The fire started on the freeway near the east fifth street exit. The flames started moving quickly, getting dangerously close to apartments on east oak street. This started 2. 5 hours ago just when fires started heating up on highway 12. He saw it when it all started. We looked to the left. There was a tiny fire there. We pulled over real quick. By the time i called 911, that thing was right up in flames. Reporter now, as you can see, fire crews are starting to wrap it up here, but theyre standing by making sure all the hot spots are out. All these fires wreaking havoc on air quality. Thank you. We have this to pass along to you. The fire in sasoon city threatening cattle. Ranchers were able to herd the cattle into the next pin over. The good news tonight is this fire about 70 contained. The bad news, it has grown to more than 1,000 acres. This is exactly what firefighters have been fearing during this red flag warning. All it took was just a spark to get this wind whipping. This fire turned into an eightalarm fire. There are a lot of cattle out here. Some ranch homes. There are some hunting clubs. We are told a half dozen homes remain threatened at this hour. There are dozens and dozens of firefighters out here that are attacking this fire from the ground and from the air. Weve been watching helicopter drops all afternoon. This fire is now about 70 contained. This fire started just after noon, right off of highway 12. Its unclear what started it. Perhaps a spark from a car driving by, but again, it took off very, very quickly. Whipped by winds that were blowing up to 40 miles an hour. The county has every available resource out here. They have called for mutual aid. They are taking this very seriously. Right now, about a half dozen homes remain threatened. At some point, there were some School Children that had to be evacuated. They were taking a field trip near the ranch area. Everybody was okay. Certainly nerves rattled. We have seen homeowners and ranch owners come by worried about their neighbors, everybody on edge.
