the accident happened in mclaren park at around 9:00 last night. as you can see it was very dark at the scene. this is near sunnidale and persia. investigators say the bicyclist was a man in his 20s who apparently rode into a roadway from a trail. police are trying to determine if the bicyclist rode into the cruiser or if the car hit the bicyclist. authorities say the driver will undergo toxicology tests. protesters marched through oakland last night calling for the end to new rules regarding protests. nearly 100 people walked through downtown and then sat and blocked west grand and telegraph. that intersection reopened around 11:00 last night. the marchers were calling to an end to a policy that limits nighttime demonstrations. bold and clever action by a bus driver may have saved a kidnapped 3-year-old boy as allen wong tells us that action helped police nab the suspect just before he and the victim boarded a b.a.r.t. train. >> reporter: the bus driver's a hero. absolute hero. >> reporter: when the alert came out that a 3-year-old boy had been abducted from the milpitas library, a bus driver thought a passenger with a crying boy fit the description so he pulled over and pretended to look for a lost backpack. >> what i'm really trying to do is get up without him knowing to look at the little boy so sure enough i see the plaid shorts and red shoes. that's what really stuck out in me mind. >> reporter: watson quickly radioed police. he said the man now identified as 23-year-old alfonso david edington of pittsburg began to get off with the boy at the fremont b.a.r.t. station but police were waiting. >> i opened my door once slowly giving him time to get prepped and ready to go and opened up door two the gentleman walks out. calm, cool, collected as could be and they take him down on the spot. >> there was an emotional reunion with the boy and his parents at police headquarters that's when it began to sink in. >> and then that's when my own kids came to mind and i just broke down. i couldn't even hold myself. i had to go inside the bus and just reflect. >> reporter: police say the suspect had no connections to the family and now they want to know his intentions when he snatched the boy from the children's section of the library. in mill peet tamilpitas, allen wong. san mateo police are looking for a man who robbed a woman in her driveway. police say he ran up to the victim with a gun and demanded money and jewelry. the woman was not injured during the incident. the suspect was able to take off on foot and he's identified as a black male in his mid-30s 61 fv 200 pounds with a slim build and he was wearing a black hoodie. 8:03 is the time. the university of san francisco is tackling the national problem of sexual assault on campus by becoming the first in the nation to try a new online reporting system for victims. the website was designed with input from sexual assault survivors survivors. we've got more. >> reporter: for someone who hack sexually assaulted reporting it to police can feel like an impossible and traumatizing next step. >> so you need to do something about it that takes an amount of conviction and certainty in your memory and what happened to you. >> reporter: to ease the process the university of san francisco is piloting an online option. it allows a victim to privately write up an account of what happened. >> it asks trauma-informed questions along the way. and even when they answer a question, they can click on a button that says why are we asking this question. >> reporter: the student can then choose to just save the file or send it to the university. >> it is a touchy subject, so for someone to be able to do it maybe enone mussily or ammon us inially is probably a good option. >> reporter: the site has a matching system if the victim knows their attacker. >> they can put an identifying telephone number or name or e-mail account into the system and if it's matched by somebody else, then it automatically goes to the university and we can stop repeat offenders. >> reporter: the person making the report wouldn't know there was a match but the match would launch an investigation. in san francisco abc 7 news. a san jose dental office employee is accused of cashing more than $300,000 in forged dental reimbursement checks with the hemlp of two san jose church workers. investigators say 56-year-old nadine marcias cashed the majority of the checks at a bingo hall. they say two workers took a cut and gave the rest of the money back who agreed to spend some of the money playing bingo. >> all they needed to do was make the books balance and because she was spending money at the bingo hall it balanced and it didn't get caught because it's a cash business. >> prosecutors say the dentist finally noticed some checks wrbt coming through and reported it to police. excitement over the nba finals is spreading throughout the bay area. in fact, we're finding fans in places you might not expect. we've got the story. >> reporter: the warriors are getting lots of love from the bay area. just about everywhere you look warriors blue and gold is flying high on flags and banners. we even noticed a certain muni station agent getting in on the fun. >> go warriors! >> reporter: for those looking forward to watching game two at their favorite pub you may want to keep an eye out for the san francisco brewing company's newest beer. >> we do seasonal beers throughout the year but this one i wanted to commemorate to, you know, the warriors and their run and hopefully an nba championship. >> reporter: the warriors are also getting a salute from some of the bay area's most talented artists. the