This is going to be an Interesting Development with his running mate, mike pence, who almost kind of entered the witness protection program. No one heard from him. Went to a number of events that, all of a sudden post these comments, were just [inaudible] now hes in charlotte, North Carolina, resuming his campaign but without a lot of party higherups to be part of it. So many of those party chieftains, including the likes of paul ryan, are saying we have to find a way to move on regardless of donald trump. In other words, vote your conscience. If you dont flip over the guy, you dont have to do much with the guy, and im wondering what kind of signal that sends. To dr. Alveda king. I was thinking of you, alveda. Do you get a sense that we are just not in any forgiveness mode here, and if that is the case, then republicans are not, are not going to warm up to donald trump, at least that group that never liked him in the first place and might be using this as an excuse to confirm that . Hi, neil. Im so glad to discuss this aspect. You know, its very important we could think back to the time with bill clinton and monica lewinsky, and it was absolutely terrible. He needed to repent. It was wrong. It was disgraceful to the white house. And yet everybody said lets impeach him, and everybody started pointing fingers. And my point was this, im almost like the woman at the well, woman caught in the act with the abortions and divorces and everything that god has forgiven me for. Im living for jesus now. I said, but if you dont if you live in a glass house, dont do this, repent. They didnt do it. They just pointed fingers. And as we did that, we see many of them fell like dominoes. So my point is to all of our republican brothers and sisters who are now saying distance yourself, this is disgusting, if youve never sinned at all, if youve never done anything, okay. But if you have, this is a time to apologize yourself. I believe, you know, when mr. Trump said i dont have anything to be forgiven for, its like god was chuckling and saying just watch how many times hell apologize before this is over. But now America Needs to apologize and repent. And so to distance rousters and act like ourselves and act like we never did anything is just not really true. Am i giving him a pass . No. Was the locker room conversation bad, the bible says dont let corrupt information come out of your mouth. But i called my son a little name the other day i had to repent. So we need to, lets you know, im voting prolife. Im voting for a good slate of Supreme Court justices. And thats where we need to be with. Neil you know, there was a lot of talk last night ahead of the debate that he had to apologize again. Everyone says, oh, thats not a sincere apology. I dont know how much, how often, how strongly you can do that, but he tried to pivot and maybe effectively so by bringing all these women accusers to the debate to say i might say one hinge, her husband has one thing, her husband has done quite another. When you see a battle going like that i call it the Nuclear Option where its, no one survives. What do you make of that . Well, what was so serious about those points that he was making, president clinton is not running against many trump, of course mr. Trump, of course. But mrs. Clinton, as the attorney for the man who was accused of raping the young lady neil thats right. That 12yearold girl. So hes pointing to that. And my point is mr. Trump has not said this, but mrs. Clinton makes the most beautiful appeal for children and young people, and yet she stands and says i support americas largest abortion provider. So were going all the way up to nine months keep aborting the babies, but i love children. Its sod. And so when mr. So odd. When mr. Trump comes back and says, well, you might say one thing, but you had 30 years to fix it, i think we need to listen to that. The Supreme Court justices are my major interest and concern. I am voting prolife. Neil what do you tell women who are offended . You know, women, locker room conversation is bad. I have four sons and six grandsons, and im on them all the time. They say such terrible things about girls sometimes, and i say thats somebodys daughter, mother, wife or wifetobe, little girl who is going to grow up. You have to watch that. You have to regard me as your mother. And so my sons have a habit of saying all these bad jokes about women, we cant drive, we talk too much and all of that. I said, you must respect women. And so i think that its time to leave all of that locker room communication, leave it alone. But i believe that the most important thing that were going to have to consider is appointing those justices which will save everybody from the womb to the tomb. Ask thats the main point. Do i give him a pass . No. He needs to watch his mouth, but i think he should have a chance to support those justices. Neil my mother would try that with me, but i actually liked it. One concerns all these wikileaks that are coming out including Hillary Clinton and what she was saying behind closed doors and what her advisers were telling r to fess up and do. A lot of them were securityarranged, lot deal with syrian refugees, doubts about the vetting process. I could go on and on about what she says about banks and behind closed doors in public, but the biggest thing on Security Issues is shes concerned. Shes worried. She relays an alarm over the number of refugees we let in and how were going through that, and all of this comes to light when we mistakenly allowed, you know, 800 who were not properly vetted. So i guess what im asking is, does whats the real Hillary Clinton . And for you, what would be if she became president the real president Hillary Clinton . Neil, i dont know. Let me tell you, ive told you before i think im pretty good sometimes at getting inside the heads of dictators and terrorists, but i have no capacity for advancing the understanding of american politicians. [laughter] i always reference that. Neil but you know what . I guess the reason why i raised it though is this issue about she was clearly now, theyre dismissing a lot of these wikileaks saying that the russians did it, so theyre shooting the means by which these got out to us, not necessarily whether theyre accurate or not. If Hillary Clinton was raising alarms about the refugees