Walnut creek, Pleasant Hill and concord, you can see right up there, heading up towards pittsburg, thats where some of our downpours are right now and you can see that line stretches all the way back to about redwood city and thats one of the last downpours. Those slick roads causings issues already. Those water logged roads are causing issues, they are in terrible shape and 580 has had all kinds of pothole problems so weve got them again this morning. Westbound 580 just past north flynn road, the two right lanes closed for a major pothole repairs, two left lanes are open and boy this could likely be a longterm situation. Weve got about six vehicles that have flat tires on the shoulder because that was such major pothole and we saw that a couple weeks ago where the rebar was exposed so havent got an look at it yet but as soon as i find out, ill let you know. No delays westbound 4, or southbound 101, next at traffic update coming up. As we feared, the hours of rain we received led to flooding throughout the bay area. Including the south bay and Los Gatos Creek. Abc7 News Reporter lonni rivera is live to show us the impact. Reporter the rains that stopped but boy is it chilly and damp and heres a look at the Los Gatos Creek. You can see fastmoving current this morning from the storm, which dumped so much water into this creek. Well heres a look at all that water. So much of it spilled over the los gatos trail overnight. And then san jose, coyote creek flooded, the south bay Mobile Home Park. Fire crews pumped water near kims front door. I heard that it still could have a chance, the creek could overflow this way and were on alert, i think, until thursday. So we thought wed get a few things together just in case. Reporter drivers dealt with closed lanes on highway 280. Those lanes were underwater. The situation slowed traffic to a crawl. Los gatos creek moving fast, deep and lots of water, and it flooded the trail behind us. Were live here in los gatos, lonni rivera, abc7 news. Check out this new video this morning. What youre looking at is the first floor of a parking garage at san joses international airplane. This is near term flal a. That is terrible. Crews are working to remove all that water. We are making calls to get an update on when theyre going to wrap up and if they find any serious damage there. This massive tree came crashing down into two homes in alamo. This is near danville road. The tree toppled just before 9 00 last night. As strong winds began to whip up there. One family escaped. It is not clear if anyone was in the second house at the time. No injuries reported, but both houses did sustain some damage. What would you do if a tree landed on your house . Yikes. One petaluma homeowner is taking it all in stride. Bridget says these arent the Home Improvements she had in mind when she moved into her home on wilson avenue. She says she was sleeping saturday night when he dogs kept barking all night long before that tree came down. It was like a heavy truck going down the street. I thank god i wasnt injured and its only a house. Its only a house. Everybody told me i have to downsize. What a way to do it. Her attitude is incredible. I need that woman in my life. I know. Because that zen is not what i would be facing if i saw this in my house. Good for her. She says her sons truck took the brunt of the trees fall. In marin county, flooding is not the issue so much. It is the mudslides. Take a look at this slide just outside of san rafael. It closed part of highland avenue, its a small road universitied by residents there. A yums tree at the top of the hill caused concern for road crews who removed it. Then near tiburon, crews cleared another mudslide that spilled into the road. With the holiday yesterday, many people were off the roads, thank goodness, and that made cleanup a lot easier. Storm damage has forced caltrans to shut down both directions of highway 1 in davenport. Caltrans says downed trees and wires as well as mudslides near swanton road are the cause of that closure. Drivers are now supposed to use highway 17 as a detour. The chp says a rock slide has closed southbound highway 17. Caltrans is reinspecting the Pfeiffer Canyon bridge in Monterey County tie. Cre crews shut it down a week ago. Because of all those cracks you can see there, its just south of big sur along highway 1. Caltrans says its moving because of mudslides under the bridge. They dont expect to find it safe enough to open today. Look at these crashing waves. Pacifica also dealing with its share of storm damage. Officials shut down the pier and it will not reopen until the waves die down a bit. Heres abc7 News Reporter lilian kim. Reporter pacifica pier has been closed due to high surf. People when live in the area have seen high waves over the years but they find tonights conditions. We came down together to see the waves. Pretty exciting to see how big the waves can get and see them crashing