When was last time a major party member frontrunner was publicly bashed by a former standardbearer . This is happening hours before tonights big fox news debate. Were all over story, what it means for trumps candidacy and what it means for future of the white house. Not just the Republican Party in chaos now. Hillary clintons email scandal is growing worse for the frontrunner. Her aide that set up the private server, brian pagliano, has been granted immunity. Reports are Hillary Clinton is interviewed by fbi next couple weeks. Could be she might be headed for criminal indictment. Looking more and more likely. First want to go back to the showdown between donald trump and mitt romney as we wait for donald trump to take to the stage there in portland, maine. We have breaking analysis from ford oconnell, republican strategist. And capri cafaro. Ford, he was supposed to speak at 1 30. Here it is 31 minutes later. Were still great waiting. Everyone knows were waiting. All the cable stations broadcasting trump sign live from portland, maine. Is this another smart strategy getting his name out there, drumming up interest, keeping everybody waiting on edge of their seats waiting to see what he says about mitt romney. Start with romney. This is weak sister attempt by mitt romney. Too little too late, doesnt change trajectory in the race. His supporters will relish in this. Let me say something. This is the biggest mistake Republican Party made or at least candidates want to be nominees other than trump. They failed to define trump before trump could define himself. They ignored him he is run away freight train. Neil trish i agree with you. Well get to that in a second. Humor me here. Were waiting for him. Effect tiffly really been able to use the media to his advantage in a way i think is pretty much unprecedented. Think about all the media experts out there, advising all these candidates. They cant figure it out in the way that he singlehandedly has managed to do. [inaudible] trish absolutely. The is media professional. Quick to remind everyone he is the author of the art of the deal. If anything the man understands is how to communicate with the public. Youre right, that is why it is so great for ratings and why donald trump is bringing so many new people into the electorate. Trish he really is. He understands how to connect with people. That is something certainly mitt romney obviously didnt do very well since he lost to barack obama in 2012 and lost to john mccain in 2008. Trish i want to get to that. Mitt romney, this is back to earlier point, ford, again, looking at the governor of maine coming forward to welcome donald trump. You think about mitt romney and how he had such a huge opportunity and clearly failed. He never connected with people in the way that were seeing donald trump do that now. Now could be relate to. Making more money than mitt romney. Seems like average joe. People are saying they get what he is saying. That is why he will get democrats in places like ohio to vote for him. Trish that is interesting. Coming from a democrat, everyone. Capri cafaro. You think he will bring in democrats dont like hillary and establishment . I dont dont think is it just about establishment but Donald Trumps demographic. Look at lesser educated, white, in particularly like the industrial midwest. Trish got all the bluecollar democrats. Immigration, these issues are resonating with former reagan democrats. I think he has opportunity. If i can say one really quick thing about mitt romney. News flash, here is another rich guy who didnt want to release his tax returns and he lost. I dont see credibility he brings to the table. I agree with trish mitt romney doesnt have a lot of credibility right now but the way, he got up there was almost though as he was speaking for the entire party, trying to be socalled conscience of the party. From that part of the party if donald trump becomes nominee. If donald trump becomes the nominee they will have to unify behind him. I agree with Rupert Murdoch who said it would be insane not to unify behind donald trump if he is indeed the nominee. If you dont, guess what . Hillary clinton will walk in the front door of the white house that is the worst thing that can happen for Republican Party. Warring factions want their guy to win. Donald trump is ahead. If he secures 1237. He is doing it legitimately. He is doing it legitimately. Exactly. He is winning on his own you know. The attacks that mitt delivered today, marco rubio did before super tuesday and didnt do anything to change the outcome. Trish capri, as democrat yourself you want clearly your nominee which is looking more likely Hillary Clinton to win the oval office. Who would you campaign against. Who is easier to campaign against. Ted cruz. Ted cruz is most unlikeable person in the field. If ted cruz is nominee, he is so unlikeable, so unapproachable, i think it would be very easy to run against ted cruz and be successful. I dont think he will have crossover appeal with democrats like donald trump would. A lot of democrats say great, bring on donald trump he is misogynous, he is this and that. I disagree with that i think donald trump out of this field along with john kasich who i think obviously not looking for him to become nominee either of those individuals, kasich and trump would be most difficult. Cruz to lesser extent would be easier. Capri, to your point trish i want to share with you something mitt romney said. Im going to paraphrase here. Started quoting john adams. Democracies are always at risk of effectively committing suicide. Suggesting that we would be as country committing suicide as democracy if we elect donald trump. I think in some way the electorate feels like our democracy committed suicide via crony capitalism and benefits erelate and not helping middle class enough. And to me, i think voters are presented ahead of romney . Capri, capri. Voters are step ahead of romney. Here is what is very tough for establishment side and social con irv tiffs of the. Party is changing before their eyes quite some time. Ignored it in terms of their own interest. That is what donald trump is beneficial. His media i. Q. Is out of einstein. Leveraging animosity to the Republican Party to his advantage and leveraged it to the white house. Trish howie kurtz, host of mediabuzz joining conversation with capri and ford. We wait for donald trump to come to the podium. Governor of maine addressing crowd, one of Donald Trumps early supporters. You heard reports, the guy has media i. Q. Of einstein. He is playing effectively right into the sweet spot of the American Voter in that he has got, mitt romney coming out, establishment guy saying horrible things. In many ways plus bolster