As heather ishimaru explains we now know what the pilots were doing and what the plane was doing in those critical final moments. Now that investigators in washington had more time to listen to the cockpit voice recordings, they have added more detail to the last nine seconds of the flight. Rather than just one call for a goaround or aborted landing there were two. They came seconds after the voice recorder after the pilots first noticed their speed had fallen below the target approach speed. This was hundred feet nine seconds to impact. Three seconds before impact, there is a call for a goaround. There is a second call for a goaround at 1. 5 seconds prior to impact. This call is made by a different crew member. N. T. S. B. Chairwoman suggests the bright light on approach record by the flying pilot did not affect his ability to fly. The pilot that saw the light stated he did not believe it affected his vision and he was able to see the cockpit instruments. The group studying the flight data recorder has now covered 220 and 1400 pieces of data and there is no sign with any problems with the plane itself. There is no behavior of the autopilot of the flight director and of the auto tlol based on the fdr data reviewed to date. There are still mountains of data and evidence to work through. What they have released and done so far is the tip of the iceberg. Normally they take a minimum of a year to complete. However, this is a very significant event. There is a lot of interest in it. We want to make sure that we complete this investigation as expeditiously as possible. It will be a high priority for our agency and we look to get under that 12 month mark. The procedures for families to make arrangements with the funeral home to pick up the body. Although we learned there is no state law regulated that go process, the head of the Funeral Consumers Alliance agree that has is common practice. The coroners job is not to make deceased look pretty and the features a in order and dressed nicely. That is what the funeral home would want to do. The chinese consulate has been helping all the families impacted by the crash and a spokesman told me today they are trying to help make arrangements with funeral homes. Coroner says his office has been talking with the parent 16yearold victims and this is the first time he has heard of any concerns from the father about viewing her body.
