They hung a resist banner within view of the white house. Two of them, females, both from San Francisco. One is a board member for greenpeace. It also appears she was in washington, dc to protest trumps inauguration. The other protestor a female from oakland. It was a little chilly this morning when we arrived at the crane site. But it was a lot chillier in the oval office when President Trump decided to sign those executive orders. There were a total of 7 greenpeace activists involved in the protest. Some of them retired but they showed up because they have been on the case since day one and, of course, the family was there today. Holding back tears, ginger found the courage to speak today now that her daughters suspected killer has been arrested. She was taken from us at the age of 14. 3 had years ago by the hands of a vicious cowardly murderer. Reporter Deanna Johnson disappeared after going to a house party just down the street from her childhood home. Her body found the next day down the road. She had been strangled and beaten. Suspects were questioned but no one ever arrested until now. Today its not a celebration. But it is a significant day. Reporter 51yearold Marvin Markle who was at the house party and 17 years old at the time was already behind bars in butte county convicted of a 2001 murder of another woman. Investigators say testimony in that trial included statements from people saying markle had admitted to killing deanna. May he rot in hell. Reporter deannas best friend at the time mary never gave up hope. I remember at one point he said you will never get me mary as he was spitting on me. I said counts my words, honey, i will get you. Reporter if convicted his sentence will be added to the 80 years he is already serving. We miss her very much. Deanna, believe in god because the rainbows that we believe in god because of deanna. Reporter investigators didnt release the information or the evidence that they have because they didnt want to jeopardize the case moving forward. Now, he was transferred from butte to Solano County yesterday. He will appear in Court TomorrowJuvenile Court because he was 17 when this crime happened. This afternoon, the coast guard called off the search for a missing kayaker in the south bay. Crews were searching in bay waters north of san joses alviso area not far from the dumbarton all morning long. Kpix 5s anne makovec was in fremont during the search effort. Reporter kenneth malled dad no was last seen at 4 maldonado was last seen in the bay on a kayak by a friend near him in a raft. The boat was upsidedown capsized and he didnt see the friends. The water is extremely cold and it was very cold last night. So if he could have gotten himself up on one of the levees, you know, theres still a chance. The teams pulled her car out of the water yesterday and they are now searching the entire creek. In livermore five cars were stolen in about an hour just after 7 00 this morning. Police think thieves are targeting people warming up their cars on these cold mornings. Two were stolen during the same time yesterday. Pictures have piled up of blue gogo bikes in china had city leaders fearful that would happen here so the company rented private parking lots for the time being hoping to apiece city hall. That kind of handicaps up with not being able to expand freely and into neighborhoods we would have wanted to in a faster pace. San francisco has been named the most dangerous city for drivers in california. A new study based it on several factors including injury rates, alcoholrelated accidents and number of young drivers. Northern california cities claimed 4 of the top 20 spots on that list. At the top of the list of dangerous cities for drivers, San Bernardino is number 2 followed by santa ana, berkeley and los angeles. Simi valley was named the safest city for drivers. Just ahead of carlsbad, fremont, Thousand Oaks and temecula. University of california president Janet Napolitano back at work tonight after being hospitalized for cancer treatments. And she is urging the board of regents to approve a tuition hike. Day one of a twoday meeting on tuition and negotiations with the workers union. Tuition has been frozen for the last six years. But the uc system has seen increase enrollment while state funding has been cut. The board is expected to vote on the proposed tuition hike on thursday. President trump is cracking down hard on the Environmental Protection agency. The epa. The white house ordered that any studies or data from scientists now must be reviewed by political appointees before they can be released to the public. That includes reports on climate change.
