How did she know when to make her move . We find out tonight. , reek is pr we have some surveillance camera footage that is a real eye opener. You would think having lunch in a place like walnut creek is safe right . Well andria borba says well, you still have to Pay Attention to what is going on around you. Reporter by the time this woman realized she was a victim, she was already out 3,000 in purchases she didnt make. Set your stopwatch. In threeandahalf minutes, the blond in the bottom right will go from lady who lunches to crime victim. Call it anatomy of a wallet snatching. Watch this woman enter the restaurant tender greens. In under a minks she has her mark. She identifies the victim here sitting next to the victim. Reporter former fbi agent and president of investigations rick smith says the crime is nearly textbook. While the victim is literally and figuratively out to lunch chatting and eating, the woman moving in. It takes time, but she knows she has time because the victim hadnt noticed anything. Reporter sitting next to the victim, the suspect strikes emptying the contents of the wallet into her bra. Putting the wallet back in and walking away. Someone will walk into the floor of a law firm and steal a purse or a wallet. Run outside, give it to someone else on the street and that person gives it to a third person. Reporter smith says the suspect isnt sophisticated but has probably done this before and will do it again unless the Surveillance Video causes someone to drop a dime. She is a criminal, probably a drug addict and she will do it again because she doesnt want to stop. Reporter there are seven different cameras inside tender greens. You only saw one of the angles there. Walnut creek police have all of those angles and the exteriors. Live in walnut creek, andria borba, kpix5. They are tricky. A thief gave Palo Alto Police the slip. Dominique calf was wanted for passing a phony check at bank of america. He spent hours inside a house on Everett Court before he gave himself up. The homeowner had no ideas this guy was wanted. Basically gave him some food. Took care of him for a while and offered him a ride out of town unbeknownst to the homeowner this was a dangerous criminal. He was also wanted in oklahoma for a sex crime with a minor. It is called the green rush. So many people from all over the world coming to Northern California to grow pot. The law says it has to be for medicine but as joe vasquez found out, it is all too easy to gain the system with hardly any legal consequences. Reporter from the skies, it is painfully obvious. The rivers are running dry, but not just because of the drought in humboldt county, but the thousands of marijuana grows. They require thousands of gallons of water per day and growers are taking water from rivers an streams without a state permit. That is illegal. But we found very few marijuana growers ever go to prison. Take the case of this operation run last year by a group of bulgarian nationals. Sheriffs deputies destroyed hundreds of plants. Hundreds of trees had been cut down to make room and a creek was drained. Valentine maranov was the ring leader who got a 300,000 civil fine but no criminal charges. Last year, 109 people were arrested for marijuana cultivation. Only seven were convicted. In the last five years not one single cultivation case has gone to trial in humboldt county. None. There is no inaction on my part. Reporter the District Attorney says not to blame him. It is californias much too vague marijuana laws. Under the compassionate use act, you can grow marijuana for medical use and form a coop and grow communally. But every county has regulations on how many plants are allowed and humboldt has no limits at all so people use the system. We arrive at the sites for hundreds of plants. Completely illegal activity. Look at the impact on our community and 100 plus recommendations will surface and everyone is like, my part of this massive grow is completely lawful. Whether they are lawful or not, since the burden of proof is beyond a reasonable doubt for us, we have to prove it unanimously to 12 jurors, it is often a burden of proof we are not able to prevail at trial. Reporter so was he operating a california legal patient coop or growing it for an illegal operation . We wanted to ask him that, but he was nowhere to be found. Meanwhile back in humboldt, the pot farm he was running appear to be back in business. You can see inside the greenhouses they have replanted this year. Reporter both the sheriff and the da says there is no doubt in their mind organized crime has moved into the area. But juries in humboldt are reluctant to put growers in jail so the da is not going toe take the cases the trial because he will lose. He tells us they should just legalize it. It looked like a big operation. Those are huge plots. Reporter people have been coming from other states, other countries and it is quite organized but the jury just dont convict anybody. So vague. Just change it. Thanks joe. We are looking at 10,000 dollar wave in tahiti. That is how much pro surfer nat young won for catching his ride on camera. He took the top prize for the go pro challenge. There it forms again. And in he goes again. Yeah. Beautiful. Oh absolutely gorgeous. You want to head to the beach, this is the week you