Do i need gods help . Do i need mercy and guidance from beyond . Or can i get through all this by myself without needing anybody or anything else. When i make the profession the confession, i need help. I need god. I need the help of other people. I need the help of family and friends. And i also need gods help. Then we can open up the gift that he sends us, because were admitting we need god. And then i think, is it the christmas sentiment that we got to work on . There is one thing thats clear, this is a world in badly need of comfort. Its been a year thats been really hard. I cant tell you how many people feel the whole world is falling apart. When i see you guys in the morning, on the treadmill, you can easily get depressed. Dont bring the message. You can easily get depressed. You see all the violence, all the war, all the poverty. You see all the crises that we go. Every once in a while, you think, what is going on . Is there anyway out of this . This is what we traditionally look at christmas is gods rescue mission. God says, there is a way out of it. Me. Im the one who created this mess. Im the one who can get you ought of it. If you turn your hearts to me, you kind of listen and obey what i told you, things are going to be a lot better. I will help with you my grace and mercy. Let me take on the role of critic. Sure. Even though you say that, everybody agrees with you, certainly we do here. So much of whats going on around the world right now seems to be driven by differences and so how do you square the two things . Sure. You know there is a powerful impulse to say, hey, religion is the problem. Its not the solution. I take my queue from pope francis. Hes on steroids. Any religion in quote marks that brings along hatred or violence or misunderstanding or bloodshed, thats an abuse of the term. That is not religion. Religion by its nature is conciliatory, uplifting. It stresses love, mercy and forgiveness. So what we got to do, of course, hes leading us, is reclaim the general meaning of religion. Christmas is a good time to do that. Christmas morning, here we are. Christmas morning, it usually for most people, its the way things should be. Its the way things are intevended to be. You almost get a feeling you are around the tree with family, friends, gifts. Its bam cliche, we say, why cant it be like this . At least a couple moments, this is the way god intended. This is how were supposed to act. This is the way life should be usually. So its almost like god is sending under the circumstances a reminder, memo, this is what i intend all year, folks, at least we got it for a little while. I dont know what christmas is like in rain shower household growing up. We rip through a lots of presents on Christmas Morning. Its a wonderful part of our tradition in this country. How would you recommend people if they want to take a moment to reflect to try to just kind of peak into the real reason for the future. No matter their faith. Look, im pretty biassed. I would say the first thing to do would be prayer. What we got in 90 of the christmas scenes in our homes, even for those who are not believers, there is probably a crib set. So few stop and simply and sincerely look on that and complicate and kwon template that, that this is gods son who came to us as an innocent, fragile, tender baby, who wants to be held, who wants to be loved and accepted, thats beautiful. I tend to do it. You know. But lets at least say, this is good and then coming together, solidarity. This is the one we got a cliche about it. Nobody should be himself or herself on christmas. Because with this almost this tangible feeling of solidarity that we are a part of the family. We are a part of a wider community. Christmas brings that about. Those are all magnificent noble sentiments that are a part of this season and to contemplate those. To think about those, i think restores the genuine significance of what this is all about. So its a low calorie starter for christmas, but youll start for the new year. Wait a second, we talked about Peanut Butter and jelly. Where is the jelly part . A bit of cream. We finish with a little raspberry jam. You mix that together. You dont need to add the sugar with the jam. It holds it right together. Hot chocolate, easy as can be, fresh hot chocolate like the way grandma used to make. I will hang on to that, you patriot little cream on there, we will move to our next dish. A little kettle corn. You can use bacon strims, its just as easy. We will come through the guys and spread this over my pancetta. You will get eight little brown, soft and warm. We have new details this morning on the fire in San Francisco that burnt three homes. We just learned two of the houses have been red tagged, meaning they are not safe to live in. The red cross has been called to the scene to help the families who live there. The fire started just before 7 00 and it took nearly 100 firefighters to extinguish that fire. No one was hurt and crews managed to save two cats and a dog from two of the houses, but two other cats from the third house did not make it. One man does a quick act of kindness after a san jose family nearly lost its home in a fire. Yesterdays fire damaged much of the homes top floor, leaving the family without a place to stay on Christmas Eve. A man dropping off gifts heard what happened and donated 2,000 for the family. Nobody was injured and while on the topic of goodwill, lefty odowells reached its goal of 10,000 toys donated to charity. 6,000 toys have been already delivered in the city and the rest will be handed out today. This is by no means a Christmas Present that one family was hoping for. Four people out of a home this morning after their second story house caught fire overnight. Three of them managed to make it down the stairs, but a fourth person had to jump to safety. That person was taken to the hospital, suffering a broken leg. This fire happened near 56th street and mlk in oakland. The cause of the blaze still under investigation, but the Fire Department says it has responded to the same address several times in the last six months to put out similar fires. Were both 33. I think it started five years ago with my mother dayed a edie marriage ended in the same month. My life was so focused on the stuff and things that werent bringing me purpose or joy. So i started with a question for me, how might your life be better if you own less stuff . And that helped me identify what the benefits of minimalism were. For me, it was finances. Way too much debt, i didnt have control of my finances, didnt have control of my time. What did you do with this concept, you and your pal. Who have been friends since fifth grade, by the way. Ill tell you how i started, with a Packing Party. When i first saw these benefits of living more simply, and just living more stress free life with these principles, went to josh and was, like, help me do this. We came up with this idea of a Packing Party where we decided to pack up all my belongings as if i were moving, just pretend and unpack only the items i needed over the next three weeks. So josh came over and helped me pack up my clothes, kitchen ware, towels, tv, electronics, my furniture, everything. At the end of it, i had about 80 of my stuff still sitting in boxes and that was unused . Yeah. It was my moment of heres all this stuff that is supposed to make me happy thats not doing its job. Thats where minimalist. Com started with that Packing Party story. With the holidays, there is so much stuff under the trees. How much freer do you feel not lugging around all that stuff . It is an incredible feeling, but it is not about just the stuff. I dont think there is a problem with consumption. The problem is compulsory consumption. Buying things because thats what were supposed to do. In a hypothetical world, what if one of you falls in love with a maximalist. You like her stuff. My girlfriend i live with, i dont think she would call herself a minimalist. She has about 20 pairs of shoes. Thats nothing compared to hoda. What i will say is her and i have very similar values and beliefs. We respect one another. We love one another. We appreciate one another. And it works really, really well. And it is not just my romantic relationships that have improved. Even the people i hang with outside of that, i really deliberately choose people who have the same values and beliefs.
