 60 of the vote. Governor kasich at just over 25 . And senator ted cruz at about 15 . We will continue to be covered the candidates the next couple of days through the weekend and next week. We will have live coverage of the Republican National committee on the cspan Networks Meeting this thursday and friday. Check out the full schedule on our website. We will be covering the house and senate in session this week as well. In case you missed it earlier tonight, donald trump the claim victory about 9 30 this evening at the trump tower headquarters in new york city. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the next president of the United States, mr. Donald j. Trump [Frank Sinatra singing new y york]w say to thei have to people that know we the best, the people of new york, when they give us this kind of vote, it is just incredible. Andess we are close to 70 , we are going to and at a very high level and get a lot more delegates than anybody projected, even in their wildest imaginations. So i just want to thank everybody here. I want to thank my family. [cheers and applause] [chanting usa] mr. Trump i really want to thank my team. My team has been amazing. You know, it is actually a team of unity. It is evolving, but people dont understand it. The press does understand it. They just dont want to talk about it. Keep talking. It is very important. Keep talking. This has been incredible evening, an incredible day and week. We went all over new york state. New york state has problems like virtually every other state in the union. Our jobs are being sucked out of our state. They are being taken out of our country. We are not going to let it happen anymore. We are going to stop it. Importantly, and behind me i have to say, we have some of our great businessman of the world. Carl icahn is here someplace. Lebeau, the great steve ross. Steve is building a big building on central park south. It is a tremendous success. They said congratulations on the building. He said, donald, it is nothing compared to what is happening with you. Anyway, we are proud of him. We have our great leaders. It has been really something. It has really been something amazing. Believe me, we are going to use our great Business People to negotiate unbelievable trade deals so we bring our jobs back and we dont let our companies go to mexico and all of these other countries anymore. We are going to keep the jobs here. You are going to be very proud of this country very soon. We are going to build our military bigger, better, stronger than ever before. [cheers and applause] nobody is going to mess with us. That i can tell you. We will take our vets. Vets are great people. We have forgotten our vets. Illegal immigrants are taking care of in many cases better than our vets. That is not going to happen anymore. That is not going to happen. We are getting rid of obamacare. It is going to be repealed and replaced. It is a total disaster with premiums going up 35, 45, 55 . It is going to probably end of its own volition. We are getting rid of it. We are knocking out common core, we are cutting it. It is going to be over, and we are bringing education locally. Local communities will take care of their educational needs. People have been waiting for that for a long time. With all of the things that have happened today, tonight, and over the week, i tell you what, this has been an amazing week. All over new york state, we want to syracuse, we went to albany. 20,000 people. On average, we would have 15,000 to 20,000 people. We went to rochester. We went all over. You know what . The people of this country and the people of this state truly are great and amazing people. We are going to be so strong again. Really. Legitimately so great again. And i just cant wait. So, we dont have much of a race anymore based on what i am seeing on television. Senator cruz is just about mathematically eliminated. [cheers and applause] mr. Trump and we have won another state. As you know, we have won millions more votes than senator cruz. Millions and millions more votes than covenant kasich than governor kasich. Haveially after night, we close to 300 delegates more than senator cruz. We are really, really rocking. We expect we are going to have an amazing number of weeks because these are places in big trouble. When you look at pennsylvania, when you look at indiana, when you look at maryland and rhode island and so many places, we have problems everywhere you look. We are going to solve those problems. [applause] mr. Trump one of the big problems is the economy and jobs. That is my wheelhouse. Again, i want to thank everybody. It is really nice to win the delegates with the votes. You know . It is really nice. [applause] trump]anting mr. Trump nobody should be given delegates, which is a ticket to victory. And it is not a fair ticket. Even though we are leading by a lot and cannot be caught, it is impossible to catch us, nobody should take delegates and claim victory unless they get those delegates with voters and voting. That is what is going to happen. You watch, because the people are not going to stand for it. It is a cricket system. It is a system that is rigged. We are going to go back to the old way. It is called your vote and you win. We will be going into the convention a matter what happens. I think we are going to go in so strong. Over the next number of weeks, we just saw a poll out of california which is an unbelievable poll. We will go into the convention i think as the winner. But nobody can take an election away with the way they are doing it in the Republican Party. And by the way, i am no fan of bernie. But i have seen bernie win, win, win. And then i watch, and they say he has no chance of winning. They have superdelegates. The republican system is worse. I want to thank everybody. I have great admiration and praise for the city of new york and the state of new york. I can think of nowhere that i would rather have this victory. We love you all. Have a great evening. We celebrate. And tomorrow morning, we go back to work. Tom flying tomorrow morning indiana. Im going to pennsylvania. I will be all over. We are going to celebrate for about two hours. Then early in the morning, i get up and we begin working again. Thank you, everybody. And thank you, new york. We love new york. We love new york. Thank you very much, everybody. Thank you. [cheers and applause] [Frank Sinatra sings new york, new york] start spreading the news im leaving today i want to be a part of it new york, new york these vagabond shoes stray ouro longing to stray right through the very heart of it new york, new york i want to wake up in a city that doesnt sleep healthd im king of the and find i am king of the hill top of the heap these little town blues are melting away make a brandnew start of it in old new york can make it there ill make it anywhere its up to you yorkork, new new york, new york i want to wake up in a city that never sleeps im a number one top of the list king of the hill a number one these little town blues are melting away im going to make a brandnew start of it in old new york and if i can make it there anywhere o make it campaign 2016 cspan takes you on the road to the white house as we follow the