Joe i need proof that Hillary Clinton as a candidate said she would appoint a Supreme Court justice that would get rid of the Second Amendment. I dont believe that. Cannon House Office Building her daughter was going around joe i want a quote. You can tweet me, send it to be, if you have got it i will read it. Caller i will send it to you. Joe i will take a break, we are going to the top of the hour, we are also on cspan. If you have got that i will read it but i certainly dont recall her ever saying i will support somebody that is going to get rid of the Second Amendment. First of all, you cant get rid of the Second Amendment to the United States Supreme Court. We will continue. All right. Articles and one more they did say he would go to the 7 00 hour. We will confirm it. Joe call them now and let them know we are ready. Also, i take it okay. I saw him yesterday. I started thinking about buying a new house, called one of the representatives. Just one call was all it took, back on track to repair it. You know something is getting done. What i need to do is on a service plan. It does make a difference. If i have credit, i have so little and dont understand the value of it. Dreams do happen and all it takes is one call for a cree credit evaluation. Call 6543740. Yes. Meeting this morning, knocking something for next week. Joe all right. You just talked to our scheduler . Okay. He has a 7 00 meeting. Okay. Okay. So next week. Okay. All right. April ryan, 8 00. We are looking for gwen more. All right. We will set up. Joe if we take calls. Introduce a bill. We ought to be defining whether or not joe that is the difference. Look at that. Joe hold on. Joe i will get it. That is not i will get it. King leroy. Joe i get it. The eagles are strong. [commercial break] [commercial break] joe sherry, i have a jack here. [commercial break] [commercial break] joe darrell, darrell, and so wait, slow down. That one employee was terminated, that is the one employee that has been with them since 2009. You got to listen with a third year, read with a third year, listen with a third year. Best political advice i ever got. Here you are, as i was getting ready for this hearing, i decided let the check. What was he doing from 2009 . If you werent nominated for this position, chances are you would not have checked. You would not have checked. And you have president elect trump that nominates, first off, the trump people should have checked. He shouldnt have been allowed to go before the Senate Committee not knowing this. It is called vetting, it is called vetting. The republican senators care . We might have disagreed about the Second Amendment and i will read it but heres my point. This will disappoint a lot of people and lets continue on with the clips. That is absolutely crazy. Is the president elect going to keep his word to the American People. What is the answer . To the best of your knowledge, Social Security. A memo to the republicans because they want to cut Social Security and medicaid so they didnt at that memo. We want to move it. For whatever reason a lot of people are showing up. Including me. We said we would move to a larger room. Some people may not get in. There are too many people. Joe stop. Let me ask you a question. Here is a great question for this audience. Should bloggers have a seat at the white house . Are you kidding me . Are you kidding me . There are too many bloggers. Why should a blogger, look. In this day and age if you really wanted to make sure the media gets information, the way it is go viral, do what most president s have done, you have a pool of reporters and that, most people dont know this, if you dont watch news other than cspan, cspan is live. What you are seeing is real, just doing our thing. Most of these president ial news conferences or when they go on the road they have a pool of reporters. That is why when you look at one network and go to another network, and feeding it for everybody else. The only difference is the stand up reporter. Should a blogger have a seat in the White House Press corps. My 10yearold grandson. Continue. Lets go to the history. Joe that is john h johnson, the founder of Johnson Publishing company, publisher of ebony and jet magazine, in arkansas city, arkansas and he wasnt talking about being Vice President , he was talking about being president of your company. That is what you want, you may have to start jones business and he did. Somebody once asked me, if i had a choice of being on the cover of time magazine, magazines like newspapers other than me. They are looking at social media. They are on the computer screen. Why would you want wide jet, in my neighborhood, in every barbershop and every beauty shop. And if it was in jet it is real. It was jet, baby. You just tell him that . Thanks for letting us know, it is live on cspan2. Back to facebook and twitter or live stream. We are doing what . Broadcasting live on cspan2. Keep going, dont stop. We have a lot of guests today. Joe the streaming. Linkup on facebook and twitter, joe the black eagle on facebook and cspan2 and simulcast to joe madison. Joe i dont understand any of it which is why i wanted you to repeat. This is jim from mississippi, first time caller. Caller how are you doing . I may trump supporter. Im really disappointed in trump for what he said he was going to do and didnt do and turn around and nominate those people, they got Illegal Immigrants working for him, it was all a lie. And trying to stop the inauguration and get them out. Joe we cannot stop the inauguration. That is not going to happen. We are less than 24 hours away. Have you contacted your senator . Caller we have an organization, trying to get to washington dc for tomorrow. Joe they are coming up tomorrow to celebrate. Of the 50 we are coming up tomorrow to find out what the hell is going on. Joe hour from florida, firsttime collar. Caller how about we impeach trump and go all the way behind like pens. Joe stop. We havent even got the man sworn in. That is number one. Can i point this out . Impeach him on what . Caller he is trying to turn america into a monarchy. Joe that is not in impeachable offense. Impeach him on what . This is why you cant just call in the, i know some of you are used to doing that with some talkshows but you cant just call into the joe madison the show and say lets impeach him. Congress impeachment as you know is a trial. The house has to impeach him. You live in florida, you have got to have an offense, a felony, a misdemeanor. That is why i ask you on what charge . That is what you have got to have. We havent even started. I dont want to get into that kind of conversation when i am sitting here looking at one, two, three cabinet members that ought to step down each without even voting for they are to step down. There offenses have tanked other nominees but it doesnt appear that is going to happen here. The reason it is not going to happen here is because republicans are putting power over principle. That is why i asked the question. Are you bothered by that . If you are not you got to explain to the listeners and viewers why not. But you are not a trump supporter. Caller no, i am not. Joe eli just from virginia, firsttime collar. Caller i really i take my sons and ask them to watch everything that is going on because we are getting is watching the good old White Network being built. When i say that is because donald trump, that is what we see, it is special advisers. Carl icahn has just been named as a special advisor, does not have to be vetted. He can keep his every day job but he is special guy on regulatory, on regulatory matters. He can print everything. We are watching the building of the good old White Network and it is something that is extremely scary. Joe 866802 william from louisiana. Good morning. Caller pleasure to speak with you. I want to talk about the cabinet members. We have been watching, talking to my students and i said we are disappointed with the education secretary, she had no idea about failed grants, we were like are you kidding me . Joe not only didnt understand it, had no one of the reasons she didnt understand, no experience with it. How are you going to be the secretary of education . Why would you appoint somebody when the majority of your supporters, the majority of Trump Supporters were rich billionaires, rich billionaires, that would be another argument. I would not expect anything different from any of them. Let me finish. Let me finish. The majority of your students, the majority of Trump Supporters, let me point this out are working class people who depend on pell grants, whose students, whose children have tremendous debt, school debt, college debt. Remember during the primary we pointeded out, it is frustrating, there is more student debt than there is credit card debt. You appoint or nominate, not appoint, nominate somebody who has no experience with that at all, at all. If i were a trump supporter and i heard someone in a Senate Confirmation hearing, not familiar with it, i would be very disappointed. The majority of my students are on pell grants for Student Loans which joe where do you teach . Caller so well a junior college, a Technical School. The other day we had a golf game, i played golf with three Trump Supporters it asked them to you guys have buyers remorse yet . Joe what did they say . Caller two of the three said we do, we really do. It is a shame a con man. Joe this is from malcolm xs movie, denzel washington, this is his line from the malcolm x movie. That is what has happened. Caller one of them said give him a chance. You never gave president obama a chance. Joe this is his chance. This is his chance. He has nominated these people. They have gone before a hearing. You have one man who sits up there and fires an undocumented worker he had since 2009, give him a chance. Another guy who hasnt paid federal taxes, waiting on the estate tax bill to coming it probably the local tax bill, he had a chance. You have a wealthy billionaire who doesnt know a damn thing about pell grants, doesnt know a damn thing about Student Loans as it relates to the issue. I shouldnt say doesnt know anything about him but no experience whatsoever, no empathy, empathy would be the word, no empathy whatsoever, and then people say give him a chance, a chance to do what . Here is the point, these people are going to be confirmed by a republican majority senate. They are the ones that should be held accountable. That is very important. You got to get out there. He is going to be president no matter what. Makes change in the next two years. Joe lets take a break. Who is next . Hannah from ohio, evelyn from new jersey, gerri in the midwest. Lets go to you. And confirmation hearings, dont go anywhere. 