The bodies of two people were found inside the home. This morning the task force is expected to join the medical examiners investigation which is on embarcadero road. Firefighters discovered the bodies inside the home as they were putting out a onealarm fire last night. Abc News Reporter ama daetz as the story. Palo alto fire got home to find the home on embarcadero home fully engulfed. Two bodies were found inside. The investigation into the deaths will be handled by the police, fire and Santa Clara County task force. Anytime theres a fatality at the fire scene, we will put up a crime scene until we are able to determine what happened, if the fire is criminal in nature or not. It is a routine investigatory step. It happens at every fire when we discover a body. A neighbor said a man and caretaker lived in that home. Johnny was a vietnam war vet. Hes been pretty sick. I havent seen him for a while. Firefighters had trouble putting out the fire because there were a lot of items inside the homelike newspapers and boxes. We had a hard time kind of getting in and where we needed to go. The home was apparently in fairly Poor Condition before the fire began so the fire just enhanced it and made it worse. The investigation will really get underway when there is daylight to help them. Ama daetz, abc7 news. In walnut creek officials are investigating the cause of a fatal house fire. Contra costa county fire officials said flames were spotted coming from the home around 9 45 last night. Firefighters arrived to find the second floor burning and tried to rescue the victim trapped on the second floor, but the fire was too intense. The name was not been released. San jose said an arsonist may be at work inside their city. Right now they are battling a house fire. That is right in the area where a string of fires have been set since wednesday. We are talking about seven other suspicious fires of that broken out over the past few days within about a twomile radius. Sky 7hd was over the neighborhood of 24th and East San Antonio streets yesterday morning after three fires broke out in a span of just an hour. One area homeowner said shes concerned about the possible arsonist targeting the neighborhood. I didnt realize it was going on around the whole neighborhood and i am very worried about my renters. Residents are being urged to be vigilant. The wreckage of a plane carrying five people, including a Silicon Valley tech executive, has been found in idaho six weeks after it disappeared from radar. There were no survivors. 51yearold dale smith was piloting the plane when it was last seen on december 1st. The family was heading from oregon to montana when smith reported engine trouble about 150 miles northeast of boise. Authorities suspended the search in midnovember, but family and friends continued with a private search. In a Facebook Post his wife, janice, thanks searchers and said the plane was found just before the search had to wrap up for the foreseeable future. A storm is moving into the area so the plane will not be recovered until the weather clears. There are now 11 deaths from the flu. Thats in the bay area. As the virus spreads, more people are scrambling to get a flu shot and right now that can be a challenge. Walgreens and Kaiser Permanente both report being short on shots, but only temporarily. At the direct urgent care clinic in berkeley they are down to their last vial. Theres some left, but its low. People are looking to get flu shots. We had a bet of a run on it. We do have some available, but we will probably run out soon and have to order more. Healthcare providers across the bay area are seeing a surge of people looking for shots after a continued reports of deaths. Almeda county Health Officials have confirmed two more fatalities, and setting a dangerous pace for the flu season. It determines the baseline flu and the epidemic threshold, and looks like we are heading above our average and similar to last year. The good news is there is plenty of vaccine available this year, so Health Officials are hoping to head off further infections by encouraging people to get vaccinated. There are a lot of different kinds of vaccines whether you are two years old or 50 years of age, or people can get a spray in their nose. Its easy and safe. Even the Oakland Diocese are encouraging people to reach out to their parishioners this weekend. We are discussing how to respect each others space and not reach out with a handshake or hug. One bay area victim is a young man, just 23 years old. Mattie walker posted this picture of himself after christmas. He was sick for two weeks and died on wednesday. Family and friends say walker was a great guy and they are still in shock over his death. He was young. He was healthy. This is why its such a shock. He went into the hospital and it was all good and then he came out and then he went back in again and all of a sudden everything went bad within a day. His father tells abc7 news that his son did not get a flu shot this year. He was one of ten severe flu cases in Sonoma County this season. So far hes the only fatality. State Health Officials confirm the flu is trending up earlier than usual this year and its spreading rapidly. Heres a map of what the activities around the country looked like two weeks ago and here is what is looks like now. California is highlighted in red, indicating widespread flu activity throughout the state. Flu season typically peaks in february or march, but Health Officials say they are already noticing it. People get sick pretty quickly and people having reported to actually go from being healthy to having the flu to being in the hospital within two days. The majority of those who have died from the flu had the h1n1 strain. All the victims were under 65 and none of them were children. The Alameda County bomb squad was called out to detonate bombs found during a probation search. A fire in berkeley has left 8 residents and a pet without place to stay. Flames were reported before 2 30 yesterday average in a twostory business made up of a business and apartments. One resident ran around warning everyone of the danger. I ran back upstairs and made sure people were getting out of the building and made sure all the windows and doors were shut so it didnt go through any of the buildings and eliminate the smoke damage or the spread of the fire. The vice mayor claims the National Park service wants to buy the build to go make it part of the historic kaiser shipyard. Many officials thought it was vacant. On december 31st richmonds fire marshal was in the neighborhood and stopped by to take a look. He told me what should have been a 15minute visit turned into a twohour eyeopening inspection. About 70 of the building had no sheetrock and sheetrock is for stopping the spread of fire. There were no fire blocks. Insulation, there was no heat. There was cook appliances in the hall which. He said all fire exits were chained and caged. The fire marshall placed a stop work placard outside the building because construction was also going on inside without any kind of city permit. We were not allowed inside the building to see for ourselves, but we did find the leaders of the mosque leaving city hall after a meeting with the city manager. It hurts me to have to remove someone from their place of worship, but i know in the end that they are going to they are going to be alive. Sometime early next week the fire marshal will order them to close. But the vice mayor wants to avoid that. He has put the matter of the mosque on the City Councils agenda for this tuesday. Library officials have faced a range of complaints in recent months including assault, drug use, public exposure and vandalism. There is a zero tolerance at the library. The 16yearold Richard Thomas has been charged with assault for the november attack. Yesterday the judge delayed the decision until next week on whether to move the case to juvenile court. Police say thomas set sashas clothing on fire while he slept on a transit bus. Sasha was wearing a skirt, but doesnt identify as gay or straight. He told a Police Officer he was homofoe bike he has emphasized that he is not homophobic, and i cant imagine the context in which he would have said something about that. The affected models include 2014 chevy silverados and gmc fullsize trucks.
