This is the future of the presidency on the line here. The white house is saying look, you need to follow precedents have been set down in the case of the impeachment of nixon and clinton. There were votes in the house of representatives to authorize a committee, in this case the nixon case, it was the Judiciary Committee in the senate and the case of bill clinton, it was the Judiciary Committee in the house, to go ahead and begin an investigation into the possible impeachment of the president. But nancy pelosi side stepped that whole thing when she stood up during a press conference and simply declared unilaterally that she was opening an investigation, an impeachment inquiry to the president and handed it off to adam schiff. Kevin mccarthy sent a letter to nancy pelosi yesterday that in some ways will mirror what the white house im told is going to say. He said you have given no clear indication as to how your impeachment inquiry will proceed, whether predents or basic standards of due process will be observed such as do you intend to hold a vote of the full house authorizing your impeachment inquiry. Nancy pelosi in response to that insisting theres no need to hold a floor vote. She said theres no requirement under the constitution, under house rules or precedent that the whole house vote before proceeding with impeachment inquiry. President denying again today that hes asking countries like ukraine and china to dig up political dirt on joe biden. Insisting several times this morning that his interest isnt political.