8668018255. We also have what else here . Chicago Police Officer charged with firstdegree murder in the offduty shooting of an unarmed man. Yesterday a Police Officer was arrested, charged with firstdegree murder in an offduty shooting of an unarmed man earlier this month. I believe a 28 year veteran, right after this. [commercial break] joe all righty. Where are we now . [commercial break] [commercial break] [commercial break] joe by the way, do i have clint moores no, no, listen. Do i have her comments . Please. She is going, she is going to the inauguration. Trump, did you see where he bragged about a photo of bikers coming to the inauguration and it is a fake soto. Did you find the photo . Okay. All right. [commercial break] [commercial break] joe interesting. Lets go right back. I should point out president elect donald trump said tuesday record crowd the coming to attend his upcoming inauguration claiming to have seen recent aerial photos showing thousands of bikers, thousands of bikers for trump on their way and trump said at the chairman global dinner in washington dc, now they have announced we will have record crowds. I saw the bikers for trump. What is seen. He saw it, he said he saw it, come to find out. It is fake. It is freaking fake. May be it is like the people he saw dancing over in new jersey. Said he hired actors in new york city to go to his rally to build a wall. Joe lets go to ohio. The thing that is interesting is people can get upset, nobody is making this up. This is all real. High. Caller good morning, mister madison. That is what i wanted to call in about, the demagoguery. Like the other collar, we talk about a lot of Trump Supporters i work with, unlike his Trump Supporters they dont have buyers remorse. Anything he says, they take it literal. I know there is demagoguery in every president ial time but every president ial candidate isnt as maniacal, he says things that are so false and outright false, my concern, my question for you is how concerned do we need to be about this level of demagoguery . What i thought were sane, rational people who literally are saying the cia cant be trusted and the fbi cant be trusted and everything this man says is absolutely true. What do you think . Joe you should be very concerned. What do you do with the concern . Vigilance, vigilance, vigilance. With vigilance comes after that action. That is why i always ask the question what are you going to do about it . You get somebody from louisiana, a professor and he says the folks are very disappointed, they are watching this man supposedly draining the swamp, other than he is restocking it with new swamp like creatures and that is what it is, just restocking it, you drain it and restock it. Let me cut to the chase. It was basically poor working class people who found donald trump attractive. You can vote for whoever you want to. They found him attractive based on his promises, they have not gotten what he promised. He has put billionaires, you have a cabinet, maybe one or two exceptions, billionaires. And this is the fake photograph. I wish we could put it on the screen here. With a few exceptions, you are being asked or they are being asked to believe that these billionaires are going to look after the interests of working class people. You nominate a guy who doesnt believe in a livable wage, runs a company, a fast food company, doesnt believe in a 15 increase in minimum wage. You been hire an africanamerican, ben carson, who by the way if he got appointed to any position it ought to have been surgeon general, right . He is a surgeon. And a brilliant one. So do they put him in charge of housing, hud. And he admits, he admits i dont know anything about housing and then you put someone in charge of the budget and commerce who hires undocumented workers and goes to work for a president who says he is going to deport undocumented workers. I got to tell you, like doctor king said the two most Dangerous Things on the planet, conscientious stupidity or sincere ignorance. This is dangerous. This is absolutely and by the way, anyone else, it would have ended the nomination. They would not be nominated. They would not be confirmed. He would have to find somebody else but that is not going to happen. This is on screen. I guess you can go online. People are watching on cspan, this is the photograph donald trump said these are the bikers coming to the inauguration, cspan2, that photograph, that photograph is what he said are bikers on their way to washington dc and it is fake. Go online, put it on facebook, kevin from ohio. How often do we have to be faked out . Go ahead. These politicians that are getting away with not paying taxes it does bother me and it is so widespread, look at john kerry. Joe it is not that i dont want to hear it. John kerry is not running for president of the United States, john kerry, not disagreeing with you. John kerry is not running for president of the United States. John kerry is not nominating anybody for a cabinet position. What you are trying to do is have it. Trying to pivot the argument and the discussion to john kerry. John kerry will be out of work in less than 24 hours so dont tell me i dont want to hear it. You are not going to do this, i wont allow it. I am asking you, i am running the show. I am asking you, i am asking you how do you feel about these nominees and should they be confirmed . I am not asking you about john kerry. I like the choices so far. I think they are great. Joe do you have a problem with a person who hires an undocumented worker . Caller yes i do. Joe should that person be confirmed . Caller maybe there are extenuating joe it is a yes or no answer. I asked you a simple question and you are trying to pivot. Do you have a problem with a nominee that hasnt paid 15,000 in taxes, yes or no. Caller that is a drop in the bucket. Joe im telling you why i am stopping you. It is not a question of it being a drop in the bucket. It is a question of principle. Caller a typical progressive is what you are. Joe now youre going to get into namecalling, now you are going to get into namecalling. I asked you a simple question. Do you have a problem when a nominee doesnt pay taxes on do you have a problem, that we should not hire undocumented work. Kevin, you have got the problem, you wont be honest. I am asking an honest question, you are trying to pivot. You cant fake me out. I asked a simple question and everybody around the world and on cspan2 can hear that question. Do you have a problem with hiring undocumented workers, when youre ready to go to the cabinets and do you have a problem, listen to what kevin said. 15,000 is a drop in the bucket. Aint that a trip . Tell that to somebody who hardly makes 15,000. Give me a break. Evelyn from new jersey, firsttime collar. 15,000 is a drop in the bucket. If the irs called you right now instead you owe 15,000, if the irs called you right now instead you owe 15,000 i be damned if you would say oh that is just a drop in the bucket, no problem, i will write you a check. Go ahead from new jersey. Caller good morning. Joe give me a break, 15,000 is a drop in the bucket. Caller i make it my business to get up early in the morning to listen to you. I will be very brief. I am out from work sick which is why i can get up early and listen to you. I am not a trump supporter, i am very upset, very frustrated with the persons we have to listen to that are being confirmed. I am upset basically because of the differentiations, because of the undocumented people, that ought to be investigated from the jump street. Joe thank you. Caller that should be investigated. We are dealing with people with conscientious stupidity and sheer ignorance. Joe and he wants to get into namecalling. I am sitting here with this article. They dont want to hear it and dont want to answer an honest question. Here is the point i am making. Having undocumented household help has sunk at least two previous cabinet secretary nominees, has sunk at least two but not in this case. Why not . Caller here is the situation what we have to do. We have to be vigilant. We cant wait until two years come upon us to take this action. We must start at the grassroots right now and get opposite people in the next two years. Joe you are absolutely right and let me tell you something else. I just read this. Wilbur ross sorted out the matter in advance of the hearing with committee chairman, republican south dakota, and the committees drinking democrat senator bill nelson of florida, we may have to jump some democrats. Because bill nelson of florida, thanked ross for being forthcoming about the matter. So wait a minute. You think i am going to give bill nelson a break you bill nelson should be held accountable. Thanks for being forthcoming. 8668018255 is our number. 