against the rocks. Its pretty crazy. Little bit more would be fun when people start falling over. Reporter farther inland, the storm created trouble on the freeways. Several vehicles collided on interstate 280 in south San Francisco. No apparent injuries but the collision caused quite a backup. Farther down the peninsula, it was backed up debris that brought out crews to east palo alto. The fast flowing San Francisco creek is bringing logs and branches downstream. This heavy equipment has been operating all day, removing the debris one pile at a time. Put some racks to keep the debris from getting stuck underneath the bridge, so every time it rains, we got to be out here cleaning the racks. And that was lilian kim reporting. Check this out. In oakland, one person died after their car caught fire last night. You can see the scene around 10 30. Firefighters tried pulling the victim out, but it was too late. Were look into what may have started the fire. Caltrain homiping youre gog to help it with its triification project. The Trump Administration put the brakes on millions of dollars in federal funding. Caltrain started an online petition to force a response from the white house. To do that, the agency needs to get 100,000 signatures by march 20. So far, they only have 827. We also have a major problem on the roads here this morning. Westbound 580, weve got pothole problems again. So, not good news here for Central Valley drivers. Two right lanes down due to major potholes, about six vehicles off on the side, flat tires, the rims are damaged there so just the two left lanes are open and boy, the drive time really getting nasty here, 1 hour 20 minutes at this point. Westbound 580, tracy to dublin. Westbound 4 still looking okay as is southbound 101 if youre coming from the north bay. Also adding to the problems out of the Central Valley, no ace rail today. They canceled that about 30 minutes ago and that is due to weather related issues so those tracks are in bad shape too. Were starting to fill in at the bay bridge toll plaza. We dont have any metering lights yet but we do have the cash lanes probably stacking up just a little bit there. And youre still okay as far as those metering lights are concerned until about 5 30 this morning. Well take a look at a few Flooding Issues as well coming up. Lets start with some good news. Heading north on 680, that hillside in several areas has been giving away, keep an eye if youre in the slow lane all the way to the east. You never know if that things going to let go and go across the entire median or not the median but the shoulder and into the road, all right . Heres a look at whats going on. San mateo bridge, dumbarton bridge, 237 all getting standing water from them. Now if youre stepping out dress for temperatures about 52 do 54 degrees here in San Francisco. I think its a really tough area of road thats really just in bad shape from all the rain that weve gotten so the two right lanes are down, the two left lanes are open. We did talk to chp a few minutes ago. They said caltrans arriving any minute to make repairs and they could not give us an estimate on how long these two right lanes will be blocked. Look at this backup. Spilling over on to 205, 11 Miles Per Hour, 5 miles an hour, not going to be fun. On top of that, we dont have any ace rail service today. Trouble this morning too. 20minute delay due to an equipment problem on a dream between west oakland and a embarcadero and we had a bapt train going eastbound, got stuck in the transbay tube, theyre taking that back to embarcadero station and they are attempting to make repairs there so that is in the sfo Millbrae Daly city and east bay directions. Were at 14. 6 so you can see that whole area, 84 from fremont back through the sunol grade, mission road, 680, all of those areas, the closer you are to the creek, the more likely youre going to have flooding. Look at all this moderate downpour from the sunol grade down towards mission road there. Weve also got one moving through hayward, five canyons parkway there and heading towards hayward boulevard, some more ponding is going to develop there just south of 280. Theres a look at walnut creek this morning. 