support. We are bringing up banner headlines awaiting donald trump remarks, in response to mitt romney. We pretty much know what he is going to say. Begged for my endorsement four years ago. Heres the thing. A lot of people think we in the media created donald trump. The fact he brilliantly manipulates each news cycle, even negative coverage of donald trump works to his advantage. We have mitt romney, icon, face of the establishment Republican Party, effectively coming in late in the game with a speech with words like phony and fraud and misogynist trying to deny the nomination to the guy who won 10 out of 15 states, tells you why the race is trish here we are. Well listen in to donald trump responding to mitt romneys attacks on him earlier today, live from portland, maine. Have fun. [cheering] thank you, thank you so much. What a turnout. What a turnout. [cheering] wow. Thank you. I want to thank paul. Ill tell you, i love tough people. You need tough people and he is a tough cookie. [cheering] when we got his endorsement we were thrilled, i will tell you that. He is a great guy. You know, i was doing a little bit of a thing called the debate [shouting] get him out, please. [cheering] get him out. What are they doing, right . What is the purpose. What is it . Get as Little Television time i guess. You know, i was going to the debate, i was going directly in from florida. Im down in florida. Were campaigning. Were doing really well in florida. Campaigning against a guy that has the worst voting record in the history of the state of florida named rubio. Hes, i call him lightweight. He is lightweight. But, got the worst record in the history florida. I dont know i should do well there. Lets hope i do well there. I love florida. I was going to detroit and i said to my people, i have to stop in maine. I felt, i just had to stop in maine. [cheering] so i wouldnt say it is very direct route, would you say . Instead of going this way, i went this way and that way and thats good. Im so glad. To put this in incredible soldout crowd, you have thousands of people outside, to put this crowd together in period of what, 24 hours . [cheering] and maine is amazing. Maine is one of the most beautiful places on earth. People dont realize how large your land mass is. I was talking to paul. As large as all of new england, when you think of it. Some piece of land. Can i buy some . Can i buy some . [cheering] so you know ive been watching with great interest as we get to you know down the line, weve had some amazing results. Right nearby with New Hampshire, it was amazing, incredible thing. Every single time i went to New Hampshire whenever i met with people, say number one problem, number one problem, heroin. Number one problem. And i would say how is that possible . You look at these beautiful fields and beautiful little roads and everything is so beautiful. And it was number one problem. And it comes from our southern border and were going to close up that border and were going to build a wall and were going to stop the drugs from coming in, believe me. [cheering] were going to stop. People will come into our country but going to come in legally. They will come in legally. But were going to solve the problem. But you know i watch these pundits, when i first started my wife melania and i came down the escalator, right, and i first started and it was and i amazing thing. We have to do something because we have people who dont know what theyre doing. They dont know what theyre doing in running our country. I got some of that today. Just hearing some of these things, but they dont know what theyre doing. We have to do it. It takes guts to run for president. Im not a politician. Im not a politician. No tack all action, nothing gets done. Some things. I watched pundits, they said, trump, i dont know, we have some great talent running. Im trying to figure out where, where . Whats the talent . Whats the talent. You come down and you do it and you Start Talking about trade and you see what happens with trade. Trade has been such a disaster. But the pundits all said, i came out at 3 , first one. My wife said you know if you run youre going to win but you actually have to run. You cant say you will run, they wont poll it, even if you do poll it people will say you will not run. If you run you will win. She is my pollster. I pay her less money. She is better than the pollsters. You know what happened, i started at three, the first day, i was at three, which i wasnt exactly thrilled about. Then it went up to six, went up to 12, went up to 18. It kept going up. Every time i went up the pundits would say he has plateaued. He plateaued. He will always get six. That is six solid group. Then i went up to 12. You know that is a solid group. Then i went up to 24, they said, dont forget that is with 17 people. We had 17 people. 24 with 17 people is pretty good. We went up to 24, they said well, that is the max. Canned be anymore. We went up to 28, 32. Cnn came out with a poll, trump 49. Nationally. Thats high. [cheering] and, you know im very proud of it because this is not a plateau. This is movement. We have a movement going on, folks. Time magazine did a story, recently, couple of weeks ago, talking about whats going on and they have never seen anything like it. People have never seen it they say, i dont think im exaggerating this at all, i dont want to exaggerate, many of the great writers of which there are very few because the media is among the most dishonest people i ever dealt with but they said, they said that in the history of this country there has never been anything like this, whats happening. We were in huntsville, alabama, the other day. We had 35,000 people, 35,000 people. We went to arkansas, which you saw we won. Is that another one. Aye yi yi. Get him out. Get him out. [shouting] they just dont stop. All right. Get him out. Thank you. Byebye. Byebye. Terrible. Incredible. Now you know you can be nice, but if youre nice, they would say youre so soft. Then you can be vicious, get out of here. Then they say you were too harsh. I have developed, please get him out. [cheering] its incredible. I love you too. I love you too. I love you too. [cheering] and by the way, you know, im selffunding my campaign. Putting up all my money. But you have to do, all i want. I dont want your money. I just want one thing, your vote on saturday. Get out and vote. [cheering] dont forget i did that big long turn, slightly long, it is a big turn. So you can get out to vote, okay . Thats least you can do. [cheering] thank you. Thank you, very much. So, our country and our time is make America Great again. And over the last little while i met so many people. Thousands and thousands of people. Like