An investigation is underway in fremont after police opened fire killing a man they say was carrying a large knife near a neighborhood park. Witnesses describe the terrifying moments leading up to the shooting. If all started near Lake Arrowhead avenue and ended at the park. Katie marzullo has more. I look at his face and i thought he looks kind of scary. Joann lives near harry park in fremont. She thinks she saw the man the Police Called and witnessed him fighting with another man. He kept saying get away from me, get away from me andest backing up and the other guy was Going Forward and the other guy Going Forward. The man back away was a young contractor work on an empty house. At one point he called out. The guy said call the police, he has a knife. Alison did not see a knife. It was someone else who called the police. That caller reported there was a subject walking down the street with a large knife, and he had pulled it out and was advancing toward young a young kid. Three officers arrived and found the man at the park. One officer fired his taser. Another fired his gun and the man, described only as being in his 40s, was killed. We do know that the subject had the knife in his hand at the time of the encounter. But as to what exactly happened at that point its still to be determined through the investigation. Police continue to interview witnesses and they ask anyone who might have Surveillance Video of the shoot to go come forward. In fremont, Katie Marzullo abc7 news. The third shooting in the past three days. Richmond police shot a man after they say he pulled a handgun on an officer thursday. Mr. Gonzalez is in Critical Condition. Police sad he was ahe haved for for dealing drugs and possession of a firearm. And in Fairfield Police shot and killed a 36yearold man jose, thursday morning after responding to a disturbance call. Officers say he charged at them with a knife. 5 03, the time. Protesters marched in San Francisco last night to demonstrate against police violence. [chanting] a crowd of more than 100 gathered no front of the Mission District. Earlier in the evening the crowd chanted black lives matter to dining customers. They marched for several blocks, stopping at cafes and restaurants along the way. Police looked on but did not interfere as the protests remained peaceful. Its a crime that left many shocked and disgusted. So much so an entire Community Came together to help the man that was hit by a truck and then robbed by witnesses. 25yearold greg lowrie was struck while riding his bike tuesday in oakland. Alan wang reports on just how much the community really cares. Oakland police are still looking for the suspects who robbed cyclist greg lowrie. It happened while he was lying on the street unconscious after being hit by a truck on tuesday at the intersection of 8th and union street. Another group also robbed the driver of that truck. Are you getting any response . No. No response. His mother said her son is still in Critical Condition at hyland hospital with brain trauma broken bones and lacerated organs. I think its my fault. If i hadnt lost our dog and home we would have had a vehicle and he wouldnt have been on street here. Lowrie and his mother has been living in an rv. He was battling heart problems and was riding to the hospital for treatment when he was truck struck. Its a sad story that compelled a lot of people to reach out and do something. A lucky driver just barely escaped getting hit by a falling eucalyptus tree in the east bay. Tree came down around 6 00 last night. The driver wasnt hurt because the tree fell on back side of the car. The tree however, did knockout power in the area for more than a couple of hours. Part of corliss drive is still blocked off while crews remove the tree. One has been expelled from true after being accused of attack a teammate. They have been charged with three felonies, including assault with a deadly weapon. The mother said they were chose, but his daughter had a falling out with the other women. At the went to allen witt park in fairfield on monday to settle her differences. She had a fracture and a cut that required stitches. In San Francisco, protesters banged meltal spoons on subway pillars and blocked passengers from getting off trains. There are plans to make it a weekly event every friday. Protesters are demanding charges be dropped against a group that chained themselves to train last november. They say there has to be a better way. It involves couples who lost their appeals to marry or to have their marriages recognized in those states. Today only 14 states ban same sex marriages. Chris was the plaintiff behind proposition 8, which cleared the way for six sex marriages in california. She spoke to us over the phone from washington, d. C. Its a really joyous day to see the possibility that another group will have that opportunity. And i am extremely hopeful that they will rule the right way they will rule in the way of fairness and equality. The questions before the justices would be do gays and lesbians have a constitutional right to marry or do states have a right to ban them. The four liberals will vote in favor of same sex marriages. In february 2004, San Francisco began issuing samesex marriage licenses until an order to stop from the california Supreme Court. 2005 the state Legislature Passed a bill legalizing samesex marriage. It was then vetoed by governor arnold schwarzenegger. Three years later proposition 8 passed banning samesex marriage. Two years it was it was ruled invalid making samesex marriage legal in california. Then yesterday the Supreme Court agreed to decide the issue for the entire nation. 