lead percussionist for the san francisco orchestra got in on the fun. jacob used to play for the cleveland orchestra but now he's a hardcore warriors fan and during the game a twitter exchange erupted between the two orchestras. at san francisco symphony beethoven famously said cavs in five. really? you must have been getting a hot dog during that second period. >> instead of doing a bet between the two teams or the two orchestras we said, hey, let's just have fun on twitter. >> reporter: nate borg controls the san francisco symphony twitter handle and he's hoping for even more banter during game two. the warriors took a few minutes off from practice and the nba finals to bring some smiles to some bay area kids. we were at the boys and girls club in east oakland as some of basketball's biggest names brought excitement to the neighborhood and unveiled the new nba cares live and play zone. >> you are the absolute best in the nba and we couldn't have gotten here without you guys. >> the team took some time to play with the kids and even losing a round or two of ping-pong. they also brought along the coveted larry o'brien championship trophy. we're celebrating the warriors and the best fans in basketball, during the finals we'll shawrre your biden is mourning the death of his oldest son during a funeral in delaware. we're taking a live look at wilmington, delaware, where the funeral for beau biden is underway. president obama is there for the full catholic mass. former secretary of state hillary rodham clinton as well as former president bill clinton are also attending. beau biden died last week at the age of 46 to brain cancer. in a statement joe biden remembered his son as, quote the finest man any of us have ever known. turning now to some other national stories. the fbi has arrested an armed robber who has been targeting bay area banks for the past three months. abc 7 news has learned it took a while to get the clean cut bandit because of an important oversight that could have resulted in his capture much earlier. we have the story you'll only see on abc 7 news. >> reporter: the clean cut bandit that's what the fbi called darrious gilbert when they first sent out a bulletin. these were some of the images of him. between march and the beginning of this month the fbi figures gilbert robbed at least nine banks, six in san francisco, one in antioch one in elk grove and the ninth in san rafael. the fbi said the bandit became more daring and dangerous. >> he first brandished a knife in the earlier robberies and then the later robberies he displayed a hand gun. >> reporter: reliable sources tell us the 48-year-old was completing his term at a federal prison when he was transported to a halfway house here in the tender tender tender tenderloin. the fbi and local police had no idea who he was. abc 7 news has learned that's because federal authorities somehow failed to issue an arrest warrant after he bolted from the halfway house. gilbert was even arrested by oakland police on a gun charge. but since there was no warrant he was allowed to bail out. sources say the bank robberies continued with another gun. at some point the fbi was able to identify him and an all-out search ended in los angeles. >> the l.a. division was able to pinpoint the suspect's location at a hotel in the bel air area. >> reporter: the fbis is the intense search for this bank robbery was a top priority because he struck so many times and he used a gun. they say that local police played a crucial role in his capture. vic lee, abc 7 news. more information this morning on a freak accident at the oakland a's game against boston. a woman suffered life threatening injuries after an oakland player's bat was shattered and went into the stands. >> broken-bat grounder towards pedroia. >> brett laurie's bat shattered in the second inning. part of it struck the woman in the head and the game was stopped for several minutes while paramedics treated her. she was then rushed to a hospital. american pharaoh will attempt today to win the belmont stakes and become the first triple crown winner since affirmed in 1978. the kentucky derby and preakness winner looked fresh and ready to his morning run yesterday but was held to an easy lap around the 1 1/2 oval. he faces several rivals in his bid to become the 12th triple crown winner. it may not happen soon but one thing is for sure robots that act just like people are coming and a government sponsored competition that continues today is looking for machines that move the most like man. reporter sid garcia from our sister station in los angeles has the story. >> reporter: the crowd goes wild over what looks like a simple maneuver. this is where rob boughtotics is today. teams are here at the pomona fairgrounds for what is being called the olympic games of robotics. the defense department organized this first of its kind competition. the teams are developing computer software that will someday have these robots act and think like you and me. >> the challenge is figuring out what exactly our brains are doing when they're doing these things, you know, pushing on stuff and moving stuff around and picking things up without falling over. >> reporter: the eight tasks the robots are required to do include driving a car and turning off a valve. the defense department hopes someday soon robots will be used to go into dangerous areas such as a collapsed building looking for survivors. >> robots today are very very, very far from what humans can do and so what you'll see here is even the robots that look like they're able to do some of these tasks they're being remotely controlled