this, were confined by size of the room. It is packed but the size of room. Thousands and thousands of great americans. I have more confidence in this country now than i ever have had before. I have seen, millions of people, really, because when you get 35, 40,000 people for rallies, and we have by far the biggest rallies, i will say that. Bernie is second, he is second but he is distant second but he second. I have to give him credit for that. But we have, by far, biggest, i say by far the most people. This country has unbelievable people that love our country. Just remember that. [cheering] and i want to see the day, in nottoodistant future when apple makes their iphones in this country and not in china and all of these other places. [cheering] now, i heard, and i saw just a little bit of it, but i heard that mitt romney made a fairly long speech. [booing] and i mean honestly, i will address it quickly because it is irrelevant. Look, mitt is a failed candidate. He failed. He failed horribly. The third [cheering] he failed badly. That was a race, i have to say, folks that should have been won. That was a race that absolutely should have been won. And i dont know what happened to him. He disappeared. He disappeared. I wasnt happy about it, ill be honest i am not a fan barack obama and that was a race that i backed mitt romney. I backed him. You can see how loyal he is. He was begging for my endorsement. I could have said, mitt, drop to your knees, he would have dropped to his knees. He was begging. He was begging me, and did you see how great, he said im not big like him or great businessman, all that stuff. Since then, i have done much better and now he tries to demean. Well talk about that in a second. Mitt was thinking about running again. He ran a horrible campaign. It was a campaign that should have never been lost. Youre running against a failed president. Came up with the 41 . He demeaned 47 of the people in our country, right . Famous 41 . Once 47 . Once that was said, a lot of people thought it was over for him. Then the last month 1 2 he disappeared. And i called his people, i said you have to do yourself a favor. Obama, say what you want, he was on jay leno, on david letterman, all over the place, last three or four weeks. Mitt was looking for zoning for a nineqargha raj or something in california, right . What is he doing . Who cares about a garage. Youre running for president mitt was disaster as a candidate. So what happened, it was very strong, and if press goes back, they will see it, when i heard he was running again, and i wasnt sure he was going tock running, but i was very, very strong to mitt, publicly. I didnt want to talk to him. I was so disappoint in him because he let us down. He let us down. One thing you lose and work and work and go, he let us down. He should have won. Something happened to him. He went away. He was gone. He was horrible in the third debate. It was a horrible, something happened. I dont know what happened. Make some day he will write a book. His campaign guy was terrible campaign manager, stuart stevens, always on television knocking everybody. The guy ran one of the worst campaigns in the history of the modern politics. Mitt ran, probably worstrun most people have seen. Most people thought that the republican candidate would win. So when mitt started raising his head a few month ago, i was very strong. I said, mitt romney should not run. He is a choke artist. I said it very strongly. I wanted to keep him in. Then jeb bush actually convinced mitt not to run. Can you imagine, jeb, jeb sold him. Jeb, he is a good salesman. Now that he is out, i say jeb is good salesman right . He is highenergy salesman. Mitt was afraid of jeb, because he was afraid jeb would get the money and jeb would get the whatever. I was not afraid. I wasnt afraid of jeb, i can tell you that. What happened jeb bush convinced mitt not to run. Mitt was going to run. It was going to be third attempt. Second one being one of great catastrophes. First one just didnt happen that is okay but the second was a catastrophe. What happened is he went to see jeb he had him convince he had money he would run and mitt chickened out. The real reason he chickened out, it wasnt jeb, it was me. I said if you remember mitt was all set to run. I know this from people close to him. I think he probably still has desire maybe at convention to get some kind of a thing. Hillary clinton will destroy him in the election. Assuming she is allowed to run, assuming she is not arrested for the email situation [cheering] which is so terrible. Which is so terrible. I mean, so terrible. Lets assume that the democrats are going to protect her. Lets assume that i will be running against hillary. And i really want to, i would love to run against hillary. [cheering] by the way, we have numerous polls show me beating her esly. And i havent seen started on her yet other than four weeks ago i did. She called me sexist. And i hit her with the husband and that was last time i ever heard the word sexist. That was it. [cheering] they had a rough weekend. That was a rough weekend. Bill was not happy. I guarranty you dont ever say that to him again. Say it to somebody else. Not to trump. That was a rough, rough weekend they had. But mitt was going to run assure as youre standing here, sorry we didnt get you seats, too many people. He was going to run, and i was very, very angry that he was going to run. I didnt know i was going to be doing this but i felt i wanted to. Nbc came to me. Wanted to extend the apprentice for two seasons, 28 episodes. Steve burke, steve burke of comcast, great guy came up to my office with the people at nbc, please donald, we like you to run, not run, dot apprentice. Ratings after 14 seasons were still fantastic, they were still great. Steve, i think im going to run for president. No, no, youre not. No, i think im going to run for president. They didnt want me to because the show does great. And ultimately i decided to run. Youre not allowed by law with equal time laws youre not allowed to do both. We chose arnold schwarzenegger. How will arnold do by the way . Does anybody know . Who would be better arnold or trump. Arnold . Trump. Shouting] well find out if arnold is not quick. He is no not quick he will not look good. When you have amoroso coming at you you have to be quick and sharp. They renewed the show with me in the up fronts. I said i cant do it. I gave up a lot of deals. I gave up a lot of things to do this. It takes a lot of effort, those people trying to get in. Can you believe it. Everybody clearing out well let a new group in, is that okay . No when i heard mitt was going to run a little bit before this period of time i was very tough. I said, he cant