There is no doubt this is a sophisticated attack and paralyzing yet again a major western capital. Reporter abdeslam a prime suspect in the deadly terror attacks in paris had been on the run since november. Don champion, cbs news. As every as for how american airports are responding to the attacks, jackie ward is live at sfo with more. How is security looking at sfo given the events in brussels . Reporter was of now the tsa has not ordered sfo to heightened its security. So right now we are at a normal level here. Its business as usual at the international terminal. Travelers may see more police. It wont be apparent especially at this time of day, sfo says. There are no nonstop flights to brussels by way of sfo. Of course, there are connecting flights in london, paris, amsterdam and frankfurt. A couple of domestic flights connect to europe new york city and dc are also hubs that connect to europe. If you are heading to sfo give yourself the normal amount of time that you otherwise would to get abroad this morning. Jackie, it doesnt seem too busy at sfo right now. Have you been able to talk to any passengers and are they worried . Reporter we did go into the terminal about 20 minutes ago and everything is calm. There are no earlymorning flights over to europe that are scheduled. Thats normal. Thats not anything different because of these attacks. So there are people going to canada. They were calm. Everything is really normal at sfo. Jackie ward, kpix 5. President obama has been briefed on the bombings and the department of Homeland Security is closely watching that situation. Washington insider Marc Sandalow joins us now with the potential fallout on the attacks. Good morning, marc. Reporter good morning. How do you think this attack and the deadly explosion in paris could affect washingtons attitudes about extremism in europe as well as security here in the u. S. . Reporter fear is a very motivating factor when it comes to policy and looking at the department of Homeland Securitys web page this morning and the state department, nothing has been updated to alert travelers to do anything differently. Jackie said, security is likely to be stepped up but these attacks point to something important. There have been billions of dollars spent in this country on transportation protection. You go through metal detectors in airports. These explosions took place outside of the metal detectors. So theres really very little that can be done in open society if there are motivated people who want to do harm to stop it. Clearly this will have a change in public attitude. Just today apple just got put off on a court case a case about whether or not the terrorist in San Bernardino was going to have their apple phone whether or not the government was going to force apple to let them into the phone. There was a big divide about whether to do that. A lot of civil libertarians saying apple cant give up this privacy right. After attacks like this, people get scared and theres no question in my mind that the government is going to be pushing that much harder to make sure they get to open up that phone and i think the public after an attack like this might support them. Public opinion might subway, as well. How do you think the deadly events in brussels will change the conversation on the campaign trail . Reporter yeah, you know, fear may be important in policy, even more important on the campaign trail. Theres no question that the tough talk coming from the frontrunner donald trump will appeal to americans. We dont know who is responsible for these attacks. There are talking about people yelling in arabic beforehand. Donald trumps pledge to temporarily keep muslims out of the United States will resonate with more people. There is a strong flip side to that. It may also be that in scary times when people are scared, that they may not want a Real Estate Developer who, um, apparently last night speaking to the proisrael, um, meetings in washington really didnt seem to understand that there is no palestine right now. He had to be corrected. He kept talking about palestine as if its been a country was not a country since 1948. Hillary clinton hopes that experience, say a former secretary of state, might be the person. So its very hard to say but it is clear that this increases fear and fear is not a good place to be in making rational decisions. So marc, do you think this will hurt mr. Trump on the campaign trail . Reporter i hesitate because, yes, i do, every time i thought something is going to hurt donald trump, insulting john mccain, getting in a fight with the pope, insulting various peoples, every time i have suggested that may hurt him, it never has. So predicting something will hurt donald trump is foolish. Yes. Good point. Well have to see. Marc sandalow live in washington, dc, thank you.
