Three people arrested today and investigators are confident one of them is the criminal who had been evading them for the last day. Details from katie marzullo. Reporter the manhunt actually started yesterday morning in Scotts Valley when the bank of america was robbed and that manhunt, youll remember, forced the closure of highway 17 for almost ten hours. San jose police swarmed the area of mission and 7th streets after spotting a stolen car linked to a bank robbery. A silver chevy taken from a home in the Santa Cruz Mountains that happens to be an unmarked Law Enforcement vehicle. Police had followed the car from downtown to an apartment complex. Michael bonnell lives there. He says he heard a loud noise, went outside and encountered police. They hailed me to come out past the gate. And with their weapons drawn at me and told me to put my hands up. So of course i did. Police told him to evacuate the area. People in nearby homes had to shelter in place. Police say there were three people in the silver car. They took two into custody without incident. But the third man ran. I cant overstate the danger that he posed to the people that live in that complex. Reporter the suspect made his way from the apartment property to a neighboring construction site. They told us to evacuate everybody on site, police are on site with guns ready to shoot, get everybody out. Reporter an officer deployed a taser at one point and the man was eventually taken into custody. At the time authorities didnt know for sure if the men were involved in Thursdays Bank robbery in Scotts Valley, but they knew they had to be cautious. They were occupants of a stolen vehicle. And when we challenged them and attempted to arrest him he fled. When we attempted to take him into custody, he resisted. Reporter police say the men are being questioned separately as the investigation into the bank robbery continues. In san jose katie marzullo, abc 7 news. We have some breaking news now. Moments ago crews rescued a man who fell several dozen feet near those abandoned apartments in pacifica. Abc 7 news was at esplanade avenue was he was pulled to safety. The apartments there have been red tagged because theyre falling into the ocean. Responders say the man got in through a fence and then he fell down the cliff. He appeared to be alert when they hoisted him up. Speaking of esplanade avenue, demolition work will start on monday on one of those apartment complexes, sitting right on top of that eroding cliff. You can see how the ground below the building at 310 esplanade has simply vanished. This a look from sky 7. Pacifica officials decided last year nobody could live in the building. Crews have already knocked down two other buildings on esplanade avenue. In developing news, tonight theres swift reaction to President Trumps sweeping executive order to ban refugees plus people from seven muslim countries. Heres what it includes. An immediate suspension of immigration from countries with ties to terror. Also a suspension of all refugees for 120 days. Reporter ama, churches and other religious groups in the bay area that advocate for refugees are dismayed by this executive order and members of the Muslim Community say they feel like theyre being unfairly targeted. The executive order signed by President Donald Trump fulfills one of the promises he made on the campaign trail. We only want to admit those into our country who will support our country and love deeply our people. Reporter the order bans entry of most people traveling to the United States with passports from seven countries iran, iraq, syria, sudan, libya, yemen, and somalia. The president ial order met with swift reaction from the council on American Islamic relations. If someone is a noncitizen in the United States and theyre from one of the seven countries that the Trump Administration is targeting, we would suggest that they consult with an attorney before any international travel. Reporter according to cnn, google has sent out an advisory to employees from these seven countries to cancel any travel out of the u. S. Basam rafai with the syrianamerican council says he has a friend who has a u. S. Green card and is already being affected by this executive order. Reporter Republic Services processes garbage, recycling, and green waste from all over contra costa county. Inspectors discovered large compost piles that werent maintained properly. The county knows of seven fires at the facility. If you dont turn these piles, the opposite of turning rancid, they can actually start automatically catching fire.
