Theyve been working on removing this crane since about 8 30 tonight. It was extended about 200 feet and just about five minutes it has been retracted back, you can see between some of the trees here. It was a tense afternoon and night, 11 hours after this crane collapsed. Tonight neighbors watch eagerly as the crane that crashed down in campbell is removed from their property. I didnt know really what to make of it. Reporter the end of the 200foot crane damaged mary holmes fence and shed and hit her neighbors house. I was speechless. I was like, what . At first it was like, it better not hit my roof. I just had my roof done. Reporter the woman next door was also home. She heard workers yelling before it toppled on to her shed. It was a huge boom, crashing noise like i have never heard before. Reporter police say it happened just before noon. Crews from king crane contracted through pg e were trying to replace a power pole in someones backyard when the crane collapsed. Two sheds were smashed, one home damaged. Before it happened i wasnt concerned at all because they said, you know, we do this all the time. Reporter one neighbor who works in construction was puzzled by the move to extend a crane that large through a neighborhood for one power pole. It was overextended, you know. You can only reach so far with crane, and if the weight shifted the wrong way, it is going to go down. Reporter pg e says it is investigating what went wrong. Pyeongchang is a mere 50 miles from the north korean border, and at least recently every day closer to the game seems to be a day of higher tensions between kim jongun and the United States.