have been waiting for, 65, too cold. It will be close to 80 at the beach coming up this weekend. That is what happens this time of year. Every late september and early october though it rained last week, we had thunderstorms, things will eventually settle down. We eventually get an offshore wind and temperatures shoot off like a rocket near the water. That is what happens tomorrow. Here is what we had going on earlier tonight. This is petrero hill. We will continue to see cloud free skies all the way into the weekend. Look at the rainfall for september. Yes, im looking at percentages. We more than doubled our average rainfall in San Francisco, in san jose, but now september is over. Lets talk about october. And the heat. We start off nice tomorrow morning. You will be down to 59. Redwood city, 58. Huge ridge of High Pressure moving in which is not that uncommon to have it close by. But what we have is a ridge of High Pressure moving over the top of us. Thats the key. Over the top of us, just to the north, the clock wise flow around it is giving us an east wind or an offshore wind that will last four or five days. The ocean influence, all the chilly air over the pacific does not matter. Not a factor. The wind is coming off of land. That is a warm to hot flow of air for us. Even the beach will be close to 80 degrees. Mainly clear night tonight. Plan on that for a while. Sunny, much warmer tomorrow especially on the peninsula, the coast, the city. This will increase the fire danger. We will be dry and breezy in the hills. Look at San Francisco tieing san jose. 83 degrees. One of the warmest days of the year will be tomorrow. Cupertino, 86. San ramon, livermore. Alameda, 81. Novato, 87. It gets hotter. Mid 90s inland three days. Friday, saturday, excuse me, thursday, friday, saturday. 80s near the bay through the weekend. 70s at the coast. It will cool off next week, but here comes the hot stuff. Thats right. Of course october. It must be warm. Right. It must be time for record heat. Every year. All right paul. Mission to mars. Tonight, wait until you hear why elon wants to send people to the red planet. ,,,, has a new idea tonight he s to put a Million People on. The head of tesla and space x has a new idea tonight. That would be a problem. Dont let details get in a way of a good story. Speaking of which, the as season came down to one series in kansas city. This wild card game truly was wild. ,,,,,,,,,, it is being called one of the most dramatic playoff games in history. A roller coaster of home runs, stolen bases and a walkoff base hit. Royals fans, first post season game since the reagan administration. The stadium really got quiet in the Third Quarter when brandon moss hit a threerun shot. 53 oakland. They led 73. Kansas city cut the lead to 1 in the 8th inning and in the 9th inning, dyson scored on a sacrifice fly. The game was tied. Alberto callaspo, a base hit, reddick scores, as lead 87, but the royals kept coming back. Eric hosmer. He legs out atrip l and scored on an infield hit and tied the game. With two outs, he tries to steal second. The as pitch out, but derek norris drops the baseball. A huge mistake because two batters later, salvador perez, base hit off jason hamels curve ball. Josh donaldson couldnt make the play, colon scores easily. They eliminated the as 98. Im not feeling pretty good. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played well and hard, but uh, the short answer to your question is not great at this point. It was impressive to hear the confidence that they had in their voice. And the intensity they had in their voice and the will that they had in their voice. I was like, they are right. They are not going to be denied. Well, there is Still One Team alive. The giants worked out of pittsburgh today for the preparation in the wild card game. Travis ishigawa will start. He began the season as a pirates starting first baseman before eventually losing his spot on the roster. You know, i think they felt like that trade would make them better so i cant fault them for it. Dennis allen is gone, but todays press conference to introduce the interim coach tony sparano became more about the manager reggies job security. My job is to lead this team. Look for our next interim head coach, look for our coach for the future. And im going to continue to do that unless im told otherwise. Sparano has some coaching experience with the dolphins but the raiders owner mark davis told reporters he is already looking for next year. Makenzie is safe for now, but davis is not happy with the way things are going. There ever were raider fans everywhere. We havent won a game yet. And then to play like we did over there, and what we have done for these fans, it is not right. And i feel bad for them. They still have a little time to work it out. If sparano wants to be in the conversation about sticking around, he has to finish strong. The as started sliding two months ago . Yeah. Well be right back. Looking for one of these . Yoplait. Smooth, creamy, and craved by the whole family. Trying to mislead you about the effects of proposition 46. Well heres the truth 46 will save lives. It will save money too. Im bob pack, and im fighting for prop 46 because i lost my two children to preventable medical errors and i dont want anyone else to lose theirs.
