Well, you are about to meet the hero florist who helped cops catch the South Carolina suspect. And you are going to hear that and even more today because mornings are better with friends. Hi everybody. Welcome to our friday telecast. Were going to start with the biggest news that everybody is talking about and it is a fox news alert. A killer caught. The suspect in the Charleston Church massacre behind bars this morning after opening fire inside that house of worship, murdering nine people in cold blood. All units responding. 110 calhoun state. Please send out an ems command page advising them of an active shooter, multiple people down. Those 911 calls describing the horrific moments happening inside the church. Our own Ainsley Earhardt is live in charleston and has been following all these breaking developments for you at home. Reporter were learning that he is going to be in court today. This community, i should say, the chan family charleston family is trying to move past this. Nine people were murdered here on wednesday night in this church. The suspect is going to be in court today for a bond hearing. Let me tell you about what happened in this church just moments before those bullets started to fly. Theres some snapchat video from one of the victims posted this on line showing a gunman in the bible study sitting around that table, venting eventually after an hour of bible study about africanamericans. He said you are taking over your country. I have to do what i have to do. He pulls out a gun and he kills nine people inside this church. Whats ironic is that the church and reverend pinckneyweekold him which is not welcomed him which is not surprising. He told me that the black people was taking over the country and that the that he wanted it to be segregation. All right. That was one of his friends, but the state senator just said it doesnt surprise him because this church welcomed everyone. Were being told by the uncle that the dad gave the suspect a gun for his 21st birthday in april. That was just two months ago. The mom, according to some of his relatives, was not happy about that. Wanted to take the gun from him. Police were sent to his moms house, which is in columbia South Carolina my home time two hours away they did find anti africanamerican videos in his home and skin head paraphernalia. And he had wanted to plan a civil war and had been planning this for six months. Were not sure why that friend never went to authorities about that. Others are telling us he was an avid drug user. He was frequently popping pills. He was picked up in february for having suboxen. There will be a bond hearing at 2 00 here to the Detention Center hes waking up this morning behind bars. Whats interesting is now suddenly a bunch of his former roommates and friends are speaking and one of the people that he said he was going to kill a lot of people said that he told him, the original target was going to be the nearby college of charleston and not the church. So you wonder why he changed that. Also if you were tuning in yesterday at this time we had a Live Press Event with the chief of police down there who showed the car and the picture and we showed that on the air, and, you know we originally surmised thats got to be a wig or Something Like that. That was actually the bowl cut hair cut that he had and the sweatshirt that he was wearing, apparently one of guys who knew him, this joey meek guy recognized this stained sweatshirt because if you notice above his on his right shoulder thats a big stain, he got that when he was working at a landscape company. And ainsley alluded to this as well, he would been playing a civil war and said he was going to commit suicide after doing this awful, awful thing that he did out of racism and out of hate. You know you see that he was actually in trouble with the law beforehand. He was brought to the attention he was Walking Around a mall asking bizarre questions to people there. It put him in a spotlight to police. How many people work here . What time do you close . And with those drug charges later on and he was under a lot of pressure to get a job. He dropped out of ninth grade. He was found with some drugs on him. Including a drug that helps you get off opium. He had that same hl low hollow look as adam lansa. He says when i knew him before he never talked about race or any problem he had, but he talked about he talkede was angry over the Trayvon Martin shooting and wanted something to spark up a race war again, if im doing this im making sure sure that the authorities know that this guy is a little bit dangerous and hes got a gun. We heard a lot about this this wreched killer and we would like to focus a little bit on those killed. And were looking at this. This is extraordinary. This is video from inside the church. As you can see down in one of the meeting rooms before he started killing everybody inside. It was shot by the youngest victim. She posted this on snapchat. Her name tywanza sand evers. Whats interesting is hes the lone white person in this room. Whats interesting about this dylann roof and it was not unusual, apparently for people to just drop in for prayer meetings because they had so many tourists in the area and somebody came in and they said i would like to stay and they would welcome them with open arms. Tywanza sanders was actually a poet. He wanted to have his poems published before his death. Dylann roof specifically asked when he came in hey, i would like to see the reverend could you introduce me to the reverend and he sat right next to him the whole time sat through the prayer meeting for 45 minutes and stood up and said i got to kill you all. In the show were looking to speak with the florist to called in