Work on that scene. Lets go ahead and show you video from when we had another view to get closer to the scene. The Sheriffs Office is tell us at 8 30 a. M. Relatives showed up at the home and found two individuals dead inside of that home from apparent gunshot wounds, and were learning that the two individuals were elderly. They are about 75 years old, a male and female couple. Now they are saying its too early to tell if this is a murdersuicide, but all this is under investigation at this time. Now i do want to point out that this appears to be an isolated incident. They do not believe this was a threat to any other people in this neighborhood, that the two people found inside that home appears to be at least at this time an isolated incident. Now, ill take you back out here live. You can see that it is an active scene up that hill, guys, but after talking to the marin county Sheriffs Office, they are tell me they will get a search warrant before going back inside the home to conduct their investigation, but that could take several hours. Well send it back to you in the studio. All right. Interesting, we can hear the helicopter in the background, too, pete. Thank you very much. Well be keeping you up to date on that story. A developing story, another one. Cases confirmed. We now know that its the norovirus that made more than 250 students in Santa Clara County sick and shuttered schools. Heres a map showing all the schools affected by this virus. Many of them include ten in the San Jose Unified School district. Nbc bay areas bob redell is at hacienda elementary, one of the hardest hit schools, and you spoke to the principal, and it seems like they are doing whatever they can to stop the spread of the virus. Reporter they are. Good morning to you, sam. Norovirus, if youre not familiar, spreads by contact and thats the reason why hacienda Environmental Science magnet, as you can see, has cleaned off and taped off their playground equipment and have made the structures off limits until the outbreak is stopped. They are using bleach and water to wipe down desks and chairs and countertops. Nurses have come to the school to properly and thoroughly wash their hands. No classes have been cancelled, but the school has cancelled Extracurricular Activities like open house, art night and the book fair. Hacienda alone has seen 80 to 90 kids stay home sick with the norovirus which causes vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue and other symptoms. We spoke with the Santa Clara CountyHealth Department. Confirm its foro. 250 kids total have become sick at 12 Santa Clara County schools including ten within the San Jose Unified School district which you can see if you want to take a look at your tv screen. The department hasnt confirmed norovirus and they are confident in their diagnosis since the kids have symptoms that act and look like foro. The first case was reported here at hacienda here at may 4th and then appears to have spread from here to other schools. We are a Magnet School which means were a lottery so which draw students from all over san jose. Were not a neighborhood school. So kids go back to their neighborhood and they play with their friends, and there are a million ways that it could be spreading throughout our city. Quite frankly i think they are going a little bit above and beyond what is really necessary, but, you know, the kids are getting sick so they are doing a fantastic job cleaning all the playground equipment, all the balls. Yesterday, we couldnt play with the balls because they were out cleaning the balls and the equipment, so they have done a great job. It sounds simple and sounds boring but washing your hands is so key to prevent the spread of so many diseases, and this is just one of those that good andwashing techniques will make a difference. Reporter the school has hey lefted parents to whats going on so remind them to have their kids practice good hygiene at home. One mom is saying to her two children this morning here at hacienda saying, hey, have a good day. I love you guys. Dont touch anyone. Dont touch anyone. Now the Health Department and the School District wants to remind you if you have a child who is sick, just because the symptoms are gone doesnt mean that the virus is gone. They want you to still keep your child home for 48 hours because 48 hours after the symptoms are gone, the virus is still shedding and being given off by your child and could be transmitted to someone else and make them sick. Report being live in san jose, bob redell, nbc bay area news. Forget touching anyone. Just make sure you wash your hands and keep your hands out of the mouth. Thats a tricky one with kids. House Speaker Paul Ryan reacted to that socalled comey memo this morning first defending the president and claiming that there are people out to harm him but then also calling for a dope examination into what the president actually said and did. We need the facts. It is obvious there are some people who want to harm the president , but we have an obligation to carry out our oversight regardless of which party is in the white house, and that means before rushing to judgment we get all the pertinent information. Ryan made those comments during a popup press conference. The trump administration, meanwhile, does not deny that the president exchanged those private words with the former fbi director but says the memo is not truthful. Nbcs Peter Alexander has more on the Ripple Effect that memo is causing in washington. Jason chaffetz says turn over all memoranda, notes, summarize and recordings by one week today between mr. Trump and mr. Comby. On the surface, that seems like an extraordinary use of influence to try to shut down an investigation being done by the fbi. Reporter the white house disputing the account. In a statement saying in part the president has never asked mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation. The white house also pointing out a comment by the acting fbi director at a Senate Hearing last week. Asked whether comeys firing has impacted their work. The work of the men and women of the fbi continues despite any changes in circumstance, any decisions, so there has been no effort to impede our investigation to date. Reporter still, several democrats are blasting the president s reported comments as an obstruction of justice. Even republican john mccain in an interview overnight with cbs saying the growing trump saga is bad for the country. I think weve seen this movie before. I think its reaching a point where its of watergate size and scale. Reporter while Lindsey Graham says he wants to hear from comey himself. If mr. Comey is alleging that the president did something inappropriate, its an open invitation to come to the Judiciary Committee and tell us that. I dont want to read a memo. I want to hear from him. Republicans starting to speak out here. That was Peter Alexander reporting. Meantime, another story, not even 48 hours old, and dogging this administration, russian president Vladimir Putin is offering congress a record of last weeks meeting between President Trump and foreign minister for russia Sergei Lavrov and ambassador sergey kislyak. They are actually so good there was talk of creating a futures market after the 9 11 attacks that allowed investments to bet on future terror attacks this. Wasnt some kind of kooky idea. The former National Security adviser John Poindexter actually proposed it. The idea was if you create a betting market you could predict attacks but it never came to fruition because lets face it, betting on other people dying is incredibly distasteful. But the point is you can listen to political reporters or pundits all you want, but when the markets say the white house is in trouble, thats your best indication there are big changes ahead in washington. There s a troubling trend acros the country and here in the bay area. Ir well, there is a very troubling trend across the country that is also happening here in the bay area. Firefighters struggling in silence. In the last two years, more firefighters took their own lives than died in the line of duty. That is a rough statistic to think about. If you take a closer look at the support services in place to help firefighters as we have, there is something to be revealed. Heres Investigative Reporter liz wagner. As part of our sixmonth investigation weve surveyed hundreds of firefighters. Most say they dont think theres enough recognition about the importance of Mental Health. Many First Responders are struggling to confront the tragedies they have witnessed on the job. They say the conversation about posttraumatic stress is especially important now, and in the wake of oaklands ghostship fire. The night of the ghostship fire crews worked hard to tame the flames. There were some Additional Units and there are some people unaccounted for. As the smoke cleared and the shift changed the lieutenant knew the harder work was still to come. Im certainly in a position that i can have conversations with them about the importance of this issue. Every one of them have had the same response, and that is its a good thing that were talking about this and about time we start to address this issue. Reporter loot george freelandland is still on the job at station 13. These are all the letters that came to this station.