candidates on cspan, cspan radio, and cspan. Org. Senator Ted Cruz Campaigned in philadelphia on the night of the new york president ial primary. Senator cruz finished behind g. O. P. Rivals donald trump and Governor John Kasich in new york. Pennsylvania holds it state primary next tuesday. [applause] thank you so much and good evening. Thank you for being here tonight. What a wonderful place to talk about the future of our nation, the future of our constitution. When i was walking in a couple of minutes ago, i happened to pass through beautiful Founders Hall and saw once again, as i have every time, that wonderful saying by george washington. The power of the constitution rests with the people. And that power rests with all of us, and the people of pennsylvania have a very important choice to make on tuesday. A long time ago when i was a little girl, my mother was my sunday School Teacher and she said to me and the rest of her students one sunday morning, what you are is gods gift to you, what you make of yourself is your gift to god. I have learned through the course of my life, indeed everyone is gifted by god. Most people have far more potential than they realize. Regardless of their circumstances. But i have also learned, having traveled and lived and worked ,ll over the world for decades i also do this with absolute certainty. While everyone is gifted by god, while Everyone Wants to live a life of dignity and purpose and meaning is given the tools and opportunities to do so, this nation has been a place of more possibilities are more people from more places than anywhere on earth. And i think it is worth thinking about why because i know with certainty that it is only in this nation that a young woman can start out the way i did, typing and filing in answering the phones for a nineperson Real Estate Firm in the middle , go on one day to become the chief executive of what we turned into the Largest Technology company in the world, and run for the presidency of the United States. That is only possible here. [applause] Carly Fiorina and it is possible here because of the founders. Because you see, our founders were students of history. By the way, i was a history and philosophy major, which is why i started out as a secretary. But that is another story. Our founders were students of history, so they knew human nature does not change. Times change, cultures change, circumstances change. But human nature does not change. There two fundamentals about human nature. One is that every one of us is gifted by god. Everybody has potential. Said, we are going to found this nation on an idea. It was a radical idea at the time. We are going to found this nation on the idea that here, everyone has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That was their way of saying everybody has the right to use their godgiven gifts and fulfill their potential. That was a radical idea. But they also knew Something Else about human nature. What they knew was power, too much power concentrated in the hands of too few people becomes abused. No matter whose hands it is concentrated in. They also knew that challenging the system is really tough. It is a fight. I have learned those things, too. Let me tell you what is at stake now. We know, you know, that we have too much money and too much power concentrated in the hands of too few people. The system does not work for us anymore. The truth is 80 of the American People have figured this out. The federal government is incompetent and corrupt. It picks winners over losers. We have a professional Political Class both parties who spend all their time protecting and preserving their own positions instead of getting the work of the people done. I ran for president because i think we need a constitutional conservative in the white house, someone who understands power belongs to the people. [cheers and applause] Carly Fiorina we need a constitutional conservative but knows everyone of us is gifted by god, each one of us wants to live a life of dignity, purpose, and meaning. Everyone of us must have the opportunities to do so but also understands that too much power isthe hands of the two few power abused. That is where we find ourselves today. But i also ran for president because i think we need a fearless fighter in the white house. Let me tell you something about fighting the system. Let me tell you something about fighting the status quo. I have done it. That is how you go from secretary to c. E. O. You have got to fight the system. You have to fight the status quo. When you do that, it you do more than ruffle feathers. You do more than rock the boat. You make enemies. The people of pennsylvania have a really important decision to make on tuesday. And i had that same important decision to make when i had to vote in my home state of virginia. I had withdrawn from the president ial race. And i went into the voting booth. My dear husband frank is from pennsylvania, so i have spent a lot of time here. My dear husband said i am voting for you, honey. He is my husband. We have been together 30 plus years. He had to say that. As i looked at that ballot, i was tempted. It is a thrill to see your name on a president ial ballot. But then i thought, the stakes are too high. We need a constitutional conservative in the white house and we need a fearless fighter. Long before i ever had a conversation with ted cruz about endorsing him, i checked the box for ted cruz. [applause] Carly Fiorina you know he is a constitutional conservative. He has fought to defend the constitution all his life. You also know he is a fearless fighter. While some people will say he has made enemies, i personally am encouraged that he has made enemies because that is when it takes to fight the system. You have got to be willing to make some enemies. I know there are a lot of people in pennsylvania who may be our thinking of voting for donald trump. I know some people who voted for donald trump. Let me talk to the people who think they will vote for donald trump. I think who are voting for him think he is going to fight the system. But he is not. He is the system. [applause] Carly Fiorina Hillary Clinton and donald trump are two sides of the same coin. Hillary clinton has made millions selling access and influence from inside the political system. Donald trump has made his billions buying people at Hillary Clinton off, and he freely admits it. He will not challenge the system. He is the system. He will protect it, preserve it, and use it to enrich himself, as he has always done. You know someone from the pattern of their lives. That is how he has lived his life. And so, ladies and gentlemen, it is vital. Theres too much at stake. Jobs are at stake, our constitution is at stake, our freedoms are at stake. We must have a constitutional conservative in the white house. We must have a fearless fighter in the white house. That is why the people of pennsylvania have such an important choice on tuesday. I want you to go into that voting booth, and i want you to check the box for ted cruz. You to, i want to ask get out of your chairs and give a warm and rousing welcome to the man that we must make our nominee and the next president of the United States, ted cruz. [cheers and