5 15, the time. Oakland raiders are close to signing a oneyear extension to remain at the coliseum for the 2015 season. The owner said an agreement has been reached and its awaiting formal approval from the city, county and nfl before the team can officially sign it. A man in ontario, canada, was driving home from work when all of a sudden a tire came flying across the median, and right through his windshield. Tire fell off a car headed the other direction. The driver said all he could do was duck. He was not hurt, but the car has a broken windshield and sunroof and bent frame. So with the little fog this morning and the haze and the spare the air day, poor air quality north bay and central bay, but things will get a little better in terms of air quality tuesday and wednesday. The winds are going to pick up. But unfortunately the rain winds are going to pick up is not a cold front its strong High Pressure building in and that will mix things out a little bit. Even though High Pressure is associated that stagnate air. This will allow for more dry days. For january we are looking at the 14th spare the air day the 20th of the season. And, boy january not only going down perhaps in history for this but also for no rainfall. It looks like we are going to stay dry right on through the weekend with a possibility of a few showers in the north bay. Thats it. After that, it could go down as no rainfall for the entire month. As you mentioned its really about the hazy conditions and the lack of wind thats allowing for the poor air quality and the stubborn ridge of High Pressure. Good morning fairfield. A quarter mile visibility for you. That the coolest spot. Temperatures are certainly milder this morning by about 10 degrees 11 degrees. Visibility not such an issue out by concord and livermore but we have fog from Santa Rosa Napa and also up through petaluma the coast. It is mild and we are looking at the clouds hanging on for much of the day. So areas of fog and drizzle and we will see more sunshine south and on the peninsula and maybe a few showers like we saw yesterday up toward santa rosa. We have new information on the terrible shooting 8 days ago in San Franciscos western addition. Four people were shot execution style while they sat in their car. The killers are still at large but abc7 news Learned Police have made an important discovery. Heres vic lee. The car was rented from the hertz office here on main street in walnut creek friday night before the massacre. The four victims, three identified members of a gang, were shot at close range in their parked stolen car on laguna and page street. Their executeners likely used four guns and took off before police arrived. Source tell us the suspects car was returned to hertz early this week. San Francisco Police later took possession of it. They asked hertz to call them if the person who rented the car came back. On wednesday morning a possible sighting of some of the suspects resulted in the search of a neighborhood in walnut creek. Two men and a women came to the heartsome asking for another rental. An employ notified San Francisco police that he thought one of them was the person they were looking for. At the request of San Francisco, Walnut Creek Police using k9s respond while come side officials were on their way. One fled on foot as officers arrived, lead to go the search of the area. Two nearby schools were locked down. Police found him hiding in a garbage bin near contra costa school. They later released the two men and the female companion. Official reason for the release is it was a case of mistaken identity. But there may be more to it. We learned investigators have developed names of people they are looking for. Happening today, there will be a Memorial Service to remember the victims of violence throughout the bay area. The archdiocese of San Francisco will conduct an interface Memorial Service and prayer walk for victims and their family. It gets underway at 10 00 at Saint Anthonys catholic search. It will be followed by an interfaith Memorial Church at Mission Dolores church at noon. 5 33 the time. A Community Meeting today over the Police Departments proposal to use unmanned drones. Critics have voiced privacy concerns but police say the drone would be used in emergency situations such as active shooters and hostage scenarios. New this morning, after several weeks of work, bay bridge crews are finishing up repairs on the western span. Last night crews continued work to replace concrete damaged by expansion giants of that deteriorated. Expansion giants allow the bridge to expand and contract with temperatures and movement. Repairs began in november after cracks were discovered in the upper deck. The newest expansion giants are state of the art units made of silicon. They are expected to hold up for decades. What this will do with the new expansion giants in there, this will make it we dont have emergency closer for a good, long time. Late last year, early last year we had an emergency closer right around here of this upper deck. The concrete had cracked badly. And there was actually a hole there. The original expansion giants were installed nearly 80 years ago. Its been a tribute to the late Martin Luther king, jr. For decades, the annual freedom train from san jose to San Francisco but the tradition will come to an end this holiday weekend. For more than 30 years its been the local journey connected with dr. We will get a ridge of High Pressure but with that the breezy winds should allow for bernier visibility tuesday and wednesday. But each and every morning we will start out with some patchy fog. It traps usually the coldest air at the consider face but with the moisture in the vicinity and the cold front in the vicinity, the dewpoints are up and we are starting out milder. So after that it looks like the skies will clear out and the High Pressure ridge taking over. Theres the first weak system. Some sprinkles and a little measurable rain up by santa rosa. Now weve got this narrow ridge of High Pressure but notice another cold front will be grazing the pacific northwest. And the tail end of it pushing into Northern California. This will linger the cloud cover into tomorrow and we will look for maybe some showers up by chico and in the north bay. Midand upper 70s.