coming into this country and about whether we were going into the region with one arm tied behind our back and yet publicly saying shes confident the process we have in place is just fine, i dont know what she would do as president. I dont know what her real position would be. Well, i think in a case like that, some confusion is understandable but sort of what i was referring to. I think its the situation in that part of the world is terrible, and its partly terrible because the Obama Administration decided to not draw its line in the sand and not keep assad from killing his own people with chemical weapons and shrug about the whole thing and hand it over to russia. And we now have the russians and the iranians and the, and assad cooperating, and we are on the outside. We dont have nearly as much influence over what happens there for good or ill as weve had in the past. Neil now yet you have these iranianbacked rebels who are shooting on our ships now in the region right. Neil and theyre disavowing that. Certainly, the iranians are saying they dont know whats going on about that, but someones agitating out there. Well, i think the iranians are are involved with lying to infidels which is, for them, not just permitted, but recommended. I think they are, theres this, basically, a coalition in that part of the world, and weve been excluded from it really through our own choice, through president obamas choice. Its a terrible situation. We, were not treated with respect. They fly within 10 feet of our ships, russians or iranians, whether they fire take our sailors off a small boat and humiliate them, this is all very symbolic to people in that part of the world. And we are left to, basically, standing behind and saying, hey, hey, im here, im here, please Pay Attention to me. Its not the way to run things. Neil yeah. Ambassador, thank you very, very much. He says thats not the case, tweeted out congratulations to donald trump last night, and he has also relayed that he had a good long, nice conversation with donald trump last night. Well, we heard enough there from governor pence to say that he is a christian first and foremost, and he forgives donald trump more that coarse language and the tape released 11 years ago and he stands by him. Back with david malpass, trump economic adviser. David, has this issue been put to rest, do you think, and now in favor of the issues that obviously donald trump would prefer, that mike pence would prefer . Because it seems like much of the Party Leadership isnt going along. What do you think . Hi, neil. Well, theres a few more weeks to the campaign. I hope we can talk a lot about the issues. As you look at the two choices americans face in the election, theres a huge distinction between their approach on policy. I think also theres a dangerous on leadership. So, you know, when youre picking a president , youre picking someone whos going to lead the country for some years. Trump has shown an ability to pick good people. Look at mike pence, youre showing him now. And i think he will pick a Leadership Group that will be really strong and be able to engineer an upheaval of the government in washington. Hillary clinton, on the other hand, is going to continue the current government, and that means slow growth, that means higher taxes, that means heavy regulation, Small Businesses are are under the gun all the time under that approach. So trump is going to be the change agent, and so i hope we can talk about that a lot. Neil you might get your chance, but it seems that many in your party are not willing to give him that chance, or they feel that, you know, hes just another tape away from more explosive comments. So when no less than someone like paul ryan says the equivalent of the ted cruz vote your consign thing from the Convention Last summer, thats not exactly a ringing endorsement. Is that right of him to do . No, but lets wait a few days and see how people coalesce after the debate. You know, the way the bad news came out on friday afternoon was, made it very hard. The media was all over it on friday and saturday neil youre absolutely right about that. You cant condone. You speak out against him, and then you find a way to say whats really going to matter for america in the fouryear time frame. Trump, i think, did a good josh last night shifting job last night shifting to policies and making very clear obamacare is a failure. And shell continue it and he wont. The tax system is a failure. Hell lower the rates and make the system 1eu6r7ler, and she wont. Regulatory policy, the same thing. Hes going to make them work better for the country and for growth and for jobs, shes going to make them work worse. And so thats where the election is going, and i think thats the way the debate went last night neil you might be right, but i just see david, but i think youre right on all these issues, but i just see this childishness for want of a better term. Donald trump just tweeting out palm ryan should paul ryan should not waste his time on fighting republican nominee. What do you think of that . Wel think ryan is trying to hold onto t house, but theres also a lot of people in washington who are just trying to hold on to power and to the old system. Theyve done well in the old system. So one of the things for voters to try to think about is whether they want change and if they do want change, whos going to help bring it. I think thats much more trump Hillary Clinton has basically said 2 growth is enough. Trump is saying we need to double that in order to get jobs to change inner cities. And Hillary Clinton is just not even trying, thats my impression. Neil well watch closely. David, thanks more your patience as we broke away for that pence remark good to see you, neil. Neil same here. Caitlin hueyburns, i was thinking about this, and sometimes it happens. Im trying to play this out, this little battle back and forth for the heart and soul of the Republican Party. Im shocked its still going on. [laughter] but lets say donald trump wins and all these establishment or other republicans, whatever you want to call them, have kind of distanced themselves from him or not gone over backwards to help him. I would imagine theyll have more difficulty with people in his party than even the other party. Absolutely. I think win or lose republicans have