Happening today, a San Francisco jail is set to reopen while a second one is still closed. Both jails were locked down over the weekend due to violence at both facilities. Abc seven News Reporter ryan curry live at the jail on seventh and bryant streets. And ryan. There was another attack at one of these jails. Yeah, thats right. Kumasi two inmates at the san bruno jail barricaded themselves in a cell with handmade weapons. And because of that, the san bruno jail is remaining closed while the San Francisco one behind me is set to reopen. The two jails have been under lockdown since last friday, while authorities investigated the recent attacks. The sheriff says as many as seven Staff Members and nine deputies have been injured since late march. Deputies warned the sheriff Something Like this would happen. Nearly 100 of them signed a letter back in november to the sheriff, saying they have critical levels of staffing shortage. Deputies in san bruno said they were mentally and physically exhausted in fights. Drug use and assaults all have increase on staff. The sheriff described some of the injuries over the past week. As i mentioned, weve had a number of deputies go out on injuries that include punches to the head, face and neck being spit at and kicked in. The head slammed against walls, which resulted in the injuries of bone fractures, dislocated shoulders and bloody eye sockets. The sheriff tells us one of the main reasons for this uptick in violence is the lack of space to spread out prisoners. Another main factor, he says, is the large number of violent offenders who are remaining in custody for longer periods of time. However, staffing remains a big concern for the sheriffs department. Normally, theyre supposed to have around 500 workers at the two county jails, but right now they have less than 400. So something they have to address going forward. Live in San Francisco. Our Media Partners at the sf standard spoke with three women accusing john jacobo of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. The women told the standard they all filed police reports, but they say those reports didnt go anywhere. Jacobo was a director for the housing nonprofit tenants and owners development corporation. Sf standard reporter josh cain says the women feared more violence from jacobo. If they spoke out. These accusations are very explosive, very damaging and there was a lot of fear for not only their professional careers, but also their safety. San franciscos police chief says his department is investigating the three womens reports. Meanwhile, protesters who shut down the Golden Gate Bridge are not being charged with a crime for now. But that could change District AttorneyBrooke Jenkins says her office needs more time. Protesters gathered outside the San Francisco county jail yesterday, where 26 people were booked on multiple charges, including felony conspiracy. But jenkins didnt file charges before the deadline yesterday. She says her Office Needs Help from witnesses who were stuck on the bridge. Jenkins says charges are indeed coming. Bart is giving cash refunds to people who turn in their paper blue and white tickets, and now requires riders to use clipper cards for access into bart stations. Two our attorneys. And theres an it consultant originally from puerto rico who called trump fascinating and mysterious, adding he walks into a room and he sets people off. One way or another. Lawyers have been questioning the jury pool, looking at their social media for potential bias. One man was asked about a 2017 Facebook Post where he wrote, get him out and lock him up. That man was dismissed from the case. The states attorney general is set to release that information later this afternoon. The report is expected to address the 72 hours before, during and after the fire. The Maui Fire Department yesterday released its own report about what happened. The western Fire Chiefs Association was hired to make its own third party after action report. It highlights at least 17 areas for improvement along with recommendations including the Fire Department needing more equipment after dealing with poorly stocked fire engines. All backup firefighting vehicles needing to be kept ready to go and there should be a statewide Mutual Aid Program and an evacuation plan for residents and tourists who speak different languages. Maui county Officials Say the Fire Department has already started addressing these challenge areas. The cause for the wildfires is still unclear and is still under investigation by the atf. Instead of remodeling homes, prosecutors say he was taking that money and spending it on lavish items for himself. Charles todd hill from the hgtv show flip it to win. It is also ordered to pay close to 10 million for real estate and financial fraud. The prosecutor in the case says hill scams, including a ponzi scheme, impacted 18 homes in silicon valley. The point was to purchase the home and remodel them and sell them for a profit. He would take the money that was given to remodel the home and spend it on luxury cars, vacations, partying, as he has stated and then in order to account for that, he would label it as construction costs. Victims were left with either unfinished homes or barely finished homes that they had to finish themselves. Hill was indicted in 2019. Convicted last year. Yesterday, he was sentenced to four years in jail. Jewish americans experience a 140 increase in antisemitic incidents last year. Thats the biggest increase in 45 years. Adl Officials Say the increase is even worse in Northern California, with more than 500 total incidents. Thats a 202 increase from 2022. The leap in antisemitism is both and alarming for Northern California and the greater bay area. In what is supposed to be a progressive stronghold tolerant of people of all backgrounds is a growing and poisonous hatred of jews. According to the audit, there were 397 incidents of targeted online and inperson harassment and seven assaults and 98 acts of vandalism in Northern California. The audit comes on the heels of a report by the countrys largest muslim civil rights organization, showing the largest spike in antimuslim hate in 30 years in sacramento. The push for reparations for black californians is moving forward. Yesterday, two bills were voted out of the Committee Process with little opposition. The first bill would establish a fund to finance reparation measures by moving 6 of funds set aside annually, and the special fund for economic uncertainties. The second bill, sb 1050, would establish a procedure to restore property taken during race based uses of Eminent Domain to its original owners, or provide compensation.