run he cant run. He was going to run. He cant run. Then i started to say we have to keep hip him out. He is a choke artist. I started hitting him so hard. People said, why did you hit him so hard . We cant take another loss. We have cant take another loss. Mitt is choke artist and he choked like i never seen anyone choke other than rubio when Chris Christie was grilling him. That was one of the great chokes. No, rubio of florida, that was one of the great chokes i have ever seen. He was standing there, shaking sweating. I was getting ready, standing here like this, is right over here, i was getting ready to grab him because i thought he was going down, im telling you. Mitt did a big, big, choke. We had to keep him out. Couple things i heard he said, first of all he doesnt mention the fact that i built a city on west side of manhattan. I built buildings all on the side of manhattan. Talked about beef, Water Company which i still have. I supply all my clubs with the water. Numerous of those things i have, magazine, other things. [shouting] get him out of here. Get him out. Get him out. By the way speaking of mexico, i won hispanic vote by far in nevada, right . [cheering] we won, we won the hispanic vote in nevada in the polls during the, that we won nevada. We won south carolina. We won New Hampshire. Then we had the big, big tuesday where we won a tremendous number. And i have to tell you this, so, ultimately, mitt chickened out. Now he is saying, sees hillary is very weak. Now he is saying i wish i tried it. Ultimately he did didnt because he would have gotten beaten very badly. Tell you what. A couple of things were mentioned we have to discuss. First of all when he talked about me, i wrote just a couple of them down, when he talks about me, they dont want to talk about 92 story buildings all over the place. Dont want to talk about the 1290 avenue of the americas. They dont want to talk about the Westside Railway yards, a tremendous city on the west side of manhattan. They dont want to talk about 40 wall street and all the buildings. They want to talk about water, which i still have. I supply all my clubs. I have a Water Company. They want to talk about a magazine, and i have a magazine. It goes to all of my clubs. Little, tiny thing, wherever you can find by the way, a school, trump university, trump initiative. But i will tell you just so you understand on the school, the school had 98 approval rating. But yet an attorney that felt, oh, maybe i can sue trump and get something, the school had a 98 in other words, 98 of people that took courses, we signed report cards. Thats why you cant settle a case like that. You put somebody up on the stand, did you write this . The most beautiful thing. They did a commercial, they took it down, where two people were saying negative, and then we showed them the statement that they wrote, they had to take the commercial down because 98 of the people that took the courses said really wonderful things about it. The other thing, its got an a, an a from the Better Business bureau. So i say how do i settle a case like this . [inaudible] a b would be okay, but we did better than that. So i cant and heres one thing i say about business. I watch these bankers, and they get millions of dollars a year, 40, 50 million. Frankly, its ridiculous. And then theyll settle with the government if theyre sued by the government for 2 billion, 5 billion, 12 billion. And i say, why dont you fight it . Well, its the government, we dont want to fight. Youve got to fight it, because if you dont fight it, everyones going to sue you. Ever see it . The next week, they get sued again. Youve got to fight these things out. You have to do whats right. To with the university, i knew i could get some bad pub lusty, but i have publicity, but i have to do whats right. Do we agree with that, by the way . Its a very small case, its a civil case, its not a big deal. And itll cost me to win it in court than i could settle for, in my opinion, but im going to lose it in court. Its lousy timing because i happen to be to running for president , but i have other suits too. Any businessman or businesswoman has lawsuits. People sue for a million different reasons. So just so you understand, 98 approval rating, an a from the Better Business bureau. Were going to win the case. Mark it down, were going to win the case. Itll be forever because it takes forever, but thats the way it is. I dont like to settle cases, i dont like to do it. Once you settle cases, what happens is everybody says hes a settler, lets sue. Thats not me. A lot of people dont sue me because they say its too hard. [laughter] [cheers and applause] so one of the things, one of the things that mitt brought up which i think is so serious, he said about trade. We have to keep trade. Nobody knows more about trade than me. I mean, i make so much more money than mitt. I have a store thats worth more money than mitt. Its a store. And, actually, it was funny, because i made that statement jokingly when i was in iowa. And the Des Moines Register a paper thats, actually, a terrible paper if you want to know the truth [laughter] but they called up, oh, thats a terrible statement for you to make that statement. And the people put me on, i said, what are you saying . You have a store thats worth more than mitt. So lets say mitts worth 150, 200. Yeah, the stores worth much more than him. Its on fifth avenue. Gucci, the gucci store. So i said, yeah, its worth much more. We dont believe a store is worth 150 million. I said, go ahead, go get a couple they went out and got three appraisers, and they said, you know what . That stores worth from 400 million to a billion two. And by the way, you can go check your local Des Moines Register if anybody if its still open. Im not sure its still open. [laughter] but anyway, but i built an amazing company. And, you know, one of the reasons you know its amazing, the hottest development, the hottest Development Site probably in the history of the General Services administration, the gsa thats the Government Service is the Old Post Office site. Thats where the post office built in washington d. C. An entire block fronting on pennsylvania avenue. In other words, if i dont get there through the white house, im getting there anyway, okay, folks . [cheers and applause] and fronting on pennsylvania avenue one of the most beautiful buildings in the country. Incredible. Its a landmark building. And the gsa for many, many, many years has owned it, and theyve wanted to develop it for 30, 35 years, and it just sort of never worked out. Big job. Never happened. And hen they went to bid then they went to bid, and in bidding it, they had more bidders and more highlevel bidders, i think, than