It had been shut down for a while. 880 237 in the south bay is free and clear of any major problems but if you a north bay driver its not affecting major freeway traffic. But pedrick road has been shut down since overnight because of the tomato spill accident. These are pictures of the accident scene. The cleanup has to happen before they can reopen pedrick road. I80 close by it still open again, this is in dixon outside davis. 5 01. We have been hearing about a possible bay bridge fix for months now but now it just might happen. And a labor day opening is back on the table. Kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran shows us how the feds got involved. Good morning. Reporter good morning, frank. Now, in this letter that kpix 5 obtained, the federal Highway Administration gave caltrans the green light to put that temporary fix that may involve opening the bay bridge by Labor Day Weekend as originally planned. The feds cleared caltrans to strategically place 3 steel shims in the swiveling bearings to keep them from moving up and down in an earthquake. The feds say this will adequately replace the function of the failed anchor rods and they say we see no reason to delay opening the bridge to traffic i think everyones focus right now including people who i have been critical of in the whole process i think is properly focused on safety and getting people off the old bridge and on the new bridge as soon as possible. Reporter heres a projected timeline. Up to a week and a half to install the shims, and another two to four weeks to notify the public, airports and businesses about the change that may be enough time to get the bridge open just after labor day. But this is not a done deal yet. Today a threeperson committee including the head of caltrans will have a Conference Call to decide if they will open the bridge by Labor Day Weekend. Reporter from what we understand, theres little work to do except install these retrofits but we heard last week Highway Patrol started signing up officers for those Labor Day Weekend shifts. Today San Francisco police plan to announce a major drug bust. Two people were arrested in the ingleside district this past weekend. Officers responding found multiple kilos of ecstasy. Today at the press Conference Police plan to display the narcotics along with the cash they seized. San Francisco Police have changed their approach to dealing with alleged drug dealers now and thats led to a decline in drugrelated arrests. Police have often been steering drug users toward treatment. Arrests for drugrelated felonies and misdemeanors have dropped 75 in just the past five years. 2008 San Francisco police made nearly 10,000 arrests. But in 2012, they made fewer than 2,000. New york mayor Michael Bloomberg says he will appeal a federal judges ruling on the citys stop frisk police policy. The ruling States Police have violated peoples civil rights by wrongly targeting black and hispanic men. The ruling will not end the policy but the judge appointed an outside monitor to oversee major changes to it. Bloomberg says this will harm his citys crimefighting efforts. Former boston mob boss James Whitey Bulger will finally pay for the murders he orchestrated in the 70s and 80s. A jury found him guilty of involvement in 11 murders as well as racketeering and conspiracy. The verdict comes after a two month trial and five days of deliberations. Defense lawyers detailed government and fbi corruption at the time. The tactic helped get bulger off on eight other murder charges. They have had enough. Near hayward we are expecting a group here to wage a protest at 6 00 and to officially announce that this is the first day of their strike here in hayward. Now, they say that they have already given back 12 in wages in the past three years. They dont want to give up another 5 . The search for a teen missing in colorados recent flooding is called off after a body was found overnight. The Coroners Office has yet to say if its missing 17yearold rose ham.