by humans. they have very little capability by themselves so we're still at the very early stages of this robot revolution. >> reporter: next to the competition there's an inner active expo. if you can work a video game console you can play with the latest in robotic technology. >> the inch worm to see how it moves so from animals you can see it and change it into machines. >> reporter: the robots competition is the big draw and there's a lot on the line. along with the bragging rights there's a pretty big first prize. it's $2 million for the top team here. reporting from the pomona fairground sid garcia, abc 7 news. ♪ touching on california's drought yesterday the governor told a group of water managers that the bay area's doing a good jock of meeting job of meeting conservation goals. he said the strategy appears to be working and he's even doing his part. >> well, i didn't take a shower this morning. >> all kidding aside the governor is going to each region to preach conservation. he's threatening to final cities $10,000 a day if they don't meet state mandated water reductions some as high as 40% that took effect on june 1st. many are trying to save water during the historic drought even if that means turning the lawn brown we learn how some are going green without using the sprinkler. >> reporter: the grass is always greener at kelly's house, even during the drought. >> so i left one day with a brown lawn and came home to a green lawn. >> reporter: kelly's a new homeowner. her lawn was on its last blade. not anymore. neighbors think she's a water waster. >> and then i tell them i just painted it. >> reporter: what do they say? >> what? >> reporter: it might be the newest trend during the drought. lawn painting. schaffer's new company brown lawns green has been busy across the bay area. this green application lasts about three months but he says don't call it paint. >> we use a nontoxic colorant. you use some make-up to hide the drought. people getting clever trying to cover up their grass. >> yes. certainly. we do have a warm-up in the north bay today in novato in particular because it has been awfully cool there but still it's gray. in fact, we have low clouds hugging the shoreline. and some misty drizzle at the coast. it will be a cool day there so the wide range of temperatures we get situated with that today. and it just spreads tomorrow into monday even tuesday. a summerlike pattern ahead. live doppler 7 hd shows the low clouds and fog. we have an intense hurricane this is blanca it continues to intensify. it's a category 4 with winds of about 130 miles an hour. gusting to 160. it's going to weaken, though, which is the good news before it hits baja california. so you notice by sunday there it goes spreading anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of rain. isolated spots of 15 inches of rain are possible. but it will continue that northwestward track weakening in the cooler waters before it makes landfall, for mt. tam the marine layer intact. 59 in oakland. 55, san francisco. got sunshine around sfo in the south bay as well, san carlos 57. half moon bay, boy, it's been gray. don't count on any sun. speaking of that, look at the dampness on the lens here from the boardwalk, but hey, folks still out hanging out at the beach 61 with the sun in concord. livermore still a few clouds for you at 63 and the delta southwest flow keeping fairfield at 60 with sunny skies and this is where we have the cooler weather, the clouds, and some of that stubborn fog. from our east bay hills camera a pretty shot with you with that marine layer beginning to evaporate in the highest elevations so fog, claudes drizzle for some early on and then mild to warm today. a hot couple of days for you starting tomorrow inland. lasting and peaking into monday. not much change on tuesday. the rest of us well, we'll warm a little bit, but at the coast ill will stay cool. the warmest day will be monday there from about stinlson sontinson and the san mateo coast. the low continues to exit. as it does high pressure sits offshore. it's not going to build in totally and give us an offshore flow. it's going to build in just moderately and as it does it will tap some of these thunderstorms tomorrow. today will be the active day in the sierra nevada and tomorrow much quieter but the heat will continue for much of california in the days ahead and even the bay area getting just a little piece of that. so, in the south bay 76 santa clara, 78 los gatos and peninsula numbers mid and upper 70s. and clouds in the sunset. 63 downtown. up in the north bay here's your warm-up from mid-70s to mid-80s through cloverdale. near east bay warmer for you as well with afternoon sun in hayward. 75 in fremont. and over into the east bay we had some 80s yesterday that continues today. 82 in pleasanton with 83 in blitz pittsburg. and less fog from the east bayshore line and even the we're glad to have you with us. parts of the bay area waking up to fog this morning, but we've got some changes on the way. we've got the first look at the forecast. hi lisa. >> good morning to you. from this shot it looks like the same old, same old. from the golden gate bridge the marine is widespread and mist and drizzle at the coast. temperatures are warmest where the sun has been shining we've had a few peaks at the airport. 