Bart is running shorter trains so they are packed with people. And thats affected trains systemwide so bart is ordering parts for these cars that normally takes about five months for the parts to come in so bart is trying to work with the manufacturer to make that a little bit shorter amount of time so they can get these cars back on track. Because of the bart closures you might see extra busy conditions on 4 this morning. Thats the case right now. Slowandgo conditions westbound 4 as you work your way hillcrest to highway 242. Drive times from 7 minutes now to 11 minutes with speeds down to 25 Miles Per Hour. Thats that area of highway 4. A lot of folks might use that instead of using bart this morning. Now, we have another trouble spot as you work your way out of san jose this morning. Injury accident north 101 near old oakland road an overturned vehicle. Fire crews and tow crews are in the right lane. Nine Miles Per Hour. So it is slowandgo as you work your way through there. In fact, the drive team now almost halfhour or just beyond that now northbound 101, 280 680 at least to 237. Your best alternate to avoid the delays along 101 is to use 280 instead. There are no delays through downtown san jose. There are delays at the bay bridge, business as usual backed up to the maze metering lights. Not too bad on the approaches westbound 580 okay. Eastshore freeway okay, 20 minutes for your drive time from the carquinez bridge to the maze. If you are headed to sfo this morning, 101 easy ride northbound 92 to the 80 split, 19 minutes. 280 to 380 no delays. Eastbound 92 out of Half Moon Bay okay into san mateo. Repairs are under way on a washedout section of highway 3 in trinity county. Mud slides from recent el nino storms caused a big stretch of the highway to collapse. The collapse cut off access to a Tiny Community leading emergency officials to scramble for workarounds. Went from probably a 200foot fail u up to maybe 500 feet and we anticipate we have marked the road to continue to monitor it but we anticipate it will be about 700 feet. Caltrans is working on widening a nearby dirt road thats being use as an alternate. We are getting a break in the weather but rain is coming back sunday into monday. Thats it. East of the bay out of the 80s into the 70s in brentwood, tracy, oakley, Mountain House and discovery bay. 70 in benicia swinging around to American Canyon including vallejo. New this morning state lawmakers say they are going to ease up on some of the water cutbacks thanks to all the rain we got last week. The state department of Water Resources says it will distribute 45 of water to agencies, thats up 5 from 2014. Experts say all the rain we got in january and earlier this month really helped but its not enough to end the drought. President obamas pick for the Supreme Court vacancy isnt getting a warm welcome in washington. New this morning, four San Francisco sheriffs deputies are being sued over abuse and harassment claims by three inmates. The inmates claim the guards ran a fight club at the jail and forced them to participate in gladiatorlike fights with other inmates. In addition to the lawsuit, the deputies are also facing criminal charges and have all pleaded not guilty. They are currently tree on bail. At san jose state, many students are frustrated with the outcome of a racial bullying case. Dozens protested yesterday afternoon over a recent sentencing decision. Two of the three students found guilty of the bullying were sentenced to 30 days in jail or weekend work. And a third student was sentenced to one day in jail and gets credit for time served. Visitors handle pieces to design microscopic critters and release them into the Virtual World where they interact with the other creations. The living colors lab is where you put on lab gear, rubber gloves and handle dna to engineer multicolored bacteria, then projected on a display. Then theres the Biotinkering Lab with you visitors grow bricks out of mushrooms the root struck of the mushroom acts like glue and after its grown, dried out and baked it can be used as furniture. The studio is all about making experiences openended. They hope to inspire the next generation of biotech researchers to change the world. Everybody can come in and explore biology in the real world. Reporter the mysterious issue continues. Bart is now flying in transit experts from around the country to try to help them figure out what is going wrong on the tracks. In the meantime bart commuters have to continue to use this bus bridge, thats been in place. Thatpeople will have to board buses like these to get between the North Concord and Pittsburg Baypoint stations in contra costa county. Means passengersso barts advice, add 30 minutes to your trip. Bart shut down that section of track after power surges damaged 50 train cars on wednesday. Barts engineers still cant figure out why. Been. Frankly, bart sucks. Theres been so much delay, its disturbing. But i have to go to work. Reporter so 50 cars were knocked out of service this week, 80 cars were benched two weeks ago because of a similar mysterious surge problem in the transbay tube. Nearly 200 cars in san jose have been hit by bb guns lately and police are looking for whoever is behind that crime. Reporter da lin has the Surveillance Video. Reporter