the tip to police. She watched fox news and she heard the description, saw what was going on had been up praying the entire night about this because she was in church on her own time the night before. She saw the car and thought could this be it and ended up pulling off the road and got back on the highway and followed him. Were going to speak with her. What a brave act to end up with this guy now in the hands of authorities after killing nine people. Her actions are heroic. Shes supposed to marry a military guy this weekend, this saturday or sunday so thats pretty unblevenl the set of circumstances there and they were pretty much a couple of miles from their house before he was pulled over and captured. Im calling it divine intervention. I believe god had a plan in it and as i was driving to work i was running late. I actually seen i look over and i seen the car and it looked familiar to me and i wondered why, now as i look back over it was because of the pictures i seen on the news. I went past him and i seen the South Carolina tag on the back of it and i seen the white tag on the front of his car. And the bowl hair cut. See, that was the key. Yesterday morning, we didnt know what to make of that hair. We thought maybe it was a disguise it might have been a hair net, but that was his actual hair cut. So you pull alongside him and you realize hey, thats him, as you are driving down highway 74 so what did you do . Well, i got a little nervous, ill be honest with you. I got a little nervous, but i just started talking to the lord about it and then i got off of the exit to come on into Kings Mountain and i started thinking about it, what if it really was him, i wasnt sure it was him, i didnt want to get anybody else in trouble or be overreacting so i called my boss and he said well we need to call somebody and he got on the phone with the Kings Mountain police and he stayed on the phone with me and he told me to get back on the 74 bypass and thats what i did i was able to catch up with him and get right behind him and get his tag number and the Kings Mountain police and the shelby city Police Caught him within a matter of minutes and it was him. Yeah it was, debbie. I understand you went back on and you followed him for more miles. When you looked in the car and saw him besides noticing the hair cut, did he look nervous, like he was on the run . Did anything strange occur to you . No he wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary. He looked like a very young young man. Debbie you are a hero. I know you are not saying you are one, but there was such unrest around the country after hearing that nine people were killed by this man in a church while they were praying. Do you ask god why me . He would have driven by hundreds if not thousands of cars but you were the one who actually picked up the phone and called your boss todd and said what should i do . Thats the kind of god that i serve, thats my god, and he puts us where we need to be when we need to be. Right. So debbie i know youve had a crazy 24 hours as youve talked about this 14 hours after he kills nine he ends up driving right by where you live and the big picture right now, as you walked around you are talking to people whats the sense whats the sense around the community and your community where he was captured and your sense in the region . Well, the people here my boss my friends, my family they are more concerned about the people in charleston and thats where we feel like the focus needs to be is on those people. Sorry. Its so surreal, all of my friends in charleston and my family in South Carolina we cant believe this is happening in our state because it is such a tight community and such a community that just rallies around one another and loves one another. I did live on smith street which is a few blocks that way when i interned at the nbc affiliate. This is the church behind us where the shootings happened on wednesday. Nine People Killed here. You can see the flowers and wreaths and white bows representing those lives that were lost. Today will be a bond hearing for the suspect. He is back here. He spent the night in jail here in charleston last night and well have a bond hearing at 2 00. Well be reporting on that. We talked a lot about the suspect. Lets talk about these victims because they were the ones doing the right thing. I want to start with the reverend clementa pinckney, he was 41 years old, a state senator. Leaves behind two kids and a wife. Also there was reverend that Rhonda Coleman singleton. She was the mother a speech therapist. She was the track coach at goose creek, a local school here. Her son attends southern charleston university. His entire Baseball Team met last night for a prayer vigil. Love never feels. Tonight, lord let him feel the love of jesus, when he feels the love of jesus, then hes feeling the love of his mother. Another victim i want to talk about is taiwan za sanders, he died trying to save the live of his aunt. He was 26 years old. S his loved ones that he was trying to protect is susie jackson, we hear from William Gregory says she was like a mother to him. Most of the people that were killed are people that i grew up with in the church. And you knew every Single Person who died all nine of them . Every single one. Thats out emanuel is. Apparently one of the reverends cousins told a news outlet they were told by a survivor at one point the reverend told this guy with the gun to stop it and the guy with the gun said i have to do it he went on to say, you rape our women and you are taking over our country and hes concerned about the women and he shot six of them in cold blood. I think it is time to take a fresh look at Church Security across our