8668018255. Joe madison on sirius xm. The caller from ohio wouldnt answer the question. It was an honest question. He wouldnt answer yes or no or even say i am disappointed somebody hired an undocumented worker. He wouldnt answer that or no, i am not disappointed, he wouldnt answer it and then when asked about 15,000 in unpaid taxes and that is federal, the same person i havent even paid state taxes come out of south carolina. I waiting for that bill to come in. It is a drop in the bucket till april come in and sit down. I am sorry. They are plugged in over there. If you just joe no problem. Dont know what that is going to do. Joe you dont want to see the wings. If they are using it, dont worry, let them decide. April, come to the right. How are you . Thank you for coming in. What did you do with your children . They are almost grown. I am saying, got to get up, get rolling. Was traffic heavy coming in . Must be preinauguration was traffic was not as bad. Joe we came in the same way and it was light. They are getting days off. I heard a lady yesterday saying they were telling people to telecommute, friday giving them the day off. I turn on the tv yesterday just as the president called on him. Could you tell i was like this is the last i was like this is the last press conference of the first black president. I get emotional. Joe you were cool, very professional. Great question, great question and long answer. Joe i am not mad about that long answer. We met a couple days ago, what would you ask the president . I said no. I would ask how to heal be divide. This is the last time you will get a chance to speak to him. I have been called on by each president for the last press conference, you want something soaring beyond today particularly when you dont hear about black america or issues you want something that will stand the test of time. Joe what is your position on Voting Rights . Anthony. You can put the head phones on. April ryan showed up. I should point out on cspan2 is in the house, very happy to have them and act natural and i cant you know about my curse jar. We cant do it on cspan but on sirius xm we are free. This is the howard stern house. We are free, unfiltered. The cspan2 audience is not ready for this. Joe they will be sued and fcc will be all over them. I was saying to myself stern does this and everyone else on the talk format does their thing. We will be decent. What i decided to do. Sometimes it just slips out, what i decided to do, every time one slips, i put a dollar. Not a quarter, a dollar. Joe we start with a base and jar and got to the point that filled up quickly so i ended did the up getting ice buckets to the africanamerican museum. My first month i gave a check for 250 billion, he said keep cursing. But wait a minute. Yesterday did we find that clip . I heard it coming in today. For the press conference. Yes it was. Everybody thinks no drama obama. Behind closed doors i curse. I was joking about it leslie pretty my drop , that is how angry he gets. Everybody drops it. Joe we have parents, my child is in the backseat listening. Then if your child says anything that means they heard it before and probably heard it at home but never mind that. First off, let me do this. I will teach taking calls but i got to tell you i turned on the tv just as i turned it on, the president had just called on april ryan. Lets understand how this works. People may not understand it is not a matter of shouting and getting the president s attention in the press corps. How does it work . Shouting, last time it happened was during the clinton years, we would shout and raise our hands and sometimes there would be a list and george w. Bush came in and it was this joe do they have a seating chart . Yes, they have a seating chart that is predetermined. In the mornings before the press conference, the white house f, to talk to the communications staff, what do you think happened . Sometimes he knows, bloomberg is finding it, he can go to them with financial questions. He pretty much joe American Urban Radio Network. You think i will ask something about race and he was right on. That is what happened. They go into a huddle. Joe he might call on the wall street journal. It depends upon the issue but the first two rose get the issues of the day. For instance the issue about democrats boycotting, that came from one of the front two rose. Joe who is on the front two rose . The wires, radio, tv, cable, ap, fox, nbc, cbs, abc, cnn. Joe the Major News Network that fox is among them. Something i saw the other day. I saw him last night at George Washington University Debate bill press was telling me, we were on our sharptons show sunday and he said at one point the Obama Administration had thought about boycotting or keeping fox out of the press corps and everybody got to go there, everybody, and said you cant do that. They defended fox being there. There have been times you know when a president is angry with the news anchor see that is the piece, the free press. I cant speak to that. There are always rumblings but this administration do if you move someone, the retaliation, the back would be horrific. That grumbling may have been an effort to leverage, get them to quiet down and that is something going on now. Joe what is the rumbling now with the talk, is what we are going to do. We are going to move it to another location so we can get more people in, and by the way we are thinking, i heard a commentator say you want bloggers to coming and i started the first thing this morning, bloggers had a white house, with the White House Press corps . My 10yearold blogs. Lets take this in several parts. I believe a lot of this i believe it is real but also an attempt to leverage the press because they want to get us in control. They dont like some of the things, do your job and report things they may not like. And what he treated people. They can be bad, we can be mad but at the same time the press is there with the first line of questioning. President obama to his credit addressed. They need us in the building for the account ability team and we are getting information on the ground and relay get back to the president. Joe the trump people, at least what i heard them say is you dont need them in the building. In the building we see what is going on. We talk to the officials, the president is not there, people who are working with him. You need to know what is happening. A lot of times we dont get all the information from the white house, we get it from outside and that is where we press them and ask we might hear about a bill or something, someone who has knowledge on the outside will tell us and we press them for answers and a lot of times we get out and when you find out we need to be in a place, watching how you are looking at me, that is where we find the mood, that plays into all of this. When it comes to bringing in this new group, new media that is coming, it is social media, very interesting dynamic for the white house correspondents association. I will go back to when helen thomas left. Joe helen thomas would always be the first person, the first question and because she was with the wire service and ap later. First. What happened is she left, became a columnist, it was a big concern. This was during the bush years. Bush 2, george w. Bush. What happened, this is typically reserved for stand up journalists who do dues. That was a big thing about being a columnist. She was there for 40 years because of who she was historically, once she no longer came they took the seat away and the person who got the first question was ap and reuters because reuters asked the first question at the press conference. Joe people dont know i am sorry, go ahead. Why is it that the Wire Services get the first question . It goes back where we start out from. Way back in the day the wire service fed is the information. We see it off the wire service but now we are all in the same room together getting the same thing at the same time. The wires are still standard, many of us the off of the wires and supplement for us for some News Organizations, 4 American Urban Radio Networks, that is your wire service. Joe one of the things, we are going to take a break but glad you brought up american radio network. We use to get ap radio. One of the things i ask people at sirius xm to do is lets use our American Urban Radio Network because there a wire service and i am glad they agreed to do it. Glad we are here. Joe people get a chance to hear it at the beginning of this hour, that is in seconds. We bring in at a. She is here . Joe they are going to talk about that. Yesterday i slept until 2 00. We had a big party spirit okay. And so you slept in . And i called my mom spirit where did your mother live . Atlanta. I got it. Spirit so the social media piece lets get with the mic check real quick. If she wants to hear she will click it was a party. You were celebrating that youre saying goodbye party, right . Yeah. Can you hear . I can. What are you talking about . Ill tell you later. People were giving a print. The jumbos. It was a former program or something . Sure. Ill keep talking to april. You were talking about the jumbos. The thing though is in the white envelope that the president ial seal on it and was like a beautiful, it was like you need me to keep talking . I dont know what youre talking about. I didnt get those and thus it was like our departure photo. The big picture . You have to buy those. They belong to the white house. [inaudible conversations] whenever you have to go, just let us know. Okay. Do we have the new opening ready yet . I dont know, is it ready . I dont mind. Do you want to introduce it today . No okay. Are you sure . So april ryan, april ryan light . I always want to ask you about your last name. Spirit my last name, its german, and my ancestors acquired spirit have you done one of those ancestry trees . I have not but i need to. Where are you from . Dublin, georgia. Georgia, mississippi, you know. But we did the swap thing and so shes related nevermind. Who issue related to . I always tease her. Its who he says i related to. Nevermind. Im getting it. The president , play that again. Play that clip again. We got sidetracked. Years were ongoing. Was that a dig at trump . It wasnt a big spirit really . When they go low, we go high. I think that your speaking his