applause] sen. Cruz thank you so very much, carly, for your incredible friendship and leadership. God bless new york, and god bless the commonwealth of pennsylvania. [cheers and applause] sen. Cruz im so excited to share with you what america has learned over the past few months. It has nothing to do with a politician winning his home state tonight. It has everything to do with what we have seen in the towns and faces that have been weathered was trouble, joblessness, and fear. It is what we have learned looking at factories that have been shuttered in the hearts that are closing. We have learned america is at a point of choosing. The media will say it is about choosing a president. But it really isnt. Our real choice is personal. Every generation must make the same choice. Will we continue to live in the past with what we know no longer works . Or will we move forward to a new and better place . The people in state after state have made it clear, they cry out for a new path. This is the year of the outsider. I am an outsider. Bernie sanders is an outsider. Both with the same diagnosis, but both with very different paths to human healing. Millions of americans have chosen one of these outsiders. Our campaigns dont find our fuel in bundlers and special interests. But rather, directly from the people. Agewideeyed youth of any that have not given up on the hope that tomorrow can and will be better. Ronald reagan and jack kennedy were outsiders. They both represented a whole new vision and vibrancy, a new generation of ideas. Jack kennedy looked forward instead of back to the first halfcentury of world war. He knew america could dream and build if we were set free. Rocketss for war, but for exploration. To us, theed out most powerful force for innovation the world has ever known. There we found new tech trade nears like bill gates, and a young steve jobs. They had vision and the freedom to build a new world that at the time only they saw because they were free. They challenged the way and changed the way all of us live, work, and interact. Now its our turn. This generation must first look inward to see who we really are after years of being beaten down. Years of being told we could not, should not, for with not or would not. This generation needs to answer a new set of questions. Can we . Should we . Will we . Are we still those people . Those dreamers, and doers . Are americas greatest generations in our past or are our best asia ahead . Best days yet ahead . We must unite the Republican Party because doing so is the first step toward uniting all americans. The question is not whether all americans can or will agree on the majority of issues all of the time. The question is whether a majority of americans are hungry to rally around a set of principles larger than any single issue that a politician may use to divide us. Tonight, im speaking to you from philadelphia. It is natural when we talk about our nations earliest days that we focus our attention on the declaration of independence and the constitution. [applause] sen. Cruz and we can learn a great deal about a path forward by focusing on the passionate disputes and disagreements among our founding fathers. Differences that were put aside only because of the way weight and consequences of the foundational principles they sought to proclaim, and the price to be paid if they failed to rise to the task. Today, as republicans, we agree on a lot. Areas of lesser agreement exist as well. But on the fundamental question, are we satisfied with the current direction of our country . We speak with one voice. As j. F. K. Did in the 60s, and as reagan did in the 80s, to chart a new American Journey forward. One that is not led by me or anyone in washington, but by you and millions of others just like you. One where we still have differences, yet we choose to concentrate on what we have in common. One that lifts others up and believes in the rights, responsibilities, goodness, and the strength of all mankind. We have so much that binds us together. Our families, our work ethic, our ability to dream and build unlike any people in history. Charity,of all, our our love for our fellow men and women, and our willingness to sacrifice for those in need. Let us unite on the things that have always made us great. We are great because we are good. Because over and over again, we have chosen courage in the moment of crisis. Freedom in the face of compromise. And hope in the face of challenges that everyone told us could not be overcome. President ran on a slogan that should have been a great first step. It promised us, yes, we can. Now is the time to take that slogan and put it into action. Yes, we can was a recognition of the hope we can and should recover. Barack obamas prescriptions only lead to more elitist control from washington and less freedom for the people. But now is the time as americans once again to reclaim the hope, to take another giant leap for mankind. To speak the words with all the power and might we can muster, and use the words that have changed the world time and again. The words the slaves yearned to hear from the American People and from Abraham Lincoln when they cried out for freedom. The words in europe and britain heard when they cried out for help feeding totalitarian evil in the 1930s. The words that led two men in North Carolina to be the first in flight. And a half century later, the first man to reach the moon. And decades later, two men in their garage came up with apple. They are the words that will repair our tattered spirit, lift up our economy and those barely making it. They are the words that will vanquish the evil of isis and return the rule of law. They are the words that would americans come together and say with conviction change the world. They are the vision of this campaign. , but now,e can yes, we will. [applause] sen. Cruz we will restore our spirit. We will free our minds and imagination. We will create a new and better world. We will bring back jobs and freedom and security. We will find new ways to ignite an Energy Revolution with more jobs and greater choices. We will defeat the evil of islamists and isis. We will live as neighbors, friends, and family in peace once again. We will heal the sick, feed the poor, and defend the defenseless. We will restore our rightful place in the world. We will do what americans do best. We will live for others. We will change the world through the hope of freedoms enduring promise and our unrelenting spirits. You can be empowered. In a digital age, it is all the easier for your individual voice to be heard. Your choices to govern your work, or education, your future, if only washington will get out of the way. Ofn me now on this journey less talk and more action, real solutions, because i know you. You may have been knocked down. But america has voice and best when she is lying down with her back on the path of the crowd has given the final count. It is time for us as a nation to get up, shake it off, and be who we were destined to be. Dont let anyone try to convince you otherwise. Here is the truth. You dont need me or any politician. But we do need each other, all of us coming together as one as we, the people. Because not only do we say, yes, we can. Beginning here and now, we pledge to each and every one of us, yes, we will. [applause] sen. Cruz and now, my friends, onward to victory. [cheers and applause] you know, weon started this race not far from here on roosevelt island. Build on the progressive tradition that has done so much for america, from Franklin Roosevelt to barack obama. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton and tonight, a little less than a year later, the race for the democratic nomination is in the home stretch and victory is in sight applause]d [crowd chanting hillary] sayary clinton i want to to all of my supporters and all of the voters, you have carried us every step of the way with passion and determination that some critics tried to dismiss. You, this campaign is the only one, democrat or republican, to win more than 10 million votes. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton but i am Going Forward because more voices remain to be heard. And tomorrow, it is on to connecticut, delaware, maryland, pennsylvania, rhode island, and beyond. We need you to keep volunteering. I hope you will join the 1. 1 Million People who have already contributed at hillaryclinton. Com. Most with less than 100. Because we have more work to do. Under the bright lights of new york, we have seen it is not enough to diagnose problems. You have to explain how you would actually solve the problems. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton that is what we have to do together for our kids, for each other, for our country. So i want you with me to imagine a tomorrow where no barriers hold you back and all of our people can share in the promise of america. Imagine a tomorrow where every parent can find a good job and every grandparent can enjoy a secure retirement. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton where no child grows up in the shadow of discrimination or under the specter of deportation. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton where hard work is honored, families are supported, and communities are strong. A tomorrow where we trust and respect each other, despite our differences. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton because we are going to make positive differences in peoples lives. That is what this is supposed to be about, actually helping people and each other. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton now, we all know [crowd chanting hillary] Hillary Clinton we all know too many people who are still hurting. I see it everywhere i go. The Great Recession wiped out jobs, homes, and savings. And a lot of americans have not yet recovered. But i still believe with all my that is another great democratic president s once said, there is wrong with america that cannot be cured by what is right with america. [cheers and applause] that is, after all, what we have always done. It is who we are. America is a problemsolving nation. In this campaign, we are setting goals, progressive goals backed up by real plans that will improve lives, creating more good jobs that provide dignity and pride and a middleclass life. Raising wages and reducing inequalities. Making sure all our kids get a good education no matter what zip code they live in [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton building ladders of opportunity and empowerment, so all of our people can go as far as their hard work and talent will take them. Lets revitalize places that have been left out and left behind, from inner cities to coal country to indian country. And lets put americans to work rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, including our family Water Systems failing Water Systems like the one in flint michigan. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton there are many places across our country where children and families are at risk from the water they drink in the air they breathe. Lets come back Climate Change lets combat Climate Change the cleanmerica Energy Superpower of the 21st century. Lets take on the challenge of systemic racism, invest in communities of color. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton and finally pass comprehensive Immigration Reform. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton and once and for all, lets guarantee equal pay for women [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton and we are going to keep our families safe and our country strong. And we are going to defend our rights. Civil rights, voting rights, workers rights, womens rights, lgbt rights, and rights for people with disabilities. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton those are, after all, new york values. And they are american values. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton and just as we did in this primary campaign, we need to stand up for them through the general election and every day after that. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton you know, it is becoming clearer that this may be one of the most consequential elections of our lifetimes. Donald trump and ted cruz [crowd booing] Hillary Clinton are pushing a vision for america that is , and frankly dangerous. Returning to trickle down economics, opposing any increase in the minimum wage, restricting a womans right to make her own health care decisions. Promising to round up millions of immigrants, threatening to ban all muslims from entering the country. Planning to treat american muslims like criminals. These things go against everything america stands for. And we have a very different vision. It is about lifting each other up, not tearing each other down. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton so instead of building walls, we are going to break down barriers. And in this campaign, i have seen again our remarkable diversity and determination. This is a state and the country of bighearted, openminded, straight talking, hardworking people. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton you know, like john, the firefighter from the south bronx that i met shortly after 9 11 as he searched for survivors at ground zero. And like so many others, john got sick and breathing the toxic air. When we met again last week, he gave me a replica of his fdny badge and thanked me for helping our First Responders get the health care they need. We have to keep fighting for john and all of our firefighters and Police Officers, our Emergency Responders, and the construction workers who did so much for us. [cheers and applause] maxine, ainton for 27yearold single mom from Staten Island, who is here tonight. She shared with me how she worked her way out of poverty, graduated from college, thanks in part to the help she got for her child from the Childrens Health Insurance Program that we started in the 1990s [cheers and applause] or mikey, whon spent is mikey here . Mikey spent six months in rikers for a lowlevel drug offense. And he found out how hard it is for people who have done their time to find jobs will make it out. Mikey managed to start his own ice cream shop. I took a lot of you there yesterday. I highly recommend it. As you might have seen, i could not stop myself from eating it as soon as i got it. By the way, he made a concoction for me called victory. [cheers and applause] mikey is one of the many reasons why we have to reform our criminal justice system. [cheers and applause] make sureinton and others have a fair chance to succeed. New yorkers and americans speak every language, follow every faith, hail from every continent. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths in the 21st century. Not a weakness. As Robert Kennedys senate seat i was honored to hold once said, we are a great country, and unselfish country, and a compassionate country. And no matter what anyone tells fromr what you might hear others running for president , that is still true today. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton america is great. And we can do great things if we do them together [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton so, please join us. Text to join, go to hillaryclinton got tom hillaryclinton. Com. Be part of this campaign. I know how important it is that we get the campaigns resources from people just like you who chipped in 5, 25. I am grateful to everyone of you. And to the volunteers who have worked your hearts out [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton to the community leaders, members of the state senate and assembly, county executives, mayors of cities large and small, and to the mayor of new york, and our borough president , and our city council Hillary Clinton and your governors, our senate delegations, and all of my friends across this wonderful state of hours, thank you. We will go up against some powerful forces that will do, say, and spend whatever it takes to stop us. But remember, it is not whether you get knocked down, it is whether you get it back up. [applause] [crowd chanting hillary] Hillary Clinton there is a remarkable young woman here tonight. Her name is erica. She lives the truth of what i have been saying every day. Themother, dawn, was principle of sandy hook elementary school. Protect herying to children, her students. Erica was devastated, as any Family Member is. She couldnt imagine life without her mom. But then, she got thinking. She got back up, she had never been involved in politics before. She has made it ver her mission to advocate for commonsense gun safety reform. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton like the mothers of many others, erica has turned her sorrow into a strategy, and her mourning into a movement. It isnt easy, but as she said the other day, what if everyone who faced tough odds said it is hard, so i am going to walk away . That is not the type of world i want to live in. Erica, it is not the type of world we want to live in. We refuse to live in that. [cheers and applause] Hillary Clinton my friends, that is the spirit that makes this country great. It is how new yorkers got together and rebuilt our city after the worst terrorist attack on our history. It is how americans worked our way back from the worst economic crisis in our lifetime. It is how it will break down all the Barriers Holding us up back motto of this state is e xcelsiorm, ever upwards. This go up, and when election and all rise together. Thank you so much. [cheers and applause] [brooklyn state of mind playing] it for new york. Hungry jungle where dreams are made of there is nothing you cant do now youre in new york these streets will make you feel brand new, these lights will inspire you lets hear it for new york. I had a dream so big and loud i touched the clouds we danced with monsters through the night to look back, g never going to give it up, please dont wake me now going to be the best day of my life this is going to be the best day of my life, my life i howled at the moon with friends possibilities im never going to look back nowr going to give it up please dont wake me now this is going to be the best day of my life this is going to be the best day of my life, my life this is going to be the best day of my life this is going to be the best day of my life during campaign 2016, cspan takes you on the white house as we follow the candidates on cspan, cspan radio, and cspan. Org. Now senator Bernie Sanders at university park. He talked about, and the economy. [cheers and applause] k you. Sanders than like in state is ready for a political revolution. What a great turnout, and thank you all. Thank you so much. [cheers and applause] sanders i dont want you to tell anybody this. Secretary clinton is getting a little bit nervous. [cheers and applause] she is getting nervous because seven out of the last eight caucuses and primaries. [cheers and applause] getting nervous because when we began this campaign we were 60 points behind and in the last couple of weeks, the National Polls have had us in the lead. [cheers and applause] and to getting nervous because democratic voters know because in every National Poll we beat donald trump. By wider numbers than she does. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and the American People are catching on if we are going to prevent trump from occupying the white house which would be a disaster for our country, we have got to campaign that that does not happen. [cheers and applause] senator sanders this is the campaign that has the energy, that has the enthusiasm and that in november, will create the kind of voter turnout that will not om allow us to the senate and do better in the house. [cheers and applause] senator sanders as many of you know, there is as we speak, right this moment, there is a democratic primary taking place in new york state. [cheers and applause] senator sanders now the polls dont close there until 9 00 p. M. So we dont know who is going to be winning or losing but we are going to do better than a lot of people thought we would. [cheers and applause] [chanting bernie] senator sanders and i want to thank all of the people in new york that are giving us support. One of the themes of this campaign, is the need to reinvigorate american democracy. [cheers and applause] senator sanders right now in america, we have one of the lowest national one of the lowest National Turnout rates of any major country on earth. And i want us to change that. I want to see more of our people actively involved in the political process regardless of their views. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and in that regard, i would hope that in future primaries, electionss in new york state, the officials there make some fundamental changes about how they do business. [cheers and applause] senator sanders today in new york state, if you can believe this, in new york state today, about 27 of those voters are cant participate in the republican or democratic primaries because they have chosen to list themselves as independents. That is wrong. Almost 3 Million People cant vote in that state and that has to change in future elections. [cheers and applause] senator sanders it is absurd in brooklyn, new york, where i was born actually, tens of thousands of people as i understand it have been purged from the voting roles. And it is a little bit crazy that in upstate new york, they opened the polls at 12 noon. What happens to people who get up early and have to go to work . And despite all of that and despite that secretary clinton has won elections for the u. S. Senate and she beat then senator obama by 17 points, despite the fact the entire the new York Democratic establishment is doing with her, we are going to do just fine in new york. [cheers and applause] [chanting bernie] senator sanders and the reason we are going to do as well as we will, is because we are doing something radical in contemporary politics, we are telling the truth. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and the truth is and people understand it whether you are conservative, progressive or moderate is we have a corrupt Campaign System that is undermining american democracy. [cheers and applause] senator sanders democracy is not a complicated process. It is one person, one vote, not billionaires and their superpacs buying their elections. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and when i talk about revitalizing american democracy, if any of you are interested in running for office, i want you to fight for your points of view and run for Office Without having to beg wealthy people for Campaign Contributions. [cheers and applause] senator sanders im very proud. When we talk about a political revolution, we are already accomplishing that in terms of the way that our campaign is raising money. We are virtually the only campaign that does not have a super pac. [cheers and applause] senator sanders we made a decision early on that our campaign does not represent the billionair class and does not Corporate America or wall street and we have chosen not to take their money. [cheers and applause] senator sanders instead, what we have done is we have done is unprecedented. We have reached out to the middle class and working families and if you want a candidate who is prepared to stand up to the 1 who have so much impact over our economy and our political life, support us. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and unbelievably, a million years i would have never present predicted this would have happened. With we have received 7 million individual Campaign Contributions. [cheers and applause] senator sanders that is more Campaign Contributions than any candidate in the history of our country in this point in an election. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and what we have shown uniquely is that we can run a Winning National campaign without being dependent on the big money interests. [cheers and applause] senator sanders anyone know know what the average Campaign Interest is . Thats right, 27. That is pretty good. Secretary clinton has chosen another approach. She has a number of superpacs and in the last filing report listed 25 million in special interest funding including 15 million from wall street. Now in addition to that, as some of you know, secretary clinton has givin speeches to wall street firms for 225,000 a speech. [booing] senator sanders what i have said is that you are going to get paid 22,000 for a speech must be a pretty good speech. [applause] senator sanders must be an earthshattering speech and on the global cries sees that we face and must be a speech written in shakespearian prose. [cheers and applause] senator sanders i cant imagine that. If its not that great. If that speech is as great as it must be, the secretary must release the transcripts. [cheers and applause] senator sanders now secretary clinton has said, well, she will release those transcripts if other people do the same. Are you ready for a dramatic announcement . This is an historical moment. Tonight im announcing that i will release all of the transcripts of all of the speeches i have given to wall street. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and because i believe in transparency on this matter, im going to make all of those transcripts available to you. Are you ready. That is it, no speeches. No transcripts, not for 225,000, not for 2. But im keeping any cell phone on, because im waiting for that phone call from jpmorganchase or Goldman Sachs saying bernie, we want you to give a speech. [laughter] senator sanders i dont need 2, but i would like to speak to wall street and i will tell you why. [applause] senator sanders because it is important for somebody to tell wall street that their greed, their recklessness and illegal behavior seriously hurts the lives of millions of our fellow americans. [cheers and applause] as a result of their actions, their illegal actions, millions of americans lost their jobs, their homes and their life savings and many of those people have yet to recover. Now the other point that i would like to make to wall street is when congress, against my vote, bails them out when congress bails them out because the major banks were too big to fail, turns out 3 out of the 4 are bigger now than when we bailed them out because they were too big to fail. Turns out that five major banks couldnt pass a living will process telling us how they would break themselves up. Turns out, turns out also that in the last week or two, Goldman Sachs, one of the large financial instewings reached a 5 billion settlement with the United States government. You know why they reached that settlement . Because they acknowledged because they acknowledged because they were selling worthless packages of subprime Mortgage Loans and they werent the only bank. Point number one, and i want you to think outside of the box. Wall street is the most powerful entity in the united stated. They have political power than any other entity and yet it turns out that the Business Model from a Major Financial Institution is fraud. [booing] senator sanders and three out of four, when we bailed them out because they were too big to fail, today we have to break them up. [cheers and applause] senator sanders here is another point that gets the American People very cynical and angry. One citizen was picked up for marijuana. That kid will have a criminal record for his entire life. Senator sanders but, turns out that if you are an executive for a major wall street firm whose illegal behavior destroys the lives of millions of americans, is an increase in our compensation package. And that is why we are going to bring justice back to a broken criminal justice system. [cheers and applause] senator sanders i dont know, but maybe thats why they have not invited me to give that speech to wall street. Could be wrong. This campaign is doing as well as it is because we understand that not only do we have a corrupt finance system, we have a rigged economy. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and let me tell you what you arent going to see on television or read in the papers and that is in America Today we have more america and wealth inequality than any major country on earth and it is worse than 1928. I want you to think about it. Because this campaign is thinking outside of the box. Its is not accepting the status quo because it is the status quo but about challenging the status quo. [cheers and applause] senator sanders what this campaign is saying loudly and clearly that when the not 1 , 1 10 of 1 owns as much that is 90 , that istom not an economy that is moral, sustainable or american. [cheers and applause] explainsanders let me what a rigged economy is about. Levelsot just grotesque of income inequality. The Walton Family is the wealthiest family in america. They will not see this on tv. That fact is, walmart is the largest private sector employer in this country, and many of their employees are on food stamps, or medicaid. Pays for those food stamps and medicaid for the employees . You do. Theare subsidizing wealthiest family in america. Th that is absurd. I say to the Walton Family, get off of welfare, start paying your employees a living wage. [cheers and applause] senator sanders when we talk about the economy, it is not just a very unfortunate and grotesque distribution wealth and has to do with income. You probably wont believe it. Google it. Wait a few minutes. Check this one out. 40 years ago, before all of the technology and all of the robotics and all of the cell phones and the Global Economy, guess what. 40 years ago, one person in a family in those days, most often a man, could work 40 hours a week and bring in enough income to take care of the family. I know you dont believe me, but it is true. Today after an explosion of worker productivity and explosion of technology in almost all families, mom is working, dads working and the kids are working and less disposable income than they did 40 years ago. And in fact, im going to give you some news that together we are going to have to address. Young people, you ready for this. Buckle up, because we are going to change it. If we dont transform this economy, the young generation today, for the first time in the modern history of america, will have a lower standard of living than your parents. [booing] senator sanders unless we turn around this economy, we are looking at the end of the American Dream and we will not allow that to happen. [cheers and applause] senator sanders my family never had any money. But my father worked hard and my mother worked hard and the expectation is that their children would do better and thats what the American Dream has been around for tens of millions of america families. Right now, unless we transform our economy, your generation will not do better than your parents and that is why we will transform this economy. [cheers and applause] senator sanders it is not just a rigged economy, it is a broken criminal justice system. [cheers and applause] senator sanders i hope all of you know that in America Today, we have more people in jail than any other country on earth. 2. 2 Million People. In jail spending 80 billion a year locking them up and that is why we need real reform in our criminal justice system. [cheers and applause] senator sanders today, youth unemployment is off the charts. Africanamerican youth unemployment for High School Graduates is 51 . For latinos, 36 , for white kids 33 and our jobs is to make certain that our young people, we are going to invest in jobs and education and not jail and incarceration. [cheers and applause] [crowd chanting bernie] senator sanders and we are talking about reforming local Police Departments all over this country. I was a mayor in burlington, vermont. I worked with the police and i worked with the police all over this country. The vast majority of Police Officers are honest and hard working and have a difficult job to do. [cheers and applause] senator sanders but like any other public official when the Police Officer breaks the law, that officer must be held accountable. [cheers and applause] senator sanders we need to demilitarize local Police Departments and should not be looking like armies. We need to make Police Departments reflect the diversity of the communities they serve. [cheers and applause] senator sanders we need to make certain that every Police Officer in this country understands that lethal force is the last response not the first response. We need to end corporate ownership of prisons and detention centers. [cheers and applause] senator sanders we need to rethink the socalled war on drugs. [cheers and applause] senator sanders in the last 30 years, last 30 years, millions of americans have received Police Records as a result of possession of marijuana. [crowd booing] senator sanders and many lives have been destroyed and this is a racial issue because it turns out that the balck and whtie community do not get arrested at the same rates. But blacks are four more times to be arrested. Today under the federal control substance act, marijuana is listed as a schedule 1 drug. [crowds booing] senator sanders right along side heroin. We mustwhy i believe take marijuana out of the federal controlled Substance Abuse act. [cheers and applause] senator sanders in my state of vermont, and all across this country today, we face a very serious crisis in terms of opiate addiction and every single day people are dying of drug overdose. If we are going to be successful, we need to understand that Substance Abuse and addiction is a health issue and not a criminal issue. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and that means a revolution in the way we do Mental Health treatment in this country. [cheers and applause] senator sanders we have got to make Mental Health treatment available to people when they need it, not six months away. [cheers and applause] senator sanders this campaign is going to win because we are listening to ordinary americans, not just wealthy campaign contributors. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and what working people are telling me from one end of the country to the other, they cant make it 9 an hour. We need to raise the minimum wage. O a libiving is 15 aniving wage hour. It is not a radical idea to sult that if you work 40 hours a queek you should not live in poverty. [cheers and applause] week you should not live in poverty. [cheers and applause] senator sanders a great nation is judged by not how many millionaires or how many Nuclear Weapons it has but how it treats the weakest and most vulnerable amongst us. [applause] senator sanders and right now, in pennsylvania, and vermont and across this country, we have millions of seniors, disabled seniors who are struggling to get by on 11,000 a year social security. And you know what you cant by on that social security. Now republicans, their spodges toresponse to this crisis is say ok, lets cut social security. Well, i got some bad news. We arent going to cut social security. We are going to expand social security. [cheers and applause] senator sanders this campaign is listening to women. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and women are telling me they are sick and tired going to work and finding they are making 79 cents on the dollar to men. [cheers and applause] senator sanders women of this country want the whole damn dollar and they are right. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and i know that every man in this arena will stand with the women in the fight for pay equity. [cheers and applause] senator sanders this campaign is listening to young people. [cheers and applause] senator sanders when we began this campaign, the kind of punditry analysis was, well, young people, they arent interested in politics and too busy with their video games or whatever they do. Well, turns out not to be quite accurate. [cheers and applause] senator sanders turns out that young people fully understand they are the future of our country. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and they want to help determine the future of this country. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and wherever i go, people say, our parents told us, go out and get a good education. Our teachers said, our whole community said we are living in a Global Economy , go out and get that education. But then, young people come up to me and said we did what people told us what to do. And we are 70,000 in debt. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and the question is why are we punishing millions of young people for doing what we asked them to do . [cheers and applause] [crowd chanting bernie] senator sanders we should be rewarding people for getting an education, not punishing them. [cheers and applause] senator sanders just think outside of the box for a moment. Think outside of the status quo. And what our options are. You all know if this country is to succeed in the future with a strong economy, we all need to have the best education possible, am i right . [cheers and applause] senator sanders education is inherent in who we are as human beings and educating ourselves until the day we die. [cheers and applause] senator sanders it is literally insane to be punishing people that you could be paying off your student debts for decades. A womanin my own state of did, her dream was to go to medical school and 300,000 in debt. We need more dentists in this country. Talk to a guy in nevada, 55 years of age has been paying off his student debt, 25 years. He is more in debt than when he took it out. That is not only unfair to the individuals, it is absurd when we talk about the future of our economy and when we talk about Public Education today, it is not good enough to just talk about free Public Education, meaning first grade to 12th grade. The economy has changed. People need more education now than they did 30, 50 years ago. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and that is why when we think about Public Education, we have to think about making public universities, tuitionfree. [cheers and applause] senator sanders with millions of people being crushed with student debt, we have to reduce that debt significantly. And we do that by allowing people with the ability to refinance loans at the lowest interest rates. Im being criticized for thinking too good. Bernie, you are santa claus and lower student debt, how are you going to pay for all this stuff. Think about a couple of things. Number one, in the last 30 years, there has been a Mass Transfer of wealth from the middle class to the top of 1 10 of 1 . Trillions of dollars going from working people to the wealthiest people. Second of all, back in 2008, 2009, this country bailed out wall street after their illegal behavior helped destroy our economy. I believe that now is the time to impose a tax on wall street speculation. [cheers and applause] senator sanders if we can bail out wall street, now it is wall streets time to help the middle class, and if which do that, we will make enough money to make colleges and universities tuition free. This campaign is about transforming our national priorities, not accepting the status quo of today. [cheers and applause] senator sanders this campaign is listening to the africanamerican community. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and theyre asking me, a very simple and profound question. Bernie, they ask, how does it happen that we have trillions of dollars to spend on a war of iraq that we shouldnt have gotten into [cheers and applause] senator sanders but somehow we have seen not to have enough money to rebuild our inner cities. [cheers and applause] senator sanders they are absolutely right. I have been to flint, michigan and what i have seen in michigan was unspeakable and their children were being poisonned. By lead in the water which is impacting their cognitive capabilities. But it is not just flint. I was in detroit, their School System is crumbling. All over this country, rents are unaffordable, unemployment rates are off the chart, too many people are being arrested and being sent to jail. We have got to invest in inner cities in this country and rebuild our infrastructure. [cheers and applause] senator sanders if we can rebuild the infrastructure in iraq and afghanistan, we can rebuild the infrastructure in america. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and by the way, when we rebuild our inner cities and rebuild our roads and our bridges and our Water Systems and our rail systems and our airports, we make america safer and stronger and create 13 million decentpaying jobs. [cheers and applause] senator sanders this campaign is listening to our brothers and sisters in the latino communities. [cheers and applause] senator sanders today we have got 11 million undocumented people in this country and many are exploited and when you dont have a legal right, your employer can do anything. That is why we are going to pass comprehensive Immigration Reform and a path to citizenship. This campaign is listening to a people whose voices are never heard, and that is the nativeamerican community. [cheers and applause] from beforeers this country became a country, when the first settlers came here, the native American People were lied to and treaties were broken. We, as the people, owe the native americaamerican community more than we can every repay. [cheers and applause] senator sanders some of the best aspects of our culture come from the nativeAmerican People. As have taught us that human beings, we are part of nature. [cheers and applause] senator sanders that we have got to live with nature, not destroy nature. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and yet today, despite they have all given us , you go reservations in this country, you see terrible, terrible poverty, suicide rates, horrific. If elected president , we will change our governments relation to the nativeamericans. [cheers and applause] senator sanders i am a member of the u. S. Committee on the environment, and in that respect, i have meant with scientists all over our country , and all over the world. Here is the simple truth, Climate Change is real. [cheers and applause] senator sanders Climate Change is caused by human activity. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and it is already doing devastating harm to our country and much of the world. And here is the scary truth but a truth nonetheless and what the scientists telling us is that we have a very short window of opportunity to transform our Energy System away from fossil fuel. To energy efficiency. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and in my view, in my view, we have a moral responsibility to make certain that the planet that we leave our kids and future generations is healthy and habital. [cheers and applause] senator sanders and what that means politically, what that means politically is we have got to stand and take on the fossil fuel industry and tell them that their shortterm profits are not more important than the profit of our planet [cheers and applause] senator sanders and by the way if we are prepared to think big