55 in half moon bay. and we will be looking for a bit of a warm-up east of the caldecot tunnel. look at the temperature profile, the 80s where the reds are in the valley, but then they're spreading into our east bay valleys. we saw that yesterday and if you go way north otherwise it's pretty temperate and we still have the clouds at the coast. we'll talk about the warm-up in particular in your neighborhood and how long it's going to last coming up. chris? >> lisa, thank you. 8:30 is our time. we want to take you back to delaware where the funeral joe biden's eldest son's funeral is underway. the president and the first family are attending the funeral this morning. this is taking place in the biden's family's hometown of wilmington delaware. beau biden was 46 and previously served as delaware's attorney general. he was also an iraq war veteran. he's survived by his wife and their two children hunter and natalie. 8:31 the time. in his weekly radio address this morning president obama urged edd everyone to celebrate immigrant heritage month. he said his family tree stretches back to ire land. he said we must defend our heritage by fingsxing country's broken immigration system. >> nearly two years ago democrats and republicans in the senate came together to do that they passed a commonsense bill to secure our border and get rid of backlogs and give undocumented immigrants who are already living here a pathway to citizenship if they paid a fine paid their taxes and went to the back of the line. but for nearly two years republican leaders in the house have refused to even allow a vote on it. >> the president invited everyone to share their family stories on immigration at whitehouse.gov/newamericans. the warriors want to move from oakland to san francisco's mission bay neighborhood. a study of the arena's traffic and transportation impacts was released yesterday. we've got a report and the effort to stop the arena from being built. >> reporter: given a chance we're about to make 2,300 pages of a supplemental environmental impact report as fascinating, well, how about the warriors versus the cavaliers. >> the warriors are a fantastic basketball team and we love them bup the owners are not very good at environmental planning or are they traffic planners. >> frankly, the exist edges of opposition helps basketball franchise. >> reporter: public hearings next. in san francisco, wayne friedman, abc 7 news. santa clara county residents can reduce gun violence and make cash this morning. the gun buyback event will be held at 8:00 a.m. to noon at the reid hillview airport. sheriffs deputies will be there to collect handguns and rifles and assault weapons from your car's trunk on an anonymous basis. assault weapons alone can bring up to $200. the buyback is to help spread awareness and reduce the amount of gun violence. kormellen powell offered to drop her appeal of the jury verdict against her if the venture firm paid her $2.7 million according to court papers filed yesterday. the offer came after a jury rejected claims that cliner perkins discriminated against her. klin kline r perkins declined to comment. they say dennis hastert sexually abused their loved ones, a teenage boys. >> reporter: one of the alleged victims identified. this young man steve reinbold the student manager for hastert's high school wrestling team who he called his great right-hand man. >> he damaged steve i think more than any of us will ever know. >> reporter: speaking publicly for the first time, reinbold's sister joellene revealed the dark secret of abuse when he told her he was gay. >> i asked him when was your first same-sex experience? he just looked at me and said it was with dennis hastert. and i just -- i was stunned. i said, why didn't you ever tell anybody, stevie? i mean, he was your teacher. why didn't you ever tell anybody? he just looked at me and said who is ever going to believe me in this town who is ever going to believe me. >> reporter: hastert became a kind of father figure. in a member of a group reinbold was among a handful of young men he took to the bahamas. seen in this picture of the boys and hastert relaxing. >> here was the mentor and the man who was basically his friend who was the one who was abusing him. >> reporter: steve died of aids in 1995. her sister said she confronted then congressman hastert when he showed up unexpectedly at the funeral home. >> he just stood there and stared at me and then i just continued to say, um, i want you to know that your secret didn't die in there with my brother. and i want you to remember that i'm out here and that i know. >> reporter: then two weeks ago she says the fbi showed up at her door to ask about her big brother steve and tell her dennis hastert was about to be indicted. >> there are no words to describe what it felt like to know stevie we've done it it's going to happen. we got him. >> and that was brian ross reporting. reinbold said she or her brother ever asked hastert for any money. the former speaker has not responded to requests for comment. there's much more to come up welcome back everyone. time right now is 8:46 and weatherwise yesterday was a pretty warm day across the bay area. >> at your house maybe. >> no i was breaking a sweat. i live down in san jose and i was just, like, i was wearing a jacket. oh, make it stop. >> wow, there's a couple of us who have been shivering for various reasons. the fog, the wind. today several changes bigger changes tomorrow and into monday. so, we'll look for this marine layer that right now is across the bay to become more compressed in the days ahead and that means higher pressure sitting overhead will keep the fog and the low clouds at the coast and the mist and drizzle, but then it will evaporate and we'll look for warmer days. today it will be warmer in our east bay valleys and here's a look from our east bay hills camera atop mt. diablo. we can see the fog getting chewed up here and looking at sunnier conditions down below. it has been sunny all morning long in concord. livermore had a few clouds. temperatures are in the 60s there. half moon bay it's gray 55. mist and drizzle. san jose looking at sunshine. near 60 degrees. and in the city it's gray but the airport has had a few peeks of sun and this is lake tahoe. it was active yesterday with tons of thunderstorm activity and today that will continue. it abates a bit tomorrow. 