680 is definitely wet. Showers and winds will taper as we head into the afternoon hours. Chilly mornings, dry afternoons, wednesday, thursday, and friday but look what we get in return, a wet and cool pattern for saturday, sunday, monday. Todays storm pulled back considerably from yesterday. Just a 1 and most of it is this morning. You can see some of the downpours from 6 00 through 9 00 and then about 10 to 11 00, theres a couple more in the Higher Elevations on either side of the Santa Clara Valley and then scattered showers. As you can see early afternoon into the evening hours and during the overnight hours and with the clouds opening and that cooler mass coming in, thats why were going to have cooler nights on the way. If were lucky, well get another 1 10 to 1 3 inch of rain. If you get caught, my storm concerns are very highly localized to where these downpours are. So urban the creek flooding, trees down, moderate concern, very low concern for Power Outages and river flooding. Look at that, three days without steady rain. Wednesday, thursday, and friday. Rain returns saturday for oscar sunday and into the new week monday. Coyotes have been spotted here in the bay area. One of our last downpours is moving through our neighborhoods right now and that is number two, tracking storms once again from the inland east bay through the sunol grade ad just south of the san mateo bridge all the way down to gilroy, probably have about one more downpour out of the storm and then the showers will start to scatter this oorch a. Number three, Los Gatos Creek has completely overtaken los gatos trail. Look at all that water there and its not the only one overflowing. In san jose, coyote creek has flooded this hoebl home park. Number four, half a dozen people had to be ask youed from their cars and flooding buildings last night. Two nearby creeks spilled over into that area. Number five, from the live desk, four american tourists on a golfing vacation were killed in a plane crash in australia and two of them are from texas. The other two have not been identified yet. The focus this morning, high winds and that means a dangerous drive across our bridges. Some of that flooding has really been incredible. The aftermath. The airport even flooding. San jose, one of the garages there. Its really crazy. My drive home was like driving through a river the whole 35 miles to the east bay. Same thing for my wife driving from lifr more. She said it was like driving in a river the whole way home yesterday and now weve got flooding rains moving through the sunol grade where weve got that Flood Warning for Alameda Creek so got to be careful there on 834 and 680. In fact, when that downpour came through San Francisco, left us about 1 4 inch of rain and some ponding on the roads and this is going to be one of the last pushes of some downpours as you look at your 12hour day planner. Already seeing the moon start to come out behind that, signifying, grab the sunglasses today but you may need the umbrella for those scattered to isolated showers from noon to 4 00 and then just isolated showers at 7 00. But even if theyre scattered, theyre out there bothering somebody. Two major issues to talk about. Major Traffic Alert out of the Central Valley. Westbound 580, north flynn road, two right lanes are closed, two left lanes are open due to pothole repair. 3 miles an hour, 6 miles an hour on 205, expect an extremely long delay out of the Central Valley today. Also we have an update on our b. A. R. T. Situation, that disabled train has been removed from the transbay tube but weve got a major delay lingering and that is between west oakland and embarcadero between sfo, millbrae, daly city, and east bay directions could be at least 30 minutes delay there. So well talk about those problems coming up. People had to be pulled from their cars in livermore in rapidly rising water. In fact, one battalion chief told us he had never seen anything like it. Abc7 News ReporterAmy Hollyfield is live with the aftermath. Reporter hi, yes, were getting some more rain. Here we go again. Look what was left behind here last night. Abandoned, this car, right in the middle of Collier Canyon road and its surrounded by mud and debris. But at least the water is gone. Heres what it looked like during the storm, this area around the college in livermore, flooded, catching people by surprise. They say the water came up very fast and suddenly. Firefighters has to rescue nine people, seven from flooded cars, two from office buildings. They say the water was chest high in some spots. And yes, that fire battalion chief on the scene said he had never seen anything like it before. They were surprised. They drove through and got stuck and yeah. Reporter in general, the recommendation is dont . Turn yep. Turn around dont drown. Reporter there are two creeks nearby. The early conclusion is that a culvert must be blocked with debris, so the creeks overflowed and flooded this area. No one was hurt and the water is now gone, but the mess is still here to greet people this morning. Theyre going to have quite a cleanup to do here in livermore. Amy hollyfield, abc7 news. Incredible video, thank you. One man in los gatos is dealing with this mess this morning. He says he ed a tree leaning outside of his house a few weeks ago and started getting nervous with the wind and the rain yesterday. He told his son to get out of his bedroom. He opened the window and looked outside and the tree fell right towards them. Luckily, no one was hurt. People living in a Mobile Home Park along rain swollen coyote creek in san jose are ready to get out of fl any minute. The creek is being overwhelmed by water