been facing the prospect of how they come to terms with their own party in november. I do think now though just looking at the polling before all of this news broke over the weekend, donald trump was already behind nationally and in key battleground states. I think while the debate could have the effect of rallying the Republican Party base and donald trump supporters, still not enough to reach out and get the support that he needs. And he has actually really shown no interest this that. So given all of that, i to think that trumps path to the nomination is very difficult, and we saw basically an acknowledgment of that from paul ryan today saying do what you need to do to his members, lets offer a blank lets not offer a blank check to Hillary Clinton. Which, as you know, was the strategy employed in 1996 when republicans saw bob dole heading for a loss in the white house, and they moved their resources neil well, all of a sudden that was very no, you mentioned the 1996 example where they just took money away from dole, what was meant for the president ial contest to focus on house and senate races, even some gubernatorial races. That had to hurt, obviously. But i just keep thinking that they might be, you know, whistling past the graveyard too soon. I see this poll thats out, the wall street journal nbc poll prior to last nights debate that shows Hillary Clinton in a wide doubledigit lead, but i also see a number of battleground states that are still within two or three points, hardly over with about a month to go. So im wondering if theyre, you know, covering their hineys too quickly here. Well, theyve also endured the criticism of, you know, they have had many offramps from the nominee neil yes. And they havent taken them given all the controversies donald trump has stirred up. In talking to republican strategists and such, the big concern among them is this idea of what comes next, what else is out there. And if you dont distance yourself now, you know, what potential fallout do you face later . But another really key point here is the reason that House Speaker paul ryan and other Republican Leaders have been reluctant to completely sever ties from the nominee is because they know they need his voters in the fall, right . For a lot of these competitive districts, they need trumps supporters to show up up and down the ballot. That has also played into the calculation of whether to cut ties do neil yeah, but you know what i think . Youre the expert here, but i think i read a prompter well, so i qualify as well. And i think this is going to be a problem for them. Theyre going to all of a sudden sort of thread the needle here to keep his supporters happy even though theyre dissing the guy they love. Not good. Thats generally not a wise strategy. Exactly. But i also think there are a lot of questions up in the air right now, and were were waiting later today the rnc is going to meet with its members and decide their approach for the next 30 days, whether they will indeed move resources down ballot or keep focusing on the president ial race. That remains to be seen. Just a lot of questions going on right now that the Republican Party is dealing with. Neil thatll all right. It has not gotten cozier. George pataki was urging republicans to reconsider mr. Trump. I wonder how he feels now. Governor, nice having you. Neil, nice to be on with you. Neil what do you make of this . Donald trump is telling paul ryan and others get over it. Where do you stand . It is not a question of getting over it, but question of surviving a horrific candidate, someone unfit to be president of the United States. By the way neil, i could talk about either one of them, but hillary or trump. But his last tape piles on the sense that a majority of americans feel he is unfit to be president. And as republican im going to vote neil he apologized for that three times. He apologized for three times. Im sure do you forgive people . Sure. That was one of the most insincere apologies. Locker room talk. Ive been in a lot of locker rooms and i never heard anything like that. But moving on, neil, the sad thing is that Hillary Clinton is unfit. She has made that plain year after year, but we have a candidate who can not beat her. If he got out of the way, mike pence i think would beat her by double digits, even starting this late, even with early balloting having begun. If we stick with trump, we have a really serious chance of losing the house, losing the senate, not just electing hillary but giving her control of congress so she can ram through her Supreme Court nominees. Neil there is no procedure for that, governor. Yes there is. Neil i talked to lawyers around constitutionalists that said there isnt. Say especially if donald trump didnt step down. Well i think what he did last night is maybe stopped the titanic from sinking immediately but he is still going to sink i fear he will take too many republicans with him. So im going to wrote, write in mike pence. I will try to convince every other voter to make sure we vote for every republican candidate for the house and senate. And you know, just pray for the best. But we have to reflect on this our party cant be a party neil your party did, governor. No i dont think so, i know how you personally feel about it. They nominated him. They nominated him. All of sudden tape comes out 11 years old, not saying for or against, hey, it is what it is. You cant dig up another candidate. We have mike pence. But you have to learn. We have to learn neil 400,000 people have voted governor. 400,000 people have voted. Millions of ballots have already been printed across the country. 