truth. Was that a dig at trump . I know it was not. It was not. It was not a dig at trump. There isnt this debate going on about why we need a prescott at the white house anything the president is making a point about why he feels we need a prescott at the white house. Yesterday bill press, again i was at gw university, at the debate for the dnc chair, and he said, i dont think as a problem with a repeating it, if he does, top, he said that they may have made a mistake strategically yesterday because it was so crowded. It was so crowded that that now plays into the argument that the trump people are making that you need a bigger space. During the george w. Bush years, tony snow came in as the present secretary. It was just as crowded. When this president came into, this current outgoing president , it was just as crowded. In that room, they couldve had in the eastern which would have thats what bill press said, they should have had in the east room. It still wouldve been crowded. There were times when the room is overflowing. Standing room only, and the issue is this new media, im sure she gets calls from everybody, i know you get calls from everybody, every local paper, every major News Organization to the local church news. But seriously, people feel it is the peoples house. The people feel ive got this blog. Bloggers are the new thing. The question is are they citizen journalists or the accredited journalist with debt with four years . Theres a new norm now and i understand wanting to open it up to different people at different groups and thats going to happen. When the obama scheme and with more chicago papers coming. We had more of a chicago focused. When george w. Bush was very he wanted and then when clinton was there, arkansas papers. That happens with every new president , but once a different with this is the Delivery Systems that are coming in, and the slant that they may have. Are they really going to be considered actual journalists or will be more propaganda . Thats a big question. And space, the combination of the space. Is it 49 shares . And jeff people on the side. It was ridiculous yesterday because when i was walking from my booth and you literally had to get there, it took us at least about 10 minutes. Its like two minutes to walk there. It took us about 10 minutes to get to that crowd. Im not going to get into the specific codes and everything, fire codes but it was pretty bad. Pretty tight. Let me go on because of what to get to the history part. We do this every hour for people new to the show. Every hour i do a history fact or factoid, black history factoid. This hour, 1948 on january 19, 1948, this was the Supreme Court ruling of ada fisher who had applied for admission to the university of oklahoma law school, which she had been previously barred due to racial segregation at the oklahoma law school. So she won. She won the Supreme Court decision. Now guess what they did to her. Spirit what did they do to her . She was able to sit in class but she had to sit behind a curtain. She had to sit behind a partition. But that happened in 1948, january 19. And we do this every hour for people who are new, and once again, look it up and take this factoid and research it. Spirit it makes you want to cry. Hearing that and but you know, its like seeing hidden figures. I sat there and i kept punching sherry and i kept saying, can you, you know, i grew up in that era. I mean, and im thinking, can you imagine if we knew that these women were part of the space program, what, they kind of inspiration that wouldve been for all of us . Exactly. And we sat there, because i can tell you we never thought a black person was anywhere near nasa. Spirit the president gave her a metal spirit i was there when he gave her that metal. And even the head of nasa, a good friend of the show, we took him on a tour here. What was it like they would let him back in im serious. Theres a restricted area back there where all our computers that control the satellites are, right . And so charlie was, and so they were understandably, well, i dont know, should he be allowed to back your . Excuse me, wait a minute, wait a minute. Excuse me, this man can pick up the phone and stop the satellite. So they understood. But talking about the movie, without giving it away for the sentencing, would you like to be the first . His ego, a sense of me, me, me, being the first. That was not that long ago. No. As a matter of fact, listens to the show. Thats what we found out when we were at the ceremony, her nephew or somebody brought her over and said she would like to meet you because we all listen to the show. We have a photograph year of her spirit going to the bathroom, when the white man had to run to the bathroom, she did it every day. Can you believe that . Thats crazy. So the two, first of all, let me point out something in case people dont know. Addie is, yesterday actually today. Today. Today, all right. This is as of today the former director of africanamerican media herded the katz. In the Obama Administration. So added addie was the outreach person. You are the director. So people are listening, so they would ask why do you need a director of africanamerican media likes and then going to ask april answer it from her perspective. You answer it from the Obama Administration perspective. So so please correct me if im wrong, april would know this. I think this position was created for this administration. I dont know that this position was with the Clinton Administration or the bush administration. They had something, it wasnt necessarily something incorporating but they are people who were during the clinton years at a particular interest in africanamerican issues but they did have a specific person. During the bush years and they are people, too. Spin was like a specific position created. Like my colleague it is hispanic theyve always said that but also because of the language barrier. So the reason you need this position is because you need someone to advocate for the joe madison ends and the april ryan spell the world. You did somebody whos at the table saying if were going to do this lets make sure we include april. If were going to do this, if he is going to talk to these people lets make sure joe madison is included. You need someone who can specifically make sure the message of the administration is getting to africanamerican media. Sometimes it may be forgotten. I worked in africanamerican media before. I worked in atlanta. And then when i was in college i was in hsbc as i worked at the radio station, North Carolina and then i worked for Michel Martin when i worked at ncr. Her show was focus on a lot of africanamericans. I know how easy it is for people who are making decisions to sometimes forget that africanamerican outlets exist and that they are vital places to disseminate information. That thing is you need someone at the table to advocate. Ill give you a good example. So last week the president and first lady were speaking about doing an event. I wont say where or how, but it would think about doing an event. So i said okay, if were going to do this, if were going to announce this we got to make sure april is a part of the exclusive. Thats why people like me exist because otherwise it just wouldve gone to the local pap paper. Let me bring this question up, because when i got out of college one of the first things, first job i had was in what we call then public relations. It is now communications, but anyhow. And i worked for a small firm out of detroit, seymour and lundy. This was after the detroit riots and many major corporations were hiring public firms to represent them. And i never will forget im meeting at the National Bank of detroit with the Vice President of communications. And one of the jerry lundy said if youre going to put this story in the Detroit Free Press or the detroit news, youve got to put it in the michigan chronicle, which was the best newspaper at the time. So the Vice President , nbd, yeah, National Bank of detroit, said why . Dont black people read the detroit news and the Detroit Free Press . And jerry lundy said yeah, they do, of course they do, but when they see it is a michigan chronicle, they know its for them. Does that still apply today . Yes, it does. It does. You know, its one of the things, anyone whos inside will tell you theres always this natural intention to figure out how to show the president time. And such little time a lot of people dont realize that. And so the thing is when we do outreach to you guys, outreach directly, outreach to joe, outreach to the papers, outreach to the magazines, we are saying that this is a message we want to make sure africanamericans get. Thats why, im talking to you guys, valve is talking to you guys, someone within the administration is talking to you guys. Broderick, or talking to you guys. Because we know its important to make sure that these outlets get the information that edwin else is getting. So just like when the president goes into a city, he takes, april knows, he has a pool of reporters that travel with him. A small number of people from each media. Because you cant fit the whole White House Group in the room. So april, doesnt still apply . You are with American Urban Radio Networks. This channel is urban view. Does that philosophy still apply, and is as meaningful today as it was when i was sitting in the meeting with the vp of communications at the National Bank of detroit . Yeah, it still applies. Everyone is not in that seat and thats where, thats the vital piece of addie. Im always there but i am there every day and im going to make sure i get my questions answered, or try to. But when youre not on site, and there are thousands of organizations that are not on site, thats what addie, she reached out to make sure. People want to know that she specifically cares. I may not read this Major National mainstream publication that am going to go to my local paper to support my black