they ever had before. Its assume its just about the hottest job theyve ever put out to bid. Every Hotel Company wanted it. I actually got it on building a 300room super, super luxury hotel. They bid it, and every Hotel Company, every office company, everybody wanted it. So they went out to a public bid s. And one of the things in choosing the bidder is how strong is the bidder, and how good is the bidders idea. They loved my idea because what were going to do, im serious, this will be one of the great hotels of world. Its two years ahead of schedule. We were supposed to open in september in two years. Were two years ahead of schedule, and by the way, the gsa people are terrific people. The were under a little bit budget. Were going to the highest end. And the reason i got chosen was, number one, my Financial Statement was to strong that it could guarantee completion because they didnt want to have a mess where they billed 25 , then it goes out of business and, number two, we had the best idea. So when i listen to this myth and by the way, this isnt the obama administration, in all fairness. I wouldnt say i had an advantage. In fact, i said to my daughter, i said, you know, maybe, maybe were not going to get it no matter how good we do. But my Financial Statement is so strong, and i, by the way, put it in romney talks about taxes, right . Why isnt he doing his taxes. You dont learn anything from, very little do you learn from taxes. Very little. You cant learn very much. But i did file almost 100 pages of Financial Statements with the federal elections. And it shows that i have a net worth that could be over 10 billion, probably over. And i dont want to do that in a bragging way. I tell you because thats the kind of thinking we need. We have 19 trillion, as paul was saying, 19 trillion in debt. Its the kind of thinking we need. I have very low debt. I have tremendous cash flow. Its an unbelievable company, and i filed my financials. So when he says, oh, maybe theres something in his tax return, theres nothing. But i get audited every single year. And because the company is so big, they audit, i understand, fortune 500 companies every year. Because my company is so big or some other reason, which is unfair, but because my companys so big, lets leave it at that, they audit me every year. I think its very unfair, but ive been audited every year for many years. Now, when the audits finished, ill release my tax returns. Nobody in this room would say youre being audited, and heres the tax return. You get audited, you finish up, routine stuff, and then you release the tax returns. But if anyone wants to, like mitt would like to go down and go to the federal election office, youll see almost 100 pages of financials that were filed ahead of schedule. I could have delayed it for six months. I filed them within 30 days. And believe me, the accountants worked overtime. I didnt want them saying, oh, hes asking for extensions. So thats really the thing. So with mitt i just wanted to tell you that he came out. It was very nasty. I mean, i thought he was a better person than that. I did help him. I raised money for his campaign. I actually had two fundraisers for him. In fact, the first fundraiser was so successfulling that we had the second one that same day. His wife, who is a lovely woman. By the way, a really lovely woman. She came up, we had a fundraiser in my apartment at trump tower, and it was so oversubscribed. I did a great job. They couldnt have cared less about him. In fact, a lot of them said, donald, hes a stiff, hes not going to win. I said, oh, hell be fine. Hes a stiff. I should have listened to the guy. [laughter] but we had a fundraiser, and it was so big, and it was raining out. I wont forget this one. It was a miserable, miserable day. And the people came in, hundreds of people phase one. And then we said theres too many people to put them in one, so we called for another one an hour later after it ended, one hour. And because everybodys shoes were so wet, i ruined my carpet. Thats why this carpet was wiped out. And nobody thanked me for the carpet. Hey, maybe i can send mitt a bill for carpet ruined, right . [cheers and applause] but i always, you know, when you help somebody, when you help somebody, he asked me to make robocalls. I made six for him. Every single place i made the call, he won. North carolina there were six different places. So you help somebody, and then he turns. Now, i will say this, i will say this, i will say this, he probably had a right to turn, because nobody could have been nastier than me in getting him not to run by saying hes a choke artist. And i will say the reason i did that, he was going to run. I love our country too much. If he would have run and even if he would have won, it would have been bad. He doesnt have what it takes to be president. That i can tell you. He doesnt have what it takes to be president. [applause] so i do want to mention one thing because it works so well, because his speech was long, and he covered so much territory, it was ridiculous. And youre right, he didnt mention any of the many, many, many buildings. Were building now over 120 jobs and in the works over 120 jobs all over the world. We just got turnberry in scotland, one of the great places of the world, dural, where theyre having the world Golf Championship today. And im in maine. Im in maine with you [cheers and applause] i dont know. Rory, and rory mcilroy, everybodys down there. And tigers going there later. Look, hes going to be better. Hes going to be fine. But theyre all there. Theyre all at my place x here i am making a speech in maine, okay . See . [cheers and applause] so if i dont win on saturday, ill say, boy, was that a mistake, right . Anyway, i think we will. But i will say this, look, trade. He talked about domestic get your head out of this thing byebye. Get him outment out. Get him out. I love you too. These people. [cheers and applause] ill tell you what, your police are fantastic. Do we love our police . Be. [cheers and applause] do we love our police in police . Where would we be without them . In all fairness. They are so abused. And, you know, one stupid incident or bad incident or if theres one bad person, which happens, out of the whole cup, and its the biggest story in the be news and a place forever. And people dont realize how great a job the police of this country do. I have to tell you. So [cheers and applause] so one of the things that mitt was talking about, it was domestic policy, and we need trade, and we need trade, and we have to deal with china, and we have to deal with all these people. Look, last year in the terms of a trade deficit we lost with china 500 billion. Okay . We lost with mexico thats why