400,000 people in a country with 330 million. I think if the republicans could get a doover we would do it in a flash. Cant get a doover but could step aside. Mike pence is there. At least we would hold the house and senate and pence i think had he had the time to start earlier, would have won easily, i still think he would hillary i think a majority of the American People know that both donald trump and Hillary Clinton are unfit to be president of the United States. We need another choice. Neil all right. But what happens if he does win . If donald trump wins, besides you never ever getting a single white house invite, the whole Republican Party will be more at war with itself if he wins than if he loses . I dont wish either of these two candidates on the American People but what i do hope is that we continue to hold the house and senate. You know, just trump now tweeting antipaul ryan stuff is such nonsense and so juvenile. He cant help himself. Well, the American People can help themselves, writein mike pence or try to convince trump for the interest of himself and this country, get out of the way. Let a republican win and let this country move forward. I was watching where governor pence was saying this should be about security and prosperity. He is absolutely right. It should be about security and prosperity and on both those issues overwhelming majority of americans would vote republican and reject hillary but that is not what it is about. It is about donald trump and neil did you watch the debate last night . Did you watch the debate last night . I did watch it, neil . Neil how did he do . I think he was awful and she was worse. You know, which just reflects on the two candidates. It has been a race to the bottom. They both gotten there. And now its a question who candying a deeper hole in the bottom. And if i had to bet it would be donald trump sadly, not because of the Republican Party. He was never a republican until recently. He is not a conservative. His philosophy is all about himself and making money. That is not what my party stands for. Neil all right. I understand where youre coming from. Youre a decent man, governor, you guys are developing a circular firing squad the likes of which i dont think ive seen in a long, long time. It is about survival, neil. The Republican Party needs to reject this bringing gotted candidate. Neil governor, how do you survive a circular firing squad . By electing majority again in the house. Electing a majority in the senate again. And hopefully, enough people leaning on trump that he steps aside and mike pence can win it. By the way if he doesnt, i will write in mike pence. No. The problem is that our tax code is a disaster that has been known for years, both on the business side and the individual side. Our tax code is so filled with deductions, exemptions, exclusions, credits, there is all sorts of things that you can do. We know that the rich and businesses with the big accountants are able to take advantage of those different tax opportunities. We see things like corporations going overseas, not because it is illegal because that is what the silly tax system that we have in this country incentivizes people to do. So instead of fighting about kind of what people are doing with the tax code, which i think every tax accountant and every tax lawyer would probably interpret differently, we need to talk about tax reform, and that should be one of the major pillars of this campaign. How will we reform the tax code . I would say in a way that would get rid of some of those tax breaks, bring down tax rates, and, raise more revenue to help with the physical challenges but were not having those big policy discussions as anybody who watched the debate last night is well aware. Neil no, obviously, if you have the means, you can find the depreciation allowance that will benefit you but i think what donald trump is trying to say last night, i know this tax code. I know it very, very well. But does that mean that he can make the point, if it turns out he hasnt paid taxes . Perfectly legally but he hasnt paid taxes for many years . What do you think . Yeah. So i think the point that we need to focus on how do we fix the tax code so the way you make money in this country isnt by taking advantage of all the tax breaks because that is not actually producing goods, producing services that will help grow our economy. Simplifying the tax code dramatically by getting rid of tax breaks, so it is not a game people can be playing would be step number one. I also think donald trump made a point last night were one of the highest taxed countries in the world. May feel like it, but it is not actually true, compare us to the one of the taxed countries around the world. Were one of the lowest taxed countries. That doesnt mean we should be more like europe or other places but the point our overall tax take is smaller, what is high is the business tax rate. It is second highest in the world. Business taxes reform i would put way up there as important priority, because in order to compete globally, we have to have a business tax code that makes nse. I think one of the areas democrats and republicans could find some common ground. Neil no, no, you just read my mind. I think theyre a lot more aligned on this subject than you get from a president ial debate but well watch how they sort it out because were in the middle of drama season. Well see what happens. Just like inability for people to figure out how to use the date that that twitter has in a profitable way. Thus twitter is not a profitable company. Buyers are looking at this and walking away. A couple weeks ago cnbc put out a report that, okay, now there was people finally stepping up to the plate, going to buy it. The stock went up Something Like 20 . It was close to 25 a share. I doubt the veracity of that report. I dont know who put it out. Im just telling you that people sniff around on deals all the time and they have been sniffing on this for a year. They made it sound over at cnbc this thing was about to be sold. It clearly isnt. Does that mean it wont be sold . I think it will be sold at some point but it will not be sold at these levels apparently because it is hard to make money off it if you buy it for Something Like 15 to 20 billion, which is where the market cap has been trading lately. That is where we are right now. Neil who would be interested buyers if there are any albeit at much lower rates . All the up withs that walked away. Theyre interested at some level. Salesforce. Com which is a b to c Cloud Computing company. Google, facebook, apple, they would all like it at some point. Maybe Even News Corporation like us at some price would see the value here because twitter is a bigtime news feed. Disney is another one interested. Alphabet is the Holding Company for google. Neil right. Theyre all kind of interested to say, i think the problem with covering this company to say someone is interested to jack the stock price up you have to be really careful.