parent newspaper and wow, they are talking, you feel a sense of community, a sense of the really care what they touch. I know its for me. Hold on a second. I have to take a break, and online if you guys dont mind, so should we go straight to the coverage . What are you asking . April, can we desperately trying to keep her ill listen. I have to leave after this spirit lets take a break and then will come back to Anthony Brown. All right. You know who the boss is around here. Im just labor. Im just labor. We will take a break and then freshman congressman Anthony Brown, and you know the discussion is to you or do not go to the inaugural . Right after this. [inaudible conversations] people are saying be careful. Converging at different minds. Are you going to the march saturday . No. [inaudible] theres a lot of backandforth about this. Really . Im hearing folks are doubling up speed and theres a lot of young black women or saying this. Really. Are they saying why . [inaudible conversations] spirit im hearing even now with trumps people, a black folks who have been republicans for a long time are being called on, some of them are, and well, why are you getting with this . We have been republicans. Its like a whole new group. You want to be in the room but are you willing to do what it takes . Ive got one question before you go. And that is what you think about these folks with trump like martin the third and people are upset. Spirit all right, congressman. And its good to have you back, congressman. How are you . Im doing fine. We try to get, we wanted to reach out to a freshman congressman, to follow them through the first year. Because thats a unique experience. It really is. Its not an original idea because Bernie Sanders was on my friends, the Thom Hartmann show that they used to call it lunch with bernie. It was every friday and he did it for years because thom hartman would broadcast from vermont when you lived there. So its not an original thought. I have very few original thoughts anyway, but i said, here we got a freshman congressman from maryland, lets give him up and talk to him periodically, what its like, sometimes just find your way around capitol hill. Ive got to start with this question because i know your time is valuable year. Have you decided whether or not you will or will not go to the inauguration tomorrow, congressman Anthony Brown, representatives of marylands fourth Congressional District . Yes, i did difference will also want to say morning to april and addie. I hope you all are well. Doing very well. Being part of the one at 15th congress. Joe, as to your comment to be on this one with you. Joe, as to the question, i did make a decision and i announced it via facebook and twitter. And i basically, you know, announced that that i will not be attending the inauguration. It was a difficult decision. I had been thinking about it for several weeks, and i was really leaning towards going because i do think its important that you have a presence, that you are engaged and it is for better or for worse this and historic day, and i wanted to be a part of it. But i wrestled with it and primarily because of the months and months of just the unrelenting insults and disparaging comments and remarks toward so many different groups and so many different people by mr. Trump that the Tipping Point for me was when he insulted john lewis, not just the person but congressman john lewis and the office that he holds, the people who he serves. And that was the Tipping Point, i decided im not going to participate in that celebration. April, you want to ask thats very interesting that you say that but ive got something i wanted to reach you and see what you thought about this in light of what you said. Elijah cummings announced yesterday i was going to call Elijah Cummings to see what his position is. I had his position right here. Spinning you know he is listening. Go ahead. I know. He can call in. Congressman cummings said i realize some of us have to be there to stop bad things from happening as a last line of defense, and force republicans to get a job at old child accountable to the American People and the rule of law. God the process guard the process and promote spending which uplifts the lives of all americans and citizens of the world. And gwen moore from milwaukee pretty much issued the same type of statement. She plans to go, but her position was, you know, she wants trump to see the face of resistance, you know. But this speaks to, does it not, i do want to put words in your mouth, congressman brown, that we are not a monolithic people. Caller exactly. Im going to call it a clan we see more and more democrats, democratic members of Congress Announcing that they will not attend the inauguration. Its not a coordinated effort and its not the only way to express concerns about the president elects conduct, his speech, his behavior, his proposed, his proposals. Theres a lot of ways to do it, and i will be joining with Elijah Cummings and other members in support of whether its funding measures or legislation to protect and defend the things that we value, like access to Affordable Health care, public education. My absence on friday doesnt suggest or should not suggest that i will not be engaged in the real fight and the real battle and the real work, and where possible in the real sort of consensus unifying way or we might be able to find Common Ground with the administration, if it exists. Before we go on, april has to head out to another meeting and they did not, i would be remiss if i didnt point out, she got a brandnew book and i finish thats really great, at mamas knee. And boy, i mean, what an understanding of the impact of not only her mother that she had on your life, april, but about women in general, about women spitting strength of women and their influence on the heart. It comes from the heart and how mothers influence president obama talks about his he talks more about his dad. He talks up when his mother did for him. Harry belafonte, congressman john lewis and cory booker and the first mother who is the first lady, the impact, because i thought his comments yesterday about his daughters were amazing. You know, and what he said about Michelle Obama in chicago. I mean all out. I really, i told, i was on the show and i told him im glad he did it because we do not hear, particularly black men, saying these kinds of things. You get just the opposite many times spirit change the dynamic and i pray people pick it up. What did you say . Okay. So anyway, i was just getting instructions and then told once again to remind people we are simulcasting on cspan2, and people can get the book. They can order it at mamas knee its on my list. Did you click the button just now, congressman collects hello . [laughter] spearing shes selling book. On the madison shell. That is true. And its funny, were just talking about Elijah Cummings, and in studio i have three tv screens. I always see you guys and theres cummings talking about his position. Caller i joined elijah as a cosponsor on a very important piece of legislation spill what is it . Caller its too great an independent commission to investigation to look at russian interference with democracy. The overwhelming majority of americans, democrats or republicans, are concerned about russian meddling in our democracy, regardless of the support for president. And so elijah is out front on a lot [inaudible] unfortnuately, we are having some technical issues with our signal from the joe madison way to show broadcasting live from the sirius xm radio studios here in washington, d. C. We are working to correct the problem. We hope to return to live coverage shortly. This is cspan2. We have to use that time to advocate not only within congress but, you know [inaudible] [audio difficulty] and we have to use it effectively, make it clear argument, a clear case, and when we do, i think that we will be successful. For the purpose, the name of the bill so that people can at least look it up, republican or democrat because of this really ought to be a bipartisan issue. Caller right. I dont have the exact title in front of me but i think if you google Elijah Cummings and Commission Russian interference democracy with these Search Engines nowadays youll find the bill. Thats one thing i know to say we know allies is not listening to the show because he is live on cspan. Well, i mean, not cspan. Im sorry, cnn. Cnn. We are live on cspan2, but somebody will call in and say you dummies, hes not listening, writing away. Thank you, congressman. We will be talking again. Thank you so much for taking the time and appreciate it. Caller thanks everybody. Let me ask you, addie, just, since this is officially your last day. How long were you at the white house in that capacity . I was at the white house a little over two and half years. And so if you had to write a journal, how would you describe that experience . So last night, its funny you ask me. Last night, over these past few weeks i feel my colleagues reflecting and i think we all come to the same conclusion because we are just now beginning to wind down. Its been so hard to adequately put into words. Im overwhelmed with emotion right now. I cant say great, amazing, wonderful, to put into one word would be so hard. Because you have this front rows of history with something i could have imagined. If you wouldve told me, if joe madison wouldve walked up to me 10 years ago and said you will work in the white house for the first black president , i would think of something strong. Hes talking about a black president and me in the white house. That doesnt make sense. But if i had to, just looking back and if i had to journal at all which i have done in some ways, i would say that this was once in a lifetime. Thats the one thing that comes to my mind and its not anything flashy to say but it really is one of those things were everyday you walk through that gate and you see the white