We started this summer in may with a 20 reduction and by the last month i think august or september, we were almost at 30 . In petaluma a student pilot is dead after a plane crash earlier this afternoon. You can see from sky 7 hd the small custom painted glider is in pieces. Abc 7 News ReporterTiffany Wilson is live off browns lane and this happened pretty close to the airport. Witnesses say that the experimental lmxl 2 aircraft was flying this way into the wing when they heard a pop and then the aircraft crashed into the hillside below. Sky 7 hd flew over the wreckage and, again the ultralight crash just about a mile away from the petaluma airport. Several workers ran over to help, but it was too late. They called 911 and Emergency Responders confirmed what they already knew. The pilot died on impact. He was the only occupant of the aircraft. Several of the pilots friends stopped by the crash site and they say the man was training to become a pilot for six months. He was still considered a student pilot but planned on taking his pilots license test this week. The ntsb is going to investigate this crash. In fact, the investigator just arrived here on scene a few minutes ago. But, again, witnesses say that it sounded like there was something to do with the engine that went wrong. Im seeing the airplane fly that way to the airport. And we hear a noise like explosion. Coming down. A 15year veteran pilot tells me that this is a very common area for new planes to fly because a lot of places to land in a pinch. The pilot i spoke with said he remembers at least two emergency landings in these fields. He said engine failure is common among small planes and flying into the wind should have helped the pilot to land safely so he doesnt understand what went so tragically wrong. New details show the copilot of the Germanwings Flight may have repeatedly accelerated as he used auto pilot to descend. The new findings from the planes black box voice recorder indicate lubitz accelerated in order to speed up the crash. Hundreds of people packed into st. Patricks Catholic Church for the stations of the cross this afternoon. Church goers lit candles and prayed for loved one durings the ceremony. Today scott lobado showed off his latest work at the vfw hall in antioch. He painted a 50 foot by 28foot mural on the side of the building. He painted the flag more than 1,000 times in his life. A miraculous rescue on easter weekend, no less. A man was missing for more than two months in the Atlantic Ocean finally reunited with his family. Abc 7 News Reporter has his story. An incredible tale of survival. You can see in this video the coast guard hoisting the man out of the helicopter into safety. He said god answered his prayers. Lost at sea for 66 days in a stroke of luck a cargo ship spotted jordan yesterday. This is a dramatic rescue of the 37yearold being pulled to safety by the coast guard. Jordan was found more than 200 miles off the coast of north carolina. The whole time i was out there waving my arms and they eventually saw it. They saw it on the front of the boat waving my arms. Reporter he set out on a routine fishing trip on january 23rd. Reported missing six days later, but no one could find him and the search was called off. He describes when his boat capsized. What ended up happening was i woke up in the middle of the night and i was flying through the air and somummersulting and rolling around in this water. Reporter jordan survived by collecting rain water and catching fish with his bare hands. He prayed for a miracle to see his parents again. His father described feeling guilt the entire time because he had introduced his son to boating. I was utterly grateful and thankful to people who rescued him. And i was grateful that my parents were not going to be worried about me. Reporter an emotional reunion on this easter, hugs and kisses all around. My baby had come home. Thanks to the clear images in this video captured by surveillance cameras outside the gang way bar on larkin street, police have arrested Arthur Lee Jones of fairfield. They say hes the man in the video seen striking a homeless man in the head with a metal pipe. One of our officers around 10 45 spotted the individual, the suspect right on the corner of larkin and gary. Reporter the arrest comes just over 24 hours after the crime. A vicious and unprovoked beating that sent the victim to the hospital in critical condition. Justin cunningham saw it happen. He is the man you can see smoking a cigarette in the video. After i looked up after lighting a smoke, robert was hit on the head by a pipe and now this guy is almost walking on top of me. In San FranciscoKatie Marzullo abc 7 news. Eight San FranciscoPolice Officers are now suspended for their role in a racist text messaging scandal. Chief greg announced the suspensions today at police headquarters. A total of 14 officers were under investigation, but not all of them sent or received the text. The eight he suspended have been referred to the Police Commission with the following recommendations
