So bit by bit, we are seeing this expanded across the country, which would seem to indicate in future numbers, that they are going to be up. Do you agree with that . It depends on consumers and how much they spend. We can open up all we want, but if people dont spend money, they are just going to close right down. It really depends. Any resurgence is going to come from consumer demand. Thats the uncertainty right now. Are people confident theyre going to get their jobs back . 18 Million People thought that these were just temporary layoffs. If thats the case, are they going to start spending money . Thats what we dont know. Great consumer demand, things are to go back up. If they dont, things could get worse. Neil thats a good point. 1 out of 5 americans dont think they will be getting their jobs back. That number has deteriorated somewhat. But let me get your sense of that because even allowing for comeback of the economy just if you are going by distancing rules, not everyone is going to get back. At least not right away. Whether its a weak business are not, right . Those rules alone will limit how many return to work. I hired a company to do a survey and dallas, over 1,000 companies, only 36 of companies actually did open up. And so we will survey them again to see what kind of business they are doing. But with only 36 opening up, thats your indication right there. Neil do you look out the market at all, the way that things are going right now, ma mark . Obviously, theyve been climbing a lot. All of the major averages are up from their lows. Despite all these numbers. The nasdaq positive on the year, the dow, 5,000 points from his old eyes. Is this getting too much . I think its too much, but i understand why. Look at boeing. We thought boeing was to need a bailout. There is so much liquidity, it is easier for companies to raise money, self that created a level of confidence, then just the rush of liquidity from the fed, and then third, globally, where else can you put your money . Not just american investors but International Investors are putting their money and our markets, so i think over time, the market is going to have to reflect what is actually happening, and what you said earlier is right. Looking forward, but when we catch up, it will be interesting to see what happens. Neil i think it tends to follow whatever progress is on the virus itself. Not so much of the stimulus. But still, even when you look forward, if you look at what businesses are actually doing, they are adjusting, they are agile, and so the way business is going to be done in 2021 is not the same as it was done in february of 2020, and i dont think that the market is taking that into consideration. And part two to five, just the uncertainty in terms of jobs and consumer demand. Even if we start to have therapies and vaccines, does that mean everyone is going to start spending their money . 56 of our gdp is consumer demand, and i dont see that all of a sudden exploding, and i dont see people wanting to go into debt to buy things like we have historically. And though we cram that, they can go inside. What we did is we put a working group of businessmen, women in each sector. For example, in the restaurant area, we had people who run restaurants. Big ones, small ones. Its little diners. Have them come up with the best practice is working with the local Health People. So the interesting thing is there really wasnt much dispute on these panels that we put together. The Health People were pretty much insane with the Business People and vice versa. We want to come up with the best practices, so when you open your restaurant backup, they go there, everything is being done, you know, to protect you. Did the same thing with all kinds of retail. Manufacturing. So its and also, youll be able to get a haircut. You know. In about a week. [laughs] but again, getting people who understand the best practices, something that actually works because this economy will not come back. I think you said on your show a minute ago is not going to come back just because you lift orders. Its going to come back because babel starts having confidence that they can if they are careful go out and do things and buy things, and thats really what its all about. We are trying to come back in a way, that people can have some confidence. It has been thought through, and if they go to a restaurant, certain norms are going to be practice there. Neil you know, every state encountered protest. You, trying to be cautious and protect peoples health, they are saying come on, governor, speeded up. How do you address that . Well, i believe in the first amendment, and some of them have taken after my health director, and i have been real plain that the buck stops with me. I making the decisions. Dont protest at the house of my health director. Thats not really the thing to do. You have the right to do it, but why dont you just come after the guy who makes the decisions . A lot of people think im going to slow. A lot of people think im going to fast. Were just trying to get this right in no way where we can come back, protect people, and we also, you know, want to continue to warrant semi born people. If you are over 65 or 70 years of age, if you have hypertension, asthma, different kinds of medical problems, you just need to be a lot more careful. And you need to watch out because the virus is still here. Its not going away just because its summer and it looks great outside, it doesnt mean that the virus is any less