house and you are like okay, the white house but it means something because barack obama speak im going to ask some very interesting questions. Do i need to take a break . Okay. I will ask this and you can spirit ive got time. But let me tell you, weve, we kind of laugh about it but we know how serious the position is. And that is Valerie Jarrett position as senior advisor. You know, when i think about you go from Valerie Jarrett to whats his name with the trump . Steve brennan. Bannon. God. My god. Anyhow, but i will get, thats another discussion. Ill save that for the opening line. We always kind to smile and say she was like mama bear. Thats our nickname for her around here now, that shes like mama bear. But i have had tremendous respect for her because shes so professional but she dont play spent she does not. And i think its that chicago political experience that she brought to the white house. I may be wrong but you tell me. You are exactly right. She doesnt play, and shes been the quintessential role model. A lot of people like to say for black people or for women. Shes been the quintessential role model for everyone because if theres anyone at the white house who has to deal with almost everybody who comes to the gate, its boundary. And to deal with that many people on a daily basis is crazy. So many of us, joe, youre are probably the second one who deals with your callers and people stop you on the street. Value is right there when the door swings open to the white house to speak to anybody who wants to talk to her. Shes very accessible. The one thing i was surprised about when i got there was how responsive she was. You email her, you get a response. No matter what it is, there might be a couple of things i didnt get a response back on but not many. You are absolutely 100 correct. A lot of people say her job is complicated. Its not collocated spirit let me tell you, we were big fans of, what is it, castle. We had gone for the past two years and valerie and first lady, Michelle Obama, have been there and theyre usually across the way in special seating with the owner. And i have literally text valerie and say hey, im here, and she will text back and go where are you . Unit, where are you sitting . Im serious. Im serious spirit incredibly responsive. She has very much an open door policy. Like his itches like mama bear. She is. She will tell us what we are doing right. She will tell us what were doing wrong spirit but will she tell the president . Let me say this, did she or does she tell the president when he is right and when he is wrong . I think she gets her perspective. Ive never been in a situation with her when she said you should do this differently. She will give her perspective and she will get a perspective of what has been Public Opinion or related to her to is what this person thinks, this is what that person thinks. Heres a way to think about doing it. Ive never been in a situation where she said you are wrong. Final question before i go to lou, take a break and go to lew hunter. I did get a photograph of the radio personalities come the africanamerican radio personalities that were brought in because the president wanted to know what i should come you tell us why we were brought in. Because disputed then i will ask whether we brought you in because this was an annual thing the president , he would bring you guys in and ladies. And latest to get a perspective of what you guys are talking about what you are hearing, how you guys, what should we be talking about with, how can we be helpful in some way, you know . Mr. President , this is what we think youre doing right, what youre doing wrong spirit those conversations were very candid. Thats why they were off the record. There were no like reporters coming in. He liked it that way. There was a reason we did that last month on his birthday because that was something he liked i remember that. It was his birthday. She loved to doing those and the reason why is because hes always had a connection to black radio. Whats the dj who just passed away in chicago . Doug banks used to be in our group. Right. Doug goes way back, way, way, way back. So does her. So the thing was he had a connection to her as he does come into you and to april and to tom and all these guys because of the thing is, heres someone everyone listens to. Right now everybody listens to either you or joiner or any number of people, and he knows thats the way people in the community am i wrong that he also knows we are going to tell it like it is . He knows. He knows, there are times, why is it joe talking about this . And then its like its your job. Yesterday, its your job to be a skeptic. Its not your job to sit there and just say everything that we want you to say. Thats not your job. Your job is to tell it like it is. Tell it like you see it. Im glad you said that on you because people think its a party or theres just kumbaya or you can only go if you agree, and it is never been like that. Weve sat there and said okay. But as i have said, anyway, i said it. Lets do this. We have to take a break. You are welcome to stay for a little bit if you like, you know, you got your resume. Get your resume. Lujan is coming up who is of course sirius xm radio host and heard here on saturdays and well talk about his Financial Fitness to a real quick, hes in another city today, right after this. Sherry . Sherry . Did they get the scene in thing on you got it. Okay. Spirit we were told congressman cummings may want to call in. Thats fine. Okay, thats fine. Good, all right. So he was listening. Before he went all right. And i know weve got callers, but what can i say . So are you going to stay here or go back to atlanta, or you dont know . Maxine waters. Maxine waters at nine . But im looking, my light is thats okay. Its just that i am having to do this. 45, 46 . Okay. Im slowing slowly drawn to the conclusion im going to leave d. C. Either atlanta or new york, you know. What about our friend kevin . Kevin will have some kevin better email me back. I sent him a nice email thanking him for his help and that type of thing. You will be hearing from kevin. I dont want to get ahead of him on this. I dont want to make an announcement on camera. No problem. But yeah, yeah. Im going to atlanta next week. Like i told everybody, the first time, like today, i forgot my other phone and i was like thats right, because youve got my work phone. When i turned it in it was like, you know so everybody has to turn in that work phone. And we were talking about how personal this was. Because yet so many staff on board, you have this little setup. You go, the larger papers and everybody in the right department is in this room. I said, i gave to my computer and it like okay. Thats it . We dont get a hug or anything . Know. Good luck. Thats what people dont see. They really dont see that, that part of it. And it has to be that way because it has to be done, the transition has to be so quick. We still have a couple thousand people because the art boarding process has been, i think once we got that off boarding started off boarding . Thats what they call it when they sign you out. Off boarding. All right. All right, so lujan, the first time we talked to him he was on his way to the first city 2017 Financial Fitness to her. He does is every year. And by the way, for those of you watching on cspan2, dupont, a cpa tax guru entrepreneur, attorney and yet, he does my taxes. Yes, he does, and has been for years and is a pro. Let me tell you. But you can hear him saturdays from 9 a. M. Until 11 east coast time, and then they repeat two to 4 p. M. And on sundays, thats right, you work on sundays 12 noon to. All about on urban view. So lou, it was l. A. , is that where you kicked off the tour in los angeles . You are absolutely right. We started in l. A. And we moved to dallas, last night we just finished up here in atlanta. And i we were just talking about at his stomping ground. You are in atlanta, okay. Atlanta, and have to say the people have just been extraordinary and i have been amazed at the depth of questions and the enthusiasm. And as you know, joe, we spend that session come usually starts about 6 30 mac goes until about eight. We spent that session talking about financial help and wellness. We start off with taxes but ive got people that ask about tax efficient investment strategy. Tax savings for selfemployed individuals. We even talk about personal financial budgeting. So its a great opportunity for facetoface dialogue. And i think what many, many people value is the q a. So they come armed with questions. I had somebody last night in atlanta say, lou, ive been in social sciences for a number of years and want to start my own nonprofit organization. What are some of the basics, what is some of the dues and donts, what approach should i use . And something that you recommended from time to time when you had me on is you said what if somebody travels because well be in nashville, by the way, on friday, and a week from friday will be in new york city, thats the 27th. But you always said, you said what happens if someone comes from another state or another city . And you said what other tax consequences . I said, if they are in business, chances are they will be able to treat it as a deduction. But weve got people who are not in business. For example, in atlanta who came from North Carolina, we had somebody coming from i think it was arkansas. So folks are coming in from the region of these areas city to just sit in and participate and talk frankly about Financial Fitness. Let me ask about one question that deals with families, and that is about some of the largest deductibles for families, i know you talk about business, but say for families. Caller yes. You know, the thing that we look at for families, and i speak about his drink the session, is how we can transition tax debt, that is, nondeductible interest that carries nondeductible interest to tax debt