coming out of anderson reservoir. The trailer park in oakland road is right next to the creek. These photos from the San Jose Fire Department show water flooding a section of that neighborhood. Firefighters are trying to prevent evacuations by pumping water out of the lot. Palameras road is closed this morning and you can see the reason why. Rocks sliding down the hillside and blocking lanes. This is the worst ive seen so far. Ive only lived here for four years and it is the worst ive seen so far. The one we had on january 10 was bad and this has topped it. The road is closed now between palo verde road and Castro Valley and niles canyon road in fremont. Crews are working to shore up the hillside. No estimate on when the section of road would reopen. And hundreds of people remain under a mandatory Evacuation Order this morning because of a levee break. 500 residents who live south of highway 120 near manteca along the river have now been evacuated. You can see that affected area in freen on your screen. The concern is more water is headed twort manteca due to releases at the don pedro reservoir. Evacuations began after someone noticed a sinkhole in the levee yesterday arch. Firefighters and farmers used rocks and sand to reinforce the weak spot in the levee. Officials are now monitoring that situation closely. Mandatory evacuation is going to stay in place until we have daylight and we can get a better sight on where were at. And we have more water coming in, obviously, so thats of great concern as well. That temporary patch is going to be put to the test this afternoon when the heaviest water flow is expected. The water being released from the reservoir is expected to flood low lying areas south of manteca and push the river above flood stage. Don pedro lake is within a few feet of capacity now. It is the first second time this has happened. The first time the flood gates have been opened in 20 years. Officials expect to continue to release water for several days. A chp officer is recovering this morning after a driver crashed into his patrol car in los altos. The driver died at the hospital last night. It happened just after 7 00 on interstate 280. The officer was waiting for a tow truck for a car stuck in the mud. The driver lost control, hit the back of that patrol car, and the officer was not seriously hurt. The investigation shut down all but one lane of 280 for nearly six hours. Traffic is moving on highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains. Thats not an official crew. Thats just a group of strangers. They saw this tree blocking the highway at sim mitt road yesterday. They did not want to wait around so that guy had a chain saw. He cut the trunk into enormous pieces and others helped drag away the debris. In all, it took them about an hour and a half to clear both directions. We do still have about 20,000 people without power all across the bay area and right now, the biggest problem still in the south bay with those about 14,000 outages there. Although i do have an update here. This is the area i showed you earlier this morning between sunnyvale and mountain view, this particular community in red here and probably the hardest hit. We have about 5600 outages in this spot alone here. If i click on the information that we have new information that field crews were able to spot a downed power line in that area, so thats whats causing troubles there. I will be keeping an eye on the map for you throughout the morning, let you know if things change, if they get worse on better. Right now, its kind of the same as we checked about an hour ago. A Fairfield High School is going to hold an informational meeting for the parents and community after a possible exposure to tuberculosis. Armijo high sent a letter to parents last week letting parents know somebody tested positive for the infectious bacteria. Officials have not said who that is, not even whether its a student or a faculty member. Tonights meeting at 6 30 at the high school gym. A man who killed a Police Officer in Southern California is now suspected of killing his own cousin just hours before. Officer kei responding to a call. Other officers responding to the scene shot the man when he pointed a gun at them. That man survived. Hundreds gathered for an impromptu vigil to honor the 27year veteran last night. Officer boyer was close to retirement. We also know the other wounded officer is expected to survive. Weve got pothole problems again this morning and that is making for a really tough commute out of the tracy area and on top of that, you cant take ace rail for an alternate. That is not running today due to wealthrelated issues. Those tracks in bad shape. The two right lanes blocked. No estimate on when this repair work will wrap up. The conservative republican conference cpac dropped yiannopoulos as a keynote speaker yesterday and publishing giant simon and schuster canceled his upcoming book deal.