police are hoping the public can identify this car and the people inside. Watch as a passenger runs on the driveway and shoots the windows of two cars. Yes, its a bb gun but it doesnt take away that vision thats in your head of some guy standing out there on your driveway shooting. It was surreal. Reporter this woman wants to conceal her identity. Since january, vandals have blown out her car windows three separate times. The vandals drive a different car every time. In this case, the suv slows down and someone shoots a bb gun from the drivers seat. The most recent, vandals shot out eightcar windows on this block. Every time its like this cant be happening again what is the problem . Very stressful. Reporter San Leandro Police say call it bad luck. They dont believe she is being targeted. Since late december, vandals have shot about 180 car windows in san leandro, san lorenzo and castro valley. These are not burglaries. They are nothing more than people committing acts of vandalism to the vehicles destroying property. Reporter it could be the same group of young men. The question is, why . People who are stupid have nothing else to do. Reporter investigators say replacing these windows has cost drivers about 60,000. Thats just . San leandro alone not counting the other cities. Im da lin, kpix 5. Police want to keep an eye out for a bay area woman suspected of murdering her 90 yearold mother and stuffing her body in a trash can. Investigators think Alicia Osibin has changed her appearance and is possibly disguised as a man and may be hiding out in los angeles. Heres what she looked like the last time anyone in the bay area saw her. Police found her mother marys remains behind her el cerrito home on december 2. She had been shot to death. Its unclear how long the body had been in the trash barrel. But neighbors told police they hadnt seen mary or the daughter since august. Police dont have the motive but they are convinced they are after the right person. They lived together, daughter gone, and theres a number of factors suspected the mother was murdered and the daughter hasnt been seen or heard from since. We thought she might have been a missing person, as well. Heres another look at Alicia Osibin. According to officers, she may be going by the name alex calico and dressing in mens clothes. Police say she is considered to be armed and dangerous. Berkeley schools are warning parents about a possible attempted kidnapping this week. On monday morning a 9yearold girl was walking to Malcolm X Elementary School when a man approached her on the 2900 block of harper street in the city. Police say he got out of a green minivan and when the girl noticed him following her, she ran to school. He is a latino man in his late 20s, about 59 with a thin build. Police are trying to determine if this is the very same man behind a series of attempted abductions in berkeley last fall involving a green van. Its an app said to be used by isis that sends encrypted messages that selfdestruct. As joe vazquez reports that same app is causing controversy within San Franciscos government. Telegram is a secret chat feature that allows messages to selfdestruct. According to an article on the tech site, information. Com, some supervisors and their staffers are using telegram to conduct city business. The article quotes an unnamed City Employee who says, staffers here at city hall are being encouraged to use telegram because its a way around the citys Public Records law. And so to see this new exhibit open up today see how far the tech museum has come, its a proud design. This is one of the crown jewels. Now, the new exhibit is hands on. Its visual. Its allowing visitors to explore, discover and play with biology. This is the socalled creature creation station with its 30 foot video screen. Visitors handle pieces to design microscopic critters and release them into the Virtual World where they interact with the other creations. The living colors lab is where you put on lab gear, rubber gloves and handle dna to engineer multicolored bacteria, then projected on a display. Then at least a lab where then at least the bio Biotinkering Lab where visitors will grow bricks out of mushrooms, yes, mushrooms. The root struck of the mushroom acts like glue and after its grown, dried out and baked it can be used as furniture. The studio is all about making experiences openended. Biological tools dont determine how people think philosophically about things. We are not having a discussion about with biotechnology should be accessed. Its here. The cow is out of the barn. Even alternate 280 is in the yellow so we are seeing slow andgo speeds there. North 101 near old oakland road still stuck in the right lane is an overturned vehicle with injuries. Look at those delays you are backed up beyond capitol expressway. Hellyer probably at this point. Slowandgo over 30 minutes to get through there. 280 was your best bet. Not so much anymore. Northbound 280 at 11th street. 10th street. We have reports of an accident blocking at least two lanes. Thats backing things up to 101 at this point. So just pack your patience out of the south bay. We have a brokendown vehicle making some good delays westbound 237 right at Great America parkway. Its blocking at least one lane. Lets jump over to highway 4.