that carries deductible interest . And this, joe, involves a little bit of rolling up our sleeves and look at our credit score, make sure we are eligible, got a decent credit score. I have been encouraging people to reexamine whether they should refinance. Some of the Consumer Debt thats at 1819 interest and convert that into a home equity or converted into a refinance mortgage where they can pull out cash and apply that to the high interest Consumer Debt. So this is one area that we are looking at for families. We are also encouraging families to take a real close look at these 529 College Savings plans. We have been for our grandchildren. Caller and so you are smart. Again, ill let the out of the bag on this one but what im also bringing to the attention of many people is the 529 plans can only work for your kids and your grandkids, but you can use it. In what way . Caller you can use it for qualified education. Really . Caller yeah. So heres the deal, joe, where someone goes through, you know, kids and grandkids and they dont quite take the direction that they hoped and the indepth with six or 7000 in a 529 plan. They are about to retire or they need to make a career transiti transition. Okay. Caller so they want to go to a Community College or to a Vocational School or Technical School to readmit themselves. They can use the money from the 529. Even if it was meant for the child or grandchild . Caller yeah, because youre the power, the Legal Authority to change the beneficiaries of the 529 plan. See . So whats again when we do these Financial Fitness seminars, we are really trying to explain to People Strategies that can help them live their life in a financially productive fashion. We can always talk about Tax Deductions but we are really saying hey, how can you use the tax code to promote your financial life, not just this years but in years to come . So weve done that. Weve talked a little bit about financial legacies. Because ive explained to people, which again is an eyeopener for many people, is that a roth ira for example, can be used to pass along a financial legacy to your children. Let me ask you this. Ive got a caller. Keith is calling from maryland and he wanted to jump on and ask you a question, lou hutt. And then i will give out the website or where they can get information so that they can sign up because they do have two call and make a reservation to be part of the Financial Fitness to her. Go ahead, keith. You are on with the lou hutt. Overhead. Caller good morning. Not a lot of time. Real quick. Caller iwork a job nine to five and also, my question to you is, is there anything, i know you know, that made a lot of us uber drivers may not know when we file our taxes. Thats a great question. Great question. Guest , listen, i would say this. Im going to put it very generically. Ordinary and is for business expenses for any selfemployed individual is something were going to look at very carefully. With uber drivers its everything from training to marketing. Its potentially and i say this potentially, potentially home office. So weve got to look at upper right of things, how you promote your business. Obviously you use your telephone in your business. We can talk about healthcare deductions. We can talk about Retirement Savings based on the net income you derive from your transportation service. Spirit is maintenance of the car . Sure. Weve got a ton of things to be honest with you that we can go through. So the best thing to do, and im going to give this website out just for the benefit of people to want to be at the fitness financial tool but also for you and others. Go to louhutt. Com. Drop me a note and we can set up a phone conference. If nothing else, just to talk about your situation. Caller okay. I will do that. A bunch of uber drivers. You are in business. You absolutely are, and you might as well take advantage of the deductions that are available for businesses that, you know, lou, where will you be now, real quick, where is the next location and how can people sign up, quickly . We will be in nashville tomorrow. That is of course friday the 20th. We had been going to be in new york on the 27th. Very easy to sign up, joe. Just go to louhutt. Com. We would love to have you but the only condition is, you have to register because there are space limitations. Im going to try to get my friend. You know, hes a self businessman. He needs that, bb, if youre listening, where is at the location . Well, joe, in nashville its going to be at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel here in york its going to be at the new york marriott marquis. You didnt say trump tower. Im just kidding you. Im messing with you. I messing with you. All right, so you got it. National renaissance and thats tomorrow. What time . 6 30. But people have got to register. You have to register we do some book signings and we take a lot of great pictures. Lou hutt, appreciate it and we will be listening to saturday nine to 11 east coast, and again three to four and then sunday noon that you, channel 126 right here on urban view. Thank you, lou. Youre welcome. So, where is my goal . Okay. So, congressman maxine. All right. I take it shes out on the web posed . Okay. Tell darrell to have her clip ready. Okay, all right, all right. It was outstanding. Ford does this thing, the men of courage. We thought it was okay, the men of courage. Yet, so what they do, and they bring all these black men together, different asians, intergenerational and most of these guys dont really know each other. And they have these stations at these tables. So they all sit down at the table and then they talked about the challenges. You know, like a young student, one guy we had at our table, he went to college. He got a full ride, his scholarship not far from chicago. So with some of the top entrepreneurs in the country. He at one point goes off to college, gets on campus and he says folks made me feel like i didnt belong there and he ends up calling his mother saying hes leaving because he just did not feel he belongs and his mother said now, youre not leaving. Youve got a full ride. Youre going they bear, fight this out. You know, a proleft and went over to msnbc. And so, he just talked about how he felt, you know, so another gentleman who owned a ford dealership, a lincoln ford dealership and theyve talked about how you felt when he went to syracuse. An allblack and had never gone. He went to syracuse. It was like a cultural shock. But he said he finished school on time, became an allamerican. Got good grades. One of the top 15 nba players of the century. He would stay. The young man did stay, ended up being one of four magazines top 30 entrepreneurs under 30. One of the things i told them, you know, got into school because they play basketball. The reality is nobody gives you affirmative action. Once you get in the door, youve got to stay and youve got to get out and youve got to get out like everybody else gets out. Ive never had a professor in me an affirmative action. So i had to take the same exams. Okay, all right. Maybe ill ill come back to the discussion. I have to go to a childhood friend of mine passed away from atlanta. He had cancer and he passed away, so im actually off to be with his wife and family and friends. Sorry to hear that. Yeah, he fought the good fight. His wife really took care of them. And we all grew up together. Elementary school. Weve known each other 60 years. Im certain its been not long. Sherry says you guys from dayton, you all are like family. Everybody knows everybody and they stay together. So mr. Soontobe former president , heres what you do. Each of the madison show does, get a cursed jar. Ive got a cursed bucket, so every time i curse i put a dollar in. [inaudible] not today, now. We are on cspan2. We will talk about it with the cameras. So i put a dollar in and out end of the month i donate the money to the africanamerican museum. At it, you are listening to the censored version. You need to hear him unabridged. I wouldnt do that to cspan2. We havent done it. Tell the president thats all they have to have, just get a cursed jar. I will tell him that. And then donate to lonnie bunch. Let me tell you, i gave lonnie a check for 250 a first month. We are in serious xm so we are unfiltered. So we were talking before. We are waiting for Maxine Waters to call in. We are going to be talking to her because she has wanted out. As a matter of fact, before john lewis said a word about not going, she wasnt going. She couldnt need john lewis to motivate her. What did the president say yesterday because you were still on the clock yesterday . But what did he say yesterday . I dont know if we have that. You have the clip of what he said about the boycott because he was asked about it because april did bring it up. Do you remember . I dont. Im pretty sure he probably called for it to come together, which you know, has been hard for some people to grapple with, understandably so. But you now, of course hes not going to boycott. He has to be there of course. I gave a tremendous amount of credit to Hillary Clinton has going to go and stay in there because after that hardfought campaign, she wouldve had to have been there. Let me play this clip. This lady i so admire her tenacity. You want to talk about it, tell it like it is. Dont play around congressman cumbersome and Maxine Waters. Period is within interview she did. Just a quick clip and then ill put awry. The inauguration based on donald trump congressman lewis for the result of that briefing. Donald trump in the way he did himself, i was never going to go. I never planned. I never contemplated even though we near [inaudible] i dont like the way [inaudible] i dont like the way he talks about women. Theres nothing about him i would want to be involved in. [inaudible] so, congresswoman, tell us how you really feel. [laughter] well, thats how i really feel. So let me ask, what have been monday, they when