This new set of policies needs to be taken to the police union for negotiation but it does represent a general agreement between legally it has to go in front of the union. But this does represent a general agreement between Police Officers and the Police Commission. Deescalation is the main theme in this set of policies basically defusing a tense situation before officers feel the need to fire deadly shots. Specifically prohibited in this agreement, chokeholds and firing at moving vehicles unless the suspect poses a threat by means other than their vehicle. Thats have be debated for months. Everyone weighed in. Officers, aclu and politicians included. This is actually putting in place clear standards and clear metrics about how we are going to hold the department accountable to the changes that they promise to be making for years and havent made. Kiet reporter the state knows they cannot rely on personal surveys alone because a lot of drivers lie about distracted driving and so its not easy but they send workers out into the field to count the number of drivers who are typing or holding a phone to their ears and heres what they found. In 2011, Law Enforcement agencies around the state wrote nearly half a million tickets. But then last year that number dropped by nearly half. Whats going on . One of the hitandruns happened in Golden Gate Park at 6 30 p. M. The driver was trying to pass another car when he smashed into a young woman on a bicycle. Paramedics gave her cpr but she died at the scene. Not long after the crash, officers found the white honda from the collision abandoned at the parks equestrian way. The second deadly crash was two hours later south of market. The suspect allegedly ran a red light before plowing into another bicyclist and officers arrested the driver. Deescalation is the main theme defusing a tense situation before officers feel the need to fire deadly shots. Specifically, prohibited, chokeholds and firing at moving vehicles unless suspects pose a threat other than using their vehicles. These proposed rules have been debated for months as everyone from the officers to the aclu to politicians weighed in. This is putting in place clear standards and clear metrics about how we are going to hold the department accountable to the changes that they promised to be making for years and havent made.