mexicos to going to pay for the wall, folks. Mexico, look, the wall, we need actually, its 2,000 miles. Were going to pay we need a thousand because we have a lot of natural barriers. The wall is going to cost 10 billion. Its going to be a trump wall, ill bring it in under budget. Should i name it after myself . I dont think so. Were going to have a real wall, and its going to be a great wall, and its going to work. And were going to stop drugs from pouring in, believe me, its going to work. Properly done, its going to happen. But just so you understand, they come up to me, and they say, but mexico will never pay. People that are on the dais with me. But donald first, they said theres no wall, right . How can you build a wall . China built a wall thats 13,000 miles long 2,000 years ago. We cant do one . Believe me, we can. So now they realize that. And the other day i hear this guy cruz saying, we cant build a wall. And then i hear him saying, were going to build a wall. And my wife came, darling, could you come back and listen to this . First time i heard him say that. I dont know if rubio said it. I think rubios got bigger problems than worrying about walls. Now all of a sudden theyre talking about walls. But heres the thing. We have with mexico a 58 billion trade deficit. If the wall costs 10 billion, thats a tiny fraction. If the wall costs 10 billion, i guarantee you, folks, that mexico is going to pay for the wall. Just as sure as youre standing there. Now, a politician wouldnt say that. And you saw this vicente fox, the previous president who, by the way, threw a horrible word out. He threw the fword out, okay . The fbomb. Can you imagine if i used that word . Man, that would be a big story. That would be all over the world. He threw it out, nobody cares. And then we had our Vice President apologize to him. Now, look, i love mexico. I love the mexican people. I have many, many, hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of mexican people, thousands over the years, thousands have worked for me. The hispanics are phenomenal people. I told you, i won the poll in nevada. These are phenomenal people. I won nevada, and i won with the hispanics, which is so good, right . So good. [cheers and applause] but look, heres the problem. Their leaders are too smart for our leaders. Were getting killed at the border, or were getting killed on trade. Nabisco is moving in from chicago. Theyre closing their big plant. Theyre moving in. You look at ford, fords building a massive, massive car complex there. That means theyre closing places in michigan, great places, michigan and other places, and theyre closing, and theyre going to mexico. We cant let that happen. The other day carrier announced air conditioners. I buy them. Im not buying them anymore. They announced 1400 men and women are being laid off, and somebody has a cell phone going, right . Big, big story. 1400. And this manager was, well, ladies and gentlemen, we are closing our plant, were moving to mexico, byebye. He was pretty tough for this was not a guy with social grace, believe me. So theyre going to move to mexico. So heres what we have to do, folks. Mitt romney said we have to keep free trade, right . Well, if we keep free trade the way we have it now, were not going to have any Companies Left at all. And you people know more about nafta than anybody, okay . Because you know how you were strip with the nafta, which was a disaster. But were going to do something much different. Were going to be smart people now, okay . I built a tremendous fortune, and believe me, i started off with very little. They like to say, oh, my father. If my father would have given me in fact, my sister and brother called me up. Don, what are they, kidding . These people are such liars. I borrowed a tiny amount of money, started something, and now its worth billions and billions and billions of dollars. And i will tell you something, with the carrier plant what you have to do is you have to be smart. So in this isnt free trade. We have to have smart trade. China charges tremendous tariffs and taxes when you want to sell. I have a friend whos a manufacturer. He makes great product. He puts it into china, they send it back. A third time they take it, but he has to pay a tremendous tax. He sees me, he goes, oh, donald, you have no idea how tough it is to negotiate with china. They dont want the product, and when they take it, they charge you a tax. Thats not the way its supposed thats not free trade. Now, china when they sell their product to us, no tax. Come on in, folks, take our jobs, everything else, no tax, no nothing. Not going to work that way. Mexico, the same thing. So ford builds this 2. 5 billion plant, theyre going to make cars, trucks and parts, right . And theyre going to send them into our country. Where is that good for us . When i watch a guy like romney, who truly is a lightweight, when you watch a no, no, think of it. Hes talking about trade. And i love free trade. I am a free trader. You know, a lot of the conservatives say donald trump does not like free trade. Isnt that terrible . I want smart trade. I want trade where at least theres an even balance, right . I dont want to be losing 500 billion a year. I dont want to be losing 58 billion a year. I want to make money, or i want to break even at worst, okay . [cheers and applause] so i tell people if you had a lightweight rubio as president , hes all controlled by the special interests, 100 . He gets all his money remember, im selffunding. Theyre not paying me anything. So he gets his money, if you have a guy like ted cruz getting a lot of money from a lot from oil and other places, okay in i mean, honestly, thats the way life works. So what happens is oil, 100 . Theyll get a lobbyist, 100 . Theyre not going to do anything. Me, its different. Heres what i do. Tell carrier, tell ford, whoever wants to listen, and its the only way you can do it, folks, the only way were going to stop this tremendous outflow of companies is the following. And by the way, pfizer. Great, great, massive drug company, pharmaceutical company, leaving, going to ireland. Wonderful. Thats wonderful. But youre not going to take advantage of us, okay . Youre not going to take advantage of us. So heres what happens. Lets use carrier as an example. I know its not president ial. In fact, my wife called just before, she said, darling, would you please react president ially . Be president ial. Like you were the other night when you had all those victories. You stood on the stage, and everybody liked it. I said, yeah, but i have incoming. You cant be too president ial. I said, i have incoming. [laughter] so heres what happens. A lot of truth to that. They said, act president ial tonight. I