To a developing story in san jose. Police are confirming the victims in a deadly double shooting. Late last night were brothers. This happened around 9 00 last night. Not far from tan stadium. Bob redell has been on scene all morning. Neighbors in the area say it was likely a drive by sort of shooting. Good morning. Reporter good morning. Neighbors believe it was gang related. We talked to police about that and they said its possibly gang related. It happened around 8 45 last night in front of a home a few doors down from where im substantial doubting. At the intersection of eighth and martha. It happened in front of the home. Two suspects they pull up in a white vehicle and came out of the vehicle then gunned down two brothers who were outside of the house. The brothers were in their 20s and another one in their 30s. One ended up dying on the scene. The other one passed away a short time later at the hospital. In a technical sense it wasnt a drive by shooting. They got out of the car got back in the car and took off. They are out standing the suspects are. The two brothers killed here. Neighbors say they heard at least a dozen shots. Possibly as many as 20. A source with the Police Department tells us that the suspects did use an automatic ak47 weapon there to gun down these men. These men are number 32 and number 33 homicides for this year in the city of san jose. Last year in 2015, a total of 30 people had been murdered and here we are in the of august and theyve already, unfortunately, surpassed that total. I think every homicide is important to a city, its citizens, and the Police Department. I dont draw a number of conclusion from the number being higher ee eer or lower. What lead to the homicide is unknown. We may know, eventually. If we do, we can put that information out. And police tell us, again, they are looking for the people who shot and killed these brothers. Officers say the attempted to enter a bar on lumbar street after closing last month when the bartender tried to stop him the suspect bit off the bartenders ring finger. The suspect also hit the bartender in the face multiple times as you see him trying to attack the man. A man diving for abalone died off the coast. Life guards pulled that man from the water after a dive. He was pronounced dead on the beach. The mans identity hasnt been released. Several bay area residents died last year while diving for abalone which is a group of small to large sea snails. A a church in shock this morning after thieves steal a historic relic. It happened at st. Dominics last week. The parish said someone stole a piece of the true cross. In a Facebook Post, they wrote while the relic has no monetary value, theyre praying the people will return it. That was not part of the set design. You see the rain coming down. New details on the wild fire in lake county is almost fully contained. Cal fire said the clayton fire destroyed 300 structures is 95 contained and close to being out. A serial arsonist is suspected of starting the fire on august 13th. The valley fire burned miles away last year killing three people and destroying nearly 600 homes. That fire was sparked bay faulty hot tub wiring. There are six fires burning upanddown the state. Thousands of firefighters battling the active and aggressive fires. In bernardino the fire is 85 contained. Thousands of people evacuated are allow eed back in. Many returning to levelled homes. There is a fire threatening the hurst hearst castle. Firefighters have a plan in place. Theres been a lot of smoke in the skies over the south bay recently and definitely over the rest of the bay area. A new joint study from harvard and Yale University finds in the coming decades people in the three bay area counties will be at the greatest risk of exposure to Dangerous Levels of pollution from wild fires. Police are looking for a man they say bit off a bartenders finger. Today in the bays pete suranos live in San Francisco. Police actually have video of the suspect. Reporter yes, were getting that new video from sfpd. It shows a clear picture of the suspect. The video doesnt show the specific. We can show you some of the video. You can see the video roaming around outside the bar. Looks like hes eating something. He gets into a tussle with a friend. We dont know if it was before and after the incident. According to spfd it happened on the 1900 block of lumbar street around 2 15 a. M. The bartender turning away the suspect since the bar closed. The suspect was partying and drinking with friends earlier in the night. Lead to a fight between the two. The suspect allegedly hitting the bartender in the face multiple times and allegedly biting off one of the bartenders fingers. The fingers was eventually amputated. Today in the bay. Thank you very much. A developing story out of the south bay. Within the last 90 minutes or so, Police Confirmed the victims in a latenight double homicide in jose are brothers. That shooting happened about 9 00 last night near the san jose state campus and Spartan Stadium. The first victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Other died at the hospital a short time later. Police dont know what might have lead up to the shooting. Witnesses say they heard more than a dozen gunshots, possibly as many as 20. Then saw a white car speeding away. Our own bob redell has been at the scene talking with police. Hes going to bring a live update in about 20 minutes. New this morning several pills found at princes estate were counterfeit drugs and dangerous. An offici prince died in april of an overdose. The drug was found in princes minnesota home were inside aspirin and vitamin bottles in duffel bags and in a dressing room. Prince did not have a prescription for any controlled substance in minnesota. Authorities are still investigating how prince got those drugs. Anger boiled over in San Francisco recently as protesters hit the streets to speak out against a recent attack outside of the gay bar. Earlier this month tommy castallani was ambushed outside a gay karaoke bar. He was beaten so badly he needed surgery. Police havent ruled the attack as a hate crime, the community sees it as an ongoing problem. Activates rallied to increase awareness and encourage members of the Gay Community to look out for each other. Theres continuing violence and harassment and bullying of lgbt people in San Francisco. I want to know why we have to be victims or targets. Why are we easy prey . Is there not a better solution we could have come to . Youll hear from chp officer Ryan Schneider injured in the line of duty. His doctors requested treatment more than 300 times. Some of those treatments were repeatedly denied. They take so long to get approved or they just never get approved at all. And its hard to get better under those circumstances. Is officer schneider the exception or the rule here . Hes the rule. Some doctors say that injured workers are being denied treatment now more than ever before. Well tell you why. Its not far from the San Jose State UniversitySpartan Stadium. Police are confirming the victims are brothers. Reporter they are. One in their 20s and one in their 30s. Both shot and killed outside a home on south eighth street a couple doors down from where were at now. Happening around 8 45 last night. Neighbors believe it was gang related. Police confirmed that is, in fact, a possibility. The two suspects pulled up in a vehicled as a white vehicle. They got out and started firing what a source tells us was an ak47. Neighbors heard at least a dozen shots. Possibly as many as 20. One brother skiy e died on th scene. The other died later at the hospital. The summits spects escaped. Police are looking for them. Again, were about a half mile away from Spartan Stadium here in san jose where two brothers were gunned down last night. Theyre still searching for the suspect.
