Piles of rubble left behind where homes once stood, an overturned semi truck and restaurant destroyed. Just some of the scenes rescue crews are sifting through right now. Look at that. Yeah, look at that. A massive tornado touching down. Now, sure, it barreled through an open field, but it also caused a lot of destruction in places, as well. Abcs bazi kanani with the very latest for us. Reporter a search and rescue operation continues this morning in fairdale, illinois. At least one dead and seven injured after a tornado damaged every single building in the village, many of them destroyed. Abcs alex perez is there. The devastation here, its amazing to see how quickly this all happened here. A tornado, a big storm moved through here about 7 15 thursday night and created all of this damage. They say they believe it sporadically sort of hopped and jumped around a 50mile stretch of the area creating a lot of damage, particularly here in fairdale. Reporter rescuers now eager for daylight to help their efforts. With Daylight Hours to get a better accountability of all the residents that do live in that community and make sure that any potential rescues that still need to be made are, in fact, made. Oh, my gosh. Thats going right through. Reporter the devastating twister captured on cell phone video as it moved through the area thursday evening. Residents rushing to safety. Got in and got my family in the basement. But then as i watched it go behind us, it was a pretty good sized massive storm. Reporter a close call in the nearby town of rochelle. 12 people surviving in the basement of this restaurant as the tornado passed right by. We pulled in here and ran inside. The owner said, in the basement, and we went down in the basement. Reporter the powerful storms sweeping across the plains and midwest with several reported tornadoes, flooding rains and damaging hail. The regions first widespread bout of Severe Weather hitting hard. Bazi kanani, abc news, washington. Boy, incredible photos tweeted by the Rockford Illinois Police Department Fire Department from fairdale. To give you an idea of just how bad the destruction was, firefighters had trouble reaching some homes in the town of 200 just to check on the residents. And you can see why, every single building in fairdale has some sort of damage. Some have damage of every sort. Its not known when residents can go back into their homes to collect their belongings. Census bureau had to be put on lockdown for a time yesterday after a domestic dispute and a Security Guard at the agencys headquarters in maryland was shot and killed alleged lyly by a man who was holding his wife at gunpoint in a car allegedly. The Security Guard had gone over to try to help. Police chased the suspect back into the Washington Area where there was a crash and a shootout. The suspect and a Police Officer were wounded. Investigators in South Carolina have released dash cam video showing the moments before a Police Officer shot and killed an unarmed black man. You can see walter scott getting pulled over by officer Michael Slager for a broken taillight. Both men are courteous. Everything seems routine but shortly after slager returns to his cruiser, scott darts out of the car, runs off. Slager goes after him but theyre now off camera. A man fell off a horse he had stolen. He was tasered by deputies who then deliver a long series of punches and kicks pummeling. It lasts about two minutes. The suspect had fled police who were conducting a stolen identity investigation. He stole horses and led officers on an hours long chase. After his arrest the man was treated for undisclosed injuries. Another american is facing terror charges accused of trying to go to syria to fight for isis. Joshua van haften is his name. Youre seeing him there, a convicted sex offender. He was caught before he could cross the border from turkey. The 34yearold from wisconsin was flown to chicago this week taken into custody at ohare.