54 in petaluma and the cooler numbers where we have the fog and mist and drizzle for you. so hang on, santa rosa and petaluma, it will get brighter and warmer today. here's another shot from the beach at the boardwalk. you can see all the clouds here. it will be a cool day with 60s once again around santa cruz. fog and clouds. some drizzle and mist for some of you. mild to warm overall, though, and hot inland temperatures arrive tomorrow. they peak on monday and very little change on tuesday. there's the low that brought all of the heavy downpours into the mountains and a few of those will continue today. firing up with the afternoon sun. but that low continues to exit. had some subtropical moisture entrained with it and we could see a repeat performance next week as another hurricane brings up more moisture and perhaps spreads some showers into the valley and the mountains. but for the short term it's warmer days ahead as high pressure sits offcoast. it temporarily builds in. we're not going to see an offshore flow and a sunny warm coast but we'll see a bit of improvement here in the days ahead. here we go once again from the northern sierra into yosemite. more clouds in los angeles today at 71 drotion and we're looking at the warmth building from sacramento. 88 there. 92 in fresno. 60s on the coast in monterey. so in livermore yesterday you had 80s and once again today, mid-80s. a built above average. look what happens tomorrow. topping out around 90. 96 on monday. you haven't seen weather like this for several months but it's not going to last. we'll cool it back slightly come tuesday. but still pretty summerlike even into wednesday when you drop off into the mid-80s. 85 in antioch. 69 in oakland. look for 77 in san jose. so, yeah getting warm in parts of the bay today. 72 in vallejo and the afternoon sun hopefully for you closer to berkeley today. 63 in san francisco. cloudy. 60 half moon bay. the acuweather seven-day forecast look for 90 inland and mid-70s around the bay. the warmest day will be monday. little change on tuesday. the wide range with the microclimates in full swing and cooling off slightly wednesday and thursday. so may was awfully cool and dreary. looks like we're getting out of that pattern serena williams has overcome a midmatch lull and a third set deficit to win her third french open title. she beat out the 13th seed to get her 20th major singles trophy. also in sports some unfortunate news for the cavaliers ahead of tomorrow's game two of the nba finals. abc 7 sports director larry beal has more in this morning's sports report. >> good morning everybody. a devastated blow for the cavaliers in the nba finals with game two coming up on sunday the cavs have just lost their all-star point guard kyrie irving out with a broken kneecap. he came in hobbled by tenden night tis in his left knee and had 23 points but he knocks knees with klay thompson and would leave in agony. an mri reveals a fractured kneecap. irving out three to four months. >> i've been playing basketball for a long time and i've seen it all no matter what the circumstances is, you go out and play as hard as you can and you live with the results. >> whoever is going to play those minutes they're going to come in trying to win the game as well and impact the game so we can't assume that, you know, it's going to be a cakewalk for us to get a championship. still going to be a challenge. still going to be tough. >> the irving injury thrusts some others into a bigger role. they did play well in the previous year against the atlanta hawks. nfl news another stunning retirement from the 49ers this off-season this time it's right tackle anthony davis who is only 25 years old. the five-year nfl veteran said he wants to get his mind and body healthy. he battled several injuries last year including a concussion. davis said he might consider returning in a year or two but the immediate question is who is blocking for colin kaepernick this september. that is a maj problem. a milestone for the a's in boston oakland switch pitcher pat venditi became the first major leaguer in 20 years to throw righty and lefty in a single game. recently battling shoulder soreness and lasted only 4 two/3 and brock holt with a double to left and dustin pedroia scores for a 1-0 sox lead. and then venditi comes on in the seventh making his major league debut and allowed a hit and struck out swihart and the a.ches are down 4-2 in the ninth and fegly got it and looks like it's going to tie it up. about five feet short off the green monster. and the sox closer uehara facing mark hanna, line drive and hangs up long enough and it's caught for the final out and boston wins 4-2 snapping the a's winning streak. giants and phillies we love the phillie phanatic. giants down 3-1 and there it goes for justin maxwell and he got all of it! off of jerome williams. two-run clout fourth of the year. the giants would take the lead in the fifth, however lincecum gave up a couple of homers. oh, my that was crushed by franco. solo in the sixth. in the seventh buster posey, high deep aloha, it's heading for the forest out there. buster's ninth of the year as the giants snap their five-game losing