youre back here in washington and the real fun begins. Well, i tell you, it is not really business as usual. I feel about what we have to do as democrat is to help educate folks, even some of the people who voted for him and some of them are now discovering that they may have made a mistake. They are having a mars, voter remorse. Thats right. Voter remorse. Weve got to continue to educate folks, but weve also got to keep pressure on the media. Shes asking him about his taxes. Keep asking him, when are you going to reveal your tax returns . The fact of the matter is i dont believe hes never paid any taxes and so thats one of the ends i think that he is not revealing his taxes. In addition to that, the investigation about russias excuse me, still interfering with our election. What all did they do . Was there any collusion between trump and his advocate and the kremlin . I think we need to know that. I dont want to stop even with our intelligence we say we didnt find that they interfered with the voting machine. Well, not every state has voting machines. I dont want to stop at the waters edge and real relation set. Manafort, he was already involved in a contract with the ukraine and the kremlin was all involved with the ukraine in times of taking over a career. So i think theres a lot more to it that has been revealed. And of course, we dont know whether or not the intelligence agencies are diving into the dossier that has been put out on him by some wellknown spy out of london that was paid to do it. Theres too many questions about this man. I am absolutely i am appalled and i dont understand really how he got this far. I know the there are a lot of explanations. They are talking about people who are unhappy in their economic situation. They wanted it to be et cetera, et cetera. I dont know what else is going on here, but i dont think we can start. Weve got to keep taking into wendys and two, wendys and into, what all of his conflicts of interest are. I think there are many. This is what has gotten me convinced that my role and my work is not to go back to washington with business as usual and some bills that arent going anywhere. I was going to ask you about that. We just talked with a congressman Anthony Brown and he signed onto a bill with Elijah Cummings calling for an investigation in the first thing out of his mouth, he said its probably not going to go anywhere. Its probably not. Im not absolutely opposed to those who are introducing bills for the sake of identifying what they are thinking and where they stand in trying to get a message out there by what they would like to see. Sometimes its credible to do that. But the fact of the matter is unless we are using our platforms and our opportunities to speak out to people and raise these questions about his hair, raise questions about his conflict of interest, raise questions about his tax return, we are doing our job and we cant stop doing that. Weve got to make that a significant part of our work. Congresswoman Maxine Waters is with us here. Again, let me point out that we are also being simulcast on cspan2. So that gives me a chance to ask you about your constituents and what are they saying to you . Youve been back home. They are coming to your office. Go into the meetings. Are they with you on this or is it a mixed bag . It is somewhat of a mixed bag, but i am stopped constantly during the holidays and since ive been home out shopping, going in and out of the stores and during the things that normal families do when theyve got to take care of their purse for business and family business. I am absolutely overwhelmed with the people whose. Name and say what are you going to do . Weve got to fight. Keep fighting. I get more of that than not. Some parts of my district are more conservative. I do get some objections, some disagreements with what im doing. I will probably go into a situation today where there will be some who will disagree with me. But now, it is a theme that i believe that i have to do. I am driven to expose who he is and what its all about. All right. We will stay in touch. I always appreciate the fact that the responding sometimes on a moment notice and we will be resisting right along with you because i think that is really what the codeword days. We must read this. You are right. This thing, you said you were going to release those tax returns. Our taxman said hes never seen an audit that has lasted this long. It appears to be just an excuse. But well stay on top of it. Thank you. Youre welcome. Thank you so much. Best to you and your family. I know that congressman Elijah Cummings was trying to get through and what we found out is trying the same language as had Maxine Waters, said the congressman might be in the process of listening and we look at him and as soon as he calls. In the meantime, i am going to take a couple of folks who have been on hold. Since we just talked to the congresswoman from california, its only appropriate we go to richard hes a firsttime caller. Go ahead, richard. Thanks for holding for over an hour. Its a great listening to you. Go ahead, richard. Thank you for taking my call. I really enjoyed watching you over the last hour and listening to everything youve been talking about. I called because i wanted to tell you, first of all, i hope the president is listening. I want ads and hispanic voter, i want to hopefully all of my hispanic people, we want to let him know that hes been one of the best president s ever. Well, adding it in a year coming in now, lets work in the white house over 2. 8 years. You know, are you getting that senate from a lot of people . A lot of people. Have a nice set though. You know, he appreciate everything. This is amazing. Hes walking away with a 60 approval rating. Thats incredible. Im glad he has. History is going to show that he is one of the best president s ever. Everything that is done and i know that the republicans are going to try to dump everything hes done, that history is going to show what part of california where do you live in california . Napolitano was not congresswoman. Sherry is not in her head suburbs of los angeles. Well, thank you. I appreciate it. We have just a minute there i was telling me we have to take a break. But go ahead. How do you feel about Research Team the price . Good question for someone thats been in news coming your feelings about that and not the administration. Youre not on the clock anymore, about the moving it. So i think it is going to be difficult. Making the point about the press briefing room. Let me make another point. There are days where you look out there and there are 10 people sitting out there. It can be 100 people out there. That it was packed yesterday because it was the last. It was josh earnest last. But i remember during the campaign season, no one was in there because everyone was on the campaign trail. It will be days when it adds them close. I dont think they should know that. I agree with april. You raise a very good point. Because its interesting because youre right. You can sit there and say its packed. Its not like that everyday. The public doesnt see a period they would be understood it adds them close. It is not always it depends on the event. So that cannot be an excuse that its too crowded. Thats kind of a violation of civil rights. Not sure if thats right. I dont know if its a civil rights violation, but it goes back to what rachel said. Newmont access. You want the state. Talk to april really quickly. I think thats helpful. These reporters have great access to us. People said right there by the door to the press secretary on communication. When acs coming in and see us going out and because of the fact that their journalists come and they come out in may but was this about . We may not only say, that the plane is if youre across the campus, youre across the prepared at the old executive building, you may not see anything. I just heard this morning that they were letting reporters into trump tower. Well, you see thats private property, so they dont have to. Thats considered a government building now. Trump tower . Yes. Because thats his residence. Well, id have to check that out. Thats interesting. Does their residences. Part of the tower, not just hotels. I think theres turning to quarter off some of the building because of that. All right. We will continue on madison. Ill let you know when we can get back to the phone calls. I dont want to keep people on hold. I do have kathy on hold for an hour. Weve been having some fascinating cast that is topped by an ad he is still with us. Patty please do not. Good old german name. We will continue on madison. Got you. Hey, everybody gets to see me meet the vista print ad. But, i should tell people, ive got this in front of me, but the reality is i also have the vista print business cards in my pocket. One of the great names about vista print and blue nosed this, too is that they support Small Business owners because they offer tons of custom products for home and office with whatever level of design 500 of them at 999. You cant beat that 599 and you can customize the text color, backside, you name it. They even have their own template or you can upload your logo. You name it. Italics, pray. We are going to leave the joe madison radio show at this point as the Senate Energy and Natural Resources may be spending this money to your testimony from Texas Governor rick perry. He is president of trumps nominee to head the department of energy. Politico has this to march in the former governor. My past in nato or five years ago about abolishing the department of energy did not reflect my current thinking. Kerry plans to say this morning after being briefed on so many of the vital functions of the department of energy, i regret recommending its elimination. The hearing is set to start at 9 30 life here on espn2. Cspan2. [inaudible conversations] [inaudible conversations] [inaudible conversations] [inaudible conversations].