country. Its not the churches that we grew up in any more. We do have very real threats as weve seen across the country and i think its time to look afresh and anew at how we protect our congregations, our children because its not going to change in the near future. Unfortunately, its probably going to get worse. I think it is time to look. Okay tim, somebody who is in the pulpit every sunday is bishop jackson. He had this to say about that yesterday. I would urge pastors and men in these churches to prepare to defend themselves. Its sad but i think we got to arm ourselves, at least have people in the church who are prepared to defend the church when women and children are attacked. One of the problems is that churches for the most vulnerable. That is correct. I agree with the mass pastor. I have the privilege of traveling across the country and meeting some of these great pastors and to be honest i dont want them to have to worry about the security of their church and packing heat themselves themselves. I would love for good men and women across the country to rise up and help protect their congregations. Theres some training involved but it starts with the condominium, a commitment of the leadership the recognition of the problem. I think the good news is across the country when good men and women stand, there can be some Great Results because they will be more engaged. Thats true. Its pretty much the same thing in the schools. Should we arm the teachers or should we get armed guards to protect the school . If you had to make a choice between training pastors and getting private security to work it what would you do . I think brian theres a good middle ground there. I think there is a need for professional security at some of these churches but i also think theres a Grassroots Efforts within the church that can make the churches safer. I like to train congregations that Church Security is a team sport. Everybody son the Church Security team. When you shift their mind sets then you have more resources brought to the battle. We need professional security and nows the time to do that. I think theres needs to be a fundamental mind set, churches are no longer places where we can no longer have security. It has to change. Of course it would be great if they could hire private outfits. A lot of them dont have money. Your hands are closed your hands open and your eyes closed. I think private security may be the answer. We woke up today and the heart and soul of South Carolina was broken. Joining us right now from South Carolina is governor nikki haley. Governor thank you very much for joining us. I know you guys are really busy down there. As days go yesterday had to be one of the toughest of your life as governor. It hands down was the toughest. The past couple of days not just for me but for the people of South Carolina. I mean this is a devastating, devastating situation to deal with. Its never anything that we thought we were going to have to deal with but were a strong prayerful state, well come together and well get through this. Sure. Governor practically speaking are people afraid to go to church now and if so, is security stepping at churches all across your area there . You know i mean its something that we never thought we were going to have to talk about. Going to a place of worship is a place that you are vulnerable. You forget the world for a while, you are there to focus and just think about god and all the blessings do you have. Never do you think that you have to worry about walking into a church and being concern that something is going to happen. Yes, it is conversations that moms like me are having with their sons which is what we had yesterday. Were having conversations with our children for the first time about what that means. Having said that i think conversations well change. I think youll see churches in general start to have security start to have to do those things. Its a different day and time. President obama used that as an opportunity for us to be cognizant about gun control, at some point, its going to be important for the American People to come to grips with it and how we think about the issue of gun violence collectively. Apparently hes got a job today. My job is there are nine families who are incredibly hurt. There is a Emanuel Ame Church family thats beside hem themselves the timing right now is not right for South Carolina. The timing is to heal. We have a suspect at hand. Now we want to start the healing process. Once we get through the healing process, i know there will be a lot of conversation. People so desperately during a time like this want something to blame, and the truth and the truth is theres a very evil kid out there that we need to blame and thats where the focus is. It wasnt on a thing. It was on a person. Absolutely. I talked with my investigators yesterday, they said they looked pure evil in the eye. Thats what were talking about. Is a kid that thought in a way that people in South Carolina dont think. If you dont mind what did you tell your son . Because thats the conversation a lot of people need to have. Well, its an emotional conversation to have because you dont think you are going to have to have that with your son, but he wanted to know what we knew. He wanted to know why this happened and he said they were at bible study. On wednesdays in South Carolina many families are at church and so he wanted to know why this happened and what the reasoning was and i said you know all we can say is this is pure hate and thats not what you go into a church to do. You go into church to love and i will tell you if you saw South Carolina today, there are hugs there are prayers, there are people just consoling each other.