said, ill act president ial, but if somebody hits me, im going to hit em back harder, right . [cheers and applause] so what happens, you know, its one of those things. What happens is they will not do anything because the lobbyists will call and say you cannot do anything to carrier, to ford. And theyll say, oh, okay. They gave you a 2 million contribution or a 5 million contribution, you cant touch them. Theyve been very loyal to you. And theyll go, okay, all right. All those jobs gone. Heres what i do. I call up and id like to use one of my guys, you know carl icahn, great guy. I have a lot of endorsements from businessmen. Id announce them, but nobody cares. These are the most important people in a sense because we have the greatest business people, the greatest negotiators in the world. But this is so easy. I want to sort of do it myself, but its so unpresident ial for me to be calling up carrier. Im the president of the United States. I call up and i say, hi, donald trump, president of the United States [cheers and applause] i hope, i hope you enjoy your stay in mexico. I hope you build a beautiful, beautiful factory, beautiful plant. And i really want to wish you well. But let me just tell you something. You moved out, you hurt 1400 people. These people were devastated, by the way, i watched it. And theyve done a great job. You hurt 1400 people, and theres no free trade because its a total imbalance. I mean, their politicians are so much sharper and smarter and street wise than other ours. I say heres the story. Every airconditioning unit that you make and every single airconditioning unit that you make and comes across the border into the United States, were going to charge you a 35 tax, okay . [cheers and applause] 35 tax. And thats it. Now, heres what happens. As sure as youre standing here, theyre going to call their lobbyists, youve got to speak to the president. They cant, because i didnt take their money. Thats not going to work. Heres whats going to happen. As sure as youre here, theyre going to call me up within 24 hours, and theyre going to say, mr. President , do you have any second thoughts . Absolutely not. Sir, weve decided to stay in the United States. [cheers and applause] very simple. Now, we can be cute, or we can say were coming up with, you know, in washington theyre playing around with all sorts of formulas there is no formula. So when mitt made the statement, he will ruin free trade. Ruin free trade . If im losing 505 billion with china, if im losing 58 billion a year with mexico in terms of deficits, what do i want that kind of trade for anyway . Ruin it . Who needs that kind of trade . Seriously . Who needs that kind of trade . [applause] now, mitt admitted that im a much Better Businessman than him, and i am, im a much, much percent businessman than him Better Businessman than him. We will actually have better relationships with mexico, with china. Theyll respect us. They dont respect us now. They think were the dumbest people on earth led by the worlds dumbest people. Now look, look, let me just tell you something. China, in the south china sea, is building a massive military fort with runways and a tremendous complex. Theyre not supposed to be doing that. They didnt tell us. They have no respect for our country. With me ill cut im going to rip up those trade deals, into were going to make really good ones. And by the way, we have the cards. Remember, i wrote the art of the deal which, i think, is the number one selling business book of all time. But just remember, we have the cards. We have rebuilt china with the money theyve taken out of our country for many years, in all fairness. I call it the greatest single theft in the history of the world, what china has done to our history. They have trains that go 300 miles an hour. We have trains that go chug, chug, chug. And then they have to stop because the tracks split, right . They have trains that go 300 miles an hour. Japan, china, a lot of countries. Were like third world. You go to our airports, laguardia, you go to dubai, and you go to qatar, and you go to different places in asia, and you see airports like youve never seen. Then you come home, you land at kennedy, you land at lax, you land at laguardia. Oh, laguardia with. With the potholes all over the place, okay . [laughter] i mean, its just a very sad thing, whats happened. Whats happened to our country is very, very, very sad. So were going to make it a lot better, and were going to make it different, and were going to get rid of those horrible trade deals. Let me tell you, at some point its going to burst. At some point we cant continue to lose 500 billion with individual countries. We cant continue. You add it up. Whether its india, whether its vietnam, whether its anybody, every single country in the world that deals with us takes advantage of the stew tippedty stupidity of the United States, and a lot of it is they have the right lob biists lobbyists, they have the right people on pennsylvania avenue. And theyre negotiating with hacks, political hacks. Not to our best people, almost our worst people. So were going to make our country so strong. Were going to make it strong militarily, very, very strong. You know, our militarys very depleted. [cheers and applause] our military is depleted, very badly depleted. Everything, sort of the whole country is depleted. And were going to make our military strong, were going to take care of our vets. Our vets are treated horribly. [cheers and applause] were going to get rid of obamacare, and were going to repeal it and replace it. [cheers and applause] were going to bring education local. Were getting rid of common core which is a disaster. [cheers and applause] you know with, in the world, in the world educationally of the 30 countries that they look at, were number 30 in education. Meaning, were the worst. And yet perstudent costs, number one by far. Number two doesnt even exist, its so far back. So were number one in cost, number one, and were number 30 in terms of success. So were ranked the worst and yet we spend the most, okay . And part of that is common core. Its terrible. Part of its a lot of other things. Part of its theft and incompetence and waste and fraud and abuse and everything else. But were going to straighten it out. You know, its very interesting. When i won New Hampshire, they came out with a report. Donald trump spent 2. 