lethal than it has been in the past, so trying to do two things at once. Chris, what they are saying is he put his heavy hand on the scale of justice, and hes got to go. What do you think of that . This was a perfect exercise of his discretion. Highest Law Enforcement official in the land, and i think he is trying to create a deterrent from this kind of thing, as far as jim comey, peter strzok, and all the players in the inner circle that were actually running this investigation. Neil so, did he call the shots on these kind of matters, chris . The staff recommends this. Could he, obviously, over stuff . I dont know if this would be to disruptive . He could. He was the director of the fbi, but he also answers to the attorney general. The attorney general rates his performance, for example. So he can be in this type of case, the investigation of the president ial appointee, he would have to confer with the department of justice, so they could overrule him. Certainly they could overrule the case agent, but ive never seen this and 24 years in the business. 24 and the fbi. Ive been a prosecutor. I have never seen the lead or the director of the fbi actually step in and call the shots, individual shots in an investigation like this. Neil no one seems to care about that. They do care about whether attorney general barr himself intervenes in this personally. That does not look like it was the case. To your point regarding the former fbi director. But it looks as though this was a pretty consensus recommendation. Neil we had another u. S. Attorney, looking into the facts of this case. A lot of information to work with. I mean, there are issues on entrapment. There are issues of withholding exculpatory information from general flynn. Fundamental fairness and due process that comes into play, so he has every right to step in and deter this type of conduct. They may not even be punished because they are all out of the fbi. They left in disgrace. But they left this trail behind them of all of this mess that has got to be cleaned up, and ag barr, he has got the judgment, the experience to step in and do whats right. Neil this entrapment feeling, other legal experts have said no, no this is just standard procedure. I dont recall such procedure. Do you . No. I mean, i reviewed all the issues of entrapment, and theres two elements to it. You have to have a lack of predisposition and to the government cannot generate the conduct. In other words, the government induces the conduct, that it is entrapment. I think there are very legitimate issues here. As a matter of law, it is really hard to show entrapment at a trial. Judges will make that ruling, but juries dont. I think there is a case of misconduct on the pretext interview conducting this type of interview without a supporting investigation, this is a counterintelligence investigation, trying to hammer it into a criminal investigation, which it wasnt. So there are a lot of things wrong with this, and i think the ags actions were absolutely warranted. I think it took a lot of courage. Neil thank you very much. I do appreciate it. He tried to suggest that the last three years were worse than the previous aid economically. He tried to say that this president is focused on the stock market went about every third word that we hear is jobs, jobs, jobs. He said he delayed action, and this is the same democratic candidate who criticized President Trumps early decision to ban travel from china as enough of it, racist, and fearmongering. And then he used the word corruption, which if i was the father of Hunter Bryant in, mr. Ukrainian energy expert, i think i would be a little concerned about using that word. Now today the campaign is ejecting that the Biden Campaign is attacking the very popular and apparently very successful ppp program. The markets are looking forward and hoping that things turn around and these numbers are rearview numbers, but if the economy then begins to catch up, you would assume that it does. More states open. Even that argument is going to be a tough one. Yeah. The intangible that we dont know, and biden is stuck on one side of this and trying to take advantage of it. Look. The economy tanked because of a virus. And i am not certain that people are going to hold the president responsible for the economy thinking, but they are going to judge how well is he doing at helping the economy recover . So biden is trying to set himself up so that he can criticize a slowgrowing economy and say i would have done better. I think the problem with that is twofold. We all dont know how the economy is going to do, and the faster it recovers, the more difficult it is to make that argument, and back to the point that i made earlier, he is essentially saying trust me. The eight years that we had under obamabiden were better, and im not sure that a lot of americans believe that. Weve seen that in the polling data, so i understand why hes trying to do it. I think if i were on his team, i would be encouraging him to be thinking a little more artfully about how to do it and not as they did with all of these things for the Vice President speech and built into his advertising. Neil but do you worry that a lot of folks are living in the here and now . That could change, the worst of it, some of these numbers, that people work prepared for this, may be moving past that, but if its a slow recovery and people are concerned or, god forbid, there is a spike in cases, so many variables come into your point, that we dont know.
