They also look for exemptions from the ban on insurers charging sick individuals more. I would argue that the most contentious demand from sadness to do away with a guaranteed issue portion of the Affordable Care act. That is a preexisting conditions coverage. The more conservative of Health Care Bill got, if you really dig into her dress the guaranteed issue, i would argue th u didnt alienate people who are middle of the road. I think what we would like to see us both republicans, democrats can everyone agrees we have to do something to address those most vulnerable, those of preexisting conditions, those in poverty to ensure that they get Quality Health care. We want to see solutions that are specifically designed to help those populations. The current solution doesnt do that. Obamacare gave individuals with preexisting conditions and insurance card but didnt necessarily give them health care. The costs are so prohibitive that individuals have an insurance card and its nothing more than a piece of plastic. You can afford to actually pay the cost. We need to address that. She went in a public way and misled the nation in a benghazi tragedy but she also very publicly came out and said that he served with honored and put up on court marshal, maybe she has different sets of whats honorable or whats not. Well, she knowing what she needs to say, i think shes aware of the potential here more a mind mine field shes aware of the authority and need today put that into context, shes correct in the very fine point. The problem here is that there appears to be the potential that they essentially weponized their authority or at least she did and im sure likely others, using that access and authority that they were granted for intelligence purposes and so that thats where the problem lies, and also theres an issue of, look, right now the democrats are spinning this and saying, theres no there there, right, at the same time they want us to think that theres something there with this collusion angle with the russians even though pelosi and schiff and others said theres no evidence n. The old days, a journalist we wanted to investigate any story, right, they want to investigate and shine a light on it and see where the chips fell. Now you have a situation where they want to pick and choose what they deemed to be worthy of investigation. Isnt the big issue here that they are trying to enable, what susan rice was trying to do this is unmask this and enable bureaucrats that want to presenting their position as well as hurt the Economic Administration to leak the information, it wasnt the modus operandi and let them move forward in political agenda . Yes, its certainly its got the smell of a problem and i suspect that the way it began was legitimate enough, meaning, of course, we are monitoring foreign embassadors, thats what youre supposed to do for National Security. The russians and chinese monitor personnel for security purposes. Doing that theres been incidental collection and thats perfectly legitimate. It became okay during the course of the campaign, look at this, we have, we have some individuals that we sure like to know what theyre talking about and has nothing to do with russia and then it sort of took on a life of its own not on an official way but in washington thats how a lot of things develop, drip, drip, drip and all of a sudden the people reading intelligence and its too good to put down. I would consider the meeting tremendously upbeat as a Business Leader i look at what the president is doing and think abt very pragmatic. We talk about that gary cohn brought up the chart that showed the president which the president had seen around the process map to get to rodeville and it reminds me so much of things weve done our whole career, is looking at how to make things better, improve process and i really think its a pragmatic approach. Maria we are all energized about seeing tax reform for the first time since, what, 1986, first change to tax code and yet we havent really seen evidence that theyre working on it, are they . Whats your take on whether or not we are going to see tax reform this year . Well, my take from yesterday was there was a serious of meetings, you had secretary ross, you had gary cohn, you had the first daughter ivanka who talked about Workforce Development and i think what you find going on now and think about it in a way someone who run a company is an integrated plan. So i think youre not going to see silohbased decisions. Youre going to see integrated decisions and theyre having a deep dialogue to ensure that making one decision doesnt cause colateral damage to another. Maria you as a Business Leader, obviously taxes has been one to have issues why Companies Put money overseas, why theres all of the different loopholes, tell me what you think about the idea that tax reform is coming . I think always the devil is in the details, i like to say and everybody likes to say that. You can see this administration is designing jobs, the opportunity for the economy to grow. Maria right. And the ability for business to be friendlier to consumers too. Maria rollback of regulation has to be huge. I think it is, like any organization, things build overtime and i see a pragmatic view looking at it, going all the way down to bedrock and making change. Maria the president also talked about infrastructure spending. Can you have a role in that, tell me about the infrastructure plan that youre expecting, the administration has committed to directing as much as a trillion dollars on various Infrastructure Projects over the next decade. How does ceos at the meetings respond to that . Well, i think that first of all, im enthused about the definition of infrastructure because historically we looked at infrastructure as roads and bridges and tunnels and its a much more expansive in today view of it which includes technology, cyber, has you thinking about the whole of it and the it within government, and so for that, Many Companies stand ready to be prepared to participate in help automate and help change the infrastructure. Maria right, which is why i asked you. 2,000 times a second for more than 6 million merchant locations and i know that you recently created a new program for small and midcap businesses designed for small and businesses to track inventory, et cetera. Per i think theres a whole series of things we think about, first and foremost, Small Business sentiment is at an alltime high and i think that banks are motivated to help Small Businesses grow as we are and i find that to be a very friendly environment. When you think about payments in general and you think about all of the things that go on within government infrastructure, im hopeful that we have opportunities to help lower the cost of government and bring more electronic opportunity to consumers and to the government entities. Maria we have the jobs numbers later this week. What are you hearing . This is your Main Customer group out there, small and midcap businesses, what are they expecting . Whats most important that they want to see out of the Trump Administration . Well, theyre expecting forms of tax reform. We are talking about tax reform and people are thinking about corporations but the ability for spending to increase more robust economy definitely drives them. We see we see them investing in technology themselves and working hard on building their business and theyre more optimistic about their ability to do commerce with consumers in a different way, so theyre investigating today in businesses. Maria does it feel to you that things are Getting Better economically spending . I think it does, we are in the very early innings, but when you look at all of the movement thats occurring, you see a very, very pragmatic approach to helping build. Maria yeah. In terms of business, youre seeing it as well. We are looking at the impact of these legislations whether its tax reform or roll back in reg. Do you think we will see that in 17 or 18 . Every day we get the headlines, great for, you know, the show because theres always divisiveness going on out there but people need to come together and focus on moving forward and if you want to put people back to work and create prosperity you have to take some of the rules out of play here. Banking industry has been held back by so many regulations and i think its time to undo some of those things. Maria is that why you have seen so much consolidation in the business . You cant get growth whorg anically you acquire growth organically you acquire . Thats correct. To have economies of scale to be able to pay for all the rules. All the small banks have been impacted by all the rules trying to govern the big banks. I think theres going to be a lessoning of those rules. On top of that, not only that, the people implementing the rules are going to be different. Theyre no longer going to walk into a bank and say, youre guilty and im going to find it. Kevin a lot of banks want today avoid growth due to the fact that once they hit a threshold they have more compliance and if you look at the compliance department, theyre the ones that have grown and so all those resources were put there instead of lending and fostering growth for the u. S. Economy. How do you think the doddfrank going to play out with this new administration, theres talking about pulling it back, 22,000 pages of rules and regulations maria incredible. How do you think its going the play out in this new administration . I have 40,000 pages. How many people are employed to put that document together . At 10 billion in size maria basically theyre telling you to to evaluate the banks based on the capital that they are holding. Yeah, theres so much that goes into it but its basically a stress test on theback and its ability to survive. A 10 billiondollar in size a bank now has to receive less from payments when people swipe their debit cards. Really . That was a transfer from the banks to the retailers. What did that do to help make the system better . I mean, thats maria theres a law in place that the durban amendment. Takes money away of the bank and gives to the retailers. The consumer didnt benefit. Kevin played its way into the processing and thats the problem with doddfrank. It was a big bill and gave all the Government Agencies to issue all of these rules and thats why we have over 22,000 pages and they havent enacted everything and tampered the growth and going back to it too, policies have had a huge impact and one of the things that jamie diamon hit on is they are spending time fostering overseas development and so he thinks the u. S. Needs to come down on tax policy which was a big thing sure. Thats 3 trillion offshore, right, i dont care what you tax it at but we can get some to have revenue back, we can put rules in place to hire people. Companies are going to pay dividends and buybacks, thats not terrible, lets create jobs from that, lets tax it at 5 . Maria thats exactly what hes trying to do. Dagen thats part of the plan and they need to act on it. Again, thats the roadway to infrastructure spending. Thats how you come up with the money to spend on fixing our roads and bridges in this nation. It could be about a quarter of a trillion dollars at a minimum, right . Sure. Whats interesting about his letter too, he talks about education a lot. He talks about failing schools, he talks about inner city schools, high school and vocational schools and if youre really looking longterm on health and economy, have to start there. What is your optimism in so far as the administration here because with School Choice and secretary devos, theres a totally different philosophy on education here, is that a sector that they are looking for hope . If you look at whats threatening the country is our education system. We are not turning out people out of our high schools, getting them ready to go to college and, you know, theyre not set to thrive in life. I mean, theyre not hireable. We need to get those people maria they dont have the skill sets. Can we talk about earnings . This is what you do. Yeah. Maria your fund is doing so well. 1. 1billion in assets, jpmorgan reports earnings next week. What are you expecting from earnings next week . Its going to show up in margin. Long growth is one of those things that we havent seen materialize enough. And by the way, the rates being low, issue bonds. Theyre not as big as perhaps they would like them to be. Long growth hasnt been as play as they spectacular as they want it to be. Well, its not quite there but margin will look quite good. You know, i think the cata markets will be mixed and in terms of comparison in the last year, but the thing thats really interesting that youre out there f if i go to a conference, people feel really good. Dagen people have recovered from the fear of owning bank stocks because, you know, in 2008 a lot of mom and dads got wiped out and they owned nice dividend yield bank stocks from 50 years ago. Like a bank had been bought, bought, bought. The fact that youre assets h where they are shows a real confidence and desire to hold the names and that goes a long way. Well, you know, whats interesting is theres 40 billion and 12 billion has been added since the election. Maria wow. People have taken a position not in individual banks but in funds like mine and etftripe of structure. Maria just to get the exposure. The other interesting thing from a buyback perspective, when we see the ccar results maria when are we going get that . June. The number could approach 10 billion.