5 million, and i wont mention names, but other people spent 45 million, okay . [laughter] i dont think he likes me. Do you agree . [laughter] but think of it. Wouldnt it be nice . So i have the lowest expenditure by far, and i have the biggest result by far. Way, way, way number one. Wouldnt it be nice if we could do that for our country instead of the other way around . [cheers and applause] were going to do that, thats what were going to do. [applause] so we are, very simply, were going to make America Great again, were going to win, win, win. Were going to win so much, youre going to get so tired of winning, youre going to say, please, please, let us have a couple of losses. I will say, no way. Were going to make America Great again, and youll say, okay. [cheers and applause] thank you very much, i love you. Please go and vote on saturday, i love you. Thank you. Thank you very much, everybody. Thank you. Thank you. [cheers and applause] thank you, everybody. Trish all right. That was donald trump speaking to the crowd there of supporters in portland, maine, mostly supporters. There were a few that he had toes out. Toss out. Responding to what we saw earlier from mitt romney today, his attack on donald trump. Donald trump came out swinging. He shared a cute anecdote about his wife begging him to be more president ial such as he was on tuesday night in florida when he had all the wins, and he said, look, theyre coming out. Ive got incoming at me. Incoming was his word. So he effectively came out swinging with one rather inappropriate ill just leave it there comment made earlier when he was referring to how much romney needed his support. We are joined by ford to connell, democratic ohio senate. Is it what you expected, ford . It was very different than what we saw tuesday which was, to use his words and melanias, apparently, more president ial. What we saw this afternoon was more rambling. He seemed to be very fired up and very angry with mitt romney. Well, hes a great showman. And facts dont really stick to trump because at the end of day, hes selling a feeling. Ive got to say, hes got the response going with his audience like a holy roller on sunday morning. I just dont see how anyone else is going to be able to stop this over the next three weeks. Trish ive got to tell you, i thought he makes perhaps the most sense when he starts talking about trade and when he used the term smart trade as opposed to free trade, capris, you were talking earlier about his ability to have crossover appeal. Right. Trish i think thats going to resonate. What do you say . What you just saw is exactly the kind of stuff thats going to resonate with democrats in the midwest, for example. As i mentioned earlier, he said he talked about nafta specifically. He talked about trade. These are the issues that people care about. And whats more i think that if youre the person sitting at home and youre listening to this and thinking to yourself with, okay, mitt romney, heres a guy that donald trump helped, and now hes stabbing the guy in the back. Thats not cool. I wouldnt want somebody that i helped to stab me in the back. So i think what people are seeing in donald trump is, i think, someone that is incredibly relatable even though he is a multibillionaire. So i think when you have that down home feel in conjunction with talking about nafta, talking about the 47 which i thought was very interesting that mitt romney evoked, you know, undercover, if you will, in 2012 and talking about how there is a revolution. He is selling a feeling, and i think that feeling is also being bought by the democrats. Trish, let me say, i do agree that trump is selling a feeling, but i will say we always focus on his tone and his rhetoric, not his actual issues. And i agree with capri on this. In the industrial midwest, particularly in ohio, hes going to get some union, blue collar people to cross over. And theres a couple of issues like that that hes been taking a general election stands on from the beginning, and i think thats causing a lot of consternation within the Republican Party elites both whether its a social conservative, whether its a trade issue or a neocon Foreign Policy issue. I dont want buy his nonsense, though, that he hasnt been thinking about this for three years because what hes putting down took a lot of time. Trish well, you know, back to this free trade issue, because, you know, im an economic reporter, so i get kind of jazzed about this stuff. Sure. Trish you know, capri, hes talking about that something that republicans havent really they want free trade, but part of that has always been, okay, well, you know, we take chinas goods in without a tariff. Its okay that they slap a tariff on us. Do you think he would actually be able to create a scenario i mean, and this would take some really serious negotiation with a lot of other countries to say, okay, its got to work both ways. Yeah with. I mean, i think one of the things that he needs to do if he wants to be serious and he obviously is in regards to trade policy, is we need to move away from a multilateral trade environment which weve been operating in over the last 20plus years between nafta and the wto and go to a bilateral trade system. When you have a pi lateral system, i think you have more of an opportunity for negotiation. I think that may be what hes thinking about, more of a bilateral movement trish more level playing field. When youre dealing on a bilateral trade, you do have an opportunity to make it more fair as opposed to having all these cooks in the kitchen. I would think that would be maybe where his heads at. Trish let me ask you, ford, how do you think hes going to perform tonight, and we take anything away from what we saw . He was fired up, clearly fired up. Is that kind of energy going to continue into what we see on stage tonight at the debate . I absolutely expect it to because youve got to understand something. He doesnt forget things. Last debate he actually got cuban sandwiched between ruin owe and cruz. Rubio and cruz. And, frankly, no matter how he performs, his supporters are going to stay with him. The key is for folks in florida and ohio who are sitting on the fence. If he has a great performance, chances are they will. Both in ohio at least in ohio, i know for a fact in ohio weve been voting since after president s day. We have early voting. So theres already a lot of votes that have already been baked. Capri, im a florida voter, so i totally understand. Mine has not been cast, but im not going to tell you who it is. Ie at a rally in maine, after mitt romney gave a blistering speech at the university of you told that ripped trump. The billionaire businessman meaning trump not taking the attack lying down. Calling romney a quote choke artist. Using the term no less than five times during the speech that trump just wrapped up. No choking earlier by romney, though, the 2012 gop nominee gave a 17minute long speech before noon during which he made what some are calling the strongest